- When Ark was initially released on the Nintendo Switch in 2018, it resembled something like a Velociraptor's chewed-up dinner, it was ugly, ran terribly, and was not very appealing to gamers, especially those who played it on other platforms. For most developers, this would have been a disastrous launch, most likely written off after a few updates, and it certainly seemed that way for a while there... but in April 2022, Ark was re-released, rebuilt in the Unreal Engine 4 from the ground up to bring an entirely new experience to the Switch. Did it work? Is ARK Fixed now? What's it Like? Grab some rocks, punch some trees, and find some shelter so you can enjoy this updated review of ARK: Survival Evolved on Switch.

As someone who played a few hundred hours on the xbox, I never thought I'd see it run on a Nintendo Switch
Not bad is it? I started off on the Xbox and I just had to buy it on Switch to see it
It is amazing on Switch now, but Gen Part 1 looks kinda meh.

Yeah it looks a lot sharper in handheld but I can only capture this one docked. Still such a massive improvement from launch!
I remember having frame issues when aberration first came out, I’d be interested to see how the switch performs with the bloom.
The bloom doesn't seem to have too much of an impact on framerste which I found surprising, but washes out a lot of the details when facing the sun. I turn it off even through the trees look a bit rough, it just works better for me.
I turn bloom off because you just feel blinded, or like you are in a dream most of the time.
I have enjoyed my single player time in Ark, and have had no issues, it looks fine on my TV screen!

It is very commendable all the effort the developers went through to improve their game. I got it last year for Christmas and put in maybe 5 hours, really wish there was an option to go to sleep at night and wake up at daylight like Minecraft because for me that really stopped me playing, and honestly I found things to be kinda confusing
Yeah the sleep thing is my only complaint too. It's very o erwhelming to start with too. I found some great guides online that helped me progress.
If you are on single player you can set night time to be quick or even off

@@imposs8101 go to the single players settings when you select a map , you can adjust it many ways theirs also console commands cheats that let you change weather spawn dinos and items

Fast question! Does it run well today? It is stable 30fps?
Runs smooth for the most part but does have minor performance dips.

Thank you. I'm not actually sure unfortunately. I only played on the official servers and also mainly play single player on an offline server so I could experience everything it has to offer

It’s basically fixed, however the lighting is still buggy. It always get way too bright or dark in certain environments, and there’s not much we can do with the graphics.
I think they did a really good job on it. A few people have told me you can change a slider so it stays day time all the time when playing solo. I'm going to try it out tonight once I've finished my current articles/review.
Would you still recommend the PC or Xbox version over the Switch?
I have the Xbox version and it looks and runs incredible, but I prefer the switch as I can play on the go. It comes down to personal preference

Not yet unfortunately, but another viewer did post a console command so it always stays day time!

Got alot of time in the airport coming up soon gonna buy this and see how it compares to ascended on the xbox
Graphically, It won't come very close but the entire experience remains relatively intact!
Do you happen to know if multiplayer requires you to buy nintendo switch online membership?
Local modes don't, only playing on the official servers do. Hope that helps!

@0alexander062 all mega tribes got wiped when the new update released since half moved to ps4 xbox and pc only a few left

The game is currently on sale on the E-shop I think. It regularly goes on sale and well worth picking up!

I really enjoy it and still play it, but I stick to offline mode. If it's on sale, it's an easy choice and I would say yes

It runs great on the switch lite! I was pleasantly surprised. It's my favorite game and I'm glad I can play it on the go now!

The fact they got this to work on a overpriced nintendo branded nvidia shield tablet made to get nintendo fans to buy games for 50 dollars or more for the entire consoles life is just crazy, great work they done, seemed impossible

The complete edition is on sale for $25 right now. I got No Mans Sky on sale for $30 and have put about 150 hours into it so far. I'd imagine I'll get good value from this game if it doesn't look as bad as Green Hell.😪 Could never get into that game.

@@whatsitlikeau I've put a lot of time in Ark on Switch since my previous comment and it's probably one of the best ports we have now on Switch. It rarely crashes and looks and runs surprisingly well but I hope we get the rest of the maps in the next few months because I think we're missing atleast 6. I've probably put the most time in scorched earth and aberration so far and barely touched the orginal Island map.
Yeah its incredible. I had no idea different dinos had different bonuses like Ankylosaurs for mining and what not. Once I get some of my review scheduled tidied up I'm hoping to jump back in!

@@talesofavloggingmommy8479 my main concern is storage space tbh, pc and console is reaching over 400gb with all dlcs installed and i dont know how they gonna compress and cram all of the maps onto mobile
