I remember when I was 14, I was in a music store playing "My Sharona". The guy came over and, very politely said, "that's not the best way to play that", and showed me the "right" way. I then started playing "Back in Black", and he was like "umm...OK, let's work on this one". I probably should have been thrown out, but everybody has to start somewhere.
I love to hear any of them played decently , of course i dont work there and have to listen to all of the other junk all day

Looks like this is exactly what you should be doing when buying a new guitar. What better way to test out different sounds?
I get the thinking though - same reason retail employees hate christmas songs, when you've heard them dozens of times a day (especially played badly) then you'd be happy if someone just ran through a few scales and said yeah, I'll take it 🤣
This is fake. I'm guessing the Dub over is to cover the horrible sounds of her playing out of tune guitars.
@@oprose2000 I think the problem with music stores is everyone is trying to prove themselves on guitar. If people would just play normal (the better guitar players don't play this game usually unless prodded). So if you can reset your mind to learn I stead of show off every one will be happier.

Cuz I mean lol the solo is actually a bit tough you must have just started a few days ago I recommend checking out my Michelle Angelo batio.
I am so tired of the 'forbidden' riffs being treated so badly... they are essential learning, just don't try to "learn" them in store... save that for home and play it well when you go back to the store.
Wrong, thats how you scare learning players away from going to the store and trying out guitars they are interested in buying. Even if you are not good, go for it screw everyone else they have just as much right to try before they buy as anyone

Everyone should indeed visit a store and try things, but practicing a classic that's been overplayed millions of times by people who can't play it properly at a guitar store is not good for anyone.
If one is capable of not butchering a rendition then fine, go ahead.

I grew up with these riffs and loved them. Then I learned how they worked and changed them up in my songs. The idea behind the SOTW riff has been used so many times in so many ways (even by Blackmore himself), and it's still fun to make new riffs with it. Great vid.

Haha this was fun 😆. If everyone in the record shop played these classic riffs as well as you, no one would mind, but of course they don't. That's why they drive guitar shop assistants nuts. The riffs themselves are inspired works of genius and you never grow tired of them. For me the most iconic and greatest of all is SMOKE ON THE WATER - just 12 notes, yet they stir your soul. It is probably therefore (to answer your question) the most forbidden riff.
i always hated hearing that nirvana tune in guitar stores, but u did it serious justice. same for 'smoke' , the tone is just perfect. fun vid, thanks!

Great video Jassy! Absolutely loved the comedy aspect of it. Though I would only say a few of them may actually be forbidden, but that's me...I'm not the poor guitar store personnel that are forced to listen to the same old songs all of the time. I'll usually play not so common songs when I test guitars, like Big Love by Fleetwood Mac, It's Not Love by Dokken, or play some ZZ Top???

Man, you have so much musical power. I got none. I have such a deficit that if I get too close to the stage at a live show, they lose 10% of their ability. So I am very impressed with some one who can get great sound from a guitar like you can.

I never comment on vids but here I am. I'm a beginner and was recently taught two of the forbidden riffs so got a laugh! But I am totally inspired by your playing. It's awesome to see another female with small hands rocking out! Thanks for giving me hope that with enough persistence, I too may rock even more forbidden riffs.

I promise I don't play them in my guitar shop! Not because they're "forbidden" though, just because I'd feel mortified if I played something familiar and messed it up in front of staff and customers. For this reason I play something I know they'll never have heard of. I like the staff's confusion as try to work out what I'm playing! 🤣🤣
[p.s. Until I'd heard about 'banned riffs' on a certain RUclips channel, I'd never heard it ever mentioned in a guitar shop I've been in, in Scandinavia or England.]

This is great.....in my old shop the forbidden song was Marilyn mansons version of sweet dreams, it was by owner decree but every other tune was welcome
It's been a while since I've walked into a shop to pick up some strings and leave my fingerprints on several guitars I have no plans to buy, but one of my go-to's when I'm trying out a guitar is "Crossroads" by Cream.
I am not so much familiar with Cream so I cannot tell if many people play their songs 😱
I love cream and it's a classic imo. i approve of this song choice very much. also skynyrd did a good live cover version of it back in 76.

Stairway might be THE forbidden riff, but I think Sweet Child 'o Mine is probably the one most often butchered in stores. I know I did it back when I was starting haha. I think they'd be very happy to hear playing as good as this though. That was awesome! \m/ OMG, that Purple Haze tone was incredible! And flawless TTFATF! Some absolutely gorgeous new guitars too. Amazing video, and once again, the intro was comedy gold haha.

Child is the forbidden riff to me because I could simply never stand it😅the whole song I have always been annoyed by with an absolute passion. Solo is alright, but the rest is really just earache to me

The whole "Forbidden Riff" thing is because they are simple riffs that any beginner or average guitar play could play. So they always play them while testing out guitars at stores and anoy the staff. Master of puppets, Reign in Blood, Through the Fire and the Flames? Thos are way to complex to be considered "Forbidden Riffs". I agree with the alot of the list though.
That is nonsense, the forbidden riff meme came from a Wayne's World joke and if any music store actually kicks someone out for playing a specific riff it only proves that they are artists that can't comprehend humor and don't know anything about sales, customer service, the law, or human decency and deserve to be fired or put out of business. Personally I would set up some massive speakers outside and play the same 10 seconds of stairway to heaven over and over again until I got tired of it, then get all my friends to do the same thing, in shifts until they needed me to be their mascot.

The employees at every guitar store went from liking stairway to heaven to absolutely hating it when they had the potential of getting sued for having it played at their shops due to that stupid lawsuit whereas some person claimed that they wrote stairway to heaven even though they definitely didn't write stairway to heaven.
But hey until the lawsuit is settled which it never will be no one is allowed to play that song.

If you actually buy a guitar every once in a while, instead of only playing them, I assure you they will never kick you out. Even if you play House Of The Rising Sun for an hour... BTW there are no forbidden riffs. Those were invented by people who still need to learn them... 🙃
