Hi folks! I've added a full list of the colours and brands to the description underneath the video. I'll post the high-res download of the swatch chart exclusively on Patreon within the next couple of days. :)
I really like the pebble swatching over rectangles. It is weird how an organic shape changes the perception of how the paints perform. I love and own so many of these colors. I would also be interested in a video of your runner-up colors, as I know how many other dark, moody colors you have. The Rembrandt dusk pink and dusk yellow are gorgeous and I think I will get them both. Thanks for sharing, I always feel so much better after watching your videos. It’s like sharing with a friend who is far away.😘
Yes! It really does, doesn't it? :) I will totally make the runners-up video - I'm excited for it already! I'm going to start making the list in a moment. :) Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment! xx
Hello. :) It's very refreshing to hear that you're also the type of artist that's inspired by having a lot of colors. I tried having only warm and cool tone primaries plus a few convenience colors for years and found it ABSOLUTELY BORING and uninspiring and I never wanted to paint. Now I allow myself to buy whichever color I am inspired by and I am consistently creating art. It's liberating. I thoroughly enjoy all of these swatches and will look into purchasing a few for myself. Thank you!
I tell people I'm an artist, not a chemist, a carpenter, or crafter. I could care less about mixing colors, making paper, or building frames. That's just time away from painting. Plus trying to figure out how much paint I'm going to need or how to mix the exact same color again irritates the crap out of me. I have about 200 artist grade watercolors that I ADORE so I only mix colors if I absolutely have to, which I rarely have to do.
You’re swatches are the very best I’ve ever seen! You’re swatching but you’re really painting as well! I’m a pastelist and use WATERCOLOUR as an underpainting but since I’ve gotten my hot little mitts on those Schminke Horidams I’ve started leaving open passages of WATERCOLOUR with no pastel over them and it’s really making me happy! Thanks for your creativity and lovely tone of your voice❤️🔥🥇👍🏻
I'm more drawn to fairly bright colours, mostly blues, *cough*ulttramarine*cough*, cobalt teal, dioxazine violet. Not so long ago I'd have laughed if someone told me I'd watch someone swatch out a page of grey(ish) colours and love them, but your choices are so beautiful. It makes me immediately want the tundra pink, the lazurite (skies, but maybe also snow? or shadows on white), and the shadow violet. And I also love the pebble swatches, so much more beautiful that little squares or untidy squiggles...
I agree SO MUCH at how fascinating and FUN it is to hear what colors other artists LOVE and how they use them. I , myself LOVE greens, browns, and blues. This was a great video and what a beautiful swatch chart. WELL DONE!
I'm new to watercolors but ohmygosh... Daniel Smith Quin Burnt Orange really does excite me! It just has a glow to it when I put it on paper and everytime I do (no matter how often I forget haha), I go "oooooo" because it really does just SPEAK to me! It was one of the few colors I didn't research at all before buying it, I just saw it in the store on the swatch card and it jumped out at me :) That's when you know.
❤ I love that color, as well! I'm honestly a sucker for ANY granulating color, regardless of brand (though, Schmincke Horadam's newest sets and Daniel Smith are the clear winners in my eyes), and a lot of times, if they're multi-pigmented ... even better! I have an emotional reaction to them. ❤😊❤
Wonderful swatch style! I am a portrait artist mostly, I do appreciate landscapes and florals, but portraits are my main subject, so what I look for any color/palette or set is nice range of red and of course earth tones.… The more transparent, the better. I love the granulating colors to do the insides of the iris /eyes… And I just bought a new watercolor journal that has a binder style notebook with rings. So I am looking to start doing this with all my established pallets! Color in general I cannot live without, and I love seeing other peoples collections!❤️💛💙🤍🖤
I'm converted! I now swatch all my water colours as pebbles! I used to hate swatching in little rectangles as I found it tedious. Now it is a joy, thanks to you. :) I've been in home quarantine with Covid for the last 10 days (free today! Yay!) and I been working my way through all your videos from beginning to end (well almost to the end). I love you videos, your lovely British accent and the gentle music. I've lived most of my life in Australia, but I was born in England and have lived there a couple of times for a short while over the years. So I love your vlogs of the countryside and villages too! It takes me back to happy days and reminds me of my mum. :)
Thank you so much for watching my videos, and for your lovely comments! I hope that you're feeling better, and I'm glad that I could keep you company during quarantine. :)
This is gorgeous! The granulating colors look like they're glowing! I'm honestly a sucker for ANY granulating color, regardless of brand (though, Schmincke Horadam's newest sets and Daniel Smith are the clear winners in my eyes), and a lot of times, if they're multi-pigmented ... even better! I have an emotional reaction to them. A stunningly creative swatch card, Natasha! ❤😊❤
Wow, this is the most relaxing and beautiful swatching video I have ever come across! A wonderful selection of colours, just stunning. I just ordered the Tundra set and I'm so excited! Thank you for this lovely video
It’s so cool and reassuring to hear that you also get enabled by swatches just like I got enabled to buy mine thanks to your swatches ❤ I do agree with you as well I can mix my own colors but I find it less satisfying I like having them ready to go! My favorite watercolors are Daniel Smith : I fell in love with their colors thanks to your swatches ! I have a weak spot for any granulated paint it speaks to me! I couldn’t live without Indigo, Undersea Green, Sleeping beauty turquoise, Bordeaux, Potter’s pink, Quinacridone Coral, lavender and carbazole violet!
Hello Natasha. I love your work and your style. Your content has helped my mental health in the last 6 months so much. Thankyou for all you do and share. Best wishes Casey
Oooo so very enjoyable to see all these gorgeous paints!🤩. Thank you for sharing, I love to see your particular pallet, and your pebbles really show off the paints great! The finished page has an awesome amount of texture, and such a mood to it.
Patty- I have a difficult time having a specific palette. I just love colors. Vibrant, primary, metallic, soft, moody, pastel. I love blues, reds, yellows, purples, earth tones and neutrals. I'm starting to like greens and pinks a little more due to your swatches. Thank you for sharing.
Gorgeous😍it’s nice that you swatched shire blue and forest blue next to each other as well as zoisite and perylene green, I thought those colours were similar but now I can tell how different they are. I bought Winsor& Newton's payne's gray based on your recommendation in another video and I love it, especially next to burnt orange, I also love their potter’s pink. I am most drawn to bright floral colours, hansa yellows, transparent orange, Quinacridones, ultramarine and phthalo blues as well as natural granulating greens and earth tones but in watercolour I am very tempted to collect all the red pigments, from coral to Venetian red, they just have the largest range of values and undertones and all look so different and appealing…and I just paused to count how many I have collected so far.. and I think I may have a problem 😳oh well not unlike most artists 😂
Thank you so much for sharing (and enabling!!!) these gorgeous colors...I love them next to one another so that we can compare. Starting my list of some of these that I'd like to try! Thanks again!
Some beautiful colours here Natasha. I love the odd pops of brighter colours among the more muted ones. I own several of these myself, though I don't think they get used as much as they deserve!
i honestly wish I could handle having so many colors, because they are SO BEAUTIFUL and inspiring! But alas, having more than 15-20 colors causes issues in my brain 😂 I added some super granulating colors to my palette this year (as you know) and it was a huge moment for me lol. So I will live vicariously through you and really enjoy this series!
The first color reminds me also of Daniel Smith “moon glow”-the bright Daniel Smith cobalt teal reminds me of a new favorite ink of mine (into fountain pens and inks)-Diamine Steel Blue-love it for the same reason! Very similar!😊…fun swatches!-ps- love Daniel Smith watercolors in general…
oh wow they're all gorgeous! the way the shadow violet dried was super interesting, and I love the daniel smith sodalite and the royal talens rembrant dusk yellow. payne's gray would be a must in any palette I have, but I also think i'd include some sort of mossy green and a yellow ochre color. I find it fascinating to see the differences in what colors we as artists prefer to use in our work vs what our favourite colors are. I've also been really loving doing pebble swatches, it's quite meditative :) your videos bring me so much joy there's no way I will be able to express it in a comment, I'm always excited to see whatever you create!! thank you
Ooh the Dusk Pink is really yummy! I'm drawn to rich, juicy purple colours normally, but when I swatched the Daniel Smith full dot card, I completely fell in love with Aussie Red Gold...I'm not sure when I'll ever use it, but I needed it in my life 🥰 xx
I loooove the pebble swatches. It reminds me of asteroids floating in space, or lunar rocks. I'm really intrigued by the Rembrandt Dust Pink and several of the Schminke. I feel much better about my stash. So much inspiration in those little tubes! I will definitely look at your Patreon. Your art is lovely too. I have the migraine thing too, on and off, so I understand. It's all about going with the flow, and the seasons
@@NatashaNewtonArt thx! I'm definitely going to sign up for your Patreon... I'm now addicted to granulating grey-ish eggs, lol. I really love your outing in the Surrey countryside episodes with Domenic.... I won't be flying to England any time soon, but it gives me a great peek into the area and some of my ancestral roots.
I’m very new to watercolors so I’ve never seen this kind of swatching before! It’s beautiful, such an awesome idea, even the curved texts in the bottom. So satisfying seeing you fill those up!
Ahhh so much better than any lullaby )) Also, I`m glad you swatched Forest and Shire blue next to one another, I was mentioning in the comments that they look alike, and I`m also glad to see them less alike than I thought. So funny that Ocean grey looks like their lovechild, `cause last time I thought that Shire blue looks like Forest blue`s & Cascade green`s lovechild, at least on screen)) These colours are mesmerizing.. thank you
Yes! You're right. :) Cascade Green is going to be in my "runners up" video. I am in love with that colour now after feeling very unsure of it when I first bought it.
Some very nice colors here. I particularly like the tundra pink as a new color I haven’t tried yet. It looks like a lighter version of dusk pink, one of my all-time favorite colors. Cheers! :)
Ooh Natasha! They are all so delicious! I have quite a few of these colours but am especially inspired by the Schmincke haze colours which I don’t have- And- I have finally gotten around to swatching the volcano and desert sets of supergranulation colours today and am really excited to try them out in a painting soon! Have a great weekend! 😊💜
Oh my, these are so beautiful all swatched out together. Most of them would be in my top 25 as well. I'm a sucker for super granulating pigments, so just about any of those make me happy. Some of my favorites (not necessarily granulating): From M.Graham - Quinacridone Violet and Anthraquinone Blue (love both the color and that name. lol). From Daniel Smith - Cascade Green, Janes Grey, Quinacridone Gold and Quinacridone Sienna. I'm very partial to all greens, but I think if I had to pick only one paint, right now it would have to be the Quinacridone Sienna.
I love the color palette you end up with at the end. Beautiful colors and I definitely had to get more than a few of them when i saw them swatched out! Ocean's Grey, just gorgeous. I love the Shire colors! I love Roman Szmal watercolors, variety and affordable, and will give another look at Lazurite.
Oooooo, I love them all. Am relatively new to watercolours and don't have any of these, but definitely adding W&N Payne's Grey and Daniel Smith lunar blue to my shopping list for starters
Hi Natasha, this was such a calming and relaxing video at this very difficult time we are experiencing. Thank you for defining the two categories into “most favorites” and “most used” colors. Now I don’t feel guilty of buying, but not using some of my most favorite colors. I mostly use traditional colors; but I love to collect the unique and special colors and use them as often as I can. It’s like “everyday work clothes” and “a party-dress”. Some of my favorite colors are: Schmincke Indigo and Cobalt Turquoise ( I have DS, WN and QoR as well, but SH's CT is my favorite ), SH Transparent Orange, DS Moonglow, DS Deep Sea Green, DS New Gamboge, WN Alizarin Crimson, WN Potter ‘s Pink, WN Sap Green, Sennelier Caput Mortum, SN Dioxazine Purple and QoR Quinacridone Gold, to name a few!!
The Schmincke Horadam Tundra Pink is so gorgeous! Reminds me of a muted Daniel Smith Rose of Ultramarine which also settles and lifts differently to when you first lay it down. Love these interesting colours which can do all the hard textural work for us with minimal interference :D
I agree, they're fascinating colours that make textures so easy to achieve. I've loved the look of Rose of Ultramarine for a while but haven't bought it yet. :)
Green, green, green. I love it! From the palest yellow y greens to the deepest darkest blue greens. I particularly love gold greens, olive greens, but not so much the Schminke version which I think is more a mixing green, also really dilute chrome green, and perylene greens, I have two that are very different. But I also love violet pinks too, and very earthy browns. Oh, and blues…. Hmmm…….🤭….. I would love to see your two greens boxes a little more…
I have become obsessed with granulating colors. I recently got all the 45 Schmincke super granulating colors. I know everyone says you don't need all of these but I did! :) I know love the granulating colors you posted today that I don't have, guess those are now on my wish list. Thanks!
Cobalt Teal is a color I love and use in everything! (My favorite is from M Graham). Mother's Violet from Da Vinci is also something I love especially in mixes! :D
I absolutely love this colour collection and your other swatching videos. I have a brain injury so colour mixing is just an exercise in frustration for me. I appreciate all of the different convenience colours you show because they make me think of things I can add to my pallet to make my life a bit easier when it comes to art.
My favorites would include bright and clear colors (like quinacridone pink and new gamboge), warm purples, interesting granulating greens and teals, moody blues..definitely w&n paynes grey and sodalite! And shadow violet gets a lot of use here, particularly in dark clouds :D
I definitely found a few new *must haves*!. Watching your videos is always expensive LOL. Like you...although I can and do mix colours....having special paints really inspire. Some of my faves not mentioned here: Daniel Smith: Moonglow, Rhodolite Genuine. Buff Titanium, Naples Yellow. Holbein: Lilac, Jaune Brilliant #2.
Hi Natasha. I was playing colour bingo watching this! A few I don't have and which look very interesting! I'm definitely going to add to my Schmincke super granulating collection! I've also started pushing myself to use more of my paints by writing them all on a little counter in a little bag and I just pick out 3 or 5 counters and have to use them in whatever I'm creating. Having so much fun with it! Great video, thank you Natasha 🥰 #natashasnewts
I LOVE this idea - it's genius! I need to do this myself, as I find I'll often reach for particular colours when I work and rarely use some of the others. I'm going to do this myself. Thank you, lil' Newt! xx
This swatch card is incredibly beautiful. I would pay a lot of money for this work of art...if I had alot of money! I'll have to make my own now. Thank you so much Natasha. I've been binge watching your videos for weeks now and nearly caught up. I don't know what i'll do when I catch up. I guess more swatching, less watching!
Some of those colours remind me of the rocks and stones I saw at a beach in Wales back in 1995. They were in shades of blue and lilac, really bright when they were wet. It was amazing to look at them. I wish I could paint that.
One of my favorite colors is fuchsite genuine by daniel smith. I like to mix it with the red fuchsite genuine to a nice shimmery grey....and use it for snow, water or hazy landscapes. Also I love the handmade "shore" color by tinyclouds
Thank you for sharing your top 25 favorite watercolor colors and they’re all beautiful. I especially enjoy your critique of the colors. I’m doing pebble swatching, as yours look so good! Mine are in sort of pebble like shape 🤣and I’ll keep on trying. It’s fun. It’s beautiful, sunny weather on the mountain, 73°, today. I hope you are having beautiful sunshine weather too! Love, Fran
Thanks Fran! Pebble swatching is such a fun way to swatch! It sounds like you're having beautiful weather - ours is a bit hit and miss at the moment. Some lovely days; others grey, cold and miserable! xx
Fantastic--thanks for posting, your pebble swatching method is cool, you could actually make small 5" x 7" paintings of several pebbles arranged with a simple background and use them for greeting cards. I'll be getting a number of these colors you've shown....of all the colors here my eye is drawn to the WN Payne's gray, partially for the deep blue shade but mostly because it granulated/separated differently than all the others. I just yesterday received the WN Cotman Payne's gray and am now hoping it performs in a similar manner. I'll do a pebble swatch later today and compare to yours. Have you tried any of the colors from Rockwell Art in Canada? I have their Magic Wizard which is a crazy color, so I ordered three more.
I always love your color palettes. Surprisingly though, some of my favorite colors are not here, as I tend to love qunacridone golds and rust colors. But I agree with you that is fascinating the differences in what we choose. Speaking of, your combination of pinks and turquoises remind me of Sailor Lethe and Sailor Mnemosyne
What a great idea! I love your choices and how you swatch them. It brings out the beauty in each colour. Maybe now you can do a list of runners-up😉. This video was so relaxing and mesmerizing to watch. Always look forward to your videos. You have become my favourite RUclips for art!
Aw, thank you! :) And I'm definitely filming a runners-up video (possibly today) as you're the third person who has asked me to film one, and it sounds like fun!
Wonderful colors I could easily buy them all. Really in love with those on the left, could make two pallets of six each or one big one out of them...but then the others oh sooo lovely as well . I could do more pallets there as well...you don't make it easy for a girl on a budget. Thank you Natasha enjoyable as always.
I can’t live without Indigo. I use Daler Rowney Artist’s version, but the Windsor & Newton is also gorgeous. I use it a lot instead of black, but it washes out to the most incredible inky blue. I use it for silhouettes, it gives more depth than black. Great video, very relaxing. 🤗
How are the Daler Rowney artist watercolors? Have you compared them to the Aquafine? I've been tempted to try the artist line but I have to import them and there are basically NO reviews/swatches out there.. which is so weird since they have been around forever. It's like nobody knows they exist.
@@waymire01 …I’ve been using Daler Rowney most of my life alongside Windsor & Newton, I suppose it depends where you live as to the availability of them, but I’m always very disappointed at the lack of attention this amazing company gets, considering it’s been going since 1783. I started with Aquafine, and I have to say, for a student quality paint, I find them superior to Windsor & Newton Cotman, and most other student grade paints. They’re highly pigmented, and a joy to use, but I switched to their Artist’s professional quality because I started selling my artwork and they’re superior quality along with lightfastness is what I needed. If you wanted to try them, I’d start with their Aquafine and see how you like them, It’s impossible not to be impressed with them and not think they’re professional quality. I hope I’ve helped. 🤗🇬🇧 The colours I’d recommend to start with would be Lemon Yellow, Cad Yellow Deep, Cadmium Red, Permanent Rose, Alizarin Crimson, Phthalo Blue, Indigo, Ultramarine, Burnt Sienna, and Burnt Umber.
@@MoonSpinners I agree completely, everything I have tried is great.. brushes, Aquafine, paper.. their Langton Prestige is just as good as Arches and the regular Langton is the best pulp I've ever used. Nobody in the US carries any of it except the Aquafine pan sets.. Blick has the tubes at a huge mark up. It's weird because it's not just that they are from the UK, the majority of popular brands are from Europe. I have no idea why it's just ignored.
@@waymire01 …you’re right, I love their paper, I’ve always used Langton, I’ve tried other brands, but always go back to Daler Rowney. Have you tried going on Jackson’s Art? I know they ship overseas, and they take great care with their packaging. I buy all my stuff from them. Maybe Daler Rowney just don’t invest enough in advertising their products abroad? It’s a mystery. If a few art “influencers” were to do a swatching video, I bet everyone would be clamouring for it! I’d do it myself if I had enough followers, but my videos are mostly of my cat 😂😂
@@MoonSpinners Yes Jacksons is my primary source for DR, unfortunately the shipping rates have increased so much from last year it's harder to justify it. I just placed a small order and had to go with post, which was the same price as DHL was for a larger order last fall, so I have to wait weeks for my stuff. DHL was over $25 for only a few small brushes (Jacksons is also the only place I know of to get ProArte and I really wanted to try some of their brushes recommended to me). They also seem to be having problems with stock for DR.. they are out of many basic colors with restock dates as much as six months out. I purchased two smaller pads of Aquafine paper from a UK distributor on Amazon to try, and I'm four weeks and counting, still haven't shown up.
It's such a relief, to know now, that I am only a "collector" of art supplies. I supposed to be an addict! I thank you so much for this experience of enlightenment! 😂😂🤣
Gosh how can I choose a favourite these look so incredibly beautiful together! I’m usually drawn to the violets but watching your videos over the past months I’m loving the more muted tones of other colours too, Who would have thought it?!😆 I must say that the shire blue caught my eye and that gorgeous green-gold at the end. x
I enjoyed that so much Natasha! I am happy to say I have 17 of these colors and there are some must haves from swatches. Love the haze pink as well as tundra pink, and shire blue. Also that pale blue color for the sky. The video is over so I can’t see the colors but they are simply gorgeous.
Must have Payne's gray and Quinachridone gold and maybe Indigo as well. I use DaVinci watercolors. I do like your pebble swatching and watching you swatch is really relaxing. :)
So pretty! I have a few of these colors, but I am absolutely interested in the bloodstone and the lunar colors…and haze, tundra and forest collections, and I don’t even paint, 😂🤣😂🤣😂, right now anyway…I can feel the desire to start again, soon! Tfs, Natasha x
Thank you for sharing, love these swatches and the way you do it. I’m just starting to buy professional paints as I’ve been using W&N Cotman watercolours and feel I now need to move on to artist grades paint to improve my painting, so this has helped me decide on some colours to start with on my limited budget 🥰
Did you know that the DS paints with iron in them are magnetic? It makes sense of course, I just never thought about it. You can move the pigment particles with magnet. Luner blue and thier hemitite colors are some of them. I don't know about lunar violet. There are others. I just saw it on the DS RUclips channel yesterday
oh my, to pick a favourite colour?! I don't think I can lol. It's funny, I have started a series of videos where I am swatching my art supplies by colour family and I am constantly thinking to myself "this one is my FAVOURITE" I can say that my newest favourite is Schmincke's new Haze Blue And I love almost all Payne's Greys 😍
I know exactly what you mean! My favourites will probably change a little as time goes on and I try new colours etc., but it's honestly so hard to choose absolute favourites as I love all of my colours!
Because one Payne's grey is never enough, hehe Your watercolour choices are... 'chef's kiss' I loved this video so much, thank you 🐸 would you consider doing a Runners Up video? (Because we always want more!)
Those swatches are beautiful - only three or four of my favourites colours in there, but the dusk colours, shell pink and ocean grey are on my wish list. Have you ever tried the Derwent Graphitint pans? I got mine out while watching your video and they match the moody vibes of your palette! 🤍
@@NatashaNewtonArt am sure you would love them very much, they are all muted colors. I love them so much for landscapes that I have the Graphitint pencils, the watercolors and the big Graphitint Blocks !
What a beautiful swatching video. Thank you so much for sharing these favourites. Not sure that I have a favourite myself just yet but feel very lucky as my son bought me three of the Schminke Granulating sets for Christmas so I have some of these colours already. I could quite cheerfully buy all the others that you have shown but will try to hold back for now. Well maybe just a couple? But how to narrow things down? Happy days!
Beautiful colors momma newt lol I have always loved brighter colors like reds and magentas but since I’ve started watching ur videos I have discovered a love of darker blues and greys and moodier colors lol I still love reds and pinks but now I love darker colors too I’ve finally put my first palette together and now I’m just waiting for all of my colors to dry before playing with swatches I kind of messed up and didn’t swatch as I went so that I knew what color was where so thankfully I have already swatched all of my colors out so I can just match swatches if I don’t remember lol
Bright reds and magentas look amazing next to darker colours (greys, deep, dark blues). Yay for putting together your first palette - so funny about the swatches!
@@NatashaNewtonArt I know the swatches thing is a mess lol I still haven’t done them since some of the m graham colors r still drying but I just know something will b mixed up lmao
It brought me so much joy watching your video! I love the way you talk about your paint and the colours, it really shows your passion but in such a calm way 🌱 I accidentally disliked this video but immediately removed it, I am so sorry! It just happens sometimes with my big fingers on the phone :/
I never realised what a difference pre-wetting pan watercolors made till I was watching you video so thank you for that. I wonder if at the end of your watercolour series you might want to do a review of the 25 tops to see if there are any changes in you mind.
It makes a HUGE difference. Especially for some of the colours that seem to dry rock hard! I'd really like to do a review at the end of the series - that's a great idea.
@@NatashaNewtonArt I’ve only just started moving off student grade paints but prewetting them make a good difference. I’m sure your asked this so other but where do you get that beautiful brush from, it both looks beautiful and a extremely useful size.
Have a lovely time in Walberswick! I would recommend some gorgeous sandy colours and ochres, blues and greys. You'll need a good selection of greens too!
@@NatashaNewtonArt just got back - what a lovely part of the world! Sooo relaxing, a walkers haven, and such beautiful land and seascapes. We took the boat over to Southwold for a mooch about too ^_^ Sadly didn’t get much sketching time in with two lively nephews in tow, but very inspired nonetheless. We will definitely be back to explore a bit more of Suffolk, that’s for sure!
Look into single pigment granulators. The vast majority of these are simply mixtures. If you set up a granulating palette you can not only create those whenever you like, but countless others.. and have the original pigments as well to use on their own.
Hi folks! I've added a full list of the colours and brands to the description underneath the video. I'll post the high-res download of the swatch chart exclusively on Patreon within the next couple of days. :)
Hi Natasha, what paper did you use in this video? Thanks 😊
thank you for the potters pink/glycerin tip. I have hundreds of colors but my gosh your swatching is sooooooothing.
:) Thank you for watching and for your lovely comment! xx
This. You're exactly right.
Thank you!
Preach it, sister!!!
Thank you so much for all of your lovely comments, Robert! I'm so pleased that you've discovered a love of watercolour. :)
These colors and textures are amazing and the pebble shape swatching style makes them look like gemstones! So beautiful!
Thank you, Antonella!
Oh yes! Lazurite would be perfect for shadows on white. I want to try it!
Your color-swatching is a work of art. So beautiful, and mesmerising to watch. Thank you!
Thank you so much, Laura!
I agree SO MUCH at how fascinating and FUN it is to hear what colors other artists LOVE and how they use them. I , myself LOVE greens, browns, and blues. This was a great video and what a beautiful swatch chart. WELL DONE!
Thank you! So glad that you enjoyed the video. :)
I totally get this! :)
Beautiful colour selection you have there Natasha! 👌🏼 That Haze Pink and Teal + Green Gold combo. 😍
@@NatashaNewtonArt Much better, although I little sad that I've run out videos now I've binged watched them all... 🤣😂🤣
It’s her also beautiful and dramatic. Thanks for swatching.
I love watercolor swatching! Thank you.
It’s so cool and reassuring to hear that you also get enabled by swatches just like I got enabled to buy mine thanks to your swatches ❤
I do agree with you as well I can mix my own colors but I find it less satisfying I like having them ready to go!
Thank you so much for telling me this, Casey. It means so much to me. Thank you for watching, and sending very best wishes your way. x
Such a beautiful and Interesting palette!❤🤗
Oooo so very enjoyable to see all these gorgeous paints!🤩. Thank you for sharing, I love to see your particular pallet, and your pebbles really show off the paints great! The finished page has an awesome amount of texture, and such a mood to it.
Thanks Jessica!
I'm very intrgued by Potter Pink and Shell Pink. I love Art Spectrum Australian Grey. It mixes beautifully with opera pink.
Australian grey is such a great colour...so useful and I rarely hear it mentioned ❤
Jane Blundell's blog is one of the best references online for swatches of watercolor!
I agree ! She is THE reference for me as for colors, pigments, brands, etc.
Yes, such a great resource!
Hai Natasha .. your collection are uniques and beautiful ! thanks for sharing this...
Thank you so much, Tety!
Payne's Grey and Burnt Orange = so lovely. :)
My Jackson's wish list is now considerably longer. Thank you so much Natasha.
Thank you so much for sharing (and enabling!!!) these gorgeous colors...I love them next to one another so that we can compare. Starting my list of some of these that I'd like to try! Thanks again!
You are so welcome! :)
Some beautiful colours here Natasha. I love the odd pops of brighter colours among the more muted ones. I own several of these myself, though I don't think they get used as much as they deserve!
Thanks Nikki! I love how adding a few brighter colours in among the muted ones seems to enhance both types of colour.
i honestly wish I could handle having so many colors, because they are SO BEAUTIFUL and inspiring! But alas, having more than 15-20 colors causes issues in my brain 😂 I added some super granulating colors to my palette this year (as you know) and it was a huge moment for me lol.
So I will live vicariously through you and really enjoy this series!
Ha ha, thanks Sarah! Loved your super granulating video. :)
I've also been really loving doing pebble swatches, it's quite meditative :) your videos bring me so much joy there's no way I will be able to express it in a comment, I'm always excited to see whatever you create!!
thank you
That's so lovely, thank you! Ooh, mossy greens - I LOVE a mossy green!
I totally get this! There are some paints you just need in your life and that inspire you, regardless of how often you'll use them! xx
Aussie Red Gold is definitely one of my top ten colors !
@@chrissie4452 I think I actually started drooling when I swatched it out 😆
I loooove the pebble swatches.
Thank you, Vati! I'm sorry to hear that you suffer with migraines too.
Must confess at the beginning I was not so convinced but after watching full video wow! Lovely!
Love this. Now I’m thinking I should pick out my top 25 too!
I’m very new to watercolors so I’ve never seen this kind of swatching before!
It’s beautiful, such an awesome idea, even the curved texts in the bottom. So satisfying seeing you fill those up!
Thank you so much!
Ahhh so much better than any lullaby ))
Also, I`m glad you swatched Forest and Shire blue next to one another, I was mentioning in the comments that they look alike, and I`m also glad to see them less alike than I thought.
Cheers! :)
I absolutely love Dusk Pink too!
Thanks Sarah! The Haze set is lovely. I truly LOVE the Haze Pink. xx
They are so beautiful and I want them all. I’m not really into granulating colours but seeing this swatch card changes everything. 🤩
This is lovely to hear! I'm so glad that I may have changed your mind about granulating colours.
I was about to sleep when I came across this lovely, therapeutic channel and here I am at 4 am in the morning and I do not regret! Best wishes :)
Thank you so much for watching!
I love that! "Everyday work clothes" and "party dress" - such a good way of describing the colours we use!
@@NatashaNewtonArt😄 I actually came here to comment the same about the comparison!
Schmincke Horadam's Cobalts are the BEST! I love their Cobalt Violet, O.M.Goodness! So much! Lol ❤😊❤
Oh, now I want to see you swatch out your top most used watercolours also!!! I've just started watch this video, but had to comment before I forget.x.
That's a great idea, Jaime! I've just made a note of it. Thank you!
Hmmm…….🤭….. I would love to see your two greens boxes a little more…
A video is coming where we'll explore the two greens palettes! ;)
I have become obsessed with granulating colors. I recently got all the 45 Schmincke super granulating colors. I know everyone says you don't need all of these but I did! :) I know love the granulating colors you posted today that I don't have, guess those are now on my wish list. Thanks!
Don't listen to what everyone says - if it makes you happy and isn't hurting anyone, you do what you like! ;)
Cobalt Teal is a color I love and use in everything! (My favorite is from M Graham). Mother's Violet from Da Vinci is also something I love especially in mixes! :D
I agree with you on M Graham’s Cobalt Teal… my favourite as well. ❤️ So vibrant!
I absolutely love this colour collection and your other swatching videos. I have a brain injury so colour mixing is just an exercise in frustration for me. I appreciate all of the different convenience colours you show because they make me think of things I can add to my pallet to make my life a bit easier when it comes to art.
Thank you, Alexandra! I'm so glad that videos like this are useful to you. x
Well I'm inspired to pick out a Greatest Hits as well! Sounds like an appropriate relaxing Saturday task...
It's a lot of fun (even though it's very, very hard to choose!).
Thank you for reminding me i wanted the Rembrandt dusk pink 😍
It is the most gorgeous colour.
My favorites would include bright and clear colors (like quinacridone pink and new gamboge), warm purples, interesting granulating greens and teals, moody blues..definitely w&n paynes grey and sodalite! And shadow violet gets a lot of use here, particularly in dark clouds :D
Yes ! I’ve always loved gamboge
I also really like the Indian yellow from m graham it’s almost like gamboge
I definitely found a few new *must haves*!. Watching your videos is always expensive LOL. Like you...although I can and do mix colours....having special paints really inspire. Some of my faves not mentioned here: Daniel Smith: Moonglow, Rhodolite Genuine. Buff Titanium, Naples Yellow. Holbein: Lilac, Jaune Brilliant #2.
I think there's very few of us buff titanium fans out there, but it is a must have for me too. Always has been, always will be. Solidarity!
@@lightwavz I love how mixing it wiith something else create magic
Buff Titanium is also a must for me, in each palette !
Huge Buff Titanium fan here too!
Ha ha, thank you so much for watching (and swatching), Julie!
Some of those colours remind me of the rocks and stones I saw at a beach in Wales back in 1995. They were in shades of blue and lilac, really bright when they were wet. It was amazing to look at them. I wish I could paint that.
Wow, they sound beautiful!
One of my favorite colors is fuchsite genuine by daniel smith. I like to mix it with the red fuchsite genuine to a nice shimmery grey....and use it for snow, water or hazy landscapes. Also I love the handmade "shore" color by tinyclouds
I have both of those colours so I'm going to try this. Thank you!
Thank you for this! So inspiring. And I am guilty of anthropomorphizing EVERYTHING - are supplies are no exception. It’s the enemy of minimalism. 😂
This is SO TRUE!
Some lovely days; others grey, cold and miserable! xx
Gorgeous colours, all that granulation! Thanks for sharing 💙
Oh my, I've taken Notes, haha! Love this💗
You're a good student, Leah! Ha ha. ;)
Thanks Penny, it was fun to share these colours with you!
The colors look amazing!😍🌿✨🦋🌸
Love my new Roman Szmal❤️🔥🥰👍🏻
The colours I’d recommend to start with would be Lemon Yellow, Cad Yellow Deep, Cadmium Red, Permanent Rose, Alizarin Crimson, Phthalo Blue, Indigo, Ultramarine, Burnt Sienna, and Burnt Umber.
You're welcome. 😂 'Collector' sounds so much better, doesn't it?!
The finished piece of all your swatches is absolutely beautiful! 😍 it would make a lovely little card or postcard or something like that!
I really need to do something with these swatches! Thanks Emily. :)
Gosh how can I choose a favourite these look so incredibly beautiful together! I’m usually drawn to the violets but watching your videos over the past months I’m loving the more muted tones of other colours too, Who would have thought it?!😆 I must say that the shire blue caught my eye and that gorgeous green-gold at the end. x
Muted colours?! YOU?! Jess, what's happening?! 😂 xx

Thanks lil' Newt! xxx (I love Neutral Tint)
Thanks! Such a great video.
Gorgeous video! All of the colours are gorgeous, I have some in my collection already but there are a couple there I will add to my list to get x
Thanks Susan, wow we must have similar taste when it comes to colours!
@@NatashaNewtonArt you have influenced me into more of a muted color range. I really love these colors in your palette.
Must have Payne's gray and Quinachridone gold and maybe Indigo as well. I use DaVinci watercolors. I do like your pebble swatching and watching you swatch is really relaxing. :)
Schmincke's Perylene Green is more darker than Roman Szmals although its more saturated then RS. Beautiful.
So pretty! I have a few of these colors, but I am absolutely interested in the bloodstone and the lunar colors…and haze, tundra and forest collections, and I don’t even paint, 😂🤣😂🤣😂, right now anyway…I can feel the desire to start again, soon! Tfs, Natasha x
Go for it, Jo Anne! x
I'm so glad it was helpful! :)
I didn't know that - how interesting!
Wow… cudowne! Wonderful !
oh my, to pick a favourite colour?!
Because one Payne's grey is never enough, hehe
Your watercolour choices are... 'chef's kiss'

What a beautiful swatching video. Thank you so much for sharing these favourites. Not sure that I have a favourite myself just yet but feel very lucky as my son bought me three of the Schminke Granulating sets for Christmas so I have some of these colours already.

We took the boat over to Southwold for a mooch about too ^_^ Sadly didn’t get much sketching time in with two lively nephews in tow, but very inspired nonetheless. We will definitely be back to explore a bit more of Suffolk, that’s for sure!
@@lawsdraws That sounds lovely! I'm so glad that you had a nice time. :)
Look into single pigment granulators. The vast majority of these are simply mixtures. If you set up a granulating palette you can not only create those whenever you like, but countless others.. and have the original pigments as well to use on their own.
