    At 13:30 we can see two different kind of bolts. One is a T60 and the other one on the flex disk is a TP60 but you still used a T60 tool on a TP bolt. I don't think it came from the factory like that?

    Doesn’t it make sense to replace the center bearing & support while doing all this given the age of the vehicle?

    Thanks for this. What a pain to have to drop the entire exhaust system just to change out the flex discs.

      I did mine (on a prefacelift C207 chassis) without touching the exhaust or heat shields. Although minimal, there is definitely some strain put on the center carrier bearing as he mentioned when prying.
      If done that way you must 1st remove trans end, then diff end, install new disc at diff, then install new disc at trans. Otherwise, there's no room to pry.
      I also had to remove the bracket that connects the trans mount to the trans itself. If you do that, be aware those 4 e torx bolts are aluminum 1 time use bolts.

    Thanks for the tutorial. I have vibration in the driveline of a recently acquired 2003 C32. I think I will replace the flex discs and center bearing, regardless - 204k miles. I am fortunate that my cousin has a farm shop with a lift. A couple of questions:
    When separating the drive shaft from the car, why not mark and separate the two halves at the spline? I would think that would make the shaft easier to handle.
    I wonder if ratchet straps might work instead of screw jacks (expensive) or at least to supplement the screw jacks as safeties for a one man crew. Tie off points will be the issue, but there may be some good places under the car. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  Год назад +3

      Hi there! Marking the driveshaft at the center to be sure it's properly balanced on reinstallation is definitely an option, and is often the preferred practice when you're doing the center support bearing at the same time!
      The ratchet strap idea is novel and can definitely work if done cautiously. The last thing you want to do is catch one of those driveshafts on the way down; they'll surprise you with their weight!
      Happy wrenching, and enjoy your W203!

    Hi, nice work!
    I see you use 20N.m for the bolts that go to the car frame from the transmission support (min 27:12). In the specifications I see Stage 1: 30N.m and Stage 2: 50N.m. Could you please comment? Thank you!

    Hi Mike. I would like to know if the green grease that you add in the video is the same one that is added to the wheel bearings, to avoid high temperatures due to friction. I want to perform the same maintenance that you do in the video. Thank you very much and greetings.

      It's the same it's made in Germany, but you can use any quality grease.

    Newbie question, did you put the shift in P or N while doing this. I tried jack up my car when I tried to turn the rear flex, it didnt move. The shift was in P.

    • @michaelb8957
      @michaelb8957 8 месяцев назад

      You need the trans in neutral and the back wheels off the ground, then it will spin freely.

  • @johnnyblue4799
    @johnnyblue4799 2 года назад

    I wonder why do you have to mark the drive shaft relative to the position of the transmission and the differential. They look quite symmetrical. I think they'd have some marks from the factory if the position mattered.

    • @RothBeyondTheGrave
      @RothBeyondTheGrave 2 года назад

      They are balanced from factory. Making marks just ensures it stays that way I believe. I have read people say that they didn't mark them & initial test drive was vibration free but who knows what may happen down the line, you know?
      I marked mine just to make sure reinstallation went smooth & to worry less haha.

    • @______926
      @______926 2 года назад +1

      I have worked on Mercedes-Benz vehicles for 10 years, never marked a drive shaft once and never had an issue. I have also never needed to replace a flex disc either though 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @johnnyblue4799
      @johnnyblue4799 2 года назад +1

      @@RothBeyondTheGrave I doubt that's an issue. For that to be true they'd have to balance not only the shaft but the whole assembly of transmission output and differential input. Only then their relative position would matter. The flex disks are also part of the assembly and would need to be balanced.

    • @MH-hk2cf
      @MH-hk2cf Год назад

      It might have to do with balancing

    He never inspected the center suport bearing lol prepare to do that job again here in 15 minute after test drive .never showed how to aline your drive shafts.what i stated is the most important info to share when doing a dyi or this video is going to twist some drive shafts off.😅😂😂😂 also for the center support bearing to remove it off the drive shaft because it is stuck use a bearing puller. Since i shared this info fcp euro where s my pay check.😂😂😂😅😅😅😅

    Hi, I have a problem with vibrations in my W212 car. The engine mounts and gearbox mounts were replaced but unfortunately that did not help. The vibrations mainly come from the bottom of the car. They are most noticeable in winter when the temperature drops below 0 degrees. You can't feel them while driving but when stationary you can feel them on P, a little more on D and worst on R. Do you think it could be the flex disc? For reference I am attaching a video with a bottle in the car to illustrate how intense the vibrations are.
