It was a hard task compiling a list of my Top 25 watercolours, and there were many I would have liked to include. Several subscribers asked for this video, so here are my ten runners-up! Enjoy over 30 minutes of super calm swatching. 🌈 All details are in the description box underneath the video.
My favorite watercolor is pretty much any brand of indigo. It just makes me happy when I use it. I think it's because it's so deep and vibrant at the same time. So beautiful. ☺️
I have a funny problem with indigo: I’ve always thought indigo was supposed to be more purple than blue so every time I see indigo paint my brain goes “ no that’s Imposter-go not Indigo” even though I know good and well I’m the one that’s wrong 😂 quite literally I call blue based indigo Impostergo
Cascade green is one of my favorite watercolor paints. I kept convincing myself I didn’t need it because it wasn’t a practical green to keep on my palette. When I finally got it I found that it was one of those colors that inspired me to paint more. It’s so interesting and incredibly beautiful.
I love pretty much any shade of blue, but especially indigos and prussian blues. The color of denim is such a comforting color for me, warm, beautiful, and also has so much depth.
I’m completely in love with Sodalite and Lunar Blue-cannot decide which one draws me more. They are both such a pleasure to use. I’m happy to learn about Cascade Green becoming beautiful with more water. I was really put off by its tie-dye look initially too! Shire Yellow has now also caught my eye :)
I’d love a set of postcards of your swatches, they’d also make excellent wrapping paper! 🙌 It’s quite hard to pick a favourite colour, but out of these; the Dusk Green particularly stands out. ✨🎨✨😘 xxx
@@NatashaNewtonArt Did you make these and your other pebble swatches available as postcards.. Or laminated or unlaminated prints, or wrapping paper? If such a great idea 😁❤️
My absolute favorite color is more a pigment I can't live without: PR122. It's an extremely vibrant pink that does the most crazy violets. I have it in all the media I use and I can't live without that one. Close second would be ultramarine blue PB29. Oh. And my favorite yellow is transparent yellow by Schmincke (PY150) as it goes from moody yellow to bright lemon yellow. Super versatile. It's the first yellow I ever liked. And lastly for granulation in watercolors, manganviolett PV16 from Schmincke does wonders in mixes. My current favorite would be with petal green for the most gorgeous dark granulating turquoise. I think you'd like that particular mixture.
All these colors are so interesting and, as you say, "moody"! They are quite lovely! I think my favorite color that I would not want to do without is Daniel Smith's gold green. I do lots of botanicals and this is perfect as an under-wash that really brings green plants to life.
Also just wanted to mention that Jane’s Grey is a mix of Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna, so most have those colors and can mix it at home to try! It is a mixture that Jane Blundell uses for shadows, and DS agreed to make tubes for her and for her ultimate mixing palette. We need to ask DS for a Natasha Newton palette! 😜
Hahaha! Natasha, after picking 25 favourites and 25 runners up - which are all gorgeous, by the way - you want me to name ONE colour, that would be my favourite? You are asking the impossible! My favourites vary depending on my mood and subject, and I think I'm not alone in this! 😉😁 Lovely swatching, once again. 😍🤩🥰 And I look forward to the art haul, of course! 😀
Thanks so much for making this video! Sadly, my most favourite watercolour ever is manganese blue, which isn't made any more. So uniquely beautiful, so granulating, so unavailable. I still have one tube and one pan left which I don't dare use now. My favourite from yours is the Royal Talens Dusk Green, wow! I'm glad you changed your mind about Cascade Green, I was one of those people who recommended you try it 🦄Love your videos🦄
Cascade green. Second to Rembrandt Dusk Purple. It was a tough choice, but I usually find a way to use Cascade Green everytime I paint. I like using it to make my weird color potion recipes. My favorite from your swatches would have to be Dusk Green. As my Enabler in Chief 😄, Natasha, I must have it. I ordered Dusk Purple the day you released the video in which you swatched it. As always, a pleasure to watch.
Oh no! My absolute favourite?!??! sooo hard... but I'd have to go with DS Mayan Blue Genuine... Love it!!! From your beautiful swatched sheet above... Cascade Green... a true winner!
Oh my goodness, one paint color? I'll have to say Potter's Pink, specifically the Roman Szmal Potter's Pink. And out of the ten runners up... ah, this is hard too! I'll go with Misty Morning! Thanks for the wonderful video!
The Rembrandt dusk green swatch looks just like an emu egg. I now want all 25 on the list. I’m now sending a request to all of my children that they send $$ for all celebrations (Mother’s Day, birthdays, Xmas, Easter. Etc) or even non celebrations…any time really.
Prussian Blue is one of my must-haves, and my favourite of these ten is the RS Misty Morning, closely followed by the W&N Aqua Green. Thanks for your wonderful channel Natasha 😊
These Pebble Swatches are so beautiful...some of them look also like bird eggs. I think I will do this for my watercolors too. E.p for my granulating ones. Your videos give me so much inner silence...they calm me down after long days of work. The music, your voice and how you speak and seeing beautiful colors is the best combination ever.
Thank you so much for doing this. The colours are beautiful. I especially like the Rembrandt green. I totally looking forward to your next video. This series is terrific👍🏻😊!
I have just ordered misty morning but I think my favourite here is dusk green. It really looks like a jewel swatched like this. My own all time favourite is impossible to say, it changes all the time. Right now I'm in love with tundra violet, because it behaves in so many ways depending on the amount of water added. Glad you found out that cascade green needs more water. I have been thinking sometimes watching you swatch, that you swatch too dark and the colours can't show their best sides.
My favorite color right now is AGallo olive green deep. It separates the yellow is non granulating and it has ultramarine that granulates. It’s beautiful. My favorite in this collection is Misty Morning. Roman Szmal is my favorite brand and I couldn’t live without Misty Morning either.
Favourite watercolour?!? So difficult! If I had to choose one, it would have to be Daniel Smith bloodstone genuine. My favourite swatch you've done here had to be the dusk green, it's beautiful, and I also have it 😊💖🤗
I don't have a personal favorite watercolor. I think the Roman Szmal colors are incredible. I prefer cool colors, so the last 7 swatches were gorgeous.
If I go by most used, my favourite would be ultramarine blue. On its own and mixed with burnt sienna, delicious:D. I think my favourite runner up is the DS buff titanium, even though every single one of them is gorgeous Love these swatching sessions!
I think my favorite ever is Quinacridone Deep Gold it is so so gorgeous. Royal Talens Rembrandt Dusk Green is my favorite on that swatch sheet. Thanks for the tip on Cascade Green. I am only 6 months in to my journey but I am enjoying every image.
I really can't decide between Misty Morning and Dusk Green. They're both gorgeous in different ways, and both are from brands I haven't tried before; though I really want to, now! My favourite colour to use changes so much, though there are a few colours (Prussian Blue, Green Gold and Potter's Pink) that I regularly come back to, and like to "audition" in different formulations to compare brands. That said, I'm very into Winsor and Newton New Gamboge at the moment - not a colour I've used much before, but I'm grabbing it a lot lately. These are by no means exciting, but as I tend to use at least some Winsor and Newton Neutral Tint, any brand's Red Oxide and any Burnt Umber in everything, they are my most-used paints.
I’m really looking forward to seeing your next art haul video. I love all the colours you choose usually , so I’m sure I’ll find lots of tempting new colours. On this swatch I particularly like the cascade green and i adore the tree you painted with it! My personal favourite (at the moment anyway) is Terre Vert ( Winsor & newton) it’s a very soothing colour!
My absolute favorite that I cannot live without is DS Quinacridone gold / deep gold. It makes me so happy. In this video I can't decide between dusk green and mayan dark blue. They are all stunning.
@@jamesgrey4502 I'm doing well and you? It's so nice when someone comments! Everyone is so kind. This is such a sweet community of people. What kind of art do you do? I love all media, pastels, pen and ink, Watercolor, acrylic, coloured Pencils, etc...I love variety! I also have my own RUclips channel but my videos are different than Ms Newtons. I gear towards helping others through hard times, but I'm just beginning. Take care!
An absolute favourite, is Serpentine Green, a Primatek by Daniel Smith. It is warm, glowy, olive, yellow muted green and separates slightly with burnt orange flecks. On your sheet, Natasha, I love Misty Morning. Just a hint with Jane's grey; When working with Jane on a course in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney, we made a very light wash of Janes grey over one side of a stone building for the shadow, just a glaze over the building in Goethite. Goethite and buff titanium are great mixed to make sandstone rock buildings, and then the blue grey glaze made it really sing. It is liftable, as are the other three pigments. Misty Morning is also very nice washed with a real lot of water, for a sky that is overcast, about to rain. So glad to see WN Aqua Green included. It is one of my favorite colors, but I don't see it talked about often. I LOVE the Mayan Dark Blue, but wish it was more light fast. Such an amazing color.
One favorite? Can’t do it. I really love Winsor and Newton Indigo, and lavender is an excellent colour for mixing interesting greys. In looking at these swatches I’ve already added dusk green to my cart, and misty morning is literally on the way along with a number of other Roman Szmal colours, which I have yet to try. I notice how many granulating/separating colours are among your favorites. They are lovely. Trying to figure out how to make some of these combinations by mixing single pigments. It’s a lot of fun. Thanks for the videos. It’s great to be able to see these paints in action prior to investing.
I'm very new to painting and haven't yet bought too many watercolors! But, my favorite from this switching session is the Dusk Green. So beautiful! ❤️. I could buy them all and be happy!
One of my current favourites is Daniel Smith Cobalt Teal, and another favourite is also in this video, Roman Smal Misty Morning. Recently have tried 2 Mijello Mission Gold - Permanent Yellow and Manganese Blue and quite like them!!
Only just getting into lovely watercolours like this rather than basic flatter coloured ones so don't have a favorite yet apart from anything that granulates. Of these I love them all but if i had to pick it would be cascade green or dusk green depending on my mood at the time. Cascade green reminds me of patina and dusk green is just so dramatic.
Natasha I could not say on my favourite, as I have too many I cant do without. My favourite of all on this swatch is Morning Mist. So beautiful. Im just starting out again after years of not painting so I love your style of swatches. Its inspired me to do more. So many times I thought the paint was not good, but it was cheap paper and poor brushes. Thank you for the info on your brushes and paper you use, this is helpful.
For me, Sap green is my all time favorite color. I love most of the colors of nature, rocks and minerals but Sap green always grabs my attention on the canvas and in nature. I have to say, your pebble swatches are magical. Some of them look like actual photographs of beach pebbles!
Ooooh Natasha, the "Dusk Green" is delicious!! Daniel Smith Quinacridone Rose is my must-have colour, it's my "primary red". Daniel Smith "Red Aussie Gold" is my "I don't know where to use it but I need it in my life" colour. And though I'm drawn to purples and berry colours...I think Daniel Smith Phthalo Turquoise is possibly my all time favourite colour...with the Schmincke Horadam Haze colours coming in really close behind...oh and I've placed an order with KWARTS on Etsy which should arrive soon and I can't wait to try them out... Now I see why you struggled to narrow your choice down :D xx
I have the Royal Talens Rembrandt Granulating set of 12 and Dusk Green is my favorite in that set. Otherwise I have two favorites, Schmincke Ocean Grey and DaVinci’s Mother Violet ❤️
I loved both these videos, so lovely to hear your obvious love for these colours and your thoughtful insights into why you chose them and how you use them in your work. I love the pebble swatches, they really show the properties of the colours so well. I love the Betty Hayway brushes too, they are a staple for me too now. I love that you got the surpise of these colours becoming a possible new palette as well. My favourite colour of all time is Naples yellow, it's wonderful mixing colour and has a warmth of tone to it, but it can also cool down other colours and produces great mxes with greens. From these ten I have to say the Cascade green is a stunning colour, can so see why you love it now, The painting of the tree you painted shows this colour so beautifully. You really do have such a gift for choosing colours and creating palettes with them.As you talk about how you use these colours we can picture them in your work. Those little round ceramic palettes are also such a great addition I have several sets of these now,I love that they stack too. (matt)
Lavender. It is so use ful, although I have begun not to use it quite as much. I also love Sennelier Cereleun blue because it is impossible to mess up a sky if you use it. Of the ones you swatched - maybe cascade green. I have it and did not realize it was so granulating so look forward to using it more.. Oh, and while I don't have a lot of the Schmincke super granulating colors, of the set I have, I absolutely love Glacier green. A watercolor that paints itself. I want the roman szmal misty morning that you show above.
I stayed till the end, but I can't answer to the favourite watercolour question as I haven't intensively used them for a long time to pick absolute favourite, but I like shire yellow from these runner ups the best. :) I like all of these colours! (especially first row!) I think they are making lovely colour palette. You should try to do limited colour palette artwork using these runner ups. :) All the best to you Natasha!
How can I choose my favorite all time color among so many beautiful children!? Lol. I think your runner up palette is just as lovely as your favorites. Rembrandt dusk green is gorgeous!
I love your pebble swatches so much! Think my favourite there is the Mayan Dark Blue. So beautiful! My all time favourite watercolour is a handmade one by Julia Källen (Julia K Art Studio) and it's called 'Disa'. A gorgeous blue-green-grey that for some reason I absolutely love. I can't really even say why. I just love it. 🤷
There's no way I could pick my absolute favorite watercolor today. I still have so many to try and I need to paint with all the ones I already have WAY more! But my favorite out of what you swatched today would be the Rembrandt Dusk Green. So pretty!
Hello Natasha! I see that you're doing one of your favourite things--swatching! You keep us enthralled and hanging on every word! I always stay right to the end of your enjoyable videos, and I guess the single watercolour colour I could not live without is Violet Brown. I saw you swatch it last year and ever since then I can't get enough! I'm a red, orange, purple kind of girl and that makes up my palette. I love it when the sun is a burnt orange and red sky in the summer nights here where I live. I just can't get enough of those colours! Unfortunately I can no longer see firsthand the beauty of nature because I'm bedbound but I transitioned to it very well as getting out was never my favourite thing to do. So now I spend my time watching RUclips videos and studying art history on my own. I have a passion for art and poetry, as I write some myself. Well, I guess that's all for now. Be well and take care until next time we have a nice relaxing chat and swatch!
I completely agree with you on watercolors. No other art medium has captured my interest as much as watercolors have, which is strange as I'm a person who prefers rigidity, precision, and control in other aspects of life. In fact, I like them so much that I'm trying my hand at making my own.
Oh thats a toughy question! If i had to pick Potters pink by Schmincke or winsor and newton. I am always drawn to that colour. My favourites from your swatch in this video are: Forest green, Dusk green and Jayne's grey, when you had those three in together I was blown away. Simply beautiful colours ans another lovely video. Much love to you Mamma Newt
OMG Natasha! The video proper hasn’t even started and I had to press the Like button. What a fabulous idea for a video. I am making a list of all the stuff i am going to buy when I get back home (hopefully sometime next year)….Thank you for all the effort you put into your review videos. So Wonderful!
I particularly like the Royal Talents Rembrandt Dark Green and the Daniel Smith Cascade Green that you swatched out. They are stunning greens. I have a colour I mix often from various water colour sets and that is my version of Indigo Blue. I absolutely love this colour and equal to it is another colour, a red, I tend to mix myself that has the intensity of deepest lipstick red. I have yet to find the particular depth of these colours without mixing them myself.
I learned about Roman Smazl from one of your other videos and I just received my order including Shadow Violet. I'm excited to start playing with this color. Thank you for swatch videos, I really enjoy watching.
Try Winsor and Newton Opera Rose with your Aqua Green! I use Aqua Green as a blue in mass tone, then allow it to bleed into another area, and you get a fab phthalo blue that is almost pure blue, separating the blue and green pigments! I love them!
Can’t decide on one favourite but current most used is DS hematite and from this selection I also love buff titanium, which is surprising to me as I love bright colours but favourites are not always the colours you use most often. Would I love to try aqua green and misty morning looks like a blue chalcedony stone, so gorgeous. I remember the video where you swatched cascade green and called it a 90s raver😆
I am super intrigued by the DS Cascade Green. But it's very hard to choose--there are so many gorgeous colours in your top 25 AND 10 runners up! MANY that I will put on a list for future reference.
The Cascade Green is a gorgeous colour - I can't believe I judged it so harshly when I first used it! It's honestly one of my all-time favourites now, especially when used as a wash.
Natasha, my favourite watercolour of all time has to be misty morning by Roman Szmal, or the Indigo by Lukas that has really lovely separation of a red pigment that I love. Out of these, I really love the dusk green or the deep sea black!
Aqua Green and Buff Titanium are on my personal favourite list too 😍 I’m quite intrigued by the dusk colours at the moment so to see that stunning Dusk Green was perfect - they will go on my wish list. My own list of favourite colours is endless 😂 I usually like Indigo or Indanthrone Blue or Sap Green, but at the moment I would say my favourite is Chinese Orange by Sennelier. It’s a bit of a burnt orange, so beautiful for florals or sunsets… 🧡
Hi Natasha, made it to the end 🤗 my fav is cascade green, going to have to get that. My can’t be without is yellow ochre, bit boring 😴 but it goes in all my art work on its own or mixed
I love all of these. I think off the top I am attracted to the white yellow... mostly becoming have the haze set plus sea green and I would like a yellow granulating plus a rusty one. I absolutely adore all of these choices
I really love Sennelier Greenish Umber…you might like it as well, actually. Love your channel so much! Have been gobbling up your videos to cheer myself up since early 2021, so big thanks and blessings to you!
Ah, thanks Glory! That's lovely. Thank you so much for watching. :) And I LOVE the Greenish Umber - it was in my Top 25 Favourite Watercolours ever (the video before this one).
Aww, Natasha, so glad to see you swatching your runners up. You've really made those 10 colors shine. I'm sure they are no longer be sad that they didn't make the cut in the first place. ;o) My favourite colors from your runners up selection definitely is Misty Morning. I absolutely love the touch of blush shining through the ash blue base. To specify one most favorite watercolor of mine is hard though. I love color so much that I could never favour one over the other. They all serve a purpose, don't they? That being said, I recently bought Schmincke's new Vulcano Red and am totally blown away by the way it granulates, absolutely exceptional for a warm red color. Also, I love "Nelkenfarbe" (sorry, I don't know it's English name) by Kremer. It's made from the same pigment as Potter's Pink (PR 233) but it's non-granulating. A slightly powdery, muted Victorian pink, I'd say. I'm sure you would like it as well.
Ha ha, let's hope they're happy! ;) Misty Morning is very special, isn't it? I'm really impressed with the Roman Szmal colours in general! I keep hearing good things about Volcano Red (several subscribers have mentioned how much they like it recently) and the Kremer colour you've mentioned sounds beautiful! Just the type of pink I love.
It was a hard task compiling a list of my Top 25 watercolours, and there were many I would have liked to include. Several subscribers asked for this video, so here are my ten runners-up! Enjoy over 30 minutes of super calm swatching. 🌈 All details are in the description box underneath the video.

Oops! I like Dark Green which is surprising for me because I usually hate greens, but this one I love!
Take care!
My favourite from your swatches is the Rembrandt Dusk Green. My all time one favourite is Moonglow by Daniel Smith :)
@@jamesgrey4502 all good here thanks - I’m UK based
An absolute favourite, is Serpentine Green, a Primatek by Daniel Smith. It is warm, glowy, olive, yellow muted green and separates slightly with burnt orange flecks.
On your sheet, Natasha, I love Misty Morning.
Just a hint with Jane's grey;
When working with Jane on a course in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney, we made a very light wash of Janes grey over one side of a stone building for the shadow, just a glaze over the building in Goethite. Goethite and buff titanium are great mixed to make sandstone rock buildings, and then the blue grey glaze made it really sing. It is liftable, as are the other three pigments.
Misty Morning is also very nice washed with a real lot of water, for a sky that is overcast, about to rain.
In kindred spirit,

Great tips, thank you Eliza!
Thank you Natasha for another mesmerizing video! My favorite from this swatch is Royal Talens Dusk Green. The separation is amazing.
Thanks Connie!
I'm so glad that you've found the videos useful, thank you for watching! Paper makes a huge difference to how watercolours look and perform.
Can't live without Roman Szmal Paynes Grey 💕💕 The Rembrandt Dusk Green is my fav on this swatch sheet, so interestingly textured ❊
Ah the cascade green was one of the colours you sent me, it is a beautiful colour misty morning also looks really 😍 xx
I thought you'd enjoy it too, Mel! It's a colour that really grew on me. :) xx
For me, Sap green is my all time favorite color. I love most of the colors of nature, rocks and minerals but Sap green always grabs my attention on the canvas and in nature. I have to say, your pebble swatches are magical. Some of them look like actual photographs of beach pebbles!
Thank you! Sap Green is indeed a lovely colour. :)
Dusk green and misty morning gave me life 💗💗
I have the Royal Talens Rembrandt Granulating set of 12 and Dusk Green is my favorite in that set.
(matt)
That Dusk Green is my favourite here but the one I can't do without from my collection? Probably DS Green Apatite Genuine
No hesitation, Payne’s Grey! Love that Royal Talens Dusk Green 😍
Green is my favourite colour but Roman Szmal Misty morning would be #1. I love the separation of colours.
I'm in love with this runner-up palette!
My very most favorite color is indigo! In the palette: mayan dark blue ! You´re getting me tempted by Roman Smalz
🤔
My favorite colour at the moment is by the Stoneground Paint co. - Mayan Deep Green and my favorite from your selection is WN Aqua Green.
I completely agree with you on watercolors. No other art medium has captured my interest as much as watercolors have, which is strange as I'm a person who prefers rigidity, precision, and control in other aspects of life.
In fact, I like them so much that I'm trying my hand at making my own.
Roman Szmal Przysbysz Grey is my one favorite color! It is just absolutely stunning and very useful ❤️
Thank you so much, Kiz! I'm glad that you're enjoying the videos and finding them useful. :)
Mmmm, that Daniel Smith Mayan Blue Dark needs to be in my collection! 😁
Have fun with your new paints! I love RS paints - beautiful quality and interesting colours. :)
Omg now I have another color to add to my exploding cart 🙈 the Lukas Indigo sounds stunning!
love love love that aqua green 😀 hmm not sure about a colour i cant live without...hmmm i use a lot of basic indigo so prob that colour 😀
Sennelier Payne's grey!!! It was in my first ever watercolour set and swatching it really flipped a switch in me... So very special...
I haven't tried that version yet! :)
The stand out color for me of all your swathes is Dusk Green. It’s absolutely beautiful!! I don’t have a favorite color yet 😊
Hi Natasha, made it to the end 🤗 my fav is cascade green, going to have to get that. My can’t be without is yellow ochre, bit boring 😴 but it goes in all my art work on its own or mixed
Cascade Green is so beautiful and interesting!
I love all of these. I think off the top I am attracted to the white yellow... mostly becoming have the haze set plus sea green and I would like a yellow granulating plus a rusty one. I absolutely adore all of these choices
I’ve started swatching this way. I love it so much better. Feels so natural and intuitive. Thank you for this tip. :)
I'm so glad that you love it too!
Daniel Smith Rose of Ultramarine, closely followed by DS Cascade Green. I also love DS Imperial purple.
I can’t live without Schmincke Horadam Naples Yellow and Cobalt Turquoise🤗
I've literally just ordered SH Naples Yellow for a video I'm planning to make! (It was recommended by another viewer too).
@@NatashaNewtonArt You can’t go wrong with it. In my opinion it’s the most beautiful one out there. 💜
