Hey all, thanks for watching! A quick point on the model year for this Hornet: According to the latest information we have from Dodge, the Hornet R/T PHEV will be a *2024* model when it goes on sale later this year, though many sites also list it as a 2023. This could shift depending on when the R/T begins deliveries (only the GT is available to configure/order as of March 2023), but that's why Nathan initially referred to the Hornet R/T as a 2024.
It's a cool ricer, but muscle? That's blasphemy!
As an Alfa Romeo owner/fan boy, I just love how much of the brands “parts bin” is being used throughout all the Stallantis brands (Maserati included). Just shows me that the investment FCA made back in 2013 to develop the Giulia platform was money well spent! Lol I hope Dodge X Alfa Romeo continues this collaboration effort.
Alfa is the worst thing to ever come into contact with dodge stellantis is killing dodge with euro garbage
Paddle shifters straight out of the Giulia?
This doesn't share the same platform with the Giulia. FWD based vs RWD based.
@@donaldliverance2597 ok, karen! 😂
@@damilolaakanni no it shares the same platform as the Alfa Tonale.
Have a feeling this might end up like the Journey, the Dart and the Caliber.
Extinct
It’s such a waste of the name. Dart was wasted on that garbage compact sedan, now the Hornet was wasted on an Alfa.
The journey was a smashing success… sales where insane for how cheaply built the car was
@@IanNubbit and they’re all in the junk yard now
@@b22chris Car manufacturers don't care what happens to the vehicle once its in your hands. They care about sales. Be real, even when they seem like they are passionate and care....they aren't. The Journey and the Hornet are not enthusiast cars in true nature, but will follow the same philosophy. Sales, die, revamp, sales, die, revamp...

The big question on everybody's minds though is how much can it tow while running the nurburgring in under 8 minutes?

That area has some of the best driving roads. It's all turns and curves, elevation changes through the mountains and valleys, and even some banked roads. Great scenery too. It's a shame you're not in a RWD coupe made specifically to handle.
In electric mode it may pretty much be RWD, or at least RWD biased.
@@npaladin2000 do we know how fast electric mode will allow you to go before the gas engine kicks in? Most PHEV's have a 30-40mph cutoff. The roads are so good you'll definitely want to drive more than 30 miles anyway. There's also the center of gravity issues. Despite all of the comments to the contrary this isn't a a car. Not going to take turns like an 86, Miata, Camaro, or even a sporty sedan. And that area is particularly excellent for good driving if your car is capable of it. I hope we get to see it in the driving review
Speed limit 50 MPH .........
@@bextar6365 I don't think Dodge has published the speed where the gas engine kicks back on. Usually it's between only 30-40mph with PHEV's.

The base model offers great price and performance, but I can't imagine they're going to move many of these with a price point that astronomical.
Yup saw the price and was like might as well get a crv touring instead.
You do know their is a $6,750 credit right?
I'm old enough to remember when owning a Hornet was nothing to brag about.
Sadly, me too😒
One would never admit to owning a Hornet.
Prior to the merger that formed American Motors, there was the Hudson Hornet, as well.
Still true
im sure it was better than a 1.3 hybrid
20:40 so basically what they’re saying is that the other mainstream CUVs don’t have a performance trim level above $50k that most people shopping for those can’t or don’t want to pay for. I just don’t see it for this R/T model, can get a well-equipped luxury car for that.
Wait… WITHOUT the packages it’s a $44k vehicle!? 😂😂 it better be one HELL of a performance car…..
Escape plug in hybrids start in the low $40k range as well.
45k is avg price of a new vehicle in 2023
That's normal price nowadays unless your getting a compact sedan

This is like Ford calling the Explorer Timberline an "Off-road" focused SUV because they put red hardware in the vehicle.
Because, 95% of people never actually do any serious off roading of any insignificance.
Or the RAV4 hybrid TRD
Actually the timberline is more off road focused than you might think
You should probably look into the Timberline some more. Cause it does come with some offroad goodies. It’s not a Bronco but nice chops for a big brick

For 99% of the drivers out there, they will run out of driving skills long before they run out of car.
I would definitely buy it. It probably drives amazing it being a rebagged Alfa.

I can tell he is new at being the Camera holder. When in confined spaces such as the interior of a small crossover, you need to zoom Out to a wider shot. This interior review really is hard to watch.
I'll take less power for less money....other than that there is nothing special about the styling. My guess it will not be anywhere near a good seller, especially for $52k
Seems kinda like what I would imagine a WRX hybrid hatch would be. If they still made a hatch anyway.
Was thinking the same thing. Great point 👍
From the side all I could think is damn Subaru designed it
Dodge makes great looking cars, that is a good looking car. But their reliability it’s still in need of improvement. Every time I see a Durango with it’s led taillight half on and half off, makes me think, why did they put cheap leds!!!!!!
I live very close to the parkway, hope you all enjoyed your time in Western North Carolina!
I have a 2017 Chrysler 200 with 141k+ on it. Only thing done under the hood so far has been a tune up & oil changes (full synthetic at 6k or 3mo). I have had a blower motor & Power module replaced under warranty along with brake work. That's it. She still accelerates & shifts beautifully. I bought the car in January 2018.
In Alfas the start-stop switch is on the left side of the driver, right below the headlight switch. Check that area. And for God's sake, call it what it is, is basically an Alfa, regardless of what the corporate marketing office tells you. Nothing wrong with that. You basically get an Alfa with the parts and service network of Dodge. I used to owned a 2018 Giulia and it was a wonderfull head turner. Looking at the inside of that Dodge, it basically is an Alfa.
Correct it's basiclly an Alfa Romeo Tonale. Which isn't a bad thing. Alfa's are great.
How awesome. Yall were here in my town. Wasup TFL. Welcome to NC
This is Fresh. And Nathan Always does magical. I can't wait for the GLH Version.
Love the color!
Love it! We only get the Tonale version in Germany. Great car!
Do you have a Tonale?
What could go wrong with a Dodge made by Alfa Romeo with a ton of electrical components?
Shit people say who know nothing about italian cars. I own mine for 10 years. No electrical problems.
Can't wait side by side in one video Hornet vs Alfa difference. Not just one video vs another one
I like the looks and interior of the Hornet. Only a test drive can answer the rest. Looks like a fun little daily driver to me.
Yay, Nathan. Glad he’s still around.
Pretty cool and it seems to be where things are going - looks nice but I would have reservations about those shiny wheel arches - I think they would look hammered in about a week (a month on the outset). This car (SUV/Crossover) may help to boost Stellantis' sales. I would love to see an equivalent to the 80's Omni GLH/GLHS with little more than air conditioning and a half way decent stereo and not much else - I'd beat on it for a year or two then sell it on after I've had my fun....
This will probably flop as bad as the Dart did.
dude, if you need a day to relax or dial it back, take it, it really seems like you're struggling to breath through the whole video.
8:33 is a good example of really heavy breathing while sitting down.
The system is still on SUV overload....That's all they want to sell is a SUV or a EV.
That's because it's what everyone buys.
Looking gorgeous- almost Porsche
Italian Dodge, sounds like it’ll be reliable. 😂
I really want to know the EPA EV range in KM since in Canada there are areas where you can get 10K off for a PHEV that has 50km of EV range depending on the pricing.
I drive a PHEV and it is severely underpowered, charges slow, and is a small hatch so doesn't hold anything. This seems to fix pretty much every complaint I have about mine. I regularly get over 100mpg in the city with the way I drive.
People say it's ugly but I really like it. My current PHEV has the battery under the back seat which is like having 200lbs right above the back tires so it's surprisingly stable in the winter.
Having over 7kw charging in a PHEV on level 2 charging is great as most are limited to 3.3kw which takes ages and is mostly only useful for overnight charging.
Well he said that it was 30 miles of EV range...I don't believe EPA tests range. So if it is listed as a 30 mile range, then it is about 48 km which doesn't work for your incentive.
@@Mike.Macmyazka That's unfortunate. It will still get 2.5k off but that makes it quite expensive compared to other PHEV crossover/Small SUV offerings that get the full amount. It might not qualify at all if the base PHEV is above a certain price, I guess I have to wait for the official numbers and pricing to be sure.
I think the Dart was a lot better value for your money. Sure it didn't have as much power, and never got the performance version it should have, but at least it wasn't 52k.
🤮= Dodge Dart
Look at the price of a RAV4 Prime, or an Escape Hybrid. The prices get up there when you not only add hybrid, but also PLUG IN hybrid tech. This is also a loaded R/T, in 2023. Not a Dart in 2013.
@@TakuroSpirit77 the difference is that those are good cars.
With a fully loaded CX30 (which is the 1 to 1 competitor to this, not the much much larger rav4 or crv) costing 37k there is no reason why anyone who isn't insane would buy this
It also wasn't a plug in hybrid. In today's dollars that kind of set up adds roughly 10k right off the bat.
As someone who likes many different vehicles across many different brands, I see this vehicle being a success...maybe not this trim (as the volume seller will probably be the GT)...but...I really had hoped to see a Renegade 4xe type of vehicle come around and I suppose this pretty much fills that spot. My next vehicle in a couple years will be HEV or PHEV...not interested in going full EV yet...someday in the next 10 years hopefully, but they need to get past the current market and make the vehicles suit commuters and road trips. I don't need 3 seconds to 60 but I do need to see something that can go over 350 miles on a charge without having to spend more than $70k for the vehicle. I see this being a good entry spot for Dodge and look forward to their future models that are HEV/PHEV. If I could get the R/T fully loaded for that 45-50k range, that would be worth considering and if the GT started under $30k that would be even better...at the moment though, this isn't high on my list of feasible vehicles...it's up at the top for smiles per miles but that's not the main reason I'm buying the next vehicle.
Idk why I thought this was a sub 30k vehicle it doesn’t even look like 52k I rather spend a little more and get something like a MDX
Should pay homage to the AMC Hornet...label the climate control panel with the classic Weather Eye script.
I want this Alfa to succeed. I've been watching this channel so long I remember Nathan reviewing the Dodge Dart. I hope I don't jinx this.
GT starts at 29,995 base

I got mine ordered being built in Italy right now! Crazy value for these right now, when people wise up and they start flying off the lots they will raise prices!
Crazy overpriced you mean, right?
Thanks for the great review, Nathan. It looks like something that could be spirited to drive, which is interesting. It looks good overall, except the front end just reminds me more of a car than a crossover, but any departure from the angular crossover looks nowadays is kind of refreshing.
Is this vehicle going to qualify for any of the $7,500 Federal tax rebate?
Has Stellantis used Alfa Romeo's platform for any other vehicles sold in the USA before?

Love TFL! And this Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) would have been a great new family model for say...CHRYSLER, not Dodge!
Dodge needs to redesign the DURANGO to be built on the same short-wheelbase, two-row Jeep Grand Cherokee; complete with that new Hurricane I6 or the 6.2 litre Hemi (in SRT-8 form) and the same hybrid/4-cylinder combo in lesser models. That, along with a new, slightly stretched wheelbase Georgio platform based sedan called "Coronet," in hybrid/4-cylinder, Hurricane I6, 6.2 litre Hemi V8 AND an all-electric version, with the same engine lineup for that Charger Daytona Banshee hatchback coupe. I guess my question is. If this drivetrain is already found what's under the Renegade and Compass as well as being the same platform. Why they couldn't put it on those?
the new compass is getting the 2.0l engine from the Hornet GT but de-tuned to 200hp which still more then previous 2.4l which made 177hp.

Nope, not for $52K. But then, I was prowling the local Ford dealer lot last Sunday morning and found a Bronco with a $64K sticker. I shook my head and walked away. On the other hand, another local dealer has a used 2019 Subaru Forester with 90K on the odo with an asking price of more than my wife and I paid for our 2021 Forester.

52k is a hard sell, even with the power. Goodluck Dodge
I'm not sure where the hate is coming from. Its a hybrid that still has great power and will run a 14 sec quarter mile. It has a real tranny and not a CVT. And about the price...they sell a shitload of Blazers in this same price point, so I don't think they're worried about that
Is it faster than a Toyota RAV4 Plug in Hybrid which has a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder?
I owned a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid for 14 years, and we had a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid with V6 for 14 years also. Toyota makes great vehicles and Hybrids. Thinking about a RAV4 Plug in Hybrid next.
I noticed the charge port is in the back but they kind of made it confusing because it looks like a fuel door. Most charging places are pull straight in so that was an interesting choice. Lastly that price I will stick with my wrangler 4xe which only cost 10k more then this and will be worth 30k more in 3 years and for fun stay with my Mk8 GTI.
I have to ask...the GTI...do you get used to the haptic and does it work OK or would it have been better if they stuck with the Mk7/7.5 switchgear?
As for the Wrangler, yeah, that's a smart money choice. This is definitely a vehicle I would consider on the used market after a couple years though. I wanted a 4xe Renegade to appear at some point...they probably won't do anything like that but this almost fills that spot.

I was upset when Chevy discontinued the Volt because THIS is where the world needs to go, not electric ONLY, but a combo plug in/ hybrid. Lol
This is a 35k dollar vehicle tops. And that’s MSRP, IMO. Dodge incentives should be 4-5k off MSRP. Now that’s what it *should* be. But in reality it’s over 50k for this? That is crack-pipe action. Dodge is seriously off their meds with this one.

Yeah it’s a nice Dodge Dart .
The center of gravity is going to be all off. A Dart would probably carry it's mass through turns and curved roads better. Anyone who's actually driven these "raised hatchbacks" knows they're anything but cars when it comes to handling.
