Finally a review of this gadget with an onscreen demonstration of how it works. Thank you a bunch for that! I've been looking and there are lots of people unboxing the thing, but none (save you) seem to be show us how it performs. Cheers. Also, I look forward to the Rii keyboard demo. I bought the N5902 (based partly on your review), but will still consider the Rii if it compares favorably. Keep up the great reviews!
I love the Flirc IR receiver for similar reasons. Plug it in and it works. This has AA batteries, no need for device surgery or parts hunting when the batteries degrade. No pairing nonsense because it's USB. Although the antenna is ill-placed under the menu button, because it is easily blocked by right handed usage over a greater distance, it is still my favourite keyboard/remote. I didn't find any decent candidate for replacing it so far.
@joshstube I've already put the pop-ups/annotations on the video....I'll demo it's use on a PS3 and Mac somewhere in my next video review of the Rii Mini. However if you plan to use a single keyboard with multiple devices, then bluetooth is still definitely the best way to go about it.
I played around with the mouse settings and learned that there is this thing called "CLICKLOCK." If you enable it, then you can simply hold down the left click for a few seconds depending on your settings and it will lock into place. You no longer need to hold down the left click, you can then just move your mouse to highlight or to drag and drop.
Excellent video! I agree with other comments complimenting you on your reviewing skills! I have two specific questions... 1. If you are on an internet video page (say youtube), will the media buttons work to play/pause forward videos? 2. Do you know if it is possible to power on your computer with this keyboard (power on, not wake up from sleep)? Since I have a docking station, this would be ideal to save the trip to press the power button. Keep up the good work!
Apologies to everyone... Since making the video I've plugged the USB dongle into my PS3 and Mac and contrary to the manufactures specifications, it does work with both. I've added a note on the video and will post more details on my website TECHMOAN.COM. My next video review of the Rii keyboard will also cover this undocumented feature.
Really great in-depth review, well done! Though please take care of your left hand, it looks like your right hand has been bullying it and leaving scars.
@joyork Yes...whoops. I remember when I got my first PC with a 400MB drive and the retailer asked me why I wanted one so big - what was the point as I'd never fill it.
Good vid -who knows when it'll see UK release. For those saying they should have kept the trackball. I still think the optical is better - it is much less likely to malfunction due to dirt/grime. Regarding the 'whizz' of a trackball, you can increase your mouse movement speed in control panel to rectify this. Most likely, the same is possible with the scrolling too. One question I have tho: * Is there a key shortcut to allow zoom in/out? (I don't mean windows magnifying glass btw)
@Techmoan Ive found a good free keyboard/ touchpad remote for the ipad or iphone. It's called Splashtop Touchpad. It has a full screen touchpad, and press a button you've got a keyboard. Install the relevant software on your PC and your ready for the off.. Ok, so it's less gadgety than these but works seamlessly.
@Techmoan Thanks for the reply. Perhaps you can add a popup superimposed graphic during the portion so that you won't have to edit and re-post. Still this does limit the keyboard to devices with usb host.
I'll be returning my n9502. The touchpad just isn't as responsive as the n9501 trackball. You kind of touched on this in your review but I feel if you would have used it more then you may have talked more about this. It's a shame too because I love the new scrollbar and backlight.
Love your style re; the explanation Lenovo RW remote! Lenovo should employ you to review their products as you give a very fair and un bias opinion of which is explained in everyday normal acceptable language with no media hype and believe in this day and age as a consumer less of the BS and more of the facts is what we require.I think you should know that up viewing your video re both the rii remote with it's dodgy mouse pad when distance is involved and as you have shown both I bought Lenovo
"Even though it's blue it isn't bluetooth." "You can get URLs into there or tweet or whatever ridiculous things you kids are doing nowdays." You're great!
Perfect for the lenovo q180 when it comes out in uk, I been using a ps3 keypad with a windows driver, works ok but obviously wouldn't be as good as this.
I know this is an old review, I still have mine both 5901 and 02, but lost the dongle, is it possible to pair them up with a universal dongle or replacement dongle. They would work great with a Raspberry PI setup
i bought this so i can honestly say - the back-lighting is pretty pathetic. There's light bleeding and it gets quite dim toward the centre. It also turns the light off far too quickly.

@J273 There isn't much to see. Its just a Mac Mini with Boxee/Plex/XBMC networked up to a Drobo containing 4 x 1.5GB drives.
@DOPPELgameplayVIDEOS Your comment made me test it to see what happened....and it actually works! I'll put full details in my next video.
Excellent as always, sir. We all appreciate your hard work on these videos.
@joshstube No, it's not bluetooth, it still needs the dongle...but surprisingly, both my Mac and PS3 both work with the dongle.
@gamerplay You'll have to wait a while old chap...the Rii keyboard is still in transit.

Thank you very much for another great review. I was so impressed that I bought the N5902 and am really pleased.
Keep up the good work :-)

Another great vid - Would love to see a vid of your Mac mini media center.

I use mine very infrequently and I'm still on the original batteries. I've no idea how long they last.

Wow, great review. Very thorough. Please, keep up the good work! Also, consider putting an affiliate link to things you review in your description ~_^
Great video good information. It is good that you showed us how the new mouse thing works too thank you.

@imroy264 You are indeed right...see my latest comment for additional compatibility info.

@skoda1203 Thanks. Hopefully my videos will come in useful for you sometime in the future.
Will you please review a Ipod touch 4th generation? TY

Thank you James.
@MrRivii See my new note about the PS3 compatibility.
Perfect for the lenovo q180 when it comes out in uk, I been using a ps3 keypad with a windows driver, works ok but obviously wouldn't be as good as this.
@doomprophet Thanks of the info - I'll have to investigate this a bit more.
@Techmoan 1.5tb drives I assume, rather than 1.5gb...
@Techmoan Do you say that because it is Bluetooth . . . or will the Mac and PS3 accept the dongle . . . ?
It does not have F1 - F12 key. Where r those key?
@DOPPELgameplayVIDEOS I think you might be looking for 3:20
does this work on android devices?
Any way of it working on android tablets with usb host? Driver issue I guess...
Does it also works on a flatscreen with usb portal
@brawnbear think thats his business some people actually do work hard in this world

Rii keyboard cant wait ... as I would like to have something for ps3
The Lenovo N5902 will it work with sony bravia EX430
It work with Mac
Logitech di novo mini works better, but it doesn’t charge over USB.
do you still have that asus cube pc? i just got one from a computer shop as scrap.
Can I use these keyboards with the Roku box, have you tried?
would this work on a chromebox?
Do they both work with windows 8?
James May doing Ringo Starr doing Techmoan.
I am sad this is not BT Version 3.0. Then you could use it on almost anything.
You can just change the sensitivity.
Good
Cheers

@DOPPELgameplayVIDEOS although it is worth a try :D
Playstations didn't exist in china at the time or macs.
It's actually my favored choice, just bought a ThinkPad T470p! Taking ages to arrive though! :( Lol!
Totally dude :)
lenovo IS chinese!
Only way this could be improved is if there was sideways scrolling, Bluetooth, and a larger finger navigation button. Lenovo! Get cracking!
dam i just bought the older model :(
H
Talking over switch tests again, hahaha
