I'm not a 52 year old dude crying..
It's just something in my eye..
Rest in peace MCA.
Beastie for life...🤘🙏💙
I feel you bro. Im 51. Dad turned me on to rush and zeppelin, my brother to the beasties. Still keep all 3 on heavy rotation, almost 40 years later. Losing MCA was tough.
I listen to them almost every day. I grew up skating in the 80’s and they were so cool!
🙏🏾
The best. At 60 I love these guys every day. What a speech. 🎤🎤🎤🥲
60 to 50 to 30 to the next generations who will appreciate the Beastie Boys
At the moment Ad Rock and Mike D were accepting their award, Yauch was dying in a hospital bed. So sad. They really did a good job keeping it together.
So much emotion in the Adrock/Chuck D hug.
It's hard to lose someone you been close to for years. I totally understand the situation.
🛠️
So sad
I feel like part of mine, among with many of the 80s kids’, died with him. Rip Yauch, for sure I don’t know you and the band at personal level, but for sure your work brought lots of joy into our lives.
Bless you. I'm a 58 year old lady from Amsterdam, saw them 3 times live in concert. Now dying of cancer myself. I think about Adam and the other Beasties often. Man, i still enjoy their music a lot. Keep rocking, keep grooving. Love 🤘✌❤
Keep going with music in your head. Beasty Boys live and their music as everyone who is loved lives forever.

Yea no one even makes a move to stand it up. I'm ready to jump out of my skin right now
RIPMCA
actually, 2 were laying down, and the third one they got last was standing up. so actually, MCAs was the one that was standing.
To those that gave this a thumbs down, you need to take a long look in the mirror and ask yourselves what’s missing. Beastie Boys represent nothing but love, humility, family, and sticking together. MCA you will always be with us.
From one BH to another, you just spit the truth. I grew up on the Beasties and anyone who can "dislike" a clip of these pioneers being inducted, must be clueless. They SHAPED a freaking culture and did so for decades!

I did not thumb it down but typical admission into the RRHoF should NEVER be taken seriously. The Beasties are 1 of about a dozen bands that MAY actually be deserving of entry. And though they've apologized and no longer endorse homophobia, they sure did at one time.
I gave a thumbs down because I don't want RRHOF recommendations in my feed. That's all. I think that's where a lot of thumbs downs(?) come from.

I'm 53 and STILL listen to the Beastie Boys. A true classic rap group who were and still are a part of who I am. Thanks guys!

Beastie For Ever.
Ad Rock and Mike D on stage receiving their award while Adam was living his last days… It’s one of the most heartbreaking moments in the Hip Hop history
Long live to the music ❤️
Whoever didn't grow up bumping the Beasties surely missed out on big part of the foundation of hip hip and rap in the early days.
My eyes immediately came to tears as soon as Ad Rock started reading MCAs words.
I was lucky enough to see them in Birmingham UK in 1986. They definitely touched my soul as a young man growing up in the UK.
Stop it!!! 🤣🤣💀 Yall make it hard for them to get their respect saying silly shit. They came out nearly 15 years after Hip Hop was created, they had absolutely nothing to do with the foundation of Hip Hop & they are not rappers/lyricists.They're just 3 white dudes who grew up loving all music & formed a band.No need to rewrite history, just give them their flowers.
@Stacy C Maybe not the foundation but they played their part in it's early journey. That fact can't be denied.
Rest in peace Adam .. you're one of the most badass MCs to walk this universe and will never be forgotten.
There are the occasional celebrity deaths that catch you off guard and hurt like losing a family member. The death of MCA cut me deep. I’m known to all who know me as the guy who has a huge music collection and always has the newest and most dope new music. The first album I asked my mom to buy me when I was 8 was the ‘license to ill’ cassette. RIP Yauch.
Exactly my story but I was 10 and it was Check Your Head.
My first "big girl" concert was the infamous Madonna one.A pack of wild 11 year old girls & here comes the Beastie Boys.My friend's mom was right outside the arena waiting for us.I still don't know how she even saw anything or what she saw but she ran down to our seats & herded us right back to the car 🤣 I was the only fan of them so I was pissed but I've been rocking with them ever since. They showed out on the Raising Hell tour.
I remember watching this induction. I knew he was fighting cancer. I had no idea how sick he was. I truly hope he realized how much his fans loved him before he passed.
That was my first cassette also bro. That and the Fat Boys
Mike D tearing up at the end got me good 😢
i only just noticed that 😭 my heart hurts rn
Now here's a little story I got to tell about 3 bad brothers you know so well, it started way back in history...

I attended the ceremony and kept hoping that MCA miraculously was healed and would be there. And then when Mike and Adam got on stage I knew it. I knew Yauch wasn't going to make it. The girl I was with said get over it people die every day. I left to go back home that night.
He was literally dying in the hospital while they were accepting their award.

@@Sosozanyway I wish I could say that I was lying but I am not. I am a massive fan of the band so I wanted to be there. I met up with this other fan and we hung out before the ceremony. I expressed my worries about MCA to her and she got annoyed and told me you don't know him, that is life, we all die. I guess that is how she views life. I was supposed to leave the following morning but I caught a flight back home late that night because I felt like we might get into a fight!

In 1984 or 85 I attended the Madonna (Virgin) tour here in Detroit. Beastie Boy’s opened. This was back when they were still a punk band. I loved it. Only problem was the crowd absolutely hated them. First time I’ve ever seen a band get booed off a stage. Probably not an opener for a Madonna crowd. Lol. I vividly remember Ad Rock, MCA, and Mike D) telling the Madonna crowd to fuck off Detroit and they threw their beer’s into the crowd lol. I think they played maybe 3 songs. Crowd didn’t know what they missed. Rip.
When all three awards were put on the podium... but only 2 members of The BB. I choked up. I’ve never seen this clip before, so Thank you for sharing.
How they kept their speeches together while their band mate was dying I have no clue
Its brotherhood. I spoke at my drummers funeral. No tears, never choked up. The car ride home I had never cried so hard in my life. Its just human nature to take over and allow you to do things you didnt think were possible.
maybe they had cried their tears in private and were cried out
Best acceptance speech for anything ever. Two dudes are so humble and down to earth. Really would of loved to see MC A up there with his brothers. R.I.P. MC A, you will always be remembered as a legend

That Licensed to Ill LP is one of Hip Hops greatest LP's in history.... every song on that ich was a banger! I still listen to some Beasties today!
No, Licenensed to Ill was most important for crossover. Their second LP, Paul's Boutique, was most important for hiphop. Maybe watch the previous clip of their introduction into the Hall of Fame with Chuck D and LL Cool J - Chuck D explains why.
Licensed to Ill was a great album indeed, but not their best. That's how good and consistent their output was.
What's funny..they were a hardcore punk band making fun of rap on the LICENSED TO ILL album..it hit hard so they ran with it. Go look up old school Beastie Boys..mic drop
@@netrioter I heard that before... one of my white co-workers back in the day told me it was a joke when I said the Beasties was one of the groups I liked. But they did work with DEF Jam to make it so how was it a joke?
@@netrioter they were punk rockers who were obsessed with rap. License to ill was making fun of the pop rock scene, not rap. They'd been doing rap for years before that album came out.
Seriously warms my heart to see these dudes do such an honor to their friend MCA while accepting the biggest award of their career. Will forever love the Beastie Boys! RIP Adam Yauch
I would argue that without these three guys, hip hop would not have been the success it has been to this day. I would also argue that their music is so incredible, it will be shaping the future of hip hop for generations before we all even catch up to where they were.
Good music, really good. Great ? Nah. Not possible when you sample so much of other people’s music.

This is so bitter sweet, so deserved, terrible that Yauch was too sick to attend this moment. The Beastie Boys were the soundtrack to my formative years. I remember sneaking out telling my mum I was staying at my friends house and going to watch the Beasties when they were considered hellraisers, my bestie told her folks the same and off we went! We saw them again in 95 after Ill communication came out. It was an incredible experience.

If you are a fan, it is ESSENTIAL.
I couldn't put it down.
Even better if you listen to it on Audible!
I saw Beastie Boy at Lollapalooza 94. I just remember thinking after watching them do Watcha Want, Sabotage, and Gratitude. How the heck is anyone going to beat that? Well Smashing Pumpkins were under whelming and Billy Corgan was talking about how he had sex and was a rock star and his band was pretty much asleep for their set.
RIP MCA, I still miss you, thank you for my early teen years! To those of you thumbs down. Have some repect for them.

Beastie Boys # 1
I am a total Hip Hop head, I grew up with the Beastie Boys and I can't watch this without a lump in my throat. The best and worst day of their career at the same time.
Rap music would not be the same without them.
The Beasties used to go down to Rock clubs in the early 80s where it was full on Rock and Punk scene. There is where the Beastie boys heard the first hip hop records being played over the loud speakers. it's crazy to think that in clubs where it was mainly Rock, they would play Hip Hop to rock fans. That's rock for you, they bring exposure to things that mainstream media wouldn't necessarily be covering. This is coming full circle for them tho, starting as a punk band and then evolving into a hip hop group. well deserved. RIP to MCA (Adam Yauch) and may the boys carry on their legacy any which way they can. Rock on \m/
Nightclub DJs have only one job - to keep people dancing. It's the ultimate meritocracy. If your record makes people dance, it gets played. In the 80s, it could have been U2, Michael Jackson, David Bowie or Grandmaster Flash. Back to back to back. Great era (but maybe I'm biased).
Most Punk fans loved Rap because it went against the norm.

Your message seemed like - you didn’t...
He treated his cancer based on Buddhist bs. A shame he didn’t go with standard medical practices, the legend may well still be here today. His choice of course but a sad end to a legendary group.
@Robert Anthony - yeah ok buttercup, i'll remain misinformed. I'm in no way a medical expert but from my personal experience, I'll stick with modern medicine over natural remedies when it comes to fighting the big c. Chemo and radiation treatment are brutal that is a given, but if it gives you a fighting chance to spend more time with ones you love, why wouldn't you give it a crack? Funnily enough I've known a number of people that have opted for natural treatments, and in every instance it ended quickly. I know more who have chosen modern medicine and low and behold most extended their lives for a minimum of 5 years with a majority in full remission and still walking this earth today. You do you and stick to your kale smoothies and hippy oil remedies when the time comes to fight it, let us know how it pans out.
