What is a realistic good stroke count for someone in his 60s who does not have the regular muscles that long time swimmers have? I'm 63, started 3 mths ago barely making it across the breath of the pool, but am now doing 23 strokes (21 with a snorkel) in a 25m pool. Is getting to 18 strokes a realistic target to go for?
A lot of is your height and reach. Also how much you are kicking. Short people will have more stroke counts and the more effort you put into your kicks, less stroke counts.
It definitely helps, but it is not much. I am 6’6 (197cm) and have swam with people who are significantly shorter than me, we all were able to hold 8-10 strokes per 25m comfortably 😊 Technique is 🔑

41 to 46 per 50 m avarage 44 strokes
Steady state for three lots of 20 mins or so, I'm generally 15 strokes. I dont class myself as particularly "good" though.
21 strokes per 25 meters
Great info coach 😮
I do 15 strokes per 25m!
16 strokes per 25yd using a two beat kick. Close to 40 going 100.
22 per 25 m
I average about 22-26 strokes per 25 yards
