I would add a small extra step. When flattening the sole, you may want to do it with the blade and chip breaker inserted, as the tension may warp the body slightly. It can be important, especially when setting up small kannas

Absolutely great content. Well presented. Japanese planes are fun to use. I marvel at their ingenuity and simplicity. I look forward to watching your channel grow. Watching you set it up is a lot easier to follow than just trying to read the instructions.

@Horatio Beaker Thank you so much for such beautiful words. This is my first Japanese plane and behind this video there are many hours spent on the internet looking for how to tune it to work well. I am glad if I could help you with my video tutorial ...

    🙋‍♂️hi. nice video.
I'm still learning too, but I'd like to mention a few things I've noticed
The blade can be bent with an anvil and a hammer by a method called Ura-dashi(裏だし,裏出し)
This makes it easier to get a flat surface on the back of the blade.
When sharpening the bevel, the left and right edges may be sharpened very slightly more.
chipbreaker(Ura-za,裏座 or Ura-gane,裏金) is also can adjusted by hammering the ears.
This may also be sharpened to about #1000, tip is sharpened in two steps
fitting the blade with a play to allow it to be tilted to the left or right for convenience and to prevent splitting when the wood shrinks.
flattening the sole is carried out while the blade and chipbreaker are in the plane to give a precise finish, keeping the blade a few millimetres away to avoid damage.
I probably have the same one. It's a cheap plane, but if you adjust it well it works well.
and the blade is less brittle than more expensive ones, so it's ideal for practice.

Hi Peter, you can buy it in Japan . I think from Japan are the best Planes because the Smiths are really good there, and works with iron and steel is traditionally good jobs there.

@@imi-11 My Dear imi, thanks for the advise. Yes, I totally agree with you about the tradition of timber and metalurgic in Japan. I am setting up a workshop in my house and I am trying to get the best quality tools that I can afford.
