Just ordered a Minelab SDC 2300 today and your the first video I searched for. Thank you for all the great info you always share!
So far love the SDC.
Awesome video I was so exited to see you got the sdc . I have had my sdc 2300 for about a year and a half. I do a lot of detecting on the yuba and paid for for my sdc 2300 in about 6 months of that time once I really learned the machine. I bought a head phone adapter to use my own headphones because the minelab supplied headphones break easily. I had to go back an detect all the places I previously went with my old detector, I missed a lot of gold. Then I found a glory hole in some cemented gravel,58 grams in one spot. You’re gonna find gold so small you won’t believe it. Good luck with the new machine!
I have been watching you for years. Thank you. You have taught me alot!! Plus keep the cuteness going:)
I SECOND THAT.
My buddy found a specimen piece in AZ last winter with his 2300 that was about 18" deep. He was patient and stayed with it. 17+ ounces in that one piece. Funny thing is he was getting discouraged and was ready to pack it up and come back to Idaho when he found it. I think he stayed at least another week. Great video Gary, thanks.
I've had my SDC 2300 for a couple years and found over an ounce of small bits in my local area with it. One big recommendation I'd make is to order a SP01 booster from SteelPhase (Aussie company) -- which does two things for you -- one, it allows you to use whatever headphones you want -- and two, it makes signals "pop" out even more and filters out the noise, I have mine setup so I pretty much don't hear any threshold audio, only signals. Have found a few bits as small as 0.03g. Amazing machine.
Bert Rid , hi mate, that sounds great, thinking about getting one of these myself here in Bundaberg. Not much in the way of gold around here so I’ll have to do a bit of traveling to see some gold. Have you head heard about the new coils for this machine?
@@richardlove4287 yeah mate I had considered the coiltek coils but ended up deciding against getting any based on the usage reports and the fact that they aren't waterproof. For me the main benefit of SDC is waterproof ability and folding up otherwise I would have opted for the 4500
@@richardlove4287 the coiltek is ok. Its such a slight bit better i personally wouldnt by one. But its the shape that i see as more helpful.
Thank you, Gary! Good to see you playing with new toys!
After seeing just how small of a piece the Gold Monster 1000 can detect on a couple other channels, I would LOVE to see one in Gary's hands. Happy to see you with the SDC and very happy to see you already finding gold with it. I have a feeling you will be scary good with it very soon.
i do like that my 3030 has numbers and after a while you can tell most times what you have by the number and the sound,, wish we had more gold here in the east
Remember Folks the Aussies make MineLab for their highly mineralized volcanic continent, I have watched little kids 8-12 year olds use the SDC and find Gold pieces and Nuggets. Super video Gary, You Are The Man! That is one durable detector! If you want to know more, go back and watch the first gold target hit @10:20 and listen to that sound of the detector.
I'm happy to see you using the SDC! I've been having luck with mine but have yet to find one you would be proud of 😁
Must be NICE to blow 4K on a TOY...
@@EPSGplayer I want a5000 but I’m not going to pay that kind of money on a toy either. People are crazy!
How deep does it detect?
Wonderful video. Nice and long. Definitely enjoyable 👍interesting to watch a veteran detector take a new machine, for you, on your/it's maiden voyage. And, darn, Jeff sure called it! Thanks Gary🍺🍻
Hello @Two Toes love your work and love the SDC2300 and GPX5000. keep up the great work.
Thanks for the review Gary. I've been watching you, Todd and Benit us the SDC and I'm seriously thinking about getting one once I get the money lol.
I also own a sdc. Have had it for years. Even with the new batteries I still have to put a McDonald's straw in between the batteries so they don't rattle around and switch the machine off/on.
Other then that TT if theres a bit of gold smaller to the same size as a shotgun pellet that sdc will scream glory at you.
I love the telescopic shaft especially when swing up a steep gully.
Good luck mate!
Sam
I appreciate your videos. I started prospecting about 3 years ago and have learned a lot from you and Jeff.
COOL !!!!!!!
@@Smithsgold your umbrella cracks me up everytime
Seasonal Steve thanks !!! LOL 😂
I look at the time of this video and say yeah I've got a half hour for two toes. You make some pretty good videos. Thank you!
Two toes I wanted to tell you and jeff that Jerry Keene literally gave me my first piece of gold. A half gram east fork nugget! Wow! The story was I came in there with a bottle full of pyrite I got off of a creek in Gorman. I didn't know what the hell I was doing and that's how he showed me what gold was. Damn I was destined first success with that kind of start. That was 2009. Mark was like dad are you sure you want to give him that?
Congrats on the SDC Two Toes! I'm sure you'll do well with it. Keep us posted on the headphone situation.
YAY ANOTHER NEW VIDEO I BEEN WAITING. THANK YOU GARY
They also make the best audio booster on the market, steelphase SP01, gives the SDC volume adjustment 👍🇦🇺
I just found my 1st nugget in the yuba river but got dirt from an Ancient artifact site so I'm not sure where just yet .but I tell you this much I'm on to something..tyvm for having me
Hey Two, great video. I like that set up /fold away. I love my whites GMT,it is super sensitive and goes around 6 inches with ease plus ground balance and auto tracking all is easy and simple to set and go. Its a shame they may close their doors soon. In my opinion they made the best machines with full user friendly technology.
Gary, thanks for reviewing the 2300, I have one and I do agree the ground balance is not reassuring, I'll have to trust the machine. I do find lead shot up to 6" deep.
Excellent review Gary. Everything you said rings true.
Thank you for the great review. And, loving that Butte Strong shirt. Paradise Strong!!!!!!
Thanks for making this review.
I've been looking at a first machine & even before watching this I had narrowed it to this one or a similarly priced GPX.
But the fold down & water proofing has swayed me massively in this one's favour.
👍🏼
Oooh its a pricey lil bugger for a first machine! It is a darn good machine though. Just turn it on and go! Dig any repeat signal. And get a small nugget to practice with before you go. And a small nail a piece of rust and so on. Good luck to ya!
Yeah pricey but as you say not much to worry about with settings for beginner , I'll be concentrating on an area with sub gramers & most of all there is no substitute for quality.👍🏼
Spot on on the whites knob machines. I cant wrap my head around the push pad machines.
Hi Gary ✋ I always think of the giant nugget of gold that guy found in the Eastwood movie Pale Rider 😆. Sweet finds 👍
Thanks for sharing your info on SDC 2300.
Glad to see you stepped up to the 2300. Its a turn it on and go machine! One huge problem, is the sound issues. Its been a huge factory defect. And the stupid adapter cord for your favorite headphones. Its a $100.oo get you a cover too! Or make ya one. The plastic so soft it scratches super easy. And those shitty headphones with the thin wires that EVERYBODY RIPS OUT at some point. Andesite is your biggest enemy /hot rock in your area. That first target sounded like gold for sure. The second sounded like a piece of rust or an odd shaped nugget. Dig em all! And go get yaz a 12" x 1/2" chisel and a good hammer! You are going to need it! I love the fold up factor. It rides on the motorcycle just fine, in my backpack. Its just a bit aukward at first. 8" for a 1/3 gram a foot for a multigram.
Thanks Gary. Enjoyed this video.
Great video. I hope you like the mine-lab. Keep us posted on the new head phones.
Will do!
Next Day Two Toes, Thanks for this great videos and for the good laughs.
Nice gold and i appreciate the lesson on the metal detector.
Great video Gary!
Can't wait for part 2.
Great demo and live your review ..love d it
Congratulations! If I were to buy a new detector it would be SDC 2300 for the compact water proof features. Pretty cool that you found that that gold on the trial run!
Glad you are using an Aussie detector. The head phones supplied are only a courtesy. Your sd2300 has wireless headphone ability, so all you need is a pair of wireless earbuds, no worries then about heavy headphones and cords and all that crap, as far as the ground balance goes, dont worry, this is a very smart machine. just ground balance it in a circle around where you are going to detect for about 30 seconds then its fine. this machine is designed to be able to ground balance in the extremely mineralised soils of Australia, for the microprocessor to balance perfectly in your country is a walk in the park for that machine.
That was a pretty good opener to your video 👍👍👍
I have the wireless setup for my SDC. Works Great. I keep the original headphones as a backup.
Like you I had a TDI and replaced with the SDC.
I don’t like the weight of the SDC but given its compact design I can live with the weight.
I still have a Whites detector as a backup.
I have to agree about the weight. I'm not sure if it's weight or balance, but the TDI feels more comfortable to me.
SWEEET!! I can't wait to see it in action!
Run some tests on depth in your backyard (put gold in little ziplock back and tie it with little string to avoid loosing it of cause). Then put few different sized into the different levels and check with both old and new machines - I bet it would be a good plot for another great video! Just one A vs. B machine comparison!
HI LO is the classic gold sound...really soft in the dip though..lead can do that too
My gold monster 1000 only came with a quick setup leaflet- said auto ground balance and that's it. Turns out you can manually balance by pumping the coil up and down over the ground while moving it around. Makes a big difference on noisy ground- thanks Nugget Shooter! Makes you wonder who the hell is in charge of the owner manual dept.
Now that Gary has the new toy, the gloves are off! Watch him clean the hillsides leaving everyone else shaking their heads in disbelief! Lol
I have a Minelab 1000 and it has no problem finding lead shot 6 inches down. Haven't found any gold yet but I'll keep on digging.
thats 4 good reasons ,, i have a minlab 3030, its good and beachworthy, and water proof,,but its way to heavy, about 3 or 4 hours is all i can do at one time,,, and yea its complicated,,, wish i could understand the instructions a little better,, good video, nice scenery
Your pup sounds like it's hot👍 my dog is looking outside for it from the phone.😂😂
Very informative video. Keep it up!
I wish we would have got a video that day we went down and met Jerry and Todd with mr. Gold we all ran across the river and you walk down look around and proceeded to pull nuggets out of the bank well we are all on the other side of the river that was hilarious once again you prove why you're the man
Bedrock Bennett got more when we went back up there to !!!!
@@Smithsgold thats right
I got a video coming when Jeff and I went back up there a few days later.
@@TwoToes That area looks kind of familiar. I guess the old timers didn't it all, Nice nuggets with a nice detector. I hope the big fish are biting.
The pivot point on the back of the coil also lets you get it deeper into crevices and under shrubbery.
Those hot rocks probably should be crushed?
Nugget finder coils will lift your TDI, the 8x6 Sadie and the 12” evo will give you better depth and sensitivity and have it at the edge of the coil. I have a miner John folded 8, it’s almost as good as the Sadie but only at the centre. ( Sadie the cleaning lady)
The coil on the Sdc is buoyant and becomes very tiresome when using it in the water.
The headphones are not waterproof and for what you want I recommend getting a set of waterproof ones that you like. Also if you go wireless that won’t be waterproof either.
Great video can’t wait to see you start pulling out little bits that you would normally pan out.
Good video, good detector...you'll get used to the SDC in no time Gary...!
The 2300 is a great machine and a huge upgrade from the TDI. I have the GPX5000 and would still love to get an SDC. I'd have bought one already if I could figure out how to run both detectors at the same time on each arm. ;-)
Tie it to a mule
wow what a great hunt fam. I'm working with the Bounty Hunter Gold Digger Metal Detector. I hope that it work's out. GOLD SQUAD OUT.
Two toes, I love your videos! Can you make a video of a summary of the treasures you've found over the years, and maybe a summary of gold found?
That sounds like a fun project, as soon as it starts raining - to busy finding gold right now!
They are great I love my SDC2300
Hi Gary. I'm going to start off with the funny part where you said on that first nugget " not a very big one" what?? If that's not a big one I'd like to see your big ones! Anyway, recently I acquired a Minelab F3 which is the military version along the SD line but supposedly has superior circuitry. Also, recently I've seen a lot of guys using the gold monster to 1000. So I had been thinking whether I should sell off the Minelab and get a gold monster, but your video helped make up my mind, which was already sort of set- reason being you said you were going to further test to get the depth capabilities of that machine, and in doing my research on the F3 before I bought it , it was mentioned that it was used in Afghanistan and found supposedly nonmetallic Afghani mines at 8 in deep because they had a tiny metal spring inside of them. That kind of blew some people away. So I'm sure you're going to get plenty of enjoyment out of that Minelab as I will with mine, especially when I can find the external battery pack cable because this military machine weighs 7 lb total and that would lighten it by 2 lb. Anyway, Gary, you're my number one, I love all of your videos and the way you explain how you read the land, rivers etc. Can't wait to see you use that 2300 some more . Oh by the way I'm a old guy too. Bryan in Arizona
I have not had any luck with the 2300 as opposed to my Gold Monster. Guess I need to find someone that can help me. Good job today....
Great detector now I want one too !!!!!!
I think Gary is going to sell a lot of SDC 2300's. He should be getting a commission.
go gary what's that over there grab it and run we could take up a collection for you to get you a minelab let me know I will mail you some $$$$ gold monster ,sdc 2300 which ever one you want
Gary, thank you for all the videos, not only do we get to go on an adventure with you but we also get educated along the way. Who could ask for more.
Hi Gary. I'm just curious, when you discovered that your tdi did not sense very well when it was on the edge of the loupe did you contact White's, or maybe try a different loupe? ?
Well, thanks for the video, and please keep them coming.
Wow.. surprised by the TDI not detecting the edge. Did you setup the TDI for deep detection or dial down to demonstrate the coil edge detection weakness?
I’m still looking for a PI detector.. good review, thanks Gary!
✌️PT
Hello. For prospecting in river beds I belive SDC2300 is a good option as it is waterproof and more easy to pack and handle.
When it came to market was very limited as were no coil options. Now also few coils are available to make it punch deeper.
With the GPX 4500, 4800 and 5000 models you need to be carefull with the unit not taking water. Also moving with those between big rocks is not so easy.
Yep, the older I get the more it hurts when I fall. I tried the TDI on a demo, I could not find small gold with it. I ended up buying an XP ORX, it is light, folds up and will find the tiniest gold. Being old with collapsed disks PI detectors are way too heavy, I'm in agony in about 20 minuets. I am waiting for the Fisher impulse AU to come out, that I will buy.
I hear dog breath! Adds character to the film clips. Gary, you da man!!!
the best headphones you can use without problems is to use IN EAR headphones, they are small and not make your head hurt like the big ones to squeeze the head with pressure and to wearing them all day, it is big NO.
As for connector to the device you can get converter to any type of headphones to use on your likings.
Thanks on the nice review of the device.🤗
Hi
I've been watching and learning from your videos. At some point I am going to test some of the lessons and my own theories.
I have a few questions...
What would you recommend for a metal detector for scuba diving ?
Have you done any prospecting while scuba diving in the ocean ?
Was a hard decision between the SDC and the 4500. I went with the 4500 but both are terrific machines. The SDC is more up to date and has more features, but I got a hell of a deal on the 4500. Found 2 ounces in the first 3 weeks.
Bedrock Bennett has the 4500 and I am impressed with its performance, bit more weight than this old guy wants to carry around. lol
Two Toes it is a heavy detector and we have steep terrain here in Trinity Co just like you have over there. So I can see how a lighter detector would be nice lol.
You cant go wrong. Both are good machines.
I couldn't decide...I went with both haha
Great to see you moving onto Minelab. You need to try a GPZ 7000 for some depth .May I suggest some Coiltek coils to really make the SDC sing. Cheers HH Australia
Is your coiltech 2300 coil waterproof?
Got a coiltech monoelite 14" on my 2200, amazing how much more sensitive and stable than the original stock coil.
But need my 2300 in the water.
Read the coiltech was only water resistant? Have you tried it out?
mORE Mining Products INC Coiltek is not waterproof but really good coil for sensitivity
I think them detectors possibly float. And I know what you mean about the button ground balance. I don't know how to use my detector let alone know if I've ground balanced it properly or not which is a pain. But I think them one's can pick things up 12 inches under soil.
What your SDC 2300 cost you. I guess I had forgotten you sell machines. Glad to see that you are doing well and I hope you stay safe my friend. Good Luck
That headphone plug design is done for waterproofing reasons.
Ground balance on the SDC will outperform many metal detectors.
There aren't too many settings on the SDC, but what is there is all you need really.
At nearly five grand this machine better blow me, too.
@@bashkillszombies Getting blown is temporary. Finding gold lasts a lifetime.
Swiftrick lol. To true
Keep up the good work

I saw your SDC video, also been
Looking at the Garrett ATX. So
I know I want a PI machine but
Want to make a good choice.

Advice
My old TDI is a good detector, I don't think the newer models have as much power as the older one. So far the only thing problem with the minelab is the price and the headphones. I have not run the Garrett, so not much help on that one. The JC - Minin Hawaiian
uses the Garrett and I'm pretty sure he likes it. If you can check and see what the prospectors in your area are using and how they like there machines. That may give a little better info on what detectors work best in your area.
I had an old White's 4900 D (or 49 D, I forget. Very fine-tuning. my best find an internally flawless, F color diamond ring about 5/8 ct with 6 10 point nice diamonds. F is considered colorless. Found 25 gold rings. Gave it to my brother's housekeeper who lives in Fl.
I have a minelab monster 1000 and GPZ 7000. Someday I'm going to add the SDC 2300. Both headphones have the ability to slide the side pieces up so the arch rest on your head better. I would assume the SDC 2300 are the same. Also with all my mind labs there's a notch you can only plug the headset in one way. I've had two 4500 and a 5000 and all cables on any of them have the notch. Changing my 7000 coil from the 14in to the 19in has an arrow that goes to the top. It's a little tight in there unscrewing and screwing it back in. I've had other metal detectors and minelab is the top of the line. Also believe it or not minelab being an Australian company gives veterans a 15% discount. It would be nice if more US companies would do that.
TDi or Minelab stc2300?
Or gpx7000
I am always interested in how well metal detectors do with gold. When I check to see how much it is, it simply is unrealistic on the cost. Do you have any thoughts on detectors that are less than $200 to $500? Is it possible to do a comparison to lower end machines?
Darn Gary you and that sdc are gonna be dangerous ! Look out gold here comes minelab Gary 👍. Congrats on the upgrade Great to hangout with you again 👍🇺🇸😎⚒🍀
I am new to this and was wondering what type of metal detector you would recommend for a beginner?
Can you do a review of Equinox 800 and etrac?
I would like to know what your using for that orange handle digging tool
Are your "favorite" headphones really "noise canceling" or are they better insulating from outside sounds (like the waterfall) than the stock ones? Are there honest noise canceling headphones you could use? I can see that WIRELESS ones would really be nice, too.
I'm thinking the minelab detects around the edge is because it's so much more sensitive/powerful than the old one. I just paused the video to test my gold monster 1000 and it picks up around the edges like that too.
TOTALLY AGREE!!...with your comments regarding Minelab manuals. I want to understand what each control does in detail. They do this poorly and seem to assume some degree of prior Knowledge.
Man, thats a nice machine. I just picked up a Whites GMT. Taking it up this weekend to the Plumas National Forest. Thanks for all the content you upload.
I've been waiting for this one buddy
Damn Gary, I haven't seen you in a while. RUclips stopped giving me notifications for you for some reason.
Hope you video some of that fishin also!
thank you
With the sdc, gold gives a high then low sound,
Iron give do the opposite, you will hear a low tone with a high tone as the coil is moving away from the target..
Very hard to explain in text but I hope you can make sense of it lol
When the 2300 signals with a negative tone, it means that the target is big. Iron has an echo.
A nugget as small as half gram flake shape close to the coil will tone negative. Happy hunting.
I dont entirely agree with that busted knuckles. Flat bits and solid bits all sound different.
Very interesting, it’s amazing how people listen for that 1 sweet sound, but we all interpret those sound in our own little ways. I totally agree with different size & types of gold giving different sounds.
Maybe I should listen for the other sound you’s are talking about, iv probably been walking over gold without paying attention.

I’ve been looking for a good metal detector. I was looking at the mine lab 5000 but dang at the prices. $4000+ is a little more than I want to spend. The SDC 2300 is still $3000+. Does anyone have the 800 or the 1000 by mine lab?
I hear the pup dog breathing 🤣
Pup's working hard behind that camera! 🐺🐕
One of the best metal detectors there is. Couple that with a GPZ, VLF of choice and you have it all covered.
@Member Berries They are like Father and Son
I just bought a Minelab Gold Monster 1000 and am very anxious to use it here in the Arizona desert. I think it will fit me pretty well. I can say the manual for the Gold Monster is not really a manual. A single page (both sides) in 4 different languages with mostly pictures. Very little description of anything. So that, in my opinion is a problem with Minelab. However, there are plenty of videos for the GM1000. Hopefully you have some to help you out if you need it. Headsets that came with the GM1000 are pretty much a non-player and I haven't even tried them yet. Small and pretty flimsy. Any way hope your SDC2300 lives up to its reputation. Thank you for sharing. Good luck with your new toy. Nice gold for a first time out with the new detector. :-)
Nugget Shooter has excellent video's on the GM1000. Happy hunting Bill!
Heavy Meadow Detective Thank you. I actually bough the detector from him. :-)
@@billpowell5931 well heck, you'll be teaching me soon enough.
