Regarding dirty items we have paid for. I once ordered pre-made MYA Petri dishes. Upon arrival two were sealed and had multiple bacterial colonies already growing all over the place. I now make my own. It’s unbelievable that someone would have the stones to put their name on a product like that.
I'm puzzled by the use of swabs. It is easy enough to make a spore print (and take a swab from that) than taking a swab from fresh-mush gills. Why endure the inevitable uptake of "gill flesh"? So how did this become the preferred method for sharing genetics?
Some varieties don’t drop spores, for example albinos. So it is necessary to swab them for spores. Now with swabbing spore prints, it is a way to make it shareable to many people, rather than just 1 person.

pro tip. if you only use a single swab, you can break off one onch of the stem of the other one (still in the pack) and reseal it with an impulse sealer / vacuum sealer. (open from the non-cotton end)
I like your content, but logic tells me to cut a small slit on the wooden end, pull out through the cut and the other swab is still clean in the pack...growing some huge pe for a first. Thanks for all the great info!
Yes, but at the cost of potentially dirtying the first swab by pulling it out where it first went in as I mention in the video. The method that I show is to ensure that does not happen.
I have a question: If I were to grow sclerotia and inoculate a 2.5-3 kilogram bag and grow invetro, would it produce enough healthy stones or truffles, or would it produce a few?
@Mycophilia thank you for replying to me in a timely manner and providing me with the information I seeked, You're a stand-up guy! I appreciate it very much.

Thanks for another great educational vid!

Great video. I think this is the best demonstration of putting swab to agar I have come across. Thanks for the content! Mush love
You are the first one i have heard explaining the albinos not releasing sppres, i was very confuses about that. Thank you very much
Lol you know they are sending ya butt swabs just to see if you put it on a plate 😂 I had a decent head injury and and the er swabbed me.
😆
I have a hard time getting spore swabs to germinate. Next time I'm going to try dipping them in sterile water like you were saying. fingers crossed!
Great video. Thanks again for everything! I'm going to swab my avalanche tomorrow 🙏
Sending this to the crew

I have got to get a nomad. I have the envy. Perfect for my setup and needs. Hopefully Santa 🎅 helps me 😊 thanks for the work and vid as always ✌️
If you’re looking to replace a SAB, I would get a bigger model, but for xfers and swabbing they’re perfect 😊

Ive had issues just making the agar
It's such a relief to hear I'm not the only one using hypofluorous acid to sterilize my hands and plates.
I'm looking into this now, thank you
Pardon my ignorance but how do I search for specific videos on your page. Specifically "all in one insta pot " the warm setting one for casing layers.
Just type into the YT search bar “Mycophilia instant pot”, it should come up

No difference from growing in jars. Depends on genetics mainly.

Some great tips for swabs that I had not seen before. Thank you! Would you say to do about 4 or 5 plates per swab?
Yep!
@@Mycophilia Awesome! Thanks! I'm going to set up my SAB and get to work!!!

1:58 I can guess that they swabbed very dirty gills.
It’s way past dirty gills sometimes, it’s more like they swabbed something else 🙃
