If you want to know the... why of things. This world, I've walked a good part of it... I stopped only because of you. What you did - gave me pause. Long ago, I crossed the Colorado, the first among the Legion to see Hoover Dam in all its glory... an Old World wall, yet bridging two sides. And beyond it, a symbol of a two-headed Bear, an idea great enough to challenge Caesar himself. Might kill him, taking it, whether he won or lost. The Bull needs to fight, needs the challenge, without it... it falters, dies in the dust. Might be a lesson there, in you and me. {"I'll"}Leave the thought behind the message to you. My message is this - the destruction that has been wrought, at the Divide - or elsewhere, if you couldn't stop me... It can happen again. It will keep happening. Whatever your symbol... ...carry it on your back, and wear it proudly when you stand at Hoover Dam. His last message to the courier, badass stuff...
Bethesda could never pull off this kind of shit. Fking cashgrabs went all in for mediocre gameplay upgrade and demolished the foundations of good storytelling in what I'm not hoping the Fallout series is gonna be for years to come.
@@buenvidanadz1969 Actually we might have a good chance of getting an awesome Fallout game. Microsoft already acquired Obsidian back in 2018, and since now Microsoft bought Bethesda, with the rights to the universe ofc, there is a slight chance that they give the series back to their original creators and we can move on from that boring canon-rape (FO3), sandbox-fps RPG wannabe (FO4) and multiplayer cashgrab (F76) shenanigans and finally start playing Fallout again as it should be. 🙂

EliteRanger_ Why don't we speak about Dead Money? I LOVED Dead Money. And it did connect into the main game. I've heard many different opinions on why people don't like it, but most seem to dislike it for either the atmosphere and the fact it felt more like a horror game, some didn't like it because of the radios and all the things that made you constantly stand on your toes etc. But I don't see why the DLC being challenging and different in gameplay should make anyone forget about or overlook the amazing story and characters the DLC brought to the table. And I just LOVE the ghost people. I'd really like to hear your reason for why you don't talk about Dead Money? I may be poking a hornets nest, but my curiosity exceeds the limit where I care.
Samuel .Lescelius It was mostly a joke actually haha. First off, I loved the story of it and even the atmosphere and characters. The gameplay, however was horrendous imo. I never liked melee weapons and that was the only thing that worked okay on the enemies. Speaking of enemies they were such a pain to kill. Also the cloud things were a bit of a pain. Also the fact that you couldn't leave and take a break (while it made sense story-wise) drove me mad. But, I have played worse, just don't ask me to play it again. I got the story, Im done haha.
Anyone else noticed how the Narrator mentions himself when talking about the people who have been to the Divide? A foolhardy storyteller in rusty power armor. I hope Bethesda doesn't sweep New Vegas' plotlines under the carpet for Fallout 4. Too many good stories were introduced and fleshed out.
That was one of the best features of NV's DLCs; realising that they each foreshadowed the Courier's encounter with his nemesis (or foil) and built up this clash between the two

Maybe because they don't HAVE time due to deadlines and 900% corporate constraints. The problem with them is that they are highly creative and fun people, with thousands of ideas, but that always falls short on deadlines. New Vegas for example: it was made in 18 months and they were forced to develop a game on an engine they had no clue how it works. Still, they managed to flesh out a brand new faction (Legion), along many more (PowderGangers/Boomers etc) and sneak in all these stories, characters and details into the game that ooozes with Fallout atmosphere. And ofc, with given the time constraints, a hell of lot of bugs and cut content... In talking about the war of the Legion (bull) vs. the NCR (Bear), there was an old practice that was particularly out here in California, in which they pitted spanish bulls versus bears. The funny thing is that the bull almost always won, and these fights later game the bull-bear terminology having to do with stocks, or something like that, where Bull is counting on a monetary increase, while Bear is counting on a monetary decrease. All of this leads to the suggestion that the legion is actually more likely to win, and I would support that notion. Notice first what's mentioned here- a supply road that the NCR desperately needed was utterly destroyed. The Legion was poised to claim the Great Khans, and to assassinate the NCR's president, all which comes with no resistance if the courier doesn't specifically help the NCR. The legion's close proximity to the dam, their ample resources and troops, all lead to counter the NCR's thin reinforcements, and countless amount of cases of suffering espionage. Even considering the power of their guns, the legion has more powerful melee weapons readily available, and their ranged weapons are suitable against the NCR, despite the lack of power armor. The only issues for the Legion is that, without the courier, Caesar would die of a brain tumor, leaving the Legate to rule, and though the Legion would win in the short run, as many characters point out, without Caesar's leadership, the Legion would fall shortly.
Fawkes is the most intentionally badass, Veronica for being the most naive badass like hey please I want to shoot some people Veronica act like the sack of potatoes you look like occasionally so I can use my new gun
I've been looking forward to this episode! Ulysses is far and away one of the most fascinating, mysterious and well-written characters I've ever met in a game. I love how he's only subtly foreshadowed the main game and the first three DLCs before everything finally comes together in the end when the Courier walks the Lonesome Road. I do think his potential was slightly underutilized, but Obsidian still did a great job with his character and story arc. Great episode, guys!
The whole lonesome road dlc felt like apocalypse now except In game version . It plays out similarly too you find audio tapes of Ulysses philosophies amd the deeper you get in the divide the more war torn and crazy it gets and eventually when you get to the end you kill Ulysses just as Willard does with kurtz also the ex soldiers you come across dont claim there affiliation no more and have lost there minds just like the last group of people sent out to terminate kurtz . 10 out of 10 dlc voice acting was phenomenal
One of the big mistakes Bethesda/Zenimax did was limiting Obsidians development time for Fallout New Vegas. They had a lot more plans for developing the Legion as a faction, and that included Ulysses as a legion sympathetic companion. Unfortunately Obsidian only had I believe 12-18 months to develop NV and the legion had a lot of content cut because of it. The DLC story arc was awesome though I didn't mind paying for any of the DLC because it told such a great interconnected story and included a lot of nice environments, and some great loot.
petargrad Actually, if you pass all the speech checks possible, it's shown that he takes the name from Ulysses, the Latin Odysseus rename, Ulysses S. Grant, and of course, Ulysses & Achilles from the Trojan War. That's why he's so into symbolism.
All fallouts have their strengths and weaknesses; 1, 2, and new vegas had great stories and fun events, but because of limited development time they did not meet their full potentials, leading to them becoming riddled with bugs and a lack of content between areas, as well as late game content. But, these games were saved by MODS, and the good stories they held made their community mod even more through dedication. 3 and 4 had a vast amount of content placed well so that the player would not be confused or under appreciate the game as "bad" compared to other $60 games we see today, with graphics and lore adding onto what once was. But the games would never reach the impact that 1, 2 and NV made on me. It was all either cliche, or simply anticlimactic in the end. The main stories had less meaning to them, as your choices become worthless ESPECIALLY in fallout 4. Fallout 4, is by far the worst Fallout game, but one of the best fun games out there, bringing fresh air in a very casual genre, but that is its downfall, trying to be something its not, another basic shooter. I wonder, if the developers of 1, 2, and NV had Bethesda's strengths, would they do better than Bethesda? What if they had their strengths when they started out? Would they eventually convert to Bethesda's casual methods? Either way, I hope that we have our own "Ulysses" to bring together Obsidian and Bethesda to create the fallout game the world deserves.
Official Ziminum I think either way, the people of the wasteland don't know much of the ancient history. The narrator of these speaks as if he's from the era the episode is taking place in, so I think the mix-up of saying he's from Roman times then talking about Ulysses S. Grant is intentional.
***** I did pay attention. The guy is basically another courier but he also had history with the legion. He basically blames that the hellhole you're in was caused by you when all you did was delivered a package before NV. He rattles about symbols and and flags and such. Because he saw that one man could cause such an event he decides he will make a change himself and tries to launch the nukes. I basically listened to most of his dialog and all I got out of it was that he was a pretentious sob blaming you for everything.
Uhh... Ulysses saw the name of the Courier, and he verified it if it was genuine, since he thought that the Courier died in the blast at the Divide. When the Mojave Express guy said it was genuine, he decided to let the package go to the Courier. (source: fallout wikia)
For years I’ve been watching this series, and I still do while I play fallout. I’ll be running around Appalachia or the capital wasteland and just think how expanded the world is and what’s happening across the states while I’m running around. My character being completely oblivious to it all.
Very excellent story on Ulysses and the Divide! That place was really awesome to behold. Makes me wonder what it may have looked like in the Pre-war, considering the subterranean base that was subjected to tremors all the time according to some of the logs left behind.
Bethesda really needs to make a fallout MMO. plenty of factions too choose from The NCR, The Enclave, The Brotherhood of Steel, the Legion, the great khans, the institute, the Minutemen. even different classes or races Humans, Mutants, Ghouls, synths
wilhelmrk It will not fit the setting as it is. We're talking about the Wasteland here, the setting. It's not a bustling place filled with a million other "Chosen Ones".
Because it was a thriving community growing large via good relations instead of power hunger like the NCR and Legion. It's location attracted a lot of trade too, so it had a good chance of becoming a major power but got blown up before this happened.
Of the many men to find resoectable in the Mojave, Ulysses was one of them: a firm believer in justice and honor, a warrior who possessed true strength; even when taken by vengeance. Every time I played New Vegas, not once would I desire to kill him. I always sought to have my courier, a man named Bishop, make amends. Though, anyone else kinda pissed that you couldn't wear his duster AND the Mk 2 Stealth suit lol. Like, give me both, let me complete my Sci-Fi Desperado look with my favorite Antagonist's awesome duster and my best companion next to my cyber dog. Daniel's cool hat can only do so much alone lol
If they did, then they would fix everything. Mr. House's genius and securitron army paired with Ulysses' loyalty and lust for a new-old world would be the ultimate faction. The NCR is corrupt in the government, Legion is dead end if the slaves rebel, Brotherhoodis selfish, and Enclave is pretty much gone. House and Ulysses are the only ones who care enough about a good society for all.
The way Ulysses blames you for the destruction of that place but no sane person would blame the courier for delivering a package. It is his job after all and he couldn't have known what the package contained and what it was capable of. Yet he blames the courier like he/she did it on purpose despite the fact that Ulysses is obviously sane and smart enough to figure this out
tefras14 Towards the end he does admit that yes, it was an accident, but he learned from The Courier that even a single man can affect history, whether the choices are big or small. Then again no story is perfect, but I won't say it's full of plot holes.
Ulysses was such a badass and truly seemed insane after his journey's. He seemed to be unusually intelligent, but blinded by his apparent loyalty, which ultimately led to his demise in my play-through; however, I agreed with him none-the-less that the symbols of the new empires should burn, so the nukes were launched at both the NCR and the Legion strongholds.
Lonesome Road was a good DLC, but the ghouls of the Great Divide make no sense. They have perfectly good places to hide from the skin tearing sand storms, and should have been able to recover, at least somewhat, due to all the medical equipment, shelter and water sources scattered around.
they had to come out to get food because the sand storms are going on most of the time so they would have ben exposed and they did recover its just that their minds didn't
It spoils the mystery of the "other courier," and The Lonesome Road DLC (to an extent.) I'd suggest playing through all the game (and its DLC) before watching these. Discovery is always better firsthand.

I feel bad for Ulysses. As the Courier, your entire (non-Legion) playthrough is undoing everything that he did.
Ulysses = the most badass person in the wasteland ever.
+Brock Wong and dat buttery voice too, make my face melt
+Brock Wong Very true. The son of a bitch's SPECIAL stats are 10 everything.
I think The Courier is more badass
Joshua Graham, or Frank Horrigan
Fawkes is the most intentionally badass, Veronica for being the most naive badass like hey please I want to shoot some people Veronica act like the sack of potatoes you look like occasionally so I can use my new gun
Please.. dont stop doing this until you have/given us all the lore of the Elder Scrolls/Fallout univers!
Not to self: Never get a Deathclaw high on Jet.
Probably my favorite character in fallout. Good episode.
Where two Couriers fought under a broken sky and an old world flag each carrying a message for the other
One of the big mistakes Bethesda/Zenimax did was limiting Obsidians development time for Fallout New Vegas.
I took it to naming my character Achilles, because they fought together in the Roman times
petargrad Actually, if you pass all the speech checks possible, it's shown that he takes the name from Ulysses, the Latin Odysseus rename, Ulysses S. Grant, and of course, Ulysses & Achilles from the Trojan War. That's why he's so into symbolism.
ShroddyCast you do a phenomenal job making the fallout lore I really enjoy watching them you should do something on president Eden of the Enclave
Ulysses is a Greek name gone Latin. the original name was Odysseus, an ancient Greek king.
All fallouts have their strengths and weaknesses;
1, 2, and new vegas had great stories and fun events, but because of limited development time they did not meet their full potentials, leading to them becoming riddled with bugs and a lack of content between areas, as well as late game content.
I prefer fallout 4 than 3
Idk man, fo2 is pretty perfect
I use to be a big fan of the fallout series, i've spent countless hours in the wasteland! You guys are great with lore! Thanks! Talk about nostalgia.
I love this series :D This guys voice is awesome :D
Great job again ShoddyCast, I really liked this episode.
This story, even though fiction, is fantastic! I would read a book just about Ulysses (I usually don't read that much though)
***** I thought it was James Joyce's Ulysses
Well, I can't figure out what this guy is saying, and I never could follow James Joyce's writings, so...
Randy Williams According to the Fallout wiki "behind the scenes" apparently the book about the Ulysses who united two flags was Ulysses S. Grant. huh.
Three years later and this is still a great series!
Ulysses is greek! not roman!
Marvin This guy knows whats going on...
Marvin Odysseus is Greek, and the Roman (in latin) name for Odysseus is Ulysses.
Official Ziminum I think either way, the people of the wasteland don't know much of the ancient history. The narrator of these speaks as if he's from the era the episode is taking place in, so I think the mix-up of saying he's from Roman times then talking about Ulysses S. Grant is intentional.
Official Ziminum oooh marvin you got schooled son
Marvin didn't u get shot in the face?
0:26 The Divide erupted in fire as the flame trail of the two Couriers' last message arced into the sky
I didn't understand a thing after finishing this DLC last night.
+Fun haus The guy talks way too much in the dlc
***** I did pay attention. The guy is basically another courier but he also had history with the legion. He basically blames that the hellhole you're in was caused by you when all you did was delivered a package before NV. He rattles about symbols and and flags and such. Because he saw that one man could cause such an event he decides he will make a change himself and tries to launch the nukes. I basically listened to most of his dialog and all I got out of it was that he was a pretentious sob blaming you for everything.
kosmos I had to get all that from a ShoddyCast episode of Fallout.
+kosmos so he's half the internet
By your logic if a mailman delivered a bomb and it went off. Then he is to blame for it and not the person that sent it.
"Divide is still out there. It breaths, it lives, it kills. But it never die. "
this playlist should air on The History Channel lol or Discovery Channel late at night like Toonami or Adult Swim
Pervi Senpai yes
Great video! always makes me feel great! Thank you so much!
I hope to see one on The Pitt.
ulyesses is truly one of my favorite characters in any videogame yet, such a masterpiece of a character
Who would win in a fight between Joshua Graham and Ulysses?
Where did you find your profile picture and Joshua would
Google, are you asking what I searched in google to find the picture?
I'd say Ulysses. He's better armed, has better protection/armour, he has the highest base skills in the game I believe.
Joshua Graham hands down. The man is a god of war
Joshua, he is not as well armed but he is literally unstoppable. Try killing him it never goes well.
Uhh... Ulysses saw the name of the Courier, and he verified it if it was genuine, since he thought that the Courier died in the blast at the Divide. When the Mojave Express guy said it was genuine, he decided to let the package go to the Courier.

This just made my weekend :)
omg these old animations are so adorable
who is the "foolhardy story teller in rusty power armor"?
Yeah i'm wondering too.
The narrator.
The old elder in the brotherhood in dead money
***** possibly Elijah?
jawa4498 yeah elijah
All thanks to the awesome people at Shodycast I got back into fallout and beet new Vegas, thank you Shodycast!
I’m watching during the apocalypse-2020
ah, good times
“Bear bull” -Ulysses
For years I’ve been watching this series, and I still do while I play fallout. I’ll be running around Appalachia or the capital wasteland and just think how expanded the world is and what’s happening across the states while I’m running around. My character being completely oblivious to it all.
Fuck 76. Garbage ass game
@simon lmao. Whatever you say, Sport.
@@AdamRoss1 yeah what a shit game
I always wait your lore series guys, especially the fallout ones, good job really!
All the Legion Characters are really bad ass. The only badass in the NCR is Boone.
An excellent video. Im going to grab all the Fallout NV dlc's after watching this. Thanks for putting this up!
Bin waiting all day
What makes FoNV DLC's better is that they are connected to each other
Silly thing I found,The courier shouldn't have a pip-boy since it was given to him by doc Mitchel after he was shot.
Ulysses is the best character in the entire game. Loved every thing about him.
Seriously, how the fuck can you hate on these videos by disliking!
I look at it this way. They show they like it by disliking it! LOL some people are confused like that.
Loving the Storyteller mod for Fallout New Vegas Shoddycast :D
I love Joshua I cant wait for the next ep.
Or a multistate, multiplayer (optional), gigantic story mode to rock all of Fallout America.
+Noah Golden the only down side to a fallout mmo is no VATS
+Noah Golden No, no. We all know what happened to Elder Scrolls. Just leave Fallout as it is.
+Chara It could be similiar to The Division only with better character design etc.
wilhelmrk It will not fit the setting as it is. We're talking about the Wasteland here, the setting. It's not a bustling place filled with a million other "Chosen Ones".
Listening to this is like basically listening to an essay. It's excellent.
I hated Ulysses and his voice! Listening to him drone was like sitting in lecture halls all over again!
Guessing you don't like Morgan Freeman...
Lol. Looking around the world now I'd say it's about time for the bombs to drop
Why did Ulysses think that Hopeville was greater than the Legion or NCR?
Too bad Ulysses didn't meet Mr. house.
+BobtheHobo324 Too bad Ulysses doesn't like House.
What really gets me is the relatively short time span this all takes place in.
Its a crying shame that this DLC had so many plot holes
+tefras14
like what?
The way Ulysses blames you for the destruction of that place but no sane person would blame the courier for delivering a package. It is his job after all and he couldn't have known what the package contained and what it was capable of. Yet he blames the courier like he/she did it on purpose despite the fact that Ulysses is obviously sane and smart enough to figure this out
tefras14 Towards the end he does admit that yes, it was an accident, but he learned from The Courier that even a single man can affect history, whether the choices are big or small.
Then again no story is perfect, but I won't say it's full of plot holes.
Yeah i may have been exaggerating a bit when i said it was full of plot holes i admit that. But the story feels a bit unrefined to me
tefras14 my favorite is still Dead Money.
Joshua Graham and Ulysses two of my favorite characters in the whole series. Lonesome Road and Honest Hearts were my favorite dlc too.
Ulysses was such a badass and truly seemed insane after his journey's. He seemed to be unusually intelligent, but blinded by his apparent loyalty, which ultimately led to his demise in my play-through; however, I agreed with him none-the-less that the symbols of the new empires should burn, so the nukes were launched at both the NCR and the Legion strongholds.
omg i love this series, makes me wanna start again playing the game
I wonder if the two headed bear will make an appearance in Fallout 4
I hope they will be my favorite faction is the NCR
Mihailo Vasic fuck ncr
Henry Trevalos you what m8 do you want a fight m8
the NCR are weak, corrupt and a disease.
Henry Trevalos the legion are without freedom, merciless and at least the ncr care about there citizens more then the legion
You know, I wish I can explore more of the divide.
6 years old. Huh.
oh my god it’s really been 6 years
Who would've thought post-apocalyptic mail men could be such badasses?
Lonesome Road was a good DLC, but the ghouls of the Great Divide make no sense. They have perfectly good places to hide from the skin tearing sand storms, and should have been able to recover, at least somewhat, due to all the medical equipment, shelter and water sources scattered around.
they had to come out to get food because the sand storms are going on most of the time so they would have ben exposed and they did recover its just that their minds didn't
Lonesome road gives me a dark souls vibe. Two godlike men facing off at the end of the world.
Are there spoilers in this video?
Spoilers to a video game?
risker34 why couldn't there be spoilers to a video game?
its dlc, so it really would not matter
sort of spoils lonesome road, but that dlc came out a long time ago
It spoils the mystery of the "other courier," and The Lonesome Road DLC (to an extent.) I'd suggest playing through all the game (and its DLC) before watching these. Discovery is always better firsthand.
This is great. Keep up the good work.
LIBERTY F##&*ING PRIME!!!!
DESTROY THE RED MENACE
America will never fall to communist invasion!!! (that's actually my ring tone) XD
DEMOCRACY IS NON-NEGOTIABLE
I love this video series THANK YOU!
tis is like story time :)
Fallout 4 best be revealed at the end of this series or I will be mega pissed xD
lonesome road is an amazing dlc
Ulysess is an enigmatic and interesting character!
Hey Could you do Desert Rangers Possibly?
Theres not much about them in the fallout universe other than Tycho from fallout 1, not enough to make a whole episode about it
sergio delagracia True, true, I do hope in Fallout 4 they bring account to them. There is just an immense amount of untapped potential.
This should be done as a podcast
