Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou from Scotland , my e211 estate had this problem , after listening to all sorts of diagnostics and trying other things I found this video, was your description of the fault that grabbed me,, 30 to 40 mph under load,, exact same as mine ,, I changed the prop shaft that I acquired from a breaker yard and before I fitted it I replaced the centre carrier mount and bearing with original mer exes parts, and guess what , vibration has gone and she now drives like a new car, all done for approx £130 and a day under the car,, perfect ,, thanks again

Hey there, I know it's been a long time since you made this video but I would like to suggest that when replacing the clamps on the exhaust system that you 'angle' the actual bolts upwards and to the side (or at 45 degrees) so that when they are tight, the protruding thread can't catch on anything - which includes your head if you're under the car. (been there, done that, which is why I learned this lesson........)

I really appreciate this video because I am going thru the same problem on my 2012 w221 S350 Bluetech. I have already discover some contributors to the vibration and those were the Inter cooler hoses. They were ripped and were leaking air. When I replaced them the car changed and became extremely responsive and fast. Some of the vibration went away but I am still feeling vibration when going over hills and when loading the engine like slight acceleration. I am going to replace the center support bearing and the 2 rubber flex discs. I love the car and its efficiency on fuel consumption.

Very informative video, and great info on diagnosing drivetrain vibration, and how to tell the difference between torque converter and drivertrain vibrations.
It's given me the info on where to start as I have a Mercedes V Class (you don't get them in the states) with the M112 3.7 v6 engine and the 766.1 transmission. At speeds of 25 to 40mph I have a noticeable vibration, always at the same speed, the vehicle revs, nor vehicle gear doesn't make a difference the vibration is the same, if I knock it out of gear the vibration goes. It is worse when I first drive the vehicle.
But after watching this it sounds like it's probably a propshaft issue than a torque converter issue.

I have a buzzing due to the gear shifter vibrating against the drive position / slot at the centre consol. The R170 230 SLK has low mileage and the vibration has just appeared and is there when maintaining speed at 2K rpm not at deselleration. Hopefully it's just a cosmetic rattle and bang like all the other plastic interior creeks and squeeks following new tyres all round and a vario roof maintenance hopefully. If not to find the reason for such a buzz is a challenge. Your video is very helpful and will give me many pointers thank you.

    Got a new issue
I hit the 3,000 Rpm line and it jerks, it has full power tho
However, I get these codes: P2616 and P2195
Does this mean Crank Shaft sensors and camshaft sensors needs to be changed? or necessarily the O2 sensor? I doubt if the o2 sensor is causing the jerking after going past 3,000 rpm line
It still has full power - help, I'm brainstorming;/))

Hey MBdieselfreak! i love your vids, but i"m also having some issues with my E220 w211, i love it and im almost there is terms of suspension and overall ride quality. But there is still some issues, when driving over the road the car most of the time takes the bumps and road nicely, but sometimes its coming in the cabin so damn hard and its not even a big bump in the road.. , its like there is nothing to absord it? yet my MOT was perfect, Mb benz can't really find anything, lower controll arms, shocks are replaced ( only the shocks, not the springs), new tires ( good psi, not sport tires, just comfort) .
perhaps this could help identify it?
i feel stuff on my feet on the floorboard and near the pedal.
an Mot said my right side was a bitt hard but overall perfect MOT i ever saw.
Steeringwheel is starting to squiek en knock a little bit, perhaps that's just the tie rods or something.
I"m am replacing the sway bars and bushing assembly next week at the official benz dealership
The discomfort this brings me is just not fun :)
Any idea what this could be? or what i should be checking or replacing anyway on a 262.000Kilometers E class.
Also my engine is making a Huge tons of noise when accelerating full speed , didn't always make that noise, its like mettallic sound? i checked bolts and stuff but its all firm, my mounts do look bad but my dad said they replaced that a few years ago, so idk
Thank you for you're response if you can, would be amazing if you know what this could be or give me a clue :)
PS: you should do a video on high milage w211 on what to replace for sure at certain miles or age.

The front and rear sections of the driveshaft are factory balanced. 4:07 you can see there are balancing weights on the rear section of the shaft here. There should be more on the front section. If the front and rear sections are dismantled and reassembled on a different tooth of the spline the shaft will vibrate. It’s important to mark the two sections before separating them and reassemble as they came out of the factory to ensure correct balancing.

LOL I've done the very same on my BMW. 1.5 years. I have a half second shudder at take-off only. Happened once in second gear about 4 months ago, and that's it. All this after a transmission rebuild. I hate this problem. Happens every 3 days or so, sometimes twice in a day. Only at take-off, not higher speed. I think it happens under heavier load. Had guibo and centre support bearing replaced two weeks ago. Shudder has happened once since. Universals (?) were inspected and shown to be good. This video tells me it's my torque converter. Any idea what it could be? Coil pack is good, cables and plugs replaced. Sporadic shudder only on take-off.

Thank you for this but i'm confused! I have a year 2000 E55 AMG and it has a really horrible whacking/slapping/knock/rattle at certain load/rpm and it sounds like it's coming right from under the armrest where the secondary cats are, you can feel it rattling/knocking the tunnel of the car. But it seems to be more related to load/rpm rather than a specific speed i.e. if i am half throttle going from 2nd to 3rd gear it will make this horrid load slapping rattle, if i drive the car more gentle in this condition i can avoid it making the noise, flooring the car you'll hear it for a split second as it passes this threshold, half throttle it will osciallte/rattle for longer until it passes "through" the "zone" sorry if my explanation isn't making sense! I do not feel it in my feet more at the armrest... It does also vibrate the whole car at around 60mph but its more subtle and is felt through the whole car.... I really want to get it sorted out :(

Really once the oil cooler seal problem is fixed, and the swirl flap system is eliminated, the om642 is a pretty reliable engine in of itself. You may get an oxygen sensor or DPF pressure sensor fail, bit that's rare and not terribly costly to replace. The ML and GL platform are a bit more expensive to maintain in the long run than the E class, but they come with their own inherent advantages that weigh that out.

Those driveshafts are dynamically balanced while spinning and while completely assembled. If the two pieces were ever separated and not put back together at the *exact same spline* it will be out of balance. That is likely what aged-out the u-joint.

    • @gedionsamuel2256
      @gedionsamuel2256 3 года назад

That explains a lot for my case. I bought a w211 from a lean sale that was not starting and had been parked for a year. Found the problem to be a failed fuel pump, but a California E350 has a buried pump not serviceable so I had to painstakingly replace the entire tank. Doing so meant removing the exhaust and then of course the DRIVE shaft! So I guess in reassembly I must’ve NOT put it back together at the SAME spline! I have the very very slight vibration that I can’t figure out, and even thought maybe it was a clogged catalytic converter. QUESTION: how could I ever figure out where the proper point was? I would hate to do a trial and error.

So I just purchased a 1991 500sl. The owner said the wheel bearing was bad. I drove car a few miles and felt a heavy thumping vibration at about 30mph. I checked for bad bearing and no play at all in any wheels. I decided to put in air and checked drive shaft for play, flex disc's and didn't see anything I then took it about 2 miles to store and vibration was so bad I couldn't drive. It sounded like wheel was going to fall off but was coming from center of car. I kind of knew it had to be drive shaft. Felt like driveshaft was smacking middle of car next to my seat.

My goodness I have seen so much videos to diagnose the problem I'm having. I'm not sure if the noise that my car is having is from the drive shaft cause there is no vibration but yet a lot of noise. It sound like a bad bearing. The problem is that it is close to the transmission and I know for sure it's not from the transmission do to the fact that I've been driving my e350 2010 for over two years. When I first heard the noise I barely herd it, now it's rambling loud. Can you or someone tell me if it might be coming from the drive shaft.

You or your mechanic is going to have to find that out yourselves, I can't give you a definite answer without seeing for myself. Are you sure it's not a noisy wheel bearing? It is possible it could be a bad driveshaft center support bearing.

@@shendritugraj1307 I had that same problem, it was the bearings. Unbelievable that all this time it was something that simple to fix. You would have to get the transfercase and see what bearing is bad. Check out some videos about it, I found a few that pin point my problem. Now in your case, it could be the bearings but you would have to have it disassemble in order to know, in some cases the transfercase also makes noise. Good thing for me it was only the nearing that's in the transfercase. Look it up, there is some European auto shops disassembling one, you will get some info on the matter. Here is a video if you want to check on that. Keep in mind, the problem that this transfercase on the video was the gear, in my case it was the bearings that goes on that gear which is replaceable and you can get it on ebay or Amazon. No! But my god would I like to. It's a very specific humming/rattling noise at very low throttle and speed, only when the car is virtually coasting, right? I've driven several CDI's over the years, high and low milage, and they ALL do it.
I think it's some sort of combustion harmonic being set up by the engine that's amplified by the exhaust
