this is one of my absolute favourite SNES games - I used to rent it all the time and the soundtrack is so fire
This game was great. Had a lot of fun playing it after the letdown that was DDIII
No kidding, the game was awful
Instaliked. This game is a highlight of my childhood, hands down.
@@FloridaEbikes Patman vids are scattered throughout my que, so that "happy lil games" jingle•slogan•catchphrase always pleasantly surprises me & hypes me up for whatever game is about to be showcased 😺
Whether it is a beloved classic, disappointing turd, or another type of video, Patman sure does make an entertaining show❣️
This game is critically underrated. It was supposed to have a plot but it was Christmas rushed.
Maybe underated because of the arcade version's stigma. It's true though, great game!
The greatest double dragon ever created, next to the first one. The music in this game still gives me chills today and brings back memories of a time where games were simple and fun. Thank you so much for sharing.
Couldn't agree more! Glad you enjoyed it :-) thanks
The first Arcade entry is terrible.
Yeah the choreography was extremely good. Definitely some Bruce Lee inspiration.
Loved double dragon growing up. Just noticed a snork on the homepage of the sister channel. Nobody else remembers the snorks. Glad to see I am not a crazy person who made them up lol.
Snorks-
Come along with the Snorks
Swim along with the Snorks
So much to see waiting for you and me
Come along with the Snorks ;)
6:14 When that music hits, oh my God, so many delightful memories as a kid playing on the NES and the super NES comes rushing back. I played all the Double Dragons, but I got to say part 3 was the hardest
Also the first music in the original arcade double dragon
Same here!
I am SO GLAD to see you and your content growing. Definitely deserved. Was around when you had close to 10k followers... Great to see the progress.
Thanks a lot, hopefully all is well with you. Cheers
Great review Pat. It's cool to see the enemies actually blocking with their arms. I always wanted a fighting game that focused on the different kinds of blocks you see in a martial arts film. This looks like a nice fighting brawler, but sad it was mostly overlooked to Street Fighter II.
Thanks. I always thought the combat engine was really cool with being able to block somebody's punches and kicks and grabbing them for throw LOL
My favorite beat’em up period. Thank you for making this video! I had so much fun playing this when I was ten years old.
One of my favorites as well. Thanks a lot for watching
Love this game. I would love this available on the switch.
November 9th!
@@Theprimaryfocus oh yeah??
@@joegalford2319 see for yourself! Don't take my word for it!
@@TheprimaryfocusIt was also on PS4 that same day. I just recently bought it, for my PS5.
I haven't had the pleasure in playing this port. I'll definitely be tracking it down. Awesome job with the vid Pat! 👊
I love the sound effects in this game. That noise the nunchaku makes when you bash someone over the head is so satisfying!
There was just so much you can do in the game. Moves and environment interaction was ahead of its time
I agree 100%
Super Double Dragon is my favorite game ever. Hands down no questions asked. And it's a great game even without cutscenes or an ending just the text
It's definitely a lot of fun
Great video. Can't wait to get done with work to watch it. Thanks for the upload.
Thanks a lot, hope you enjoy it
Loved the footage of the bad guy getting taken out by his own boomerang.
I thought that was pretty funny so I had to include it :-)
I didn't get to play this game or even knew this game existed until 1995 because my parents had already bought me a Sega Genesis in 1992. I happened to go by a local Pawn Shop with my mom and I saw a fully working Super Nintendo system with one controller and no games shrink wrapped. They had some cartridges of mostly sports games I didn't care for in their collection but then I saw Super Double Dragon and Street Fighter 2 Turbo just chillin there. So I immediately used my allowance money, rented a couple other games like Prince Of Persia and Mortal Kombat, then the rest his history. But indeed Super Double Dragon had they largest move set of any beat up up's at that time and really up to this day until Streets Of Rage 4 came out. 😇
Never played super double dragon.
The original arcade game was my jam though. It was the first arcade machine I ever played on, back as a 7 year old in 1988. That game would get all my allowance.
There wasn't many games I could complete on one credit back then, but I mastered double dragon straight away.
Man, that's wet my appetite for a game of DD now.😂
Excellent, I could never do it in one credit
Spectacularly intriguing RUclips video: I am not talking about Leonard Nimoy singing Proud Mary. I am talking about PatmanQC covering the History of Super Double Dragon.
LOL, that's great. Thanks
I remember buying this game for 59.99 at the Wiz in NYC when it first came out, I bought it on a Friday, played it on a Saturday I was blown away by everything in this game. The music of the truck level has been stuck to my head, great music, also the fighting mechanics was something I was not used to because of their variety, great video!
I always thought it was a great game and 10 times better than the previous attempt. Thank you very much
Had awesome times playing and beating this game with my brother.
I always had a lot of fun playing it as well
The Patman meter fills up and allows you to bowl a strike
LOL, comment of the day
I've play all the Double Dragons series at the acardes I appreciate you always for the real deal fan as yourself.
Super Double Dragons was beast. And the booklets was a true flashback.
Automatic like from me. Great job PatmanQC on another awesome video.
I sure do appreciate that :-) thank you so much

I love the dying burp sound, Bwaa!😆

Was one of my favourite games in the UK arcades when I was a teenager
The original that is
It was my favourite arcade game too. Along with golden axe, tmnt, wrestle fest, and NBA jam.
All of the above :-)
I still love Double Dragon
So do I
My friends and I used to play this game all of the time and since this game didn't give each goon a generic name like they did in Final Fight we made up nick names for all of the guys. Most of them named after candy as well now that I think about it, lol. Good times. Miss you Willy and everyone else. Hope your all doing good out there!
Had quite some fun playing this with a friend nice to see again. Never played number III didn't know of its existence either.
This one is a a lot of fun to play
Wow... memories of a sleep over in elementary came back watching this... I miss those days!

Oh my God LMAO "The wonderful toys we get to play with include, knives, The Grammarly Commercial, nun-chucks & boomerangs."

@@jamiegwhite30 Thanks a lot!
I like the first one. It is one first fighting games I played and I love it.
I love how the reward for conquering the game is not only a quick text, but a quick text with an unnecessary apostrophe on "double dragon's". 😆
As always very entertaining thanks 👍
Thank you very much
Good times Patman - keep them coming!
Thanks a lot
This game was so good! Another great video!
Thank you so much
Probably my favorite beat'em up ever
It's one of my favorites as well
Loved this game on my SNES. I was for some reason loved throwing the boomerang.
Still got my copy! I love this game
So do I
I remember renting this game back in the day and really enjoyed it. Great video overall!!👍👍👍
Thanks a ton!
Awesome video this was always one of my favorite beat em ups. I highly recommend checking out Ultimate Double Dragon it is a fan made openbor game using Super Double Dragon's engine with one of the original game artists helping make new characters look like they always belonged like Abobo and Linda. The moveset is insane at least 20 different moves per character and also new playable characters. Its so good it kind of ruined Super Double Dragon for me it feels so simple and slow now haha
I'll check it out! Thank you
I remember playing this with the neighborhood kids. It was fun. Played it several times over. Here's hoping they do a next gen sequel to it. Between Final Fight, this is one of my favorite franchises
This game was so much fun. At least once a year, I'll pull out the SNES and play this. The music, the bright graphics, large characters and deep combat move set all make this game amazing to play.
I liked this game overall when I first played it. There's a couple guys out there who've been doing an overhaul/remake of the game call Ultimate Double Dragon. They're are a good collection of videos here on RUclips you can watch game play on!
🐉☯️🐉
Thanks for helping put the word out John! ;)
Ultimate Double Dragon is hands down the best beat em up in existence right now
Great work Pacman qc
Thank you
Great work Sir
Thank you very much
This game (Double Dragon) was almost "after my time". One of those "new ones" that was too complicated and made miss my regulars like Pitfall, Track & Field, etc. I don't think I put even a full dollar or two worth of quarters in it. But, it. was impressive to watch people on it. Like watching a cartoon where the heroes could actually loose and get killed.
1:21 TECHNOS of JAPAN Corp Home Everything I Love The Japanese Manga And Anime Looks it's So Totally Awesome!!
Thanks Pat.
Absolutely, thanks for watching
My favorite double dragon
I loved this game on the SNES. I played it with my friends all the time.
It's really good
Dammmn. This is one I totally forgot about. Thanks for the video. 👍
Absolutely, thanks for watching
I like this game a lot. It kind of gets lost in the shuffle.
The story is also on the back of the box too
Hours upon hours playing this game over and over solo or with a friend. One of my favorite beat em up games that I still have the cartridge of.
I've always heard Return of the Double Dragons was a better version but have never played it.
I have not tried it either but I heard it was pretty good
Loved this game :)

Loved double dragon ( except 3 ) great video as always.
Cool, thanks
My day just got brighter. 16 bit brighter

I've got to say, as always, the music is so so fucking amazing God, I swear we don't make music like this anymore 💯💯💯
It's fantastic

Good times playing super DD
I love this game, played it a lot back in the days and keep playing it from time to time. But I understand if the average gamer didn’t get into it (gamers not much into beat’en ups), because it gets too repetitive on the last stages. Probably some of the reasons that went against this game was that most people were talking about TMNT turtles in time that had more dynamic action, or other beat’em ups like Final Fight 2 and even Rival Turf, which all had bigger sprites that could make a bigger impact on the player.
But the counter attack by grabbing the enemy and the moving “helicopter kick” were so fun to execute!!
There’s an AMAZING fan game using assets from this game called “ultimate double dragon”. DD fans should definitely check it out!!
"We didn't play this game for the story we played for the crazy martial arts action."
Why not both?
First game my brother and I played on our SNES, Christmas of 1992. I was so mad when I finally beat the game and that's all the ending was lol
Very unique version this one.
Yes it was only on the super Nintendo
I remember getting the bad guys stuck with the speed bag, you get like 50 hit combos before he died...
LOL that's Hilarious
I can barely remember any mention of this game back then. I might have heard about it, but maybe I was negligent in checking it out that time. Back then Super Nintendo was known for adding the word 'Super' for popular games in their library like, Punch Out, Contra, and maybe Metroid too, if I'm not mistaken, so maybe I just blew off Super D.D as just another SNES title.
On a real positive note though, the music in this game sounds really cool, so that alone will keep you playing. (It doesn't come close to the rockin' music of Streets Of Rage 4 for the PS4 though 😋).
I noticed how any opponent standing behind you, waits patiently, for his turn to get pummeled, as you have the opponent in front of you in a hold.
I also noted in the credits that they seem to have made a grammatical mistake by the end of it; 'The Heroics Of The Double Dragon's ... what? Art of fighting skills?
Shouldn't that be read as just, 'The Heroics Of The Double Dragons?'
Yeah, they really did rush the development of this game.
Professor, PLEASE do a history of terrible side scroller beatem ups. That's Guardians of The Hood looks so bad I would've probably played the heck out of it.
I've had a few requests for that so I will put it on the list, thanks
We need the updated version available on newer consoles. I have the original on the SNES but it needs re-released
If you have a PC I highly recommend Ultimate Double Dragon on Openbor it is a fanmade game so good it's better than the source material even one of the original artist's from Super Double Dragon started helping make new sprites for characters not in the game like Abobo. It's basically a modern version and hands down the best beat em up I've ever played
I have to remember to do more engagement to see your channel
Thank you
Billy and Jimmy Lee fight with a fictional martial arts style called, "Sou-Setsu-Ken," which means "Twin Sever Fist." Many of the Double Dragon plots revolve around the "Black Shadow Ops" trying to steal the technique for themselves by taking the Sacred Scrolls. The bad guys even went so far to kidnap Billy's girlfriend, Marian, to try and ransom her for the scrolls. Some of the attacks by the Double Dragons are based on Bruce Lee's fighting style. I also noticed the character designs look very similar to Fist of the North Star.
Sousetsu Ken ==> Twin Sever Fist, as well as Paralel Intercepting Fist
Omg I love this game. 😀😀👍👍
So do I :-)
10:10 RETURN OF DOUBLE DRAGON "SLEEPING DRAGON" HAS AWOKE. Only On Nintendo Super Famicom.
They were going to add cutscenes and they have 2 unused songs in super double dragon
Yes I mentioned the cut scenes and that the game wasn't finished
8:33 💥
And I thought Karnov on the NES had the worst ending I have ever seen. This comes in 2nd.
The japanese edition has more content but it skips straight to the credits.
There been some bad computer game endings as well
Nostalgia has hit
Double dragon 1 and 2 for the NES and super double dragon for the super Nintendo and super dodgeball and River City Ransom for the NES..... Me and my brother played more times than I can count.... And the Double Dragon 1and 2 Arcade which was at our Bowling Alley in our town what a coincidence....😂🤣... As my older brother and I would make a trek across town just to play as well as the local mall to play the arcade version of super dodgeball.....😂🤣
OMG! Seeing this in action makes me wonder how we survived playing games running at less than 30 fps and thought it was cool and fluid! Great game, horrible animation frames.
One of my favorites on the SNES. So many pleasant memories as a kid playing it.
I played the Japanese version of this in recent years and yea, it is a more polished version. Strange that it was released in the US first and then Japan instead of the other way around, but no complaints. To bad it still didn't get the the full content they wanted to include. Oh well, still a good game regardless.
I always thought that this was the fourth DD game but then a new DDVI game was made on the PS4, Switch, etc. Reason why was because of the crappy DD V, a game that was mainly based off of the animated series in the 90s and was a crappy fighting game.
So I'm guessing that SDD was a reboot instead of a sequel? Who knows...
I saw double dragon 3 only once in an arcade. I thought it was fake. (Bootleg with a DD3 marquee) It looked and played too different from 1 and 2 and I loved those... I didn't realize it was real till it came out for genesis
Still wish we had the story and ending added in.
Blame the holidays for that. They rushed the game and all.
You and me both
@@Invidente7 Yeah. I’ve been losing interest in holidays lately.
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries It could have been the most epic Double Dragon game ever.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Retroism re-release of the game.
We need a Snyder Cut of Super Double Dragon.
LOL, comment of the day!
That's what Ultimate Double Dragon aims to be, and even more so... surprised it didn't get a mention in this video.
His dad jokes are ridiculous. But I still smirk at some of them.
Thank you for the smirks
It's been a few years since I came to know this entry in the series. I believe the stink from Double Dragon 3 might have had something to do with people not paying attention to this one. I myself spent quite a bit of time back then with the Genesis port thinking I was playing wrong or something before finally deciding the game stunk.
A lot of people were disappointed in the third one
Super Double Dragon was the entry in the series that made up after an abysmal failure of DD3.
I agree 100%
More intricate stages? I'm getting flashbacks to Double Dragon IV on PS4. Some of those levels seemed like they belonged in a MegaMan game not a beat-em-up.
That's what he said but I couldn't find any specifics
Double dragon 2 is one of my favorite games ever! I could never figure out why double dragon 3 was so much worse than 2..I just assumed it was better because it was newer but it taught me that latest doesn't automatically translate to greatest!
