One time I landed a front tuck with straight legs and my knees buckled (this happened twice in one day) and it wasn’t as bad as a torn ACL but it certainly is painful
@Fairy Animations I think they meant don’t bend your legs too early. As in keep them straight until you land. Some people bend their legs to prep for landing prior to touching the ground, and that’s incorrect form. Legs should bend as you’re landing, but not be noticeable bent in the air. Right before landing legs should be mostly straight but not locked (obviously this doesn’t apply to every skill) and then bend as you land.

*Nastia performing hs double front on floor with knees separated* The Talko: Bad form! Gymnasts: Umm no, it's so she doesn't smash herself in the nose...
The judges dont like it and I think they refer to it as cowboying or something like that. It's a bit of a cheat to get more rotation without needing to jump higher. It's like landing something with your feet apart. It's still great and you landed, but small deduction for making it easier for yourself and not doing the perfect form.
It technically bad form considering judges don’t like the cowboying technique since it doesn’t look good, although I agree that it’s necessary in some cases, I’ve gotten many loose teeth when I was younger from smashing my mouth into my knees
girl i’m a gymnast ive been doing it my whole life and i’ve never EVER forgotten to point my toes pretty sure no gymnast just “forgets” to point their toes
It eventually just becomes automatic to the point where you point your toes even when you’re not at practice or competition. Every time I’ve ever had an x Ray the doctor always knew I was a gymnast because I always pointed my toes just sitting there 😂
Having pointed toes just looks better so of course you should get deductions if you don’t. Same thing for wobbles and pauses. It would look so much worse if their performances had pauses and wobbles and unpointed toes.
Hey The Talko- thanks for covering this! I was a competitive gymnast back in the day and I remember the grueling work out regimens (4 days a week for 4 hours). But you do what you gotta do to make it to the top. Did you know that to improve a gymnast flexibility, like getting perfectly straight splits, sometimes coaches sit on top of you while you're in the splits to apply more pressure, in an effort to hyper-extend your splits? It's true! Gymnastics is not for wimps!
2:47 well i mean like obviously u cant be mid floor routine then just pause and be like 'sorry judges just takin a quick break got no sleep last night just a minute.'

Contesting your score doesn’t just cost money but it can result in recieving a lower score since judges analyze it with higher scrutiny. At the Olympic level that costs much more than $300
I mean tbf it looks like shit, yes it's a technique for getting more rotation but you wouldn't need that if you had good form before you set off, so yes it's bad form and as said gives a deduction of 0.1 or 0.3 depending on how wide the spread is.
10:09 yeah because people can totally notice the microscopic designs on the girls while they’re tumbling through the air sitting 30 feet away from them
The undergarment deduction was a surprise to me. My daughter is 2 years in competitive gymnastics in Canada. I wonder how close the rules are country to country and what level they start getting more strict with them. Something to look into for sure. My daughter is level 7 at 9 years old and in Aspire 1 here in Ontario, the Aspire is geared towards top athletes in the province, I'm guessing that would include more scrutiny with the rules. Thank you so much for your video. I have subscribed to your channel, i like your content, very valuable.
Your daughter is probably only a year younger than me, I can't imagine what level she is now. I am turning 14 this year and I am barley starting beginner gymnastics again... (I have been going on and off with gymnastics since I was 7)
I remember at competitions, when I was about 6-8, we never wore underwear. The hairstyles used to hurt, because they were so tight. Also, we used to train for 10 hours a week, while going to school.... It was fun, but tough and some of my joints are kind of f*cked up now (10 years later)
I’m still in gymnastics but I had a horrendous elbow injury and now I don’t know if I want to go back. 22.5 hours a week is harder then it looks and on top of school as well and doing RUclips please give me some advice ❤️
Yeah, I've been training since 7, I'm 12 now and aiming for elite sense I'm level 8. It gers so tiring sometimes, I train from 28-34 hours a week at gym and 10 at home, I'll probably have health problems when im older
When you’re lazy to watch the whole video, I got you covered: 1. Always look in control. 2. Hair and accessories. hair must be out of face. 3. Wardrobe Malfunction 4. No breaks. 5. Don’t be too excellent 6. Long practice hours. 7. Appealing scores cost money. 8. Point those toes. 9. No pauses. 10. No wobbles. 11. When it comes to legs, angles matter. in split jumps, legs must be 180° or more. 12. Only 2 people each country can qualify for finals. 13. Bring your own shampoo. You must pack the most jumbo sized beauty products. 14. Lipstick vs Nails. I think I missed out sth but ehhhh
I am a gymnast I've never on to competitions I am a beginner but watching this is making me feel more comfortable with going to competition and trying not to lose
It’s the biles double double dismount on beam that was given H in difficulty, not the biles triple double on floor, that got given the credit and is a J
Yeah how is that even a thing? I know almost no woman who would travel without her own shampoo, especially if you have hair that's a bit more high maintenance. Guys will use hotel stuff but even then, often they don't stay in big fancy hotels where you get all of that stuff provided, so they still bring their own.
Emery Ewing And why would you think that try to go up on a beam or bar and try doing what their doing or try having everyone listening to your floor music to your routine while being judged
I am a competitive gymnast and although almost all of these rules and restrictions are true, I feel like this video was a bit more exaggerated than it needed to be. Like of course you are getting deductions for not pointing your toes, having wobbles and not connecting skills. The routine doesn’t look good if you do any of these things. And it’s a mistake that you make. But no gymnast is perfect, they can’t control it sometimes because we are so much more focused on other important things. Like if I were competing a front tuck, I’m more focused on doing the skill without falling on my face than to get a little bit of points off for not pointing my toes lol. Because a fall is a .5 point deduction and having non pointed feet is much less than that.
How do you really degrade excellence? The whole point of becoming better and challenging is to go beyond the limit. Biles was robbed of a letter. Eventually someone will learn and become better in the technique. I believe Biles moves are futuristic and can't wait to see more! 💯😊

The talko: Everybodys excited about the 2020 Olympics
Me: um about that...
About that there's not any
Yeah. We have this thing called a pandemic.......
The more I learn the less I’m interested. Simone should get the best scores she deserves.
And when the gymnastics association makes a mistake...like with Larry Nassar...nothing much happens to them. 😡🤬
What happened
Bronwen Williams their Doctor sexuality assaulted hundreds of athletes over 20 some years. They were warned several times but did nothing.
Sitchinite420 Your Deadpool profile is awesome, bro! I met Stab Lee 3 years ago! Also, the Larry Nassau story is horrible 😞
Though i agree FIG is corrupted, that incident had nothing to do with them.
Josh the gymnast TGI J they were notified on several occasions that Larry had been accused and THEY DID NOTHING. All the girls certainly blamed them. And since they would know best...maybe people should FINALLY listen to them and make the organization change.

Don't most people have to look in control whilst doing their work.
TheGymnastics 1 none of my coaches ever told me “looking in control” was a rule... but oke
whos gonna see their nails while doing flips?!
Actually some judges can I do competitive traveling dance and we are not allowed to wear it bc it can be spotted and if ur spotted u get points off bc
1 if it dosent match costume than obviously ur not supposed to have it
2 someone may be allergic to something in the nail polish
3. If not everyone has it than it just looks weird if ur nails are red or something and ur teammates have normal nails
4 in acro we do some flips and the judges saw a person on stage with purple nails and it would not be ok with the judges
And yeah that's why I'm not good at explaining xD
It’s too distracting to judges
The judges see everything
the judges literally notice EVERYTHING
Hailey K yes and no bc if you have short painted nails it’s fine for safety but the judges can still be distracted and if your nails are to long it can hurt you
Gymnasts: landed a tumble pass

Gymnasts: realized they peed their pants a little
Who can relate to this? I know I can.
I do this at meets and I’m just like OH FRIK OH FRIK OH FRIK

Rain Wendel I do this sometimes
Rain Wendel i remember once i split the beam on a back handspring layout step out connection and didn’t realize i peed a little and got up and there was a little wet spot on the beam😭😭😭

I know the hair and Jewelry and the bra strap one, one because I used to be a gymnast. Also the break ones. Also the long practice hours. I used to practice 3 times a week for 2. It might not be much but I was level 2 so. Also pointing toes which is harder then it looks.
Edit: Thanks for the likes!
Mine is 2 and a half but pretty much the same im in platinum
i practice three times a week for three hours every time so 9 hours a week
Yeah it’s easy to point your toes but it’s hard to remember to do so because your doing so many other things at the same time
A lot of these aren’t technically rules they must follow is just deductions that will happen if they do something. Also I practice 13 hours a week just thought I’d share
I practice 30 hours a week, 6 hrs everyday
the Talko: these rules are so hard on gymnasts!
Gymnasts: BRUH!
@Fairy Animations same
@Fairy Animations same
lol ikr
@fairysugar, same =T
the images used when explaining the "long pauses before doing a trick" don't even correspond to the actual pauses before doing a trick lol
Simone's triple double was given a rating of J by the FIG. Her double-double beam dismount was rated an H which most people agree is much too low.
*Nastia performing hs double front on floor with knees separated*
The Talko: Bad form!
Gymnasts: Umm no, it's so she doesn't smash herself in the nose...
Ashley Scott ya it’s not incorrect it’s just a different technique
The judges dont like it and I think they refer to it as cowboying or something like that. It's a bit of a cheat to get more rotation without needing to jump higher. It's like landing something with your feet apart. It's still great and you landed, but small deduction for making it easier for yourself and not doing the perfect form.
Mary Korten It’s called cowboying, at least where I am from it is
It technically bad form considering judges don’t like the cowboying technique since it doesn’t look good, although I agree that it’s necessary in some cases, I’ve gotten many loose teeth when I was younger from smashing my mouth into my knees
They actually do deduct points if your legs are separated wider than your shoulders (I believe it's your shoulders) -- like nastia's always are, lol
Pointing toes tbh who doesn't know that
also who else do gymnastics but is not very good at it
Nobody lol
Sofya SG damn
Ahem.... Aly Raisman 👣🙈
I do gymnastics but I’m good at it 🥰 I’m a level 4
Lol me I suck at gymnastics
Literally half of these are just form breaks like of course you have to look controlled it’s not a rule it’s just proper form to a skill
i’m a non-gymnast and i’m not surprised by these🤷🏼♀️
girl i’m a gymnast ive been doing it my whole life and i’ve never EVER forgotten to point my toes pretty sure no gymnast just “forgets” to point their toes
gabby kobrowski glad i’m not 😬
Im a gymnast too and it almost becomes a habit to point your toes. like you do it without noticing
It eventually just becomes automatic to the point where you point your toes even when you’re not at practice or competition. Every time I’ve ever had an x Ray the doctor always knew I was a gymnast because I always pointed my toes just sitting there 😂
Rylee Pippel EXACTLY!( I have done it my whole life too. )
It just ends up being habit. Foot off the floor? Pointed.
No one:
*falls flat on back”
The talko: ➡️ wrong landing
Catherine It’s not even a wrong landing at that point, it’s just a fall
When Simone said “No because it’s a secret” I realized I had just watched the vogue video 73 questions and that was the last one. Lol
Gymnastics: “hair must be pulled back right away from the face”
Katelyn ohashi: “Hold my beer”
why does she get away with it tho?
Because if your hair is short enough you don’t have to put it up that’s what I want to do but my mom won’t let me
Julf well yes cuz her hair wasn’t getting in the way, she was following the rules in her way
Having pointed toes just looks better so of course you should get deductions if you don’t. Same thing for wobbles and pauses. It would look so much worse if their performances had pauses and wobbles and unpointed toes.
By the way the thumbnail was actually Aly crying because she was so happy about her routine she did.
These r deductions not “strict rules” 🤦🏽♀️
Daniella Marie Yes they are
Your just not a gymnast and you don’t know what they go through
Maryn Masson I am a gymnast ._.
Maryn Masson Im level 9... pretty sure I know what they go through
Maryn Masson I do gymnastics these are not strict at all
2:47 well i mean like obviously u cant be mid floor routine then just pause and be like 'sorry judges just takin a quick break got no sleep last night just a minute.'
I have very little interest in gymnastics but this video was so informative. Much respect to all the gymnasts out there! And thanks for making this vid!
when they put Simone's easiest pass and labeled it "triple double flip"

"The 2020 olympics has got us excited to see our gymnastics stars shine"
Or not...
These aren’t crazy rules. I call it normal.
Chronically Cassidy me too lol 😂😂😂 blood sweat and chalk baby lol 😆
I agree
Chronically Cassidy as I’m from a dancing background I find these rules common sense and quite obvious really.
As a competitive traveling dancer there normal to me
“They can only wear a stud”
IM A GYMNAST AND WE GET TOLD OFF FOR WEARING STUDS DURING TRAINING AND COMPS
really i can wear those ring ones for practice and its fine
@@hayleysmith347 I can wear earrings for training as long as they don’t get in the way (studs or tiny tiny hoops that barely leave your ear) but in comp we’d def get deductions for having earrings. Makeup too! Unless it’s au natural~ type makeup, we’d get deductions. It confuses me how gymnasts can wear sparkly eyeshadow in international comp and be fine lol.
yup but if you have the smallest stud ever that you cant see it its good
@@nicoledolinski7402 aha ive quit gym now but i think it was because im british and they dont let us wear any type pf jewlery

Anna Simon I know
I used to be a gymnast. Since I was one for over 2 years, I don’t even see these as strict. I thought it was common knowledge.
As someone who has never been a gymnast, it is common knowledge and this vid is dumb
Then you don't know other people don't do this sport
Sorry this is a little late, but one of the girls on my gymnastic team had bright red hair and the judges almost disqualified her. But they still let her compete and it looked very cool. The judges loved it.

Brandon Henry they are becoming more lenient on that rule due to the higher up piercings are so common now and also can be used to help with stress, headaches and anxiety.
Gymnasts are allowed more than one pair of earrings....they just have to be studs
I’m not even a gymnast and I realize how stupid this is
Im a gymnast, and these aren't stupid. No matter how unnecessary these seem, they are very necessary.
Alaya Gutierrez I’m not saying how stupid the rules are it’s how stupid the video is. Everything makes too much sense it makes no sense how it’s under “strict rules.” The rules make total sense, I the way the video tried to make them seem.
@@lynnsetter4581 ohhhh ok
Alaya Gutierrez hi do u lose weight of gymnastics?:( I’m skinny that why
I’m a jr Olympic gymnast this sport is life to most of us it’s not stupid at all it’s what we enjoy for some it even takes anxiety off of us and stress of our home lives don’t judge something u haven’t tried
I'm a former gymnast and my gym was extra strict on these rules. We did so many drills to prevent these things from happening. It can be stressful at Ikea ngl
This is a description of the sport, not rules. They aren't even strict...
Yes that seems to be the case with most videos like this on this channel. They’re still pretty good though

why did they make everything about simone biles, like shes good, but not the only gymnast in the world
edit: i'm not jealous. there is just so many more amazing gymnasts out there that dont get as much recognition as they rightfully deserve.
Why r u so jealous
Fr
Like there’s another’s to
Sofya SG how does that make them jealous?
It’s because she’s a trail blazer and all round awesome competitor. I’m pretty sure they know other gymnasts exist. Relax.
Contesting your score doesn’t just cost money but it can result in recieving a lower score since judges analyze it with higher scrutiny. At the Olympic level that costs much more than $300
I didn’t know this was going to be about only Simone...
Just about to say the same thing...
Exactly! There are many talented gymnasts
Right! Gooooooooo Simone! 😂👏👏
"Oh female gymnastics can't bully each other, what a very strict and crazy rule!" Said no one ever.
I started gymnastics when I was like 7 and now I’m about to be 10
Gymnastics makes myself push myself to my maximum and it makes me happy!
Nastia Lukin separating her legs is called "cowboying", and that's a technique not bad form smh
jessica ly cowboying incurs a deduction of 0.1 or 0.3 depending on how wide the knees are
i’m so glad someone said this lol
It’s also more common in long legged talk gymnasts. It’s a lot easier for a tiny Chinese gymnast to pull their legs to their chest than “tall” nastia.
I mean tbf it looks like shit, yes it's a technique for getting more rotation but you wouldn't need that if you had good form before you set off, so yes it's bad form and as said gives a deduction of 0.1 or 0.3 depending on how wide the spread is.
You still get point off for it tho
10:09 yeah because people can totally notice the microscopic designs on the girls while they’re tumbling through the air sitting 30 feet away from them
That’s what I thought!!
Ya I get it I would have to leave school early have knee and ankle problems I had to quit because of them
Yeah, I've been training since 7, I'm 12 now and aiming for elite sense I'm level 8. It gers so tiring sometimes, I train from 28-34 hours a week at gym and 10 at home, I'll probably have health problems when im older
When you’re lazy to watch the whole video,
I got you covered:
1. Always look in control.
2. Hair and accessories.
hair must be out of face.
3. Wardrobe Malfunction
4. No breaks.
5. Don’t be too excellent
6. Long practice hours.
7. Appealing scores cost money.
8. Point those toes.
9. No pauses.
10. No wobbles.
11. When it comes to legs, angles matter.
in split jumps, legs must be 180° or more.
12. Only 2 people each country can qualify for finals.
13. Bring your own shampoo.
You must pack the most jumbo sized beauty products.
14. Lipstick vs Nails.
I think I missed out sth but ehhhh
Thank you 🌸
I am a gymnast I've never on to competitions I am a beginner but watching this is making me feel more comfortable with going to competition and trying not to lose
6:09 if u haven't pointed ur toes it's not perfect😅😅
Netta's Gymnastics that’s exactly what I thought 😂
Yep!
It’s the biles double double dismount on beam that was given H in difficulty, not the biles triple double on floor, that got given the credit and is a J
“They have to keep their toes pointed.” Well duh. this is gymnastics we are talking about right? (Same for dance)
So.... no one's gonna talk about how 'bring your own shampoo' is considered a rule now
Yeah how is that even a thing? I know almost no woman who would travel without her own shampoo, especially if you have hair that's a bit more high maintenance. Guys will use hotel stuff but even then, often they don't stay in big fancy hotels where you get all of that stuff provided, so they still bring their own.
Maybe they shower after they finish gymastics lol
When nastia did a cowboy double front after her front handspring that isn’t bad form.that helps you flip faster.
I love how she falls and their like WRONG LANDING. lol yea
Ok... Gymnastics has got to be the toughest and most beautiful sport in the world
Paiva Jr i disagree personally
Emery Ewing
And why would you think that try to go up on a beam or bar and try doing what their doing or try having everyone listening to your floor music to your routine while being judged
3:45 I’m sorry- but- can we talk about her face😂😂😂😂😂
7:38 Thats Not a „Bad-Form“ its just a Form to Secure your nose from your knees. There is no deduction for it.
Ivana Shiro there is! Knee seperation
Little Twix Not in These Art of Flips. Its for safety and Many gymnasts do that. I am also a judge, so i Know that its Not a deduction.
All the gymnast watching be like:👁👄👁
As a gymnast myself I think all those gymnasts did wonderful
*15 strict rules*
....
*”nO bUllYinG”*
How do you really degrade excellence? The whole point of becoming better and challenging is to go beyond the limit. Biles was robbed of a letter. Eventually someone will learn and become better in the technique. I believe Biles moves are futuristic and can't wait to see more! 💯😊
A lot of moves have the wrong rating. The entire Code of Points makes no sense. Plus it kills creativity.
idk why this says "female" it's literally like that for everyone
The only thing here that sounded like a strict rule was not being able to fix a wedgie while on the floor.
