Besides your awsome skills and attention to detail, what I love is the way you have to pass on so much information without uttering a single word. Thank you!
Ione of the few People who’s videos I can watch over and over. You are a true craftsman and I think we’re all richer for you taking the time to share your passion. Many thanks
Nothing quite as satisfying as a well made tool that performs perfectly. This is a great video showing you how to make an Asian style plane that performs perfectly.
I bought one of the cheap Amazon kanna because of a Rex Kreuger video. it didn't take long to get it tuned up and working very well. I think I like it better than my western planes. Thanks for sharing your build process.
This is very relaxing for me. I never get tired of watching you create these beautiful things. What is your working background if you don’t mind my asking? I spent 3 years in Korea in the early 80’s and I miss the sound of spoken Korean. I hear you humming sometimes. I would love to hear you say a word or two. Goodnight from Alabama.
Dear Sir, There is an intrinsic beauty in simplicity in certain things. None more so than woodworking. Being an accomplished metal & wood worker you combine those two elements very well. The results speak for themselves. Very well done. Kind regards.
I think this is a fine plane but I have a couple of questions. 1. Did you intend to set up the plane for 3 points of contact even though its a smaller plane used primarily for smoothing? 2. why did you put a hollow on the bevel side of the plane and not on the "Flat" part of the blade? I am not yet aware of this configuration of blade style yet. Normally the hollow is on the flat side of the blade and you only sharpen the tip so as you sharpen the hollow makes it easier on the tough steel. Obviously you did use only O1 type of steel so it may not matter. Also the results of the plane are very nice! I am glad you demonstrated on hard woods!
Beautiful work. Being stuck at home because of Covid19 I have plenty of time to do this. I will be starting one of these tomorrow. Thank you for the wonderful video says this Canadian
Great job! I have a question though; I have several Kannas and they have the concave recess on the front of the blade not on the back. It is the first time I see one with the concavity on the back. What is the reason for that?
Hey great work. I just wonder why you carved out the backside of the kannablade. It needs full contact to the wood. Normally you would carve out the other side to make sharpening easier.cheers
Shame, the hard part about trying to learn something from a video is that you can’t feel when something is off like someone who’s built hundreds of whatever the project at hand is. Granted you gave me a lot to consider when i start my plane, thanks
I'm a little confused. Isn't the hollow usually on the back of kanna blades, not the bevel side? I realize there are bevel up and bevel down plane types, but I thought the hollow side was universally the flat side.
Yes you are right i am not sure why he did it backwards. The reason for the hollow is because the harder (high carbon ) is bonded to a low carbon steel in the process of making a kanna , which would take a long time to sharpen. So they hollow out the flat high carbon side for speed of sharpening .
Hi there. Nice work. But, could you share with us what metal did you use to make the blade? Was it a simple piece of carbon steel? What is the thickness of the blade? And, finally, why this model doesnt use a chip breaker? The absence of it doesnt make the blade instable when working?

Watching those gossamer shavings appearing from your plane at the video's end gave me a near euphoric delight. Thank you.
It's incredible. How thin those shavings are and even they look stunning in terms of the grain. Beautiful work young je

You are truly the master of the plane. Thank you for sharing the build.
Really enjoyed the video. You do very good work on making the tool and editing the video. Didn’t leave anything out of the story!
What skill you have! I feel happy to just be able to tune up a plane. Thank you!
Incredible!
Unbelievable how much patience you had to finish this to perfection, chapeau !
I am fond of this tool and the way he makes it.
Great job!👍.
Warm regard from Indonesia.
Muy bonita pieza maestro ..con usted aprendí bastante Saludos desde Lima-Peru
Great video. But hollow ("suki ura") that you made on the blade is on the wrong side. It made for easy sharpening and flatening
Very nice. I think I understand the kanna a little better after watching this video. Thank you!

Surprises not only the tool, but also your patience!
Great work Friend! Thank you for sharing the video.👍😎JP
Wow! I’m incredibly impressed!! To make the dai for a kanna is already hard enough, but you made the blade as well.
Amazing work, Mr. Je. I wish you were my neighbor! You are awesome sir!

The Japanese plane seems to make more sense than western planes just like the saws. More control pulling vs pushing. Very interesting.

hi my friend the purpose of the concavity is for when you sharpen the blade you dont have to remove all that steel but just the borders
Wow. Amazing job !!! Love that wood too
Very nice work sir . True craftsmanship . A pleasure to watch you work.
