Tears for Fears is named after a phrase from the book Prisoners of Pain. It's meant to be taken as tears being a replacement for fears. One of my favorite songs by them is "The Big Chair."

Of course it is. It's their song & their is nothing like the original. "Break it Down Again" is also a great song of TFF's as is "Sowing The Seeds Of Love." Both songs are influenced by The Beatles & take on a Beatles pastiche in song structure & in production.

On the album, the song before Head Over Heels is called Broken. The bit you listened to was the live outro that connects them. You should check it out. In fact, after reacting to Shout and Everybody Wants To Rule The world, you should listen to the whole album to fully appreciate how amazing this album is. Sowing The Seeds Of Love, Mad World, and Change are great songs too...Deuces!

"Mad World" is a 1982 song by British band Tears for Fears. Written by Roland Orzabal and sung by bassist Curt Smith, it was the band's third single release and first chart hit, reaching number three on the UK Singles Chart in November 1982.

First, the bit that I asked you to read on camera: Now when you guys did the Tears for Fears song Everybody Wants to Rule the World, I saw a good number of people suggesting this song but an incomplete version. So it behooves me to make sure you get the best possible experience of this song. This video is how the two tracks appear on the album and listening to one without the other is like listening to Zeppelin's Heartbreaker without Livin Lovin Maid(She's Just a Woman) or Queen's We Will Rock You without We Are the Champions.
Secondly, there are some tracks that should be, dare I say NEED to be, heard together. Along with the two examples aforementioned and the one at hand, I'm talking about Tool's Parabol/Parabola, The Holy Trinity(Reflection/Disposition/Triad), Money/Us and Them/Any Colour You Like by Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa's My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama/Oh No/Orange County Lumber Truck, Pet/Lullaby/Gravity from A Perfect Circle and there's one other instance I can think of that I may request in the future.
Also gotta get to Shout, Mad World, and another of my faves, Sowing the Seeds of Love

    • @SquirrelSeb84
      @SquirrelSeb84 4 месяца назад

I'd even say that the first Broken has to be added to the beginning of this to make it perfect. I've seen a couple live versions where they do the whole sequence and it's amazing.

I love when y’all do one of my favorite songs ever and I can sing along lol
His name is Roland. The dude on the left. Who was signing this song
First love… I think I was 15 or 16. Yes, I knew. Idk how to explain it. It was just a gut feeling I had that I couldn’t put into words. He’s a writer now and has written a few novels.
The band’s name apparently was inspired by primal therapy. Not sure of the actual clinical application of ‘tears for fears,’ but the goal of primal therapy is to work through childhood trauma so it doesn’t keep affecting you as an adult. Maybe crying out your childhood fears is supposed to help with reaching that goal?

Tears for Fears are an English pop rock band formed in Bath in 1981 by Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal. Founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced Graduate, Tears for Fears were associated with the synth-pop bands of the 1980s, and attained international chart success as part of the Second British Invasion. The band's debut album, The Hurting (1983), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart, and their first three hit singles - "Mad World", "Change", and "Pale Shelter" - all reached the top five in the UK Singles Chart. Their second album, Songs from the Big Chair (1985), reached number one on the US Billboard 200, achieving multi-platinum status in both the US and the UK.[9][10] The album contained two US Billboard Hot 100 number one hits: "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", both of which also reached the top five in the UK with the latter winning the Brit Award for Best British Single in 1986.[11] Their belated follow-up, The Seeds of Love (1989), entered the UK chart at number one and yielded the transatlantic top 5 hit "Sowing the Seeds of Love".

A lot of the stuff you might have heard pieces of you’ve probably heard in stores on the intercom because they play a lot of it on those systems. Back in the seventies when I was a kid they wouldn’t play popular music they played what was termed Muzak music but that has changed. So stores can pipe in a larger variety of stuff but most generally stick to radio friendly popular music.

Such an iconic sound of an era where music you just felt in your soul. Also this was the 80s...folks actually had talent so most live shows didnt sound much different than their studio albumns....cant say that about artists now though.

Sometimes groups start with a real simple name but when they get signed by a company they might have to change their name so they run a check for availability of names sometimes and they might get a list of choices to choose from but other times they might just go with something that they have in a song they wrote or something that might have some sort of meaning to them personally.

Big Ben is a tower clock known for its accuracy and for its massive hour bell. Strictly speaking, the name refers only to the bell, which weighs 15.1 tons (13.7 metric tons), but it is commonly associated with the whole clock tower at the northern end of the Houses of Parliament, in the London borough of Westminster.27 Feb 2024
    Did they rename Big Ben?
In 2012, the tower commonly called Big Ben was renamed the Elizabeth Tower in honour of the Queen. It is the most recent twist in a long history of confusing names and nicknames. This latest appellation just adds to the glorious complexity.

We saw Tear for Fears in Boise several years ago. Rain delayed the concert for while, then they put on a spectacular show. Roland told the crowd his wife (back in England) had adopted two small dogs without consulting him and sent him photos the day before. He got to name the dogs, and chose "Boise" and "Idaho" as that was the next stop on the tour. Sadly, his wife has since passed away.

Funny that Donny Darko's version of Mad World by Gary Jules was made cause the original cost too much!

You would have been better listening to Broken/Head Over Heels/ Broken. Head Over Heels is sandwiched between the two Broken segments, if you had heard the first Broken you would have noticed that the piano in Head Over Heels, is the same piano as in Broken, the crowd noise at the end was just added for effect. You will have heard Head Over Heels from Donnie Darko. Tears For Fears have two lead singers, both guys sing lead vocal, the guy on the left is Roland, he sings Head Over Heels, the guy on the right is Curt, he sings Everybody Wants To Rule The World.

in the video roland is like s student bring books back to a libary and looking for some more.he has a crush on the libarian, sings to her.the band are there.curt is sweeping up,there's an orcastra on the second floor.a chimp.a jewish man.just people in the libary.when he says funny how time flys you see him older married to the woman with kids.
the version we heard on the radio or saw on top of the pops doesn't have broken attached.
please do mad world next.it is their song and fitting for early 80's.totally different from gary jules.

1: right selection (both songs) but wrong order...First, Broken, then Head Over Heels...that's the right order
2: this song (Head Over Heels) it's also included in Donnie Darko's OST...and is far more representative of the movie than Jules's Mad World cover, in my opinion
3: Roland and Kurt, both, are the lead singers, it's like Hodgson and Davies in Supertramp
4: they're absolutely not one-hit wonders, they're the authors of some of the best 80's albums

Might need to revisit the album. Track 6 is Broken and track 7 is Head Over Heels, that's true. But then track 8 is Broken(Live) and this is the true OTP. Here's two examples that someone else agreed with me that these two tracks should be listened to together and in this order
