Thank you for this video. Growing up in Holland and moving to Chicago, I flew many times to Amsterdam with my parents to visit family. The first time I went by myself, when I was 22, I flew from Chicago to Amsterdam with Aer Lingus. Airplanes are my passion, so the flights were one of the big highlights for me. Thanks for the extended video, especially in the airport, it brought back a lot of great memories.
+Thai John You are welcome mate. While the US preclearance is still time consuming, passengers who are running late for their flight can get priority in line and if you already have a US custom form (the one you fill in in the aircraft before arrival in the US) you can fill it in before preclearance and save another couple of minutes. Definately a big plus.
I flew last month from DUB to Washington and didn't have to fill in a custom form at the US pre clearance. When I flew to Chicago in 2015 I did had to fill in a form, these forms could be found just before going through the pre clearance.
As an anxious flyer who's never left Europe, I found this so reassuring as I like to know what to expect. Thanks so much for posting, I already feel a little calmer about my upcoming Aer Lingus flight! (Dublin-NY)
+theyoungparisians Thank you for the comment. Good to hear you became more reassured by watching the video. All I can say is just sit back, relax and enjoy the flight 😊
Man I don't know how many times I've taken that flight. It used to be that we'd have to fly to JFK or Boston then get a connection as Aer Lingus didn't have a direct flight back then so It was great when they decided to begin services to Chicago. And the fact that it's treated as a domestic flight is great when you get to Chicago as you don't have to deal with huge long lines at customs..
You used a Go Pro with a suction cup! WOW ..... I wouldn't have thought of that! Excellent idea :-) We will be on an Aer Lingus flight next month... thx for the video.
At 1:26 there's an escalator up to Gates 407 - 426 - the non-US gates. I thought this was a secure area separated from the rest of the airport. It looked like a couple of passengers were going up that escalator but I'd have thought anyone going to Gates 407 - 426 would not be on the lower floor in the first place.
thanks for the vid, I'm planning a trip traveling out of Chicago to Liverpool and I'll be going through Aer Lingus. I was skeptical on getting economy because I figured if I'm going to be on a plane for 7+hrs I want to be comfortable. I still will probably get business class but I definitely am surprised at how solid economy looks! thank you again!
It always surprises me that just above the clouds on the dullest, darkest, greyest days in Ireland.... it is sunny and there are blue skies. I know that obviously the sun is always above the clouds but my surprise is more to do with how close we are to nice weather but yet so far away.
+Seán McClean Cheers mate! Unfortunately I have never flown Aer Lingus Business Class. It looks great, but in comparison to other airlines it's quite expensive. I hope I will find an error fare or good deal in the future, would like to try their Business Class...
Nice video , i was always curious about Aer Lingus , i heard they will be re joining the Oneworld Alliance in 2017 , then i will try at least one of their routes.
Surprised you didn't opt for the premium economy meal again. Do you think they're worth the extra price? Last time I flew EI to the US the free meal was terrible
+ShamrockGoldCircle Thank you for commenting mate 👍 Is the premium meal worth the extra money? Well, depends really. I did enjoy the premium meal but the meal I ordered also included wine and salmon, which I don't eat/drink. But I knew that before I ordered it. So I payed for something I didn't consumed. But the chicken was good, and I bet the potatoes which should have come with it were also good. So if you are going to consume everything it's worth the extra money in my opinion. You do need to verify to the cabin crew with a voucher, which you receive after ordering, that you ordered the meal. On the other hand, the complimentary meal served on this flight tasted quite good. The reason I didn't ordered the premium meal this time was that I was curious of the complimentary meal.
+dontlookatender it depends on the availability of the gate. for example if and american airlines was due to arrive at gate 401 at 7am and was delayed until 9 then the next aircraft that was ment to use that gate will use the next available gate. lets say the inbound flight from chicago landed at 9.30 and the american was using its original gate then ei would get moved. and because ei dont move their aircraft out of there parking positions until they head back to the us that afternoon then they stay in the gates they were moved to
+dontlookatender Dublin has a busy trade in repainting leased aircraft. (75% of international leasing companies have offices in Ireland) Often these aircraft are parked at the airport for up to 3 months between leases.

I made this flight on the St Patrick EI-ELA on the 27th of March, 2014, the first of seven flights I made in the next two weeks, more than I have made on any other trips to America, on to Toledo from Chicago on American Airlines, then on the 31st of March, back on American Airlines to Chicago for a connecting flight to Houston, again on American Airlines then on April 10th to Oklahoma City on United Airlines and on the 13th from Oklahoma City to Chicago on United Airlines for my flight home on Aer Lingus St Munchin EI-EDY.
Excellent trip report my friend...only problem for me would be having to pay for alcohol...like another poster has said it has a Ryanair feel to it. It's not the end of the world...but when I fly with friends we like to have a few vodkas. How did you position your camera looking down on the meal tray?
+19bootsy68 Thnaks for the comment mate 👍 I don't drink alcohol when I fly so I don't have that problem :-) But apart from the luggage and alcohol you don't have to pay for extra's like the IFE, meals and food on long haul routes. On the short haul operations you do have to pay for food and/or meals. The service on the ground and in the air is also better then Ryanair in my opinion. I placed the camera with a suction cup on the side of the cabin, right next to the window. While this surface is not completely smooth, when using alot of water on the suction cup it will hold the cam long enough to take some shots.
+19bootsy68 Yes it happens sometimes. Depending on the situation most of the time the crew asks me out of interest when they see my cam why I film and when I tell them what it is for they almost always react positive. Around 50% of the times a fellow passenger asks me why I am filming and I tell them what it's for.
Great Report! Very thorough and in-depth. The GoPro cam moments has some annoying sound, but I can totally understand that its from the casing. Other than that great footage. Liked and Sub'd! Greetings from Tampa!
+NihselAviation Thanks for the comment and sub mate! In it's case the sound is the worst, now I use the frame, which seems to be less annoying. I have tried an external mic but the sound of that particular mic was worse.
I've flown that route many times with AL over the last 30 years. We used to have to fly to New York and get a connecting flight to Chicago as Aer Lingus didn't have a direct flight to Chicago back then. I would hazard to guess I've made that trip about 30 times over the years and in all but a few cases I've flown with Aer Lingus. I last few with them about 4 years ago and the Airbus we used was just a bag of rattles and the seat I was in didn't recline but it was still a pleasant flight overall. I hope for the passengers sake they've replace that aircraft with a new one at this point.
Another excellent flight report! Always excited to see the new content from your channel under my subscriptions list. Any chance your future content is going to be offered in ultra 4k?
+dragonskiss86 Thanks for the comment mate :-) At this moment I don't record everything in 4K, but I think in the future it could be possible that I'll be recording in 4K. But 4K presents it's challenges for me, editting 4K videos is slower, exporting and uploading takes alot longer also. So yes there is a chance but I don't think it will be in the near future.
+Window Seat Gotcha. I was just curious. In due time.....I know rendering 4k content is a lot more time consuming, as is uploading the exponentially larger files associated with such content. But until then, keep up the good work! By the way, what airfield is that at 17:05? I thought it was Midway at first.
+dragonskiss86 I will do my best mate 👍 Am working on the next one, should be ready in 1 to 2 weeks. That airport is Chicago Executive airport. In the takeoff video from Chicago to Dublin you can see the same aiport again as we pass it from the other side. If you watch closely you can see "12" on one of the 3 runways ruclips.net/video/DTaLqkDzVB4/видео.html
Great video excellent quality. Have you ever thought of getting sponsored to travel? Some companies send people out to write reviews, take photos or all around exploration. I think you would be great at it
+Mel Sharkey Thank you for your comment Mel 👍 I know that there are people out there who do sponsored travelling, I don't know how to get sponsored by a company to be honest. Thanks for the compliment 👍
I got excited watching your video because I'm leaving for Ireland 2 week from today. Flying from Boston to Dublin on Aer Lingus. It's an overnight flight, so I'm hoping I will be able to sleep. Any suggestions?
+Spoiled Rotten Great Dane Great you got excited 😊 I don't usually sleep on flights. I don't know where you are sitting and how tall you are, but if you are sitting in close proximity to the galley or toilets the activities around these areas could disturb your sleep. A set of earplugs could help. Sitting in the aisle could have the same effect with people passing by, therefore I think a seat by the window is the best seat for a decent rest, unless you can get more free seats and lay down. Enjoy the flight!
+TheChosenRed Thanks mate 👍 On approach my camera mounted on the window ran out a battery so instead of replacing the battery I grabbed my other camera and filmed it by hand...
A Great Job my friend!!! :-) the trip report is perfekt!!! :-) the airplane looks Good and the Terminal is nice!!! The A330 is a good aircraft!!! What are your next flights?? :-D
+Paul Hofer Thank you my friend 👍 My next trip is next week Ams-Auh-Cgk on KLM/EY. Should have been on the new KLM Dreamliner, unfortunately the delivery to KLM is postponed so it will be a KLM A330 for me...
+oliver jumelle You are right, it would have saved time. It would have to be with another airline also because Aer Lingus doesn't fly directly to Chicago from Amsterdam.
oh so you just wanted the trip with aer lingus and were not in a great rush to get there? i get it now. to be honest between the A330 and A340 i prefer the 330. how long was the layover in dublin?
+oliver jumelle That is correct. The layover was very short, after landing I went to the transit desk to check in for the flight to Chicago. From there I made my way to the pre-clearance area, but with a 5 minute detour through the shopping area, where I started to film. Upon arrival at the gate boarding already started, so I would say in all about 1 hour 15 minutes approximately.
Can you bring a travel pillow and blanket? Does it count against your personal/carry on allowance? Flying overnight and I can’t seem to find any info on this. I’d rather not use the provided ones
I did that using a suction cup with lots of water and stick it to the side of the aircraft. It's far from perfect because of the rough surface, but if it's not bumpy and you use enough water it will stick long enough to shoot a video. It will fall off eventually. It's one of the few times I did that.
Cheers mate! I don't think they said something about it on this flight. Most of the time cabin crew react positive on the cam and mount, it can happen that they don't approve it but in my experience it is around 2% of the times.
i am flying Aer Lingus in July from TOronto to Frankfurt via Dublin,. We have an hour and a half to transfer planes. hoping this will be ok. this will be a round trip with same amount of transfer time. i don't believe that there is customs clearance for Canadians in Dublin. i believe that is still done here in cCanada
On the TVs thing their touch screen whatever you call it in the music section I wonder if they'd have Taylor Swift on it cuz I'm flying it it in 3 weeks cuz I'm moving to New York and ooh strawberry moose
A complimentary meal is provided, you can also pre-book a 3 course meal www.aerlingus.com/experience-aer-lingus/dining/transatlantic-economy/#/tab-0-bia-pre-order
Hi, Window Seat. How does the Aer Lingus 757 compare to the Aer Lingus A330 in your opinion? My flight in February from Dublin to Newark is showing the 757 and I am worried it wont be as good an experience.
Hi skerr10, Thanks for watching my video. To be honest I prefer the 757 over the A330. I've flown 2 roundtrips DUB-US on the 757 and once on the A330. I think they use the 757 on routes that are less popular, and therefore these flights have a lower pax load (except on holidays). On all the flights with the 757 the pax load was around 60% maybe and had 1 seat free next to me, which means a little more space for me. On my flight with the A330 pax load was more like +80% Main differences between the 757 and the A330: the A330 has 2 aisles and inflight WIFI, the 757 has 1 aisle, no WIFI and a USB port for every passenger. Enjoy the trip!
Hi Hope, thanks for your comment, glad you liked the video! The meal and soft drinks are complimentary. There is a charge on alcoholic beverages, and if desired you can also pre order a (paid) 3 course meal through the Aer Lingus website.
this is the first time i have watched a video of yours. well done a i love it 👍👍 i cant wait to watch the rest. can I ask how you get to travel so much? work or leisure? it is my goal and dream to do this. happy travelling!
Hi FFF, thanks for your comment 👍 I do this for leisure and fund it by working. I don't stay long on my destinations, 5 days at the most and I look for bargain tickets on the Internet on a daily basis. For the trips I do and some hotels I stay I also save some FF miles which allows me an upgrade or promo award ticket once in a while.
Hi, great video first of all:) I have a question. I´ve only flown with a a380 on a long haul flight. and it was very smooth and I didn´t feel the tubulence that much. Because the a330 is a little smaller, was it more bumpy and is it comfortable?
Does the A330 for aer lingus have outlets for 2-prong devices? Gonna be flying to Germany in a month and this will help me know if I need to find an external battery source or not
Cheers mate 👍 I most definately would recommend Aer Lingus for a transatlantic flight. Good service and IFE on board, decent to good seat picth and last but not least: Pre clearing US customs in Dublin... Huge advantage.
Yes I would too. I was in / out of J.F.K. airport a lot from 2007-2011 and have a brill experience flying Air Linus. Would I be right in saying Aer Lingus have a terminal now in JFK or a hub?
About my height. I flew from Miami to London on a virgin Atlantic 747 years ago. I smugly got an aisle seat with all the legroom l needed. Little did l realize that a few hours into the flight, half the plane needed the toilets which were right next to me. I was trod on several times, one lady was sick and towards the end of the flight the stink from the bank of 6 toilets was awful. I live in Northern Ireland but it makes more sense to fly from Dublin as there are fewer taxes and more direct flights.
How tall are you? Looking to make a similar trip in the next couple of months and trying to see if I can stand Economy or should upgrade to the next class up.
FYI regarding Aer Lingus' 'rucksack' prohibition: Aer LIngus defines 'rucksack' as a huge oversize backpack such as height from head to lower back, like a large wire-framed backpack with back bars for treks in US parlance. Typical student-style backpacks are permissible and must not exceed size requirements: up to 22 pounds; H 21.5 inches; W 15.5 inches; and Depth 9.5 inches when 'smushed' into tester. BTW, Aer Lingus toll-free number is: 800.474.7424 I selected option 2.
It is sooooo rare to find a video where you can see what actually happens in the aircraft and not just 7 hours of a wing. Thank you for that
You are welcome mate, thanks for your comment 👍

Thanks for your comment mate 👍
Markus Schult they're great for 1-4 hour flights on the a320 as well

+NihselAviation Thanks for the comment and sub mate! In it's case the sound is the worst, now I use the frame, which seems to be less annoying. I have tried an external mic but the sound of that particular mic was worse.
The food looks great hehe
The two seat idea is refreshing, how many people have the unwanted and unfriendly third person on long flights?
thats how most a330s are layed out as its to narrow to do the usual 9 across
One of the older A330's. The current ones have much bigger and better in-flight entertainment screens.
+wiltner Thanks for the info mate 👍
+dragonskiss86 Thanks for the comment mate :-)
At this moment I don't record everything in 4K, but I think in the future it could be possible that I'll be recording in 4K.
If you watch closely you can see "12" on one of the 3 runways ruclips.net/video/DTaLqkDzVB4/видео.html
i walked through those exact same walkways and terminal and even took that escalator in the start in dublin 4 months earlier
Thanks for the compliment 👍
great video :)
Fantastic video..!!
Cheers mate 👍
Just so you're aware, that's an A330 not a 757.
Superb report as always! One question though, how come you did not film the landing with your GoPro attached to the window?
+TheChosenRed Thanks mate 👍 On approach my camera mounted on the window ran out a battery so instead of replacing the battery I grabbed my other camera and filmed it by hand...
Defenitly worth a sub youre channel!!
+Ismaïl Mekkaoui Thanks for the comment and sub mate 👍
Thanks alot! I have a fear of flying and I'm soon going from Dublin to Boston and this really cleared my worries
Thanks for watching mate 👍 Good to hear my video cleared your worries, safe flight!
Still a great video with a great airline in a great plane!I like it!
+Aarij Navid Cheers mate :-)
it’s funny that yesterday i took a flight from dublin to sf in gate 406
A Great Job my friend!!! :-) the trip report is perfekt!!! :-) the airplane looks Good and the Terminal is nice!!! The A330 is a good aircraft!!! What are your next flights?? :-D
+Paul Hofer Thank you my friend 👍 My next trip is next week Ams-Auh-Cgk on KLM/EY. Should have been on the new KLM Dreamliner, unfortunately the delivery to KLM is postponed so it will be a KLM A330 for me...
very cool ...
+Porto477 👍
+Window Seat thank You welcome My friend.😍
Going on Aer Lingus ATR from Newcastle to Dublin and then Dublin to Orlando Tommorow on A330
Awesome man, enjoy the trip!
Daniel Metcalf how was it?
Daniel Metcalf How was it? Looking to go from Chicago to London (via Dublin) in October and I am NOT a good flyer. Did you feel safe? .
Cool mate! Subbed!
Awesome mate 👍 Thanks for watching.
at 14.43. for a second i thought you were watching eastenders. question. would it not have saved you time flying straight from ams to o'hare?
US Pre Clearance at Dublin means time saved queuing upon arrival at Chicago, so sometimes Dublin may work out the shorter option!
Can you bring a travel pillow and blanket? Does it count against your personal/carry on allowance? Flying overnight and I can’t seem to find any info on this. I’d rather not use the provided ones
Aer linguistic is awesome
How did you mount the camera with the tray table view?
I did that using a suction cup with lots of water and stick it to the side of the aircraft. It's far from perfect because of the rough surface, but if it's not bumpy and you use enough water it will stick long enough to shoot a video. It will fall off eventually. It's one of the few times I did that.
did they say anything about the suction mount in the window? I wanted to try but I wasn't sure..... BTW a wonderful video!
Cheers mate! I don't think they said something about it on this flight. Most of the time cabin crew react positive on the cam and mount, it can happen that they don't approve it but in my experience it is around 2% of the times.
Did you record the take off and landing with the amount kit? Or just the cruise?
The takeoff, cruise and approach. My batteries went dead on approach so I recorded the landing with another camera.
+Window Seat good to hear. thank you!
I'm going to America in a few weeks with aer lingus and I need to know, do headphones or earphones come with the TV or do you bring your own
The earphones are provided, you don't have to bring your own headphone.
Window Seat thanks 👍
You are welcome, enjoy the trip!!
i am flying Aer Lingus in July from TOronto to Frankfurt via Dublin,.
+Krusty why u dissing her???
How do the pilots know what is behind their aircraft while reversing?
they dont reverse the tugs that push aircraft back are responsible for that
Rear view mirror...lol.. Couldn't resist!
We're doing this journey in a couple of weeks. Do you get an on board meal included or do you have to pre book one?
A complimentary meal is provided, you can also pre-book a 3 course meal www.aerlingus.com/experience-aer-lingus/dining/transatlantic-economy/#/tab-0-bia-pre-order
Window Seat what choices do you get with the complimentary meal. I’m a meat eater my girlfriend isn’t.
On my flight with the A330 pax load was more like +80%
Main differences between the 757 and the A330: the A330 has 2 aisles and inflight WIFI, the 757 has 1 aisle, no WIFI and a USB port for every passenger.
Enjoy the trip!
Hello, Window Seat! Thanks for this video! Was your in flight meal complimentary?
Hi, great video first of all:)
I have a question. I´ve only flown with a a380 on a long haul flight. and it was very smooth and I didn´t feel the tubulence that much. Because the a330 is a little smaller, was it more bumpy and is it comfortable?
It doesn't differ a lot. The A320 is so different from an a380 but an a330 is quite similar
+wasim zemerly no their all pretty much different
Does the A330 for aer lingus have outlets for 2-prong devices? Gonna be flying to Germany in a month and this will help me know if I need to find an external battery source or not
+Ebessan No man, unfortunately not. At least, where I was sitting, I don't know if the other seats have but I don't think so.
Enjoy your flight!
Great Video. So do you recommend Aer Lingus for transatlantic flights?
Cheers mate 👍 I most definately would recommend Aer Lingus for a transatlantic flight. Good service and IFE on board, decent to good seat picth and last but not least: Pre clearing US customs in Dublin... Huge advantage.
Yes I would too. I was in / out of J.F.K. airport a lot from 2007-2011 and have a brill experience flying Air Linus. Would I be right in saying Aer Lingus have a terminal now in JFK or a hub?
Good video. A bit cramped for an 8 hour flight?
Thanks for watching! I didn't find it crampy at all, but I'm 1.69m tall..
