Pretty much the first new crossover since the Dodge Journey that was discontinued in 2020 along with the iconic Dodge Caravan.
The Journey was pretty popular so I expect similar results from this thing
This should honestly dominate CDJR’s other midsized crossovers like the Jeep Compass and Jeep Cherokee, the Dealership I work for has 4 being built, 2 of them are presold
I like the Hornet. It is a nice concept and has good execution.
This vehicle is interesting, but it's made in Italy. I want my vehicles made here in North America. Also, it's nice to see MOPAR remembering their purchase of AMC by bringing back one of AMC's classic nameplates.
The GLH needs a manual 6 speed transmission.
Not sure why it’s not offered considering it’s “performance” focused
@@MarspeedCars I 100% agree with you
This exactly how I saw the Dodge Nitro looking if they kept it around.
The Hornet sounds like a fun crossover with a combination of practicality and performance. The interior is very attractive. I like how it's not so very tech-savvy vs many other vehicles made in the past 1-3 years. Some styling cues I noticed that come from the last gen Dart include the front and rear fascia and the front hood. This is a big step forward for Dodge, as they needed a performance-oriented compact car and a 5 passenger compact SUV or crossover.
It's just too bad they didn't resurrect the Omni name for this crossover.
Great looking! Trying to get the RT PHEV.
Please do a video of the Chrysler New Yorker, a nameplate that was used for 52 years. I know it’s not an exciting vehicle lol but definitely some interesting history there and many of them were unique vehicles. We had a 1986 when I was a kid and the tech was pretty cool, and I had a 1990 New Yorker Fifth Avenue as my first car. Real panty dropper 😅 but the room and luxurious comfort, ride and handling are superior to anything on the road today in my opinion. I know a lot about them and would be happy to be of whatever help I can if you do a video! 😁 Definitely a Mopar vehicle that was very well thought of but became one of Mopar’s many unknown vehicles that they didn’t put any time or effort into, hence why we don’t have it today lol.
I'm curious about not using the 9-speed transmission in the r/t model. Is it because it's not hybrid friendly? My understanding is the ZF transmission is very good. I don't know much about the six-speed transmission they would be using in the r/t model.
I’m getting one for my daily driver 😎
Preorder mine, I love the look of this car !!
It will be a very popular rental vehicle. I love it though
going to check it
I really love the Dodge Hornet, it has nice looks, good power, and it’s not fully electric! Dodge did good on it.
Totally agree with you, performance is decent too for this segment, and it looks really good
Well Dodge didn't do sh**. They stole it from Alfa Romeo. Total money grab and just a joke! Completely ripped from Alfa Romeo after Alfa Romeo did all the engineering, design and research. What an f'ing joke!!
It'll be a great car for you to go get your soy latte in.
I like it. I would buy one
What's the seating capacity for this thing? Five? Since Dodge is running a turbocharged four banger in the Hornet, they should put a SRT4 badge on the GT and R/T trim levels, just for fun.
I'm 6ft3 and long legs. I want one but my decision will be based on that. If I am eating my knees or they hit the lower dash, it's gonna be a no.
That's a great crossover! It does have a similar style and look to the 70s model..
They need to keep looking into the 70s and do some more reboots of retro looks. The hornets is cool!
Dodge should bring back the Coronet! A retro Coronet would be a cool idea for a luxury Sudan!
Great, another “Cough Drop” looking crossover
Let’s fcking goooo!!! You just made my day marspeed I can’t believe they are cheaper than a charger
Not bad in the performance department, but in the looks department to me looks like any other crossover on the road today. Certainly doesn’t stand out in a crowd like some of Dodges other line ups.
The glh trim would prob end up being a 2.0t hybrid as it combines the larger engine from the gt and the e-assist fdom th rt. I think dodge made an interesting decision with the powertrains in the two main trims. Correct me if im wrong, but if the battery is depleted on the rt, your only source of power is the smaller 1.3t engine which would make less power than the 2.0t gt engine. So it would seem the rt is only more powerful/faster than a gt under certain circumstances. The rt is getting more standard equipmemt, but is it a gimmick from a performance standpoint?
Are the seats stow away
Can't wait for someone to V8 swap the Hornet. I'll definitely drive that.
I love it but it's too expensive for the coming recession, right car at the wrong time.
Astounding power from 1.3 litres.
meme moteur que le 4xe rubicon wrangler
Current date is Dec 23, there isn't one Hornet in the U.S. My dealer says every one of his orders are still in BX status (still a paper order).
I hope this is not a flop for Dodge when most people buy this type of vehicle they look for a RAV4
I sat in the Alfa Romeo version of this and the drivers footwell is pushed in really far and it makes drivers foot room really reduced. It felt cheep and kind of poorly made in my opinion.
Dodge has 0.updates about the vehicle, been announced several months ago. at least when the maverick was announced there was slowly more and more info about it coming up to the release
It’s nice but it should have been the only test car for this transition to electrification instead of adding the the new dodge charger as well since they really don’t know how well these cars will sale and hold up
What the caliber should have been.
Looks like a hatchback that got a lift kit. It's still ok looking. I'll wait another year when stellantis gives incentives for this. $31k seems a little high
This all-new Dodge Hornet is not that bad for a brand new vehicle.
Do you have any idea when I can configure one on their website?
As a guy with a macan…. i kinda like it, not gonna buy one or anything but it seems legit
Why didn't you tell us when they arrive at the dealers. Have they been unloaded from the boats yet.
I’m no fan of the vast majority of SUVs on the market. They try to have sedan like handling, van like cargo capacity and SUV like off-road prowess all at once. The result is they miss the mark on all of them and they just put me off. That’s just my personal opinion and preference I DO understand why so many people like them. So when the Hornet was unveiled I didn’t really give it a second thought. That said the more I lean about it the more I’m starting to like it, especially the hybrid model. As ab automotive performance enthusiast I like that someone is finally using hybrids to increase performance in an affordable package while also giving a nice little EV only range. With my commute I could drive this to work every day and not burn a drop of gas, I gotta admit that’s a pretty enticing combination.
this things will become hoopties in four years or less 🗿
Am I missing something here? I paid 41K for my 21 Scat in January 22 (yes, it's stripped down just how I like my cars). So, a mid 30's $$$ Dodge Hornet in R/T form also has to be plugged in for 2 1/2 hours IF one wants to capitalize on it's full potential. What about the cost of the charging and the wiring into a garage? Is that free now? By the time you add it all up, I think this Alpha will be about 42K. Lastly, the market is flooded with similar crossovers during a time where the economy may be tanking for the next year or more. Sorry to be negative, but this doesn't bode well for Dodge's future IMO.
To be clear regarding the R/T trim (NOT the GT), it needs a Level 2 charger. " Level 2 car chargers use a 208-240v power source and a dedicated circuit - potentially up to 60 amps." I assume most people have 220 v outlets in their garages. What? No? That's my point. Do your research and find out if electricians put 220 out to your garage for free, especially if your garage is away from your house.
Bring back the viper
Too many nanny electronics cost a small fortune to fix. No rear wheel drive only one tire goes bad you have to replace all 4. 4960 lbs. for the GT with only a 1.3 liter lol with a turbo? I'm not trying to shoot down Dodge I drive one but all vehicles are becoming like this I'm against leasing but unless Dodge warrantied it from bumper to bumper for 100K I'd lease it if I thought about one.
At first i thought the Hornet was gonna be a bad suv/crossover but it is actually quite cool
I kinda like how it looks:(
Reminds me of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio with less HP 5:13
Look up Alfa Romeo Tonale
@@Soncere1 seen it already.
@@ericmotion4488 ok no worries
I'm not sure if you're aware of I believe that you are goes like him was a Dodge cars that were made in the early 80s by Dodge but the original saying since Carol Shelby did work at Dodge was from his time at Ford at the last laps of the 1966 Lamar race where they put up a board and told Ken mile go like hell just like Carol's old saying Venom kills demons
Reading this comment gave me a headache!! WTH??
I would rather they bring back the dart, it was a much better and prettier vehicle for the money.
Built by Fiat (who will not even abide by Chrysler quality standards) and look at the paint and gaps on the hand prepared show cars. So much for them focusing on quality.
So Alfa got a way into the US market for their SUV products.
Marspeed does an awesome job collecting and presenting the facts…that said, these facts are a bit heartbreaking. While this vehicle has Dodge’s flavor and a bit of fun injected into it, the crossover format is the ultimate anti-driver’s car/appliance mobile. This is the opposite of the Challenger in just about every way. Also, I hate to say this but can anyone imagine these things being reliable given their complexity and origin of manufacturing? Can anyone imagine these selling against the CR-V or RAV4? I’m rooting for Dodge and I’ll look forward to trying one of these out at Thrifty or Hertz but I’m seeing another modern Dart type situation. Long live Mopar.
I like the hornet but honestly they could have gave the journey more power and made an GT model with 300 hp
Average tow rating?
In Italy?! Ohno...
Made in Italy ?! Any other countries making this ?
Looks a lot like a Mitsubishi in the front.
It’s crazy how these American car companies now have European DNA. This isn’t a dodge it’s an Alfa Romeo ToeNail or whatever the damn thing is called…and it’s gonna be built in Italy
Who cares?
It looks like a cherokee and we know whats going on there
I think the people will like the new dodge
6 seconds 0-60 for RT not that impressive when you consider RAV4 Prime does 5 seconds and has approx 40 mile range on electric only.
I am liking this new Dodge. A cross between a Stelvio and a Compass. GT works for us. Solves Compass just adequate acceleration. Might look at RT if it has regenerative charging? Will it regen if not charged? Marspeed, your the first one I have heard refer to rear racetrack lighting. The others missed it, not Mopar guys, I guess. Thanks good report. 👍👍😎🇺🇸
Its still only a rebadged Alfa Romeo Tonale, or the other way around - what ever turns your crank. Might as well call it Stellantis small SUV and be done with it.
For where the auto industry is trying to go right now, this is a perfect vehicle from Dodge. Not too knowledgeable about hybrids but the R/T definitely has regenerative braking 👍🏼 haha I’ve referred to the light like that for a long time, true Mopar guy here!
@@MarspeedCars Roger, roger. 5:5! 👍
@@thor8640 Who do you think paid for that Alfa development? Cubic dollars. Dodge Chrysler Ram and Jeep. I dont get your point.
@@shiftintohigh5564 Your statement makes no sense as Dodge, Chrysler, Ram and Jeep would have been long gone if Mercedes Benz wouldn't have bought them in 1998. Sold them to private equity firm Cerberus in 2007, Fiat and Chrysler than merged in 2014. FCA attempted a merger with Renault in France but ultimately merged with the French PSA group forming Stellantis - HQ's in the Netherlands.
My point however was and is that automobile purchases used to be driven by passion for the brand, you bought a distinct automobile you and likeminded identified with.
Today, some conglomerate pools engineering and design into one house, slaps a different badge and name on the car or SUV and sells it under three different names!!!
AND, they are all overpriced these days.
40 grand for a 1.3 turbo.
Looks like an 8th gen Mitsubishi Galant
The dodge dart suv
Hudson Hornet > AMC Hornet > Dodge Hornet
I really want to love it but the fact its a alpha scares me a little, European cars are very high maintenance
Not when compared to anything made by Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, the worst quality least reliable most outdated cars sold in the America's , and funny enough all their cars were based on ancient European designs, now anything not Jeep( at least bigger ones)/RAM will be imported from Italy or France
Lord another SUV..🤣🤣🤣 for you soccer moms
I lowkey want it
If only one of these car companies would do the “hybrid system” correctly (ie diesel/electric locomotive tech) other than GM with the Volt. That’s the best system to use.
The reason why gas and electric is typically preferred is that electric and gas cancel out dead spots in the RPM range . Diesels already have good low RPM torque. Gas especially a small displacement engine will have good HI RPM TORQUE and horsepower. So gas and diesel complement each other and cover each other's RPM TORQUE AND HORSEPOWER gaps .A diesel electric would be very low RPM centric and sporty cars like have good TORQUE AND HORSEPOWER characteristics at both the low but especially HI RPM parameters as well .
@@louisbabycos106 I think he meant locomotive tech, like the diesel generates power for the battery and the battery runs the vehicle. It isn't actually used to move the vehicle. Diesels can generate more power per ci because they are low end high torque meaning they will use less fuel and create more energy than a gasoline engine would.
Sounds like an R/T is actually going to be an R/T. I always wonder who was gonna take a minivan on the track.
There used to be a video, years ago, that showed minivans racing each other.
Shares the same platform as the Jeep Compass, and the Tonale will be sold in the more expensive PHEV trim.
The Tonale has received good reviews, so this should be good. Has Alfa Romeo’s reliability improved, or will this compact SUV improve their reputation?
A knock off Alfa Romeo Tonale … at a much, much lower price … What’s not to like?
It will break and be temperamental...it's Italian auto remember
I’d like an R/T with a manual.
Made in Italy? I think not. Nothing wrong with made in Italy but I live in the USA.
Pass
Idk how i feel about this 1 seems like a mini audi instead of american dodge BRING BACK THE CHARGER MAKE IT ELECTRIC AND WATCH SELLS GO TO 100K+ THIS HORNET IS CUTE FOR SHORT MEN N COLLEGE GIRLS AND FAMILY MOMS
Interesting I thought that dodge was getting out of the car business?
I really like the dodge hornet. I'm Imagine what would the 2024 dodge lineup will look like. Ford & Chevrolet is keeping their muscle cars with v8s. Dodge really made a huge mistake by killing their v8s. Ford, Chevrolet & Dodge are the v8 muscle car wars. After 2023 it's just Ford and Chevrolet.
I agree, they did not need to do this. Make a hybrid Hemi or something. The Hornet is a nice piece to the lineup and maybe add a next gen Durango. Then we will have Charger and (likely) Challenger EVs and 3.0L turbos
@@MarspeedCars Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge are the 3 musketeers when it comes to American v8 muscle. I guess Dodge is pulling out of the muscle car wars since they all hybrid, electric and Twin-Turbocharged Hurricane i6.
I hope they have a light interior color other than black. Personally, I like a light or saddle color interior.
Looks like every other compact/crossover SUV out there...without the reputable reliability of a Nissan, Honda or Toyota. This is what we lost SRT for - this direction? What a joke.
Alfa births a Dodge.
First model year vehicles from FCA/Stellantis should be purchased with caution. I’d avoid it since their record is poor.
Am I the only one who thinks it is butt ugly?
It looks & sounds nice as well as promising but time will tell once these have been out for a bit.
No interest in electric anything as well as turbo charged anything as the less technology/electronic goo that only serves the purpose to mark up the price much higher than it should be.
Turbo charging just means much shorter engine life.
One of these with the 3.2 V6 in it tied to a 6-speed manual would probably do the trick for now.
I think the bay isn't large enough for a V engine--but maybe an inline 6, N/A--though I have no issue with something that's turbocharged.
PLEASE Chrysler (what little is left!) DO NOT call any vehicle a "hornet"! Look at the record of this "title"! (See Hudson and AMC!) This will DOOM the "brand"...Whatever is STILL REMAINING of (once) GREAT CHRYSLER CORPORATION!
I love the interior although I feel they copied Mazda the one true thing here whoever sold this great American car maker to an European company made an unforgettable mistake soon They will kill Ram and Chrysler too RIP Can’t believe the 300 charger and challengers will be gone
Naw, RAM and Jeep make are too iconic to be killed off. Yet.
It's a Fiat. That's all you need to know.
Fastest under 30k at 6.5? For 2k more you can get a mazda cx-5 that'll do 0-60 in 6.1 or a cx-30 that'll do it in 5.4.....
So they took the JEEP MP (Compass) platform and reworked it. With one tiny issue, nearly useless trunk. Hard pass.
Ok?
🤮🤮
Rebranded Alpha toenail 😂😂
the price is laughable at best, with all the features id guess you can probably add $5k to $7k more to the price. and once again its a fiat riding on the dodge name and hoping the hornet badge will sell itself. its a first gen AWD model with 300 HP so it will probably end up in the shop more than its on the road. if you really want a tried and tested AWD, subaru would be the better bet. but hey its not my money and just my humble opinion.
Never liked SUV's to begin with, they are ugly and many of them cannot get out of their own way. I guess this car looks OK if you're into mundane & boring SUV-EV type transportation made by a eurotrash corporation, and it looks like a throwaway car.
I'll stick with my '14 Chrysler 300C luxury edition hemi car and my '12 Challenger R/T M6 5.7 hemi car. They are paid for.
Funny thing, I paid $31K USD out the door in Sep. 2012 for my Challenger.......my, how times have changed, and not for the better.
Quality must be number 1 or the car will be junk
268 hp is horrible it could of atleast had 350hp to compete with ford 4 cylinders that thing is under powered
Having dealt with the Alfa version , this will probably even worse and the Alfa was just junk. Started burning oil and turbo problems at 11, O00 miles. It stayed in the shop so long, we sold it back to the dealer and got a Lexus. It did have a very nice interior for a small SUV. I would run away from anything Fiat and controlled by the French.
Alpha???
@@MrGierigegast damn auto correct.
i had a 1979 alfa. omg what a mi$take
Funny story dude! My Alfa Romeo has 73k miles and is simply amazing. Driven for performance. How did you mess it up? 😆 🤣
It hasn’t even been released yet lol.
Talk about being overpriced. Dodge needs an entry level four door sedan and sell them at a reasoble price. If the Chryler corporation keeps up with thier poor management they will join Plymouth, Pontiac, Oldsmoble, Studabaker, Packard, and the rest of them in about five to ten years.
The Hornet wont last 2 years.
Hay junkyard owners make room in your yards ,
I'm sorry but it looks nothing like the hornet 😪
What a disappointment..
🤢🤮
