Tears For Fears deserves induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
I agree
The R&R HOF has become such a joke, that I wouldn't care one way or the other, if I was in it or not.🙄
@@taylortyler1867 Of course it's a joke... Rolling Stone Magazine publisher and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame founder, Jann Wenner has lorded over
Songs from the big chair deserves an entire album listen. It’s one of the best albums of the 1980s. Period.
Seconded!!
The radio version of Head Over Heels is fine, but the song really shines on the album.
The transition from Broken to HOH and then back to Broken (reprise) adds to the grandeur of the music.
Yes it was given that distinction even recently.
Absobloodylutely.
THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE.
Sowing the Seeds of Love is an indelible Beatle’s homage that you have to hear to believe, and Woman in Chains is heavenly. Take your pick.
Agree with both. I also love "Advice for the Young at Heart".
Definitely "Sowing the Seeds". EPIC!
AND “Bad Man’s Song”
Woman in chains, Bad man’s song and Famous Last Words are my top three picks from the album but the whole album is perfection.
Seeds of Love is tied with Head Over Heels for my favorite.
You called it, dude. This is 100% my favorite Tears for Fears song.
me to its a perfect song
100%!
Me too!
Video of it is great as well.
Agreed. My favorite by them by a country mile!
This song never fails to put me back in the 80s when it was new. Funny how times flies.
Great songs never get old, they just keep getting played
So true
One album. That's all on ONE album. Head Over Heels, Shout, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Working Hour, Mother's Talk, I Believe, Broken...
And Listen.
And this should always be played with the Broken at the end. The boys missed this one.
'Funny how tiiiime fliiiies...' Truer words were never spoken. I was in 10th grade when this came out, and that last line pulls at my heart in ways I can't explain.
I was in the 1st grade when this came out. Loved it then and still love it today💕
It hurts so good... excuse me while I wipe my aging eyes...
Because life is shorter than we think when we are young - and you don't get a do-over.
Same here. Same age. And here we are older and time has flown by…
Sometimes a song just put you right back to that age with your friends and everything that’s going on in your world at that age. Bittersweet.
This whole album is a sonic masterpiece and the album version of this keeps going…
I love Roland’s voice so much
Rick Beato did a nice breakdown of this song as part of his “What Makes This Song Great” series.
Sowing The Seeds Of Love should be next.
+1 Sowing The Seeds!!!
That song was on the radio in a VERY timely fashion as a reminder to use a condom when I was 16. Disaster averted.
The soundscape of Sowing the Seeds of Love is so extra. Big, big +1.
Their homage to The Beatles. Great stuff
Absolutely
'Sowing the Seeds of Love" would be a great choice!
Another vote for Sowing the Seeds of Love. Such. A. Banger.
Roland Orzabal is a very underrated vocalist.
I can't overemphasize how this album really took off like it was on fire the first summer it was out. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" was obviously the big attention-getter, but the whole album turned out to be so good that it made a lot of instant fans!
YES. We hadn't heard anything quite like it, and it was🔥
I had been in England a couple of years before when the Police were breaking out... and then when Songs From the Big Chair came out I was blown away. While all of my friends in NC were still doing the southern rock thing (which is awesome) I was full tilt Tears For Fears, Police, and any of the bands coming out of England.
@@healthcarethoughtleadership Not sure if you were in England in mid-80s, but if you were, do you remember a group called Prefab Sprout, by chance? They didn't do much in the US (and I stumbled upon them by sheer chance), but their 1985 album Steve McQueen (Two Wheels Good in the US) was PHENOMENAL! Nonetheless, they probably didn't do much here in the US because of all the competition in '85.
@@oboogie2 I returned home before then. I need to look them up!
SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE by TFF is the banger you didn't know you needed.
"Funny how time flies" Truer words were never sung in a song. The video for this song is pretty great - worth a watch.
This song transports me. THIS is the sound of the 80s. Lucious choruses. Proper usage of keyboard, synthesizers, etc. the drum machine doesn’t even bother me. The production is fantastic. This whole album was great. Even for someone like me who is not a big fan pop music. You can’t help but love this album.❤
This song isn't drum machine. Head over Heels: Real Drums. Shout is drum machine except for maybe the break? The producer is credited with drums on it.
@@eboethrasher Hughes played drums on this and after the bridge in Shout
@@haroldlipschitz9301 Yep, I got it the first time. No drum machine that’s why it sounded so good.
Sowing the seeds of love!
"Sowing the Seeds of Love" and "Mad World" are other great TFF songs.
My wife and I walked out to this song at our wedding. Holds a special place in my heart. Thanks for reacting 🤙🏽
It's got that 'wall of sound' feel.
Phil Spectre lives!
@@ToeKnee-of2rc Hope Not
@@johnhurkett778 good point, well made, the moral being the music can be great but the human behind it can be an a***hole
Sowing The Seeds Of Love
"Sowing the Seeds of Love"--My fav Tears for Fears! Peacei! You two are the best reaction channel, because you are savvy!?!
Roland Orzabal is such an underrated vocalist, he's amazing! I love TFF, have seen them live several times -- this album was SO huge back in the day, not a bad song on the record. It does not disappoint, deserves a Patreon listen!!
Still get goosebumps and I'm 62. This was a huge hit when I was coming up. One of their best!
I love watching Alex's growing appreciation for 80's music, a lot of good stuff came out of that decade.
.....as well as a lot of shit.
@@JohnGraves1985as in every decade
Sowing the Seeds of Love next!
So glad to see you hittin Tears for Fears! One of the most iconic 80s bands. They were just on tour and still sound ridiculously good
The entire album is a masterpiece.
"Sewing the Seeds" and "Woman in Chains" next TFF songs.
👍
Woman In Chains is my favorite song off that album. Oleta Adams is just totally amazing on that😊
The la-la-la-la at the end always felt like walking down a sidewalk singing internally after realizing and accepting that you're head over heals.
One of the best songs from one of the best bands from the 80's!! I'm so glad the guys enjoyed it so much, I hope they add it to their personal playlists!! Now they need to hear "Sowing The Seeds of Love" and "Woman in Chains"!!
I love the proud "Yeah!" (3:18) from keyboardist , Ian Stanley, after the Synth solo . The band left it in he mix as the vibe was great when recording the song.
I love the way the video to this song ends. They are old and he is sitting at his desk and she brings him a cup of coffee. Just as he sings "Isn't it funny how time flies." As always great reaction guys.
I love that video too!
They really are the masters of writing singalong hooks and melodies. Can't think of many that do it better.
Agree. Hall & Oates had similar success.
Billy Joel, too. All great.
FINALLY! This is my number 1, always and forever, all-time favorite song.
Can't disagree it's in my top 3 of all time
Another vote for Sowing The Seeds Of Love by Tears For Fears.
This album gets better and better the more you listen to it. It's Brilliant. Also a great use of Phil's gated drum sound. It's everywhere in the 80's.
When this came out, although we liked it, I think we were underrating: "Oh yeah, it's a new wave vibe...That's cool", and we were lumping them in with bands like Flock of Seagulls...It was years later before I realized: "This is actually quite sophisticated songwriting"...
If you haven't already, mad world
Guys, this song was 🔥back in the day...the whole album was, really. Still is!
"it hard to be a man when there's a girl in your head." best romantic lyric ever. EDIT read the responses before wasting precious seconds of your life.
gun not girl
@@cdl7995nope, it's girl.
It’s gun in your hand
@@jackie_jrml oh... cool, I win the misheard lyric contest. scuz me while I kiss this guy.
You're right.
That album was their perfection.
The poly-melodies at the end are like a perfect brain massage. Piano and geoup vocals, guitar, bass, lead vocals, having different melodies that somehow do not clash and flow perfectly. It's genius. So climactic. But not too heavy or hard. Amazing
I saw them on thier 1st tour in the UK in the early 80's I was 14 & have loved them for a while
Showing the seeds of love .. excellent
You mean Sowing the Seeds of Love. lol
Sowing the Seeds of love …even better!
This IS my favorite Tears For Fears song! For some reason, it takes me back to every mall I ever went to in the '80s.
Yeah, this is S tier. Something about listening to this song while driving in rainy Gloucestershire England in a small 90s hatchback is an inexplicable feeling full of goosebumps I get. The keyboard only version with no vocals is god tier too.
Definitely a great song for a rainy drive in the fall.
I love them all. Shout is my personal favorite.❤
For me it was blasting around Europe in June of '85 in a 735i that I'd bought (& which was stolen in the south of France but eventually recovered) listening to this. The $ was strong and the bubbles were cheap. Great times.
Not far from the the birthplace of Tears for Fears!
“Working hour”
The vocal harmonies in this band are legendary
Thank You. Still plenty of songs from them. "Woman In Chains" (duet with Oleta Adams), "Sowing Seeds of Love" (Beatlesque in best possible way), ""The Working Hour," "Mad World" and more.
I missed the exact moment Alex became an 80's fan.
Look up their reaction to “Rio” by Duran Duran and you’ll see it happen in real time.
Oh yeah! Lol
It happens slowly and all at once 😂
@@alexbell3765😂
@@allisonreed7682 Thank you! I forgot about that. Back when they enjoyed the whiskey.
I’m an 80’s metal guy but this is absolutely one of the best songs ever written. Every part of this song is perfection. Not one wasted note, lyrically fantastic and immaculately played and sung.
Tears for Fears are Beatles-esq in their style but they are quite original. Excellent song writers. Thanks for the review.
When Big Chair came out, my ex, who was a huge Beatles fan, was seriously angry I compared their sounds. I'm always happy to see I wasn't crazy. 😊
You might still be crazy 😊. But all kidding aside, there just seems to be some similarities between their style and the Beatles. One would need to know what music was influential in the development of their style to see if the Beatles had some affect on the band. Another song I enjoy is Woman in Chains. I don't recall if it's in this album and it's not what you might think from the title; it's a metaphor, but this song is excellent to listen to when driving down the highway. Enjoy!
@@BowlerJ1 Listen to The Hurting, they were not Beatles-esque and I don't think any of us thought of them as that UNTIL Sowing the Seed of Love came out cause that hit us all from left field. They were pretty weirdly post-punk-ish art-rock-ish when they first started.
@@BowlerJ1 Woman in Chains is a heartbreaking and amazing song.
There's no such thing as a bad track from.this band, every track is glorious!
Ahhhhh 80's POP! I am back in High School!
Sowing the Seeds, baby!
Roxy Music -- Love is The Drug. Excellent.
I’ve been lobbying for that song for three years.
Roxy Music was one of a 2 or 3 original bands to come out of the 70's. They won't play them. My favorite, "Amazona". Which was sampled by Ice-T on That's How I'm Livin' (On The Rox Remix).
Dance Away too
AVALON will blow your mind.
Yes! Been lobbying for this too!
Head Over Heels is my favorite TFF song. I love it even more when it glides into Broken.
Now we’re talkin’. Goosebumps every time.
S isn’t high enough for this one, in my opinion. 🫶🏻
Agreed
Agree 💯 actually this is a top 3 song of all time for me... Impeccable
" Sowing the Seeds" is a fantastic song. So many parts and beautiful, unexpected chord changes..
you nailed it. So many good songs but this one actually is my favorite. I love the video too
Yea if you're gona make a video with your music, make it a good one. Which IMO is rare.
Yeah, it's a fun video. I love the keyboard player in it, he always makes me laugh.
Definitely one of the most interesting bands of the 80s.
LOVE them! Try: Sowing The Seeds of Love, Pale Shelter, Woman in Chains, Shout, Break it Down Again, Advice for The Young at Heart.
Finally someone mentions Pale Shelter
Brings tears to my eyes in a longing of a time I cherish so... miss my 80s! I was so free and me.
This band is an Iconic 80s band . Love their music so much. Thank you for the reaction. Please do more from them.
'Sowing the Seeds Of Love' could have been a great psych song even in the 60's. Awesome song.
Their ability to play with and expand vocal timbre is top tier.
Roland’s pipes are incredible. Strong, melodic!
It really isn’t.
Sowing the Seeds of Love is another great song from Tears for Fears…my personal favorite of theirs👍🏼
Great song. I was a 70’s girl and at my age now I appreciate these songs so much more. There was just so much good music it was under appreciated. Thanks for always being here for us. You guys are the best on utube. I also appreciate my granddaughter. She’s so much fun. We travel together and she takes care of all the details. Heading to Vegas in March.
Sowing the Seeds of Love is a trip! Very much a Beatles Sgt. Pepper era tribute.
Sowing the seeds of love. Dynamic
Already liked this before you all started. This is not just 80's gold, this is magic. 😎
Sowing the seeds of love or Mad World.
Sowing the Sees of Love, Woman in Chains and Mad World are must listens.
This is by far my favorite Tears for Fears song. Also, Donnie Darko.
My mom's favorite 80's band. 💯 #RIP
And she was born in 1953. 😎
The intro to this song never fails to give me goosebumps. It’s a certified 80’s anthem. Big Chair got worn out in my car tape deck.
Sowing the Seeds Of Love and Woman in Chains should be the next songs from them!!!!
5 year old me, cruising with my dad while he played this album on cassette over and over in his Honda accord with orange and blue pinstripes- Go Gators! ❤
I totally agree with Alex about HOH being a lot of people’s favorite TFF song. It’s always been my favorite. It’s just such a one-of-a kind vibe.
Total side note, but here’s why Andy and Alex are legit top notch reactors, they always listen to the correct versions of the song they’re reacting to, and they LISTEN to, and are not distracted by videos etc.. They just listen to the music the way it was meant to be listened to. Much respect to you both, it sets you apart from 99% of the rest.
I agree, the video for this song is distracting as hell, lol!
Thank you for reacting to my favorite Tears For Fears song, Head over Heels !
My favorite Tears for Fears song. Love this one!
sowing seeds of love, even better
My first car was a 1967 Chevrolet Bel Air, and I got it in 1975. The radio in that car was turned on when I got in it, and from then until about 2000 in that and every other car I owned the radios were never turned off. During those years, first AM then FM radio was a gold mine of music. Innovative, crammed with talent and a pure love for the medium, it was all good. Oldies, new stuff, always great. The last couple of decades, either oldie stations or the Ipod. But this song is just a sample of what was commonplace from the 70's until the millennium. I didn't know how good we had it then.
I also had a 67 Chevy but mine was a Biscayne, straight 6 and 3 on the tree. I agree about the radio always on and the plethora of good music available to us in those years.
@@AnthonyT50 Those big Chevys were sweet cars, mine had a powerglide with a 283 manual brakes and steering. You could carry an entire baseball team inside one of them, they were huge! That 283 looked like a hamster cage in that enormous engine bay, I'd love to see what a straight six looked like in there!
So true about radio. Hard to believe I never listen to any radio now. Taped Steely Dan's Aja album from an FM midnight radio show called "Record a Record" on my portable cassette player back in the 70's, along with many others. A magical time for music.
@@corbinhbucknerjr558 There would have been room to put a 3/4 bath in that engine bay. The st8 six took very little room.
Sowing the Seeds of Love will leave you speechless.
Songs from the big chair is an incredible album
As others said, "Songs from the Big Chair", "Seeds of Love" and "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending" all are full-album quality offerings. Beatles/Floyd-level writing and production quality.
You are not kidding, this band is off the charts good and could 1st and on the same stage with those bands.
Arguably the greatest song of the 1980's. The sonic layers, the chorus, the vocal, pop perfection.
woman in chains with Oleta Adams will knock your socks off :)
Advice For The Young At Heart is another great song.
I wore this cassette out back in the day. And with Mother’s Talk and Broken, it’s almost a seamless medley. Exquisite.
At the end of the song the lyrics are "Funny how time flies" then it does an echo fade to simulate time flying.
I first heard this song in 10th grade. I loved it instantly. The chorus is one of my favorites. The version of the song you heard is not the full version. You may want to check out the full version because there is an outro that is really good.
Nice to see the men happy finding a new song.
Grateful for everything esp Faith, Family and even the unpleasant things that make me learn, grow & appreciate it all more
Sowing In The Seeds Of Love is a must!
Tears for Fears are awesome. Lots of people will tell you to listen to "Everybody Wants To Rule The World", "Shout", "Mad World" or "Sowing The Seads of Love". They are your safe bets. Their best songs by a long distance are "Badman's Song" and "Women in Chains"
