Recently bought a clumping bamboo and was a little unsure as to whether I should put it in the ground ( and risk it coming up in my neighbors garden) i have decided to put in a container. Thanks for the advice.

Only running bamboo will spread to an extent that you should be worried

I've heard eventually I have to take them out from container and plant it in ground? They also told me they are invasive even the clumping one and that they alot of work to mantain??
I need something to block my 2 story neighboor house and also something for my side yard fence which is 173ft long. I live in clovis california in the city on a corner lot..my yard sits high so people from outside can see inside my yard

Don't worry--the clumpin/non-invasive is fine! they grow in circle and don't "run" faraway at all! But, in your situation, you might need a running type as they grow very tall...You will need to put a barrier around the plants. Concrete ,etc, find a videos how to make it safe. Unfortunately, the clumping /non-invasive bamboos grow only 3.5 meters high.It is enough for my place, your's are different.Keep trying to find info from here or Instagramm videos. It is a LOT of work to creat a good barrier for the running type of bamboo. But they are gourgeos. I wish I could have them.I want to try to plant a few in a very big, wooden made containers...Good luck!

I have a black bamboo in a container for about 7 years. I’ve been getting a lot of canes dying and leaves falling off..it doesn’t look healthy. Could it be root bound? Should you remove it from the container and separate/remove some of the culms?

It could be outgrowing the pot. Maybe transplant it to a larger container -- one that is more deep and has good drainage -- and see if that helps. I've read that bamboos usually require deep pots. Also, maybe try giving it some nitrogen-based fertilizer. Bamboos love nitrogen and seem to require fertilizer more regularly than most plants.

I think it's root bound, you've got to get it a larger container.

On another video I just saw, they recommended repotting every 5 years.

Did you replanted it ? How the plant now? I want to plant a few, the running ones into containers. As for the non-invasive I will plant them into the ground soon.

What are the dimensions of your barrels?

He looks to be about 5 foot 8 to 5 foot 10. Measure your own body. What is the distance between the bottom of your foot to your knee? Then compare it to the size of the barrel? That’s where the phrase, “rule of thumb”, originally came from, when people used their own bodies as measurements. Those barrels are probably about 24 to 30 inches tall and about 48 inches across.
