In case any young folks don't notice or understand: Mix Master Mike is creating the beat by scratching on one vinyl record. No second record playing a loop, no drum machine, no computer. He's rapidly back-spinning on kick and snare parts, then jumping to separate synth and horn parts. On one record. Because he's a Master.

@@darkassassin6457 It eventually destroys them. But it’s not exactly hi-fidelity sound you’re looking for. You could keep using a record for scratching for ages. Most DJs would try and pick up a few copies of whatever their main beats were.

Shot in one take, and the video's audio was recorded live on set as the band performed the song (that is why it's different from the studio version). They shot in the same place where they recorded Hello Nasty. Directed by Adam Yauch (MCA) under his pseudonym Nathaniel Hörnblowér.

I can DJ and I distinctly remember not believing that this beat could be done by scratching until I actually saw the video of him doing it. It's a really difficult beat to do, with the snare drum sample coming before the kick drum (with hi-hat over it) on the record. It's insanely fast and precise stuff. One continuous take, no needle skips, and such a funky, awesome beat. I don't think it's ever been topped!
