That is a level of commitment that I don't think we have seen often. To completely remake the ground up and then offer it as a free update is commendable too. You would honestly think this is on two different generations of hardware.

What are you talking about? This was expected 4 years ago, and its NOT FREE if you want anything more than a slight graphic increase. You want scorched earth? Pay them another $40-$50.

This re release was built from the ground up for the Switch.
Loved the video and I bought this day 1! I wanted to show love for the devs who went above and beyond to fix their mistakes! You didn't mention in the video that they are giving this basically new game away for FREE to everyone who already owns Ark whether digital or physical! I didn't own it B4 so it was only $49.99 for the full game plus over a years worth of DLC! If you already own the game, as I said before, you can pay just $29.99 to get all the current and future DLC! Devs who go above and beyond and release a game twice on the switch should be rewarded for their perseverance and not doing the quick and easy "cloud" port. Companies like Capcom could release the new Resident Evil remakes on the switch (Monster Hunter Rise uses the new RE Engine and looks and runs great) but they choose not to and would rather save time and money doing crappy cloud ports. I was originally scared when I heard Grove Street was posting Ark but I was pleasantly surprised as the game is a load of fun and comes with interactive add-on game for kids for FREE (with new ultimate edition version).

to be fair I paid $50 back when it came out, now I still got shafted by having to shell out another 30 bucks for the DLC while people who didn't support the game initially essentially pay $30 less
@@Aereton lol, wow you have a completely entitled attitude. The dev released a completely new game yet they released the base part of that game for FREE for you. So you basically got the new game for FREE! If you wanted the expansions that add another almost two years of content you have to pay $30, boohoo! Skyrim just released the anniversary edition with new graphics, mods, etc. If you have the OG game you did not get any new graphical enhancements. On Ark you had the game since 2017, years of playing while the rest of us just got it. So to summarize, in the case of Skyrim AE, you got the new version for free. And you had to pay to get the new DLC. You should just be happy the dev reported a game and gave it to you for free. THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE! You can't complain that new users paid less 6 years later! Entitled much?!

It’s much better I’ve been playing a lot on switch since the updated. My only complaint so far is had a couple crashes and made me lose a tame since I hadn’t saved after taming it and the standing torches at night don’t light up enough area like on other systems so it’s hard to light up your base at night. The torch still casts the same Amount of light but standing torches won’t even light up your 4x2 hut.

6GB update came today (note sure if you have to update the whole game everytime). Keep in mind that the news devs are the devs who made gta triology. The game is great now on switch so the question is: was groove street responsible for the gta trilogy quality?

I was really looking forward to the new build of the game, and am happy with higher resolution and faster loading times but the devs messed up in a lot of aspects, and it’s given players a shaky launch, with multiple game breaking bugs, rollbacks, and annoying glitches like pitch black night time for example. Hopefully they swiftly correct these issues so I can play again.
For the physical version, are they going to rerelease it with the more up to date version on the cartridge, or is the original physical release being updated the only way?
It updates no matter what. I use a day one cartridge and have the update. You will need to buy the dlc though (scorched earth etc)

@@teenkitsune They did mention earlier in the year that a physical edition of the updated version is coming but will released months after the digital one.

I have the physical cart, its shrunk on there too, 6.2gbs.. and i also learned something! in that i didnt even know that it was even possible for them to shrink the size of the games once theyre already on the cart and out the factory, i knew they could put patches on them & adding dlc & bug fixes & stuff. Once whats his face said the info at PAX, i was pretty suprised & alao intriqued! cuz i had no idea they could do that.
That 2D forest reminds me of tne eafly days of playing fornite. I keep a video of the mine section not loading the collision of that area. It look just lime that tree, but the ground was chocolate pudding.
Do you know if they'll have a physical rerelease for this? I don't have wifi so a update wouldn't be viable, I don't even have the physical copy anymore. Returned it within the week when I first got it.
I recently started playing ark on switch again and yes it's way better I'm impressed
There are a few little fixes needed but I am very happy with this update.
I just wish the foliage had a farther draw distance on the new version, hills in the distance look so bare
An improvement to be sure but it still has work to do, particularly in performance. It does look better but I wouldn't call it "good" looking just yet... the footage you captured is not always typical in image fidelity, it can still look quite low res in places, and yes I mean in docked mode. When you get to places with more computational requirements like more moving objects and NPC's like a lot of dino's or huge dinos... it will start to slow.
I need to try this game. I have it free on my ps4 when it was on PlayStation plus but I’ve never downloaded. If it’s good enough on switch I think I’d rather have that version so I can play hand held.
They only updated the newer released version , not the base game I bought just a few months prior.
2018 look artistic with level of abstraction of details, if you want real challenge then you will pick up the 2018 version
I’m a new ark player. I spent some time today in the single player mode. I built a decent shack, tamed a few lower level Dino’s. Built storage and a sleeping bag. Was sure to save, often.
Got the pestal and mortar, and unlocked a couple recipes for it, except they didn’t all seem to register. The narcotics didn’t show up in the mortar. I saved again and tried to restart the game…there’s apparently no way to even open the ‘saved’ game….
What’s the point if I can never close it. I like to play multiple different games on my switch…
Seems like a total waste of money if I can’t save my progress

@@bradwatts3630 thanks tips, I’ve tried that already. A few times. There’s no saved data, and when I’ve tried again, it’s the same thing. Restart from the beginning each time. My house and all my crafted items, storage etc all gone
Has anyone had problem respawning? Every time I pick a spawn location I respawn to a completely different area of the map that I selected 😢
Bought the game and it’s crashing before logging in saying “Error occurred” wtf waste of money

I'm surprised they even felt it was worth updating. After four years, wouldn't most the sales be done by now?
What do sales have to do with it?, im suprised tho they bothered in any case..I dont think most would have...but we had it very unfair when all the other consoles got the live events, goodies and all the DLC and fixes that came with it.
Maybe they care more about the game and the playerbase, not everybody is just in it for the money.

2:22 is unbelievable. It's like 3 console generations apart them. There were N64 games who legit looked much better than the 2018 version on that picture, like Banjo Kazooie and Turok 2, and N64 were 4 console generations before Switch! Too games on Switch gets rushed, they had never dared to make the same thing on a Sony console. It's almost if they didn't want do a good job with their game on the most successful console on the market...
It still can't run stable 30fps but the visual is impressive enough, Ark will struggle in any console/pc especially when you tame a lot of dino or have a lot of building structures.
Original version have higher ambient occusion and probably higher shader or lighting preset, make the color and light/shadow somewhat like PC high preset looked, but damn that pop up, terrible textures and model details, and 240p - 360p handheld res - yes I even tested it with a mod and it really drop as low as 240p
So glad they revised it with and used Unreal Engine 4 for this.

Oddly enough I prefer the lighting, colors, and shadows in the 2018 version. Everything else is significantly improved in the new version.
Do you get weird lighting at night with it being extremely dark as well as a million stars or is that just me

Way better than the first release. Unfortunately in the last two days it’s crashed four times. I’m having to save constantly or redo so much.
Now up to six and counting.
Main thing I've had problems with is it crashes when I use dinos to harvest materials. I can only hit a couple of trees or bushes at a time or it crashes.

In a 2-3 hour session i could guaranteed a crash
Now i had 1 crash in more then 10 hours
Anyone download/play the new update yet? I just checked and its downloading but it made my download size double from like 6gb to 13GB. This is on the new edition. Maybe maps like The Center and Ragnarok and what not?
If they can do this for the switch i wonder what could be done for ps4 if they tried it could actualy run 1080p 60 or 900p 60 or at the very least 1080p 30 with no fps drops

I am enjoying the new updated version of arc on the switch however I am very disappointed in something. It was my understanding that the scorched earth map would be free for original owners of arc on the switch however I have no access to it it is not showing up on the Eshop For me to download for free only a paid version. Due to this I will probably only stick with the original map and not purchase as I originally intended the pass for the upcoming maps.
Multiplayer is already out.

it hasnt been fixed. ive played this update for 50 hours plus, cryopods are crash magnets, settings dont save (dino mating, xp settings) crafting stations will bug out and use fuel but not produce until you turn them off and on again. this version is pretty but broken. apparently no one uses cryopods or there would be an uproar. the update is broken
On the discord it was mentioned yesterday that the second patch fixing major bugs such as crashes spyglass not working and crypods has been made. Nintendo still has to review it

Pve servers r still messed up.
I’m on pve server 1 for the island n I got killed by a player n then they went on destroying my base n tried to take my spot. I logged out so they had to stop but they still did damage n I lost ALOT Of things.
If I wanted pvp I would choose that server. But I didn’t I picked PVE.

Sorry but no they did not fix it, no infact they made it much worse because for one you can no longer host your own non-dedicated servers anymore and you are only allowed 8 spots at the bottom instead of 10 and you aren't allowed to organize your items in your inventory or item bar at the bottom the usual way and what i mean by that is that you used to be able to just use the left thumb stick and buttons and just click on an item and then the box you want it to go to and it would go there but now you either have to drag and drop using the thumb stick and buttons or use the touch screen controls to do it now which i guess them adding the ability to use the Switches touch screen to organize your items is cool and all but why did they completely remove the original method? it doesn't make any sense, oh and to add to this already big heaping pile of smelly horse crap they also had the nerve to changed controls of the game for no reason, 🤬.
So again no this game wasn't fixed it was made 100 times worse because all they had to do was fix the frame rate and graphic issues and add the maps from the other versions of the game but no they just had to f it all up, and i got to say if they bring this absolute shitty update to the PS4 or Xbox One versions of the game i will never play Ark ever again.
Where is Fixed? Official servers still down xd And like 8197261967312 new bugs come with it
