    I was taught when installing benchtops to only ever screw them down from underneath. That way, when you decide to change them, you can unscrew them and lift them out easily. If you screw down from on top and then put your finish coat on top of your screwheads, you're kind of screwed later.

    Fascinating! Who would've thought you could get such a beautiful marble-like effect with epoxy poured in-place? It was very thoughtful of you to document your process so thoroughly, too, answering potential questions as you went along. The only thing I found a bit dubious was the frame effect over the range. (Framing some countertop? I agree, there's a certain artistic element to the work-but is it really necessary to shout "Hey, this is art!" like that? LOL) These are just matters of taste, though. Everything else looks top-class IMHO. Thanks!

    As a tile installation professional, I can find only one critique and that is that there should have been box extensions and covers over the stone backsplash for a cleaner look. The rough texture could be overcome or router the plates into the surface. It would allow a smaller opening to be cut and more material so breaking the pieces when cutting is not as likely. It also would allow for easier access to the plates in the future.

    I noticed when using silicone on the sink, there was a pulling motion instead of a pushing motion. I have heard it is better to push the silicone bead forward to help get better penetration and to help prevent it from shrinking back.

      @@joerichmar6041 While your statement is somewhat true, pulling the silicone bead will drag the bulk of the bead horizontally along the seam and not allow as much penetration into the crack. Pushing the silicone bead forward while using the caulk gun will allow deeper penetration into the seam. While it may be a little messier to apply, it is easily wiped clean.

    Would love to see a high sheen or clear topcoat. I also use resin over my artwork to add a glass like finish. Sometimes, despite my best efforts a hair drops in that I don’t catch till dry. Would be great to be able to sand and do some touch up rather than having to do a second flood coat.

      @@StoneCoatCountertops So, I thought I would LOVE the UTC Natural. But I found it too matte. (But woah, dang, that top coat is tough as nails! Epoxy is not an option without a protective coat IMO.) But lookie here!! You guys have got a gloss coat. I really like the gloss UTC. I think the sheen is more like a polished natural stone. But of course, the chemistry causes much more texture. Other companies that use a similar product have the exact same problem. If you guys could somehow solve the texture issue (I know it ain't easy) but you really would have the most unique product on the market. The forums are all chit chatty on how to reduce the texture, which percentage of water to use, how many dry rollers to use. So, the problem clearly isn't quite solved. I hope you guys continue to push the product chemistry to help solve the problem. You all are folks for the job! Keep pushing it so epoxy can get better and better at substituting for stone. Thanks for what you do!

      Fantastic! You guys are so professional, your work is art and perfection. I love the molded rock look on the back wall, that was ingenious. I also love the use of the cooktop cutout on the back wall. Framing the cutout piece was also a cool idea, though I think personally I wouldn’t have framed it. My only criticism is not really a criticism, but a personal taste. I would’ve made the back wall a lighter color, but to still match the countertops lighter areas. Wow! An awesome job and the customer is very happy. Good job!

    I absolutely love that rock backsplash. Im gonna have to go back and watch that part of the video where you made those molds
    Ive looked for them online after seeing a video on Russian molds. They had powdered pigments you could use innthe mold prior to pouring the cement and it was crazy realistic when done
    They were using them for the lower part of the house walls. I really really really want that look on my house but cant swing the $24,000 to do it. Pouring my own pieces is the only way i could pull that off.
    Id love a link if you have a product video showing how to use whatever product made those backsplash molds.

    Question- since you were building the counters in place would it not have been easier to staple the plastic to the top of cabinet frames before installing the plywood tops? this way you save time and taping. Just cut it loose after you're done with expoxy.

    • @kylemilford8758
      @kylemilford8758 2 года назад
