    I don’t get why people are saying “why are they complaining, they signed up for this stuff, so stupid.” They signed up to be cheerleaders. Not to be abused, assaulted, objectified, and paid almost nothing. Talk when you went through this. Being paid almost nothing, being forced under strict rules, being told you can’t do this or that.

      They aren't forced to do anything. If they don't want the job they can quit. They are not forced to do anything against their will.
      So should I complain that when I worked at a garage changing oil I had to work underneath the car for 10-hour shifts making barely minimum wage in clothes that got dirty. No I signed up for the job! they were grooming standards and uniform I had to wear and other rules! Oh no rules in the workplace! How terrible! If I didn't like it I could quit.

You know...a PPO gets a wage also...he has to pay for his own clothing also...and his weapon. He also has to follow society rules and etiquette´s , and keep a certain level of fitness high above these cheerleaders. he also has to pay for his ammunition and train constantly...but hey...dont hear you women complaining about men...heaven forbid...a PPO must be a great job...with your life on the line and all. For the most part, this sounds like the modeling industry, so maintaining a certain look, fitness, hygiene, etc is pretty standard, and is reasonable considering that their appearance is a major part of the show. And monitoring social media is also pretty standard for any public-facing job. Fraternization is kind of a gray area, and there is certainly potential for very public drama if a player and a cheerleader were to have a bad breakup on field during a game, so if they allowed that, it would have to be very well-managed. But low pay, forcing them to buy calendars, buy their own makeup, mandatory unpaid appearances, and so on--that's not a gray area at all. That's just abuse. They're highly trained performers with many years of difficult and specialized training. If they aren't making $75-100K per year plus good benefits, they're being exploited. Most hard-working fashion models can make that much fairly easily, and since cheerleaders are asked to abide by modeling standards, the pay should be comparable. The NFL can comfortably afford that.

    • @roboslug7582
      @roboslug7582 3 года назад +1

      @@poppinincolumbus5027 Of course they have other things going on. That said, about half of the breakups I've had in my life, or witnessed in other people's lives, have happened when I or my partner had other things going on. In fact, being busy with other things has often been the reason for the breakup. Cheerleaders are pretty normal folks, so I'd imagine that they have pretty normal breakups. And being on the field with someone you just broke up with could cause unwanted drama. Then again, in the age of social media and reality television, drama might actually get ratings. On second thought, maybe they should be required to date players, and get it all on camera.....

Yet in your mind they "suffer these jobs" because they just might want attention or to land a husband?! Rick....it's time to get with the times. How about this explanation instead? These are strong women who have dedicated their lives to the passion of dancing -- not unlike any other artist -- who then see an opportunity to indulge that passion in a position which affords them a higher profile and resume' and a way to entertain a PAYING audience with their skills -- again, not unlike any other artist or entrepreneur --- and they deserve to be paid commensurate to the profitability of their employer for the attention and prestige they bring to said employer? The host of the video said that that cheerleaders lawyer even said it was discrimination. The cheerleaders are treated so unfair. With all the horrible officiating that is going on in recent years and the games being rigged. This unfairness to cheerleaders just adds to the bad side of the nfl. Super interesting how a lot of this applies to other performance areas, like theater/musical theater. Some of these are unofficial rules, some are my experiences across community to professional theater, but many others are just standard in your contract.
    -Not being able to eat/drink in costume (literally only water) is totally standard and reasonable imo. If something goes wrong with them, you will be fined.
    -Being reprimanded for bringing the wrong costume/makeup/props is obv common (that’s why most stuff is always kept at theater - you can’t bring things home). You won’t get far with that habit.
    -You’ll have your makeup/hair set for that show across performances, you HAVE to follow that. Basically, consistency across performances is usually a huge focus.
    -No complaining is 100% a thing and is just understood - if you’re a performer, you’re totally replaceable and it’s not uncommon to be told that. One of the most important things for your career is simply that everybody likes you and you’re in good favor. Because you’ll continue getting work that way. But “likes you” can mean a lot of things (you make them money, you don’t complain, etc). One exasperated look from you can change that perception.
    -Cheerleaders have to be there 5 hours early, call for theatre is usually 2-3 hours before performance, more for complex costumes. Also gotta warmup voice, body, etc.
    -Not paid for interviews/QAs, usually just performances - but this may just be my experience. In the beginning I was in (shitty) shows where you’re ONLY paid for active show time, not rehearsals etc. That’s mostly noobs though. Community theater (pre union) is a whole other deal - in my hometown no one gets paid at all. That’s completely location depended though.
    It seems like the big differences for cheerleaders vs other performers are 1)they control a lot of your life outside the stadium 2) they pay a lot out of pocket 3) no sitting (though totally common in theatre to be on your feet the entire 3 hours).
    Basically, disagreeing with this process simply means you can’t do what you love. Because there are thousands upon thousands who would follow these rules (and much, much more) to do so.

      I agree with what you are saying. I used to do ballet and we were only allowed to eat once we were in our leos, and couldn't really eat though because of so many quick changes that were being made. Another thing that was also ridiculous was that they got annoyed at us if we were late even if it was completely out of our hand.
      In terms of my view on these rules, I believe that these are absolutely ridiculous as there is clear gender discrimination, and the fact that they cannot even stay in the same resturant or go to a party with them. I also find that they make such a minimal wage is ridiculous, at least pay them the same as the mascots!!!

In order to be on an elite squad like the NFL cheerleaders are you have to be so physically fit and strong that being overweight isn't really an option, I knew while cheering that at the weight I was I would have to push hard to loose it before going for a better team, not for the image of the team but for the safety of myself and my team mates.

    I don't think it is unfair to fine someone if they show up on game day without the proper equipment. If I have a project at work, I go over and over and over everything I need and make sure it is packed the day before. That is just being professional. Show up to do your job. With that said, if the team requires a person to look a certain way or have certain equipment (e.g. uniforms, boots, stockings etc) then the team should pay for it. My company requires certain things for me to do my job and they pay for it. And if I pay for it, they reimburse me. I think too many of these teams think that because they have a certain prestige (e.g. the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders) that they can treat their people horribly and yes, some people will still try to be a DCC but the teams should still adhere to all fair labor practices and that starts with fair pay for all work including practices, promotions and actual games.
