Great video. Not sure if anyone has said it before, but just a suggestion. Fill all knots and cracks with epoxy resin til flush with the top first (may take 3/4 times to fill them), to eliminate bubbles, then your top coats. Will save you time and money, as you're not going to use as much top coat finish
I saw another epoxy pro work with wood…he painted the wood with a thin layer of epoxy before laying it and pouring. He explained doing so stopped the wood from releasing bubbles or soaking up the epoxy…just fyi. Piece looks great. I’m totally inspired.
Now I know why it’s so expensive to buy one of these tables. WOW, so much time and materials go into making one. Thank you for this video of information. 👍🏻
I have watched dozens upon dozens of these videos and nobody explains step by step s as good s as you, i really like most of your suggestions , learned allot, now to apply what i learned from your video to what i learned from others and some tricks i figured out my self and hopefully i will get it down, i found out real fast that unfortunate unfixable mistakes With epoxy can put big holes in you pocket 😂😢
@@ryefry Mike has moved on to explore different business ideas. He's got a passion for photography, so he's done some pretty sick under water shots with sharks and other marine life. He's a body that won't stay still, and he's good at anything he touches.
Lot of negative comments but have any of you negative Nellys ever done any of this kind of DIY or job before? He got the bubbles, and ripples out and sanded off the drips under the edge, it took extra clear coats but it still looked good! But wouldn’t it have been better to have put in those bars before you poured? I did my own countertop and I used alcohol to get out the bubbles.
In which case you have clearly never watched Blacktail Studio..Cam goes through every little detail meticulously, and places great emphasis on what will happen if you skip any steps. Nothing leaves his workshop unless he is satisfied that it is as perfect as possible. He even does master classes you can attend for first hand experience. This guy screwed this project up big time by not sealing the wood before pouring..the product isn't that great either, the top coat mixed up far too thick for this type of project, epoxy should always self-level.
What a beautiful product. I just hope no one looks underneath the table 😂😂 otherwise, the top was very well done and it’s a super informative video. Well done!
Words really can’t explain how Stunning this table is ❤❤ !! I now understand why river table are so expensive. Thank you for the videos on how to make a river table & other projects
Shhhhhh don’t tell no one, how do you think they will sell you more epoxy? Put it on… sand it down. Put it on….. sand it down. Put it on….. sand it down 😅 you pay for each time 😂
Thank you so much for the explanation and information. About 5 minutes in, unrequested, I subscribed. I can't wait to watch more from your channel. (P.S. loved the table)
With my many years in the sewer and drain business, I might suggest using the wax from a Johnny ring by taking a little scoop out with your finger to stop a slight leak in the epoxy. I'd be curious to know how worked for you.
Stunning work. You’re a true artist. I just have one question… why did you insert the rods that way instead of using longer loads and inserting them the long way. I’m thinking if the table is going to bend, it would bend in the middle? Maybe I’m wrong but it’s just an observation. Thank you!
Great work! It's funny, I've been watching your stuff for a while now, and I just learned you're located where I grew up, Grants Pass Or 😅! That's awesome, keep it up the good work!
Gorgeous massive piece!! 💙 No shipping added to the cost of that table!! 💵 How does it compare to the granite countertops you used to install? Got a good chuckle out of sawsquatch!! 🤣 So fun to work on a piece of art!! 🤗
Pro tip. seal your knots and cracks before you do seal coats. Saves you a ton of time. Just keep pouring epoxy, or CA glue if small enough, into the hole each day until it fills. If you catch pin holes in your clear seal coats, like at 40:34 , use clear CA glue to seal it and you wont have to deal with any more potential for air.
does stone coat countertops have wood grain epoxy or something along those lines? I can't believe epoxy can make realistic stone the way it does. I would love to see some kind of rosewood or exotic wood recreated with epoxy if that's even possible
Shoulda went with a monocoat type wood finish so you can actually feel that beautiful walnut! That sensation of touch is a vital one. We don't always want to feel that plastic coating over wood. Some would argue it's such a travesty... I think I have to agree. LOL
What is the difference between table top epoxy and super cast you are getting ready to pour at this time? This is a very large job I think it will be beautiful
When you tip the bottle of epoxy upside down to pour it in the bucket, you should pierce the bottom of the epoxy bottle, for a smoother flow from the bottle, no glugging air as the bottle is not trying to suck air and flow epoxy from the same hole, also you get less bubbles.
Great video and information. Got a question - after the final flood coat on the top it shows drips left over on the bottom edge. You don't show how you got rid of them. I assume you sanded but did you have to recoat the bottom again? Thanks for the great info.
Bonsoir énormément de travail cette table est super belle c'est dommage en France il n en font pas mais sa doit être très chère je pourrais jamais en acheter je souhaite bon courage a cette homme c est très très beau
that top looks great I was a general contractor for 50 years retired now i want to ask you if this epoxy is good for outside in tjhe norht east where it gets freezing in the winter i want to put an epoxy blue small pond it the garden and a boy fisjijg at the pond What do you think would it be ok in the outside
Beautiful Table!! Only one problem. The metal inserts may cause table to crack if not allow for seasonal changes. Dont you think c-chanel with threaded inserts will work better?
The c-channel and inserts are a excellent way to stabilize the tables. We haven't run into that issue with the steel bars on thick large tables. Great call out! Thanks for watching
@@StoneCoatCountertops only just A few months but I have been watching all of the videos. Love me some binge watching Stone coat ,can’t wait to start playing with my first order I know I’ll be getting some more.
I have a soapstone clamshell-shaped bathroom sink I've been tempted to refinish. It has some significant scratch marks in it and I'm wondering if it would be feasible to refinish or if I should just replace the whole damn thing? What would you do?
Could one add diamond dust to this pour without it being overkill on metallics? Also when Would you determine the need for metal braces in a table like that (or any table) to stabilize it from bending? Finally do you also seal the other side with epoxy or just the top and sides?
Thanks! Will do! I'm excited to get started! This is a great opportunity and I'm looking forward to creating awesome content. Quick burst from a torch eliminates bubbles.
Yeah if he'd sealed to holes before pouring the bubbling wouldn't have been an issue.
i was just about to say the same thing! he could have cut his time and material in half if he sealed the holes and cracks first

Have you ever tried or considered using a couple coats of a clean sanding sealer on the wood to seal it and decrease the bubbles coming from the wood.
Maybe a drop of superglue to seal the pin holes?
