    1. temper the file down by heating it.
    2. cut, grind, make bewels
    3. harden the blade by heat treat
    4. clean
    5. make a nice handle
    6. sharpen the blade
    7. done
    without heat treating the knife will be too fragile and easy to brake.

      yeap files are know for that... at least the old forever rockwell 64 ones, they shatter under free fall from hand high. But man the knife is beautiful.

      El cuchillo no se romperá por que no será utilizado para trabajo de impacto, pero sí perderá su filo con mayor rapidez.

    Not using additional material for a handle creates a slim knife. The only issue would be wet hands may make the knife tough to handle. Great project with minimal expensive tools.
    Your workshop is similar to a neighbors whereby he used to create candlesticks, lamps and cutlery.

    There's no heat treat on that and it's averagely sharp, the edges wont last long if you make it even sharper. Heat treat it and i'd call that a perfect blade, though the handle is a bit small. Might wanna use some handle on that. Still way better than what i could do.

    • @DarkWidget
      @DarkWidget 8 месяцев назад

      You do know files are treated from the store right??

    • @shady8273
      @shady8273 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@DarkWidget And you do know that friction produces heat? And do i have to explain how hot the metal gets when you cut it with a grinder like that? It burns the metal. The treatment, if it had any, is long gone on that piece of metal.

    • @DarkWidget
      @DarkWidget 8 месяцев назад

      @@shady8273 You do know that you can see the temperature on color changes, yes? And no, this piece doesn't seem to reach it. You can keep the heat treatment if you're not too aggressive with the grinder/sander =)

    • @shady8273
      @shady8273 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@DarkWidget fair, but it's really not much work to ensure a good heat treat again. Why not?

    • @DarkWidget
      @DarkWidget 8 месяцев назад

      @@shady8273 it kind of is, if you don't have the stuff needed at disposal which I imagine is the reason since the whole video is using simple tools that people who probably don't make knives usually have home. It's just a guess tho
