  • Welcome to Produce At Home, my new channel for all things Audio related.
Not just one of my favourite Clint Eastwood Films of all time but one of my all time favourite Films period. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly and the Music Score in it are perfect together, well I consider the Music Score and Film to be a Masterpiece. Unbelievable to think that it could be recreated live on stage but the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, the Danish National Concert Choir and Christine Nonbo Andersen have absolutely nailed it here...

DNSO does things with music that no other orchestra does. Everything is balanced with no one instrument section overriding any of the others or the choir. They did the same thing with Gary Brooker and Procol Harum in 2006 with a Whiter Shade Of Pale. As far as I am concerned, this is the number one symphony orchestra in the world.

Please take the time to listen to the music to Once Upon A Time In The West by DNSO, and from the same concert that this video was taken from. For me its a toss up for which one is the better film and absolutely a toss up for which has my favorite music. Both by Morricone.
I think that when DNSO did this cover concert they called it the Morricone Duel and it has selections from several of his film scores, (Spaghetti Westerns) as well a few from The Godfather series. The entire concert is avaiable on CD and BluRay. Well worth your time.

There are few pieces that put the Oboe so forward and distinct. Every instrument in 'Ecstasy of Gold' is very deliberate and focused by Morricone's design. It's not thoughtful or reflective like so many classical pieces. Every instrument is bold, aggressive, empowered or haunting. They sear a place into your musical soul that cannot be forgotten.

Great reaction. Ignore all bad comments, they are from folks that do not know what a music-reaction video is. I've seen reaction videos to this that are over 30 min long, so to complain that you pause is just stupid. As a Swede this is also annoying that the Danes "nailed" it on this one. A few things no one ever mentions (as an audiophile):
    1) "wah-wah" is doubled with a harmonica (with good ears you can barely hear it).
    2) the trumpet fanfare a few minutes into the video (the quadruple-tonguing) is so very difficult to play cleanly. As a trumpet player I was never able to achieve this, lol.
    3) I thought the soprano's jaws were going to unhinge when she was hitting that high C. What a voice!

@@produceathome Here a lot of DR Koncerthuset videos just get blocked at my location with nothing to do with trying to do reviews or reactions to them, it's part of the same thing as regional coding you get on DVDs and Blurays. First noticed it quite a few years ago when watching videos on the DR website before they started to post them up on RUclips as well, that was when I first started to use a VPN, does not always work but it does most of the time.
At the moment the next concert I have tickets for is André Rieu for his midsummer concerts in the Vrijthof in Maastricht in July, was there in 2020 and was a great experience, really surprised me with how strong the bass was from that little Straus Orchestra.
      Keep up the good work🤘

Produce at home: great understated (in typical British fashion) reaction.
I think one guy got a note wrong so they strung him up, everything else...perfect, exquisite, I've listened to many other recordings, and I think this is definitely the very best, my favorite. The DNSO is simply the best, best arrangement, best chorus, best conductor, best sound (quality), (love the French Horns), best conductor, the strings were getting it done, also, you know the conductor was quite pleasing also.

The Good the Bad is still a great film but my favourite of the spaghetti westerns is still Once Upon a Time in the West, it's like an Opera, each character having their own musical entrance. Plus that beginning where they're waiting around at the train stop for like 8 minutes without any dialogue just awesome.

Just one thing where you are wrong (but maybe it is me, so no bad feelings hehe :)). The soprano is an opera singer and that is why she doesn't have a microphone on her (you can hear that the instruments are overwelming her voice sometimes), she is singing "a cappella" wich is super hard considering all the brass instruments and choir and drums. I like the ocarina and the "bell sound" instruments by the way and the flute with the little air flow gauge to make exactly the same sound as the movie. And yes the girls singing the "wa wa" has pistol earings on and is supported by a harmonica to give it that effect... nothing electric here appart from the bass guitar and the guitar (of course)

    • @gutocarvalho
      @gutocarvalho 11 дней назад

n the 4:12 we can see what seen to be a small mic just beside the right side of the soprano's face - kind of "micro madonna-mic"". Pleae check it to see that - pehps I'm wong...

Piece of trivia: Morricone produced the score before principle photography was done. So, Sergio Leone would play the score while filming. This resulted in some of the suspenseful long takes which appear in the film. The final gunfight scene is probably the best example of this where Leone focuses a camera on the faces of the three men and then composes the scene with zooms and faster cuts to correspond to the soundtrack such that the climax of the scene matches the climax of the movement. It is the exact OPPOSITE of how this is normally done. The composer usually creates and adapts the score to fit the scene and not the other way around. But one can hardly argue with the result. In many ways the score MAKES the film.
