The lady who sang "wah wah", her name is Tuva Semmingson, a classically trained singer in her own right, she sings everything from opera to standards to pop. A diva of the 1st class. If you look closely, for this concert she was wearing little six shooter earrings. PERFECT!!!
I watched an interview with the two vocalists.Tuva Semmingsen AKA the Wah Wah Lady, as she has been called by the tube, actually likes being called the Wah Wah Lady. She couldn't believe how this performance took off on the tube. Christine Nonbo Andersen is the solo vocalist in the audience. This was her first performance with the Danish National Orchestra. Both ladies nailed their performances and added a stunning element to this Ennio Morricone masterpiece.
Ennio Morricone was a composer of film soundtracks, where he used instruments and objects that are not normally used in an orchestral ensemble. Electric guitars, basses, ocarinas, bongos ... but also whips, gunshots, gusts of wind. Entering Morricone's work is a complete immersion.
A moving tribute for fidelity down to the smallest details is what the Spaghetti Western Orchestra did to him.

I must say Christian has demonstrated time and again her excellence and her range. The lady has a true grasp of the sincere mettle of the piece. Again, I must declare her for her aria which is truly awe inspiring. Her talent is beyond compare. She has performed her craft to perfection and needs to be recognized for her performance.

    • @chrismaverick9828
      @chrismaverick9828 2 года назад

There are few pieces that put the Oboe so forward and distinct. Every instrument in 'Ecstasy of Gold' is very deliberate and focused by Morricone's design. It's not thoughtful or reflective like so many classical pieces. Every instrument is bold, aggressive, empowered or haunting. They sear a place into your musical soul that cannot be forgotten.

It's titled 'The Morricone Duel' and among many pieces from Ennio Morricone has also the themes from 'The Godfather', 'Taxi Driver' or Sonny Bono's 'Bang bang (my baby shot me down)' from 'Kill Bill' on it. The whole concert is pure awsomeness.

The high stakes and your trepidation as you were about to listen had me grinning at the start as much as you were while listening.
The fact it is one of your favorite movies and you appreciation of the original score raised the stakes, but I knew you going to hear something so good you would hardly be able to believe it was possible. Yours was a truly fun reaction to watch, including your appreciative comments and even your pointing out of technical matters I never would have noticed, such as the intentional disruption in the timing of the piano during a transition.

A few things no one ever mentions (as an audiophile):
    1) "wah-wah" is doubled with a harmonica (with good ears you can barely hear it).
    2) the trumpet fanfare a few minutes into the video (the quadruple-tonguing) is so very difficult to play cleanly. As a trumpet player I was never able to achieve this, lol.
    3) I thought the soprano's jaws were going to unhinge when she was hitting that high C. What a voice!

    A Japanese conductor
    leading the Danish National Symphony
italian (roman) composer: Ennio Morricone R.I.P.
in playing music from an Italian movie
    filmed in Spain
    financed by Germans
    and starring three Americans.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Italian: Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo, literally "The good, the ugly, the bad") is a 1966 Italian epic spaghetti Western film directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood as "the Good", Lee Van Cleef as "the Bad", and Eli Wallach as "the Ugly"

The Good the Bad is still a great film but my favourite of the spaghetti westerns is still Once Upon a Time in the West, it's like an Opera, each character having their own musical entrance. Plus that beginning where they're waiting around at the train stop for like 8 minutes without any dialogue just awesome.

This film was set in the American civil war and even now some southerners
derisively call people from the north Yankees. I have a connection to that war in that one of my relatives fought for the North was captured twice, escaped once, shot in the neck, let go the other time. My family has about 25 letters he wrote home during the war. He survived the war and became mayor of Auburn NY after his military service.

I loved your in depth analysis of the recording technology that went into making his production so very wonderful. So many subtleties by the musicians and vocalists that made this an exercise in perfection. Tuva Semmingsen (the "wah wah" woman) was great, the guy who played the "recorder" and the "ocarina" (two instruments rarely used in a symphony orchestra), and she and the harmonica player were "right on" with the "wah wahs!" Loved the symphonic chimes/tubular bells guy and he hit every note with perfect precision. What can I say about the piano arpeggios combined with the oboe solo -- probably the most stunningly and hauntingly beautiful part of the production. Kudos to Christine Nonbo Andersen for that amazing soprano solo.

  • @bertiesworld

I think that what really makes this take. It's the fact that its live. As you implied, live music doesn't always equate to the recorded version. This music really is alive and grabs you. The change of pace really does make a difference, coupled with the man, with the huge hands, playing the piano (how he doesn't hit the wrong keys is beyond me). And the English Horn. Leading into the Soprano. Wow. And the Wah, wah woman who is an accomplished singer in her own right. Nuff said. Top notch to the Danish National.

The concert hall is amazing in itself, and the sound is great no matter where you are sitting. Best concert experiences ever.
There are so many memorable moments from these concerts, but two of them are Diva dance from The Fifth Element (with the most amazing opera singer) and the theme from Interstellar where they used the gigantic organ that's also in the concert hall. Never, ever felt shivers like that.

I think one guy got a note wrong so they strung him up, everything else...perfect, exquisite, I've listened to many other recordings, and I think this is definitely the very best, my favorite. The DNSO is simply the best, best arrangement, best chorus, best conductor, best sound (quality), (love the French Horns), best conductor, the strings were getting it done, also, you know the conductor was quite pleasing also.
