- Taken from an undated reading of the show, likely 1986. The full show was read by an unidentified cast, while the entire score was played and sung by Sondheim. This was likely after the Playwrights Horizon workshop but before San Diego, as it is missing a great deal of the score that would be added later in act II.

The scrapped lyrics are fascinating.
"Into the woods, who knows what lies beyond the moss and butterflies."
And of course a pedigree/dead agree rhyme, in classic Sondheim fashion.
Hearing the bare bones fit together makes me feel like I'm witnessing a wizard cast spells ❤ I can feel Sondheim's deep connection to the characters he's created. The emotion flows
What a masterpiece of an introduction to a musical
I love the jolly, rollicking way he sings the "Into the Woods" themes.
Pure gold...thanks
