"It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam 'MCA' Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer," reads an official statement from the Beastie Boys. "He was 47 years old."

Being middle eastern and in high school at the time I recorded this because I am a huge beastie fan. I remember the feeling of solidarity I felt as a young teen. MCA was far ahead of his time and truly beautiful human being. So much gratitude 💛
Some people are ahead of their time. Adam, it appears, was ahead not just in Music, but as a human being. Rest In Peace.
He definitely saw there were some terrible things beneath the surface of American culture... things that would become mainstream not long after.
Or they kill him cause he knew too much..
He absolutely was.
Aqua Azobrab it happens more than most realize. Truly sad to see so many murdered
that´s awesome , but you make it sound like back then nobody care for humans rights xd
You can tell Chuck’s intro was from the heart. He was proud of his friends.
I thought it was forced. Like by the look ad rock gave him walking up was like a goat being led to its slaughter. Like they were all being forced by some sort of industrial deamon. And besides that it's quite prophetic that 3 years before 9/11 he said the countries from that area wore gonna retaliate.
I’ve had the opportunity to hang out w Chuck D and he is a truly down to earth guy. And really cares about the hip hop culture
@Nick G ehh not really
Ian McIntosh We’ll never know man but I would like to think that Chuck D knows how far The Beastie Boys pushed an former underground movement to a wider audience that bands like Public Enemy couldn’t have done, not because of their musical talent, but because Hip Hop crews like P.E were too hardcore and militant and not as accessible to a white audience, and Chuck D knows and respects this. In my opinion.
Peace and Love
@@mcintosh1346 Read the Beastie book or listen to the audio version, Chuck respects these cats 100 and rightfully so. Don't get an intro like he gave to his chapter on the audio book while being led to corporate slaughter...
I love how they dressed like boring office workers and didn't even mention it. I'd like to think it was an inside joke.
RIP MCA. You're sorely missed
Peter Bonde they dressed like that on stage all the time. It’s a punk rock thing originating from late 50s style.
They were dressed like they were in county jail
Are you new to them, that's 100 pct who they are.
8 years today, time goes fast but you're still very missed Adam.
RIP MCA one of the greatest mcs of all times.... it didn't matter if u were black or white, gay, straight or a hermaphrodite, Adam Yauch was man that taught everyone to love respect one other to live in a better place where we can party.... MCA thanks for the good rhymes and the positivity you taught us
What are your pronouns ?
The reason why people care when musicians die is because music changes us in a personal way. Even though we might not know him personally we can relate through music and that's what makes it beautiful.
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Strange how this is so relevant all over again.
Agree. Adam demonstrates a keen grasp of how military aggression is a zero sum game. As well as racial profiling. A very bright guy, who seems to be channeling his inner John Lennon(and others). Well done. He, too, is gone, well before his time.
So Glad Trump is here. Terrists are now too scared to try anything on America. Peace Through Strength. Promises made, promises kept. #KAG
@Doug Green First of all they are in No Way Hollywood, they have always been from NYC, (Just like Supreme Leader trump) Second, I thought any American has the right to speak on politics? (Oh I guess since it goes against your belief it should be censored)? Kinda in the Constitution called freedom of speech. Third. What is with trumptards obsession with hilary? It's laughable that you think that trump cares about anyone but himself. All he does is talk about ratings, crowd sizes and his bank account.
@@0truckmafk Afraid of trump? By that insane logic, Terrorists* were scared of Obama because we were never attacked. Trump is the only President that respects murderous dictators like Kim Jong-Un(said they fell in love from a letter). Erdogan (kills anyone who speaks out against him), Putin (says he believes Putin over AMERICAN INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES). Mohammed Bin Salman (Killed an American Journanist and trump did NOTHING because he signed a weapons deal with the Saudis) What a true patriot trump is. Draft dodging, Trust fund baby who files for bankrupcty whenever he owes hard working American vendors and the working class paychecks for building his gold towers. True Fuckin' Anti-American Donald Trump.
@Doug Green You literally just described trump. The Irony would be hilarious if not for how dangerous it is.
Adam on point! It's 2021 and his words are timeless!
RIP Adam Yauch. Smarter than any politician.
Clovis de Cruz what a great guy. Like everyone’s best pal.
Dude, you're Illuminati...otherwise I would have liked this comment twice
Idk. Benjamin Franklin was pretty smart.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha saying someone is smart because they are poets to instruments.
That's an extremely low bar. That's like saying, "Taller than any ant."
When MTV still recognized talent. Now it's just reality show garbage
OMG ... his speech blew my mind!
1998 !! .. this man was ahead of his time.
RIP MCA
Said the same thing, wow
inspirational. R.I.P. MCA.
Profound words that were proven to be true later specifically on 9/11. RIP MCA
Holy hell I remember watching this back in 1998. Shits crazy. RIP MCA.
Wow! Some some real wisdom on today. I can't believe this is 1998
My man said this in 1998?! He predicted what happened if so. that's crazy....
Brandon you are exactly the type of person he was trying to speak to. He is not referring to anything remotely tied to Iraq. At that time President Clinton had sent cruise missiles into Afghanistan and Sudan to strike al-Qaeda training bases and a supposed chemical weapons plant. I'm sure you're aware of 9/11 which occurred three years after this, the retaliation MCA was warning us about. Saddam was a real POS however he suppressed militants, notice how you never heard of ISIS until AFTER he was removed. The Iraq war had absolutely nothing to do with terrorism. Also Saddam hadn't just started to fuck stuff up, he had always been a brutal dictator.. and yes we enabled him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Infinite_Reach
There are 4 people in the group. But MTV forgets about Mix Master Mike. SMH. Just one of the greatest DJ's of all time. No biggie.
Well said!!
MMM was mostly a live member/studio collaborator. He was a important component, but he wasn't really a part of the group. He is like the 5th Beatle (the 4th Beastie)
There were other collaborator/DJs like DJ Hurricane.
I feel old 🤣🍀💯
If anything Money Mark is the 4th Beastie... Mix Master Mike was barely in the group if you look at the full timeline.
Adam Yauch had some big stones. I've been listening to their music for many years, but I always hear something new, and something new to love.
When MTV was actually about videos.
& Music
+Segun Olorunyomi real music
Anyone notice his face at 5:31 lol 😂
Actually, in 1998 MTV was a bunch of bullshit beach parties that marc mcgrath was getting the "scoop" on.
MTV stopped being about videos in 1992.
Holy Shit MCA was the shiznit. Miss that dude
I still ROCK license to iLL in my car.
Jose Montano Hell! yeah!
Me too... plus Paul's Boutique
Constant rotation. Fuck anyone that doesn’t do the same
Yo hell yeah! Three MCs and One DJ, Watcha Want, and Girls all day bro!
Ahh shit Remote Control too!
2016 and his lyrics and words are still relevant.. Rest In Peace MCA

Dude was an activist at heart and wanted a better world... Admittedly I can't help but wonder if some power somewhere did him in. Not only did he speak out against the cabal here at home, dude took on the Chinese communist party as well with his Tibetan involvement. Much love and respect... His legacy will never fade!
Well said
Cancer of the salivary glands.
Aaron R he had pancreatic cancer.
Goe N. Phuc Yer-saylf -- parotid gland. salivary gland. which probably spread elsewhere.
www.webmd.com/cancer/news/20120504/beastie-boy-mca-dies-had-salivary-cancer
Tom and Zach are still alive and they preached a lot of the same stuff, pretty sure it was the cancer.
Truly prophetic words - which unfortunately fell on too many deaf ears. Beastie Boys one of the best bands ever
I am just crying right now realizing that MCA is gone and he had the right ideas and a heart of gold. His wisdom will live on forever. RIP MCA. Fuck Cancer!
This lets you know how real the Beastie Boys were. Chuck D introduced the Beastie Boys. That’s real respect. Innovators of music. They dabbled in everything.
i love this, he sacrifices his own lime light to raise awareness for a serious matter much bigger than himself. you have just to respect an artist, let alone a person, who can do that. Rest In Peace MCA
What I find amazing is that MCA said all of this stuff before 9/11, the invasion of afghanistan and the invasion of Iraq.
So much courage to say these words. Sad I only found out about him today :O
That is fucking sad honestly
Better late than never.
You still found out about him...go and be educated :)
now go listen to it all, you got a LOT of catching up to do, happy listening!! RIP MCA lml
MCA was so right and relevant so long ago.
That's the problem, nothing changed. ppl should have listened.
The 90s was really something man
I feel like “straight up real props” from Chuck D and the crew is worth even more than the award🤘😆🤘
MCA won't be forgotten, unless we remember him. then he will last forever.
Wow. And half the country is still struggling to figure this out.
Rebecca Reed
Whgyl
More than half... Sadly 😔
@sean grant kook
@sean grant look into the definition of the word racist and you'll find your answer.
@sean grant what the fuck is wrong with you? how do you take this beautiful moment between friends and turn it into some racist bullshit? fuck off! nobody needs your fucked up brain!
Chuck D looks like a goddamn Hip-Hop Superhero! Praise to Public Enemy
Michael Farfan he is a hip hop super hero.
He's the man,the myth,and the legend
How does one become a hip hop super hero?
man, i didnt know he did this. wow my respect for him has just been multiplied by infinity. and now im even more sad that the world has lost such a great man
That’s why They took him. Rest In Peace brother❤️
i agree with mca's speech, he knowns whats going down
dammm it give him a second to speak, he is talking to the future ..
"The future" is ignoring him as much now as they did back then, unfortunately. I saw them on their first tour with Run DMC and have loved them since.
@@briansmith9455 Very unfortunate.
I usually get annoyed when celebrities try to give political speeches because it often comes across as an exercise in ego and attention-seeking, but I have mad respect for MCA for espousing his views in a humble and earnest fashion without screeching on and on. God rest his soul!
yes, I don't know what politics has to do with the beastie boys winning an mtv award. there is something to say for "knowing your audience." honestly, it was awkward.
We were fortunate that guys like Yauch was amongst us for a short time, to not only create the music that he, Mike D and Ad-Rock created but to also to remind us that care and compassion is what the world needs, more than ever. He is forever missed.
Miss these dudes......... Rap has never been the same.
He says: "I love you mom. I love you Dave Scilken."
Dave was a member of Adrocks first band, The Young And The Useless. He died of heroin overdoes May 26, 1991 not long after getting out of rehab. He was a good friend of the band and was often referred to as 'the fourth beastie' as he was often with the band on tour. He was the 'trim coordinator' (he helped filter out the lame annoying groupies and got the cool girls backstage).
Thank you 10 year old comment
damn, rip MCA, need more people like him!
Jeremy Magrini very true. I loved how chuck d called him mike d. I forget and still call him mca
watching this again is 100X better than the current vmas
And all these years i first listened to the beastie boys back in 1988 and let me tell you all the haters doubted the beastie boys would ever make it big but those 3 u young dudes gave a middle finger to all those haters and they are the greatest of all time.
God dammit, this is just as true today as it was back then. Fuckin love you mca.
Soooo glad I found this, that was so well done.. RIP Adam .. hard to believe that I can't see them again live
King of the Ave keepin it real up in here. I got mad respect for the man.
Beautifully put Adam Yauch. RIP MCA ❤
Remember when musicians had something to say? Gone are those days.
Damn Adam Yauch was on it, just a few years from the retaliation felt at 9/11. Loved the Beasties Boys ♥️ Rest in Peace Adam Yauch-MCA.
14 years ago this man spoke the truth, but no one listened.
RIP MCA
This was before 9/11 and seeing that mca is tryna be positive towards the middle east at that time just shows how peaceful of a man he really was. May God rest his soul
I grew up listening to the Beastie Boys. RIP MCA.
Extremely creative dudes. RIP MCA. They walked hard and got respect. Props.
The era when music was great...80's 90's and early 00's
You forgot the 50s and 60s.
@@georgesed2447 and 70s
@@brendangilmartin4002 lol I purposely left out the 70s, personally not a fan.
It doesn't matter what anyones opinion of his remarkable speech is, the fact that he had the decency and courage to stand up for what HE 'no doubt' believed in and humanity is nothing short of amazing. RIP in 2018.
Yes true words
3 years later 9/11th. Simple boy from Brooklyn. Fuckin' visionary
The true bastard in his ranch of Texas painting his fuckin' dogs. So sad...
Your words will live forever.
True words, Adam. True words. RIP
I never saw this before, but Adam nails it, after all those years. Way ahead of his time, gone to soon. Legend.
I'm getting all misty :(
@@mikerusso703, Jermaine Smith, who was my black friend in the 3rd grade, gave me his copy of license to ill to take home and make a copy of(but also so i could look at the album cover in the mirror to read the message on the side of the plane) I believe this small act of interracial kindness in 1987 lead me to a life of looking past color, and that music is important and has no borders.
1998 MCA was speaking the truth on today.
i love them they were sooooo humble! Sleep In Heaven MCA
Let MCA speak his mind...they did...and He will now for eternity...He's an Angel..
Love em My 7 year old was just walking around spitting paul revere from memory . Powerful skillz that transcend
Makes me cry to this day
Adam yauch a true humanitarian ❤
out of all the celebraties that died recently, mca is the only 1 i shed a tear for(no exaggeration), its not fair this guy didn't deserve cancer, its just not fair
Oh my god it's a mirage!!! I'm telling you all it's sabotage!!!!!! RIP MCA
20 years later, not much changed ☹️
Way ahead of his time MCA. 2018 same issues.
Wow, Yauch foreshadowing 9/11? The world misses you MCA.
Watched this live! At the time everybody kinda hated on him...I guess, not anymore.
He was pretty spot on
Adam is telling the true - no violence, no war! fuck. i love him. RIP Adam!
and look at the US now, if only someone would have listened to Adam back in the day....
Chuck D....ultimate badass.
Words of the future past...RIP ADAM. Well said
Oh ladies and gentleman what a time to b alive when this hit...
he knew what was up
Adam was huge!!
Legends never die. ☝️❤️
Damn. I didn’t want to lose any respect for MCA.
" 2 Adams and a Mike " like Beastie Boys! MC a, had the illest voice
RIP King
The man had balls, you gotta respect that.
RIP
Yes, he did. Brass.
knowledge dropped
RIP MCA...bless your soul bro & thank you for all the great music & times
he wasn't wrong!
So right on, thank you MCA.
wow!! before 9/11.. awesome shit.. rip MCA
This clip makes me so proud to be a hip hop fan. Much respect to MCA & Chuck D. RIP
more relevant in 2.017 than ever...
MCA has the words. RIP man. I love you
Rest in peace MCA
If only Yauch was alive and the ObeseOrangeIdiot was in his place.... MCA could’ve been president he was so far ahead of his time and such a true MAN. #RIPAdamYauch
This sure is timely! So good!
R.I.P MCA will be missed
i dug the b.boys when i was young, then next thing i hear was one of them died, i didnt know it was the coolest one, now im researching adam yauch and that shit was DEEP!
One of, if not the most influential artist on my life, up there with Chuck D. RIP my brother. Your soul lives on through your music and in all of us.
