Was looking for a secure blind option for our exterior patio door which could hold up to pets and kids. Came across ODL and was very impressed with what I saw so we gave them a try and have been very pleased with the ease of install, finished look, and operation for these add-on blinds.

You're a mensch! Finding your video saved me the cost and headache of replacing perfectly good French doors for ones with the blind built in! That's easily $1,100 I don't have to spend now!
This video helped me big time before and during my install. I think I spent more time carefully popping out the screw covers to my existing door than the actual install. Thanks!!!
No doubt, those little plugs can be tricky. Glad the video helped! 👍
Thank you for helping me install my ODL add-on blinds
Super Helpful! I didn’t even use the directions that came with these blinds.
Excellent demonstration. Just installed it myself after watching how simple it is
Nice Joe, I think you will like the blinds.
I installed two, one on the door like you installed and also on the other french door window that does not open. Love them except for the one installed on the window that doesn't open developed mold inside. I think this was from the seal being opened. The one like your door shown in the video I also had a storm door that helped keep out moisture for that one and it did not develop the mold issue. I removed it and cleaned, then reinstalled and tightened the screws, and also replace the white rubber covers to also potentially help with moisture getting in, before installing the blinds again.
I did not know those kind of door amendments existed, thank you for showing me!
Happy to the help!
Just purchased 2 of these!! Thank's much!!
Thank you so much, I need this for my door as well!
Yeah, we have been super happy with the ODL Door Blinds. Solid product 👍
Thanks for this! We have the flappy blinds, as you mentioned, and I hate it. This was really helpful.
thanks for the video. This really helped because my frame was hard to loosen up.
As a single woman I greatly appreciate this video. I thought I would need to pay someone to install the glass, I did it myself in 20 mins. Saved me about $200
Great video! I'm installing it this evening!
Nice 👍 good way to finish off a long weekend!
Fine demonstration.
Thank you so much! That was so helpful!
Happy to help Mary!
Excellent, thanks
Thanks for the video - got 2 at Lowes for my French doors - your advice for the handle was great. Getting the "plugs" out - not so easy....
Hey Lori, glad the the video help. With a sharp razor blade and some patience you will be able to get the plugs out without much issue. Let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you for making this video! You inspired me to try this - and it worked great! Thank you!
Awesome, yeah I am still super happy with ours and it is holding up well 👍
@@EverydayHomeRepairs we have a similar system, and some of the mechanism seemed to give out, and is no longer pulling the shades to close. Any ideas?
Worth watching!!!
Thanks for the video!
No Prob Deno!
Thank you so much😁
Hope they work as well for you as they did for us.
Great instructional content
I picked up some of these on clearance, they are great
Nice! Where did you find them on clearance? I think ODL makes a great products and looking to get a couple for the side windows around our front door.
Home depot. Mine are for just the half door window. They were only about $25 each, huge score.
@@catejordan7244 that is a smoking deal. Nice work!
Thanks so much for your video ‼️
No Prob, happy to help 👍
Nice
Thanks
ok, you need to get out of my head! Came across your page and have now subscribed!! Almost every video relates to what I want/need to do.
Welcome
Ty this helped a lot.
Happy to help Damon!
Thank you 😊,,
You're welcome
I bought one of these from the local Lowe's on clearance for about $35. Mine was just the half-height 22x36 style, though.
Smoking price 🔥👍
Great explanation. Thank am curious why would you not remove the first glass that has the wooden glass divider inserts?? Bc did you out a glass mini blinds on top of an existing glass?? I am learning. Thank You .
For this ODL kit is is specifically made to fit over / around the current trim that holds in the center glass. The same company does make a number of different glass inserts for front and patio doors.
What if you have no frame
To attach to? My front door has this look but only half the panes. Not fool think. You made it look very e
Day. I’ll have to figure out what to do since there’s no border or frame to attach the glassed in blind. Great demonstration thank you so much.
Not sure if you know the answer to this question but my window already has them installed they’ve just completely broken inside I’m sure that there’s glass on both sides of your insert correct? I’m just wondering if it will work on replacing one that’s already there?
Thank you, please send info, description for Homedepot. Thanks
how is the fit by the door handle and lock --> this is my concern with my door
Handle is a little tight but I didn't think it was a big deal.
It covers part of the door hardware trim on both the lock and the handle. Not attractive.
Wrong measurements
So how did this affect the clearance with your door knob in reference to your hand around the knob opening the door? Do your knuckles scrape the frame of the blinds now since they add height to the door?
I actually have a door lever opposed to knob and it clears but you can't grab the entire lever as the gap between the add on blinds and door lever is too small. I think a door knob should have good (not perfect) clearance.
I have a lever and I wouldn't use this blind with one. Either switch to a knob style or find a different solution.
How do you keep the blinds from shifting out of the track when the door is opened and closing. Ours rattles the blinds out and have to take them down to fix them back in the track so they can function.
My mini blinds window glass has moisture got into. How to Re move them? I think the seals are broken due to the patio doors are west- facing to sun. Do I have to replace the whole window glass panes? If I have to, how to do it. Can you advise me. Thanks
Hi, is there a way to find and buy the top mounting brackets by themselves? I have searched and searched and saw this video, just figured I would ask and hope I could finally get this figured out. Thanks in advance.
Good question, I would just contact the customer support from ODL www.odl.com/ the little I have spoke to them the company is very responsive and should be able to help.
My window is the same size as yours 22x64 but my silver hooks do not line up with the slits on the door. What am I doing wrong??
Hey Kim, if you can jump over to facebook and look for a group called "Everyday Home Repairs Community," then you can post some pics/ask your question and it will make the troubleshooting your issue much easier. Thx!
I have a similar door and magnet doesn’t work the blinds up and down anymore. How do I fix it? Or do I need to replace the entire glass panel with blinds? Also how would I take this off to even check the magnet?
Installed mine today and my door handle is being block. Unable to lift it back up in its normal position. Do I just need to buy a handle that’s thick enough to go over the thick frame?
Hey Allison, jump over to our Facebook group and send me a few pics. Then Iy will be much easier to help troubleshoot. Just search for “Everyday Home Repairs Community”
I just wonder what should I do if I have some mold appeared between the glass and and the blinds just like yours? I live by myself and really have no help, would it be easy for me to remove this and then instal it back?
Yep, it is very easy to remove. There should be two small tabs one on each side of the blind about 1 foot from the bottom. Just swing those out and then you can lift the blind off the top bracket which is holding the weight. It isn't too heavy and I would think less than 20 lbs.
The new ODL add on frame covers part if the deadbolt. Is there a gap on that side where the ODL frame covers part of the deadbolt? Is that gap visible when you look from that side? Or can you cut the frame where it covers the deadbolt?
This is my concern as well
? Sense this is going over an existing window, wouldn't this get condensation/fog in between the 2 windows? One would think in colder or rainy weather this would be a problem! Also, to clean the inside glass one would need to remove the insert.
I can speak to my experience with having these installed for over a year now. I haven't had any issues with moisture building up. So far so good!
We have one of these in our rented townhouse, and we have had a problem with condensation between the panes. I came here looking for guidance to remove the blind unit to clean the inside glass. Also, during the coldest winter months, the condensation was so heavy it ran down both the inside and the outside of the door, causing the door to freeze shut overnight (- 20 degrees F).
@@kateyare4708 Thanks for the information; that was one of my concerns. Also, to clean it one would need to take it apart!! You answered my question, Thank you!
Was there a knock out on both sides for the dead bolt and door handle cause mine is on the opposite side?
Hey Eric, yeah there are lockouts on both sides so you are good. 👍
Thank you! I just got mine installed!
My door doesnt have the little tabs and screws on the frame holding the glass 😢
Would you put the bottom metal things above the 11 1/2 mark or below? Having some trouble
As long as the side locks dont hit shims.
@@erwinbrubacker7488 glad you answer's this, I was had the same question- wasn't sure if the side locks were supposed to be under the shim, above the shim, perfectly aligned...I just didn't know!
Is your deadbolt in the way?
Hey Bill, ODL actually designed a little knock out which can be removed if you have overlap with the deadbolt casing. So with that removed everything fits great.
Tried two sets of these now but clips will not click in at top even though they line up perfectly (one side did click in on second set). Shame, they did look nice.
Huh, so the metal tabs are misaligned to the slots in the plastic trim/molding of the blinds?
@@EverydayHomeRepairs Left to right they line up perfectly...the space between the tab and the door seems to be off. Not enough space between tab and door for tab to reach slot in blind frame.
Solved...put a shim behind the clip that would not go in and it snapped in perfect. Other door installed easily with no modifications.
@@rubinthedog621 nice, thanks for the follow up and glad you got it all to line up.👍
I am sure joping that I can remove my door window on my exterior Geld-Wen door as the glass has gotten dirty INSIDE surfaces!
Mine is 22x48, where can i get one?
Hey Seoj, Is your Window 22 inches by 48 inches or 22 inches by 38 inches. If it is 22X38 then this link will be the correct size homedepot.sjv.io/qdG1Y
It’s 22x48 really is
Hey Seoj, unfortunately that must be a non-standard size window and I couldn’t find a version of the ODL Door Blind which would fit that size window. 😕
Yeah maybe coz its our front door, but the porch sizes 22x36 that fits one, thanks anyway for my inquiry.
I sir I want the product .I'm in hyderabad.and i learning water I am duing
I just bought one of these second hand thinking all full lite doors are the same size. My window is 24inches
I’ve never seen that… bummer
An anyone help me do the reverse of this video - REMOVE blinds and end up with plain glass?
Hey Isabel, do you have "Add On" blinds like this or a different style/type?
where about a sliding door?
There's no way I'm going to pay over $100 for vinyl blinds just to avoid drilling holes on my steel door. I bought some simple Hampton Bay vinyl blinds for my front door, got them on sale for just $5.
Yeah, they are pricey but for our scenario I was willing to spend the money to keep kids and pets out of the blinds since the door has a full length window.
Heh 100% agree, I'm in the same situation minus having a steel door and the home came with an extra vinyl blind set. Its a half window too so screw that noise!
Could this video go any slower
In the settings on the video you can crank up the playback speed.
Im not impressed.
