Welcome to the first Carlton Hotel. We hope you enjoy the full visit to this forgotten building's history in Johannesburg.
Incredible to think that King George VI and his family (including Princess Elizabeth who later became The Queen), stayed at the old Carlton Hotel in 1947.
Now the whole area is a disastrous crime hotspot!

Thanks for your comment Sompisi. Doesnt seem like Transnet Properties which are the owners of the Carlton have plans. Not even using it as a touristic attraction....😥 Will boost the visitors in CBD specially the international community which visits our country, in normal circumstances. This hotel is famous overseas. Carlton's fame is legendary!
@@Livinginsatv I strongly agree with you on that one. I for one would be among the first people to visit.
Interesting so there was another Carlton Hotel before the current one so in time will another company demolish the current hotel and build a new one like a phoenix been born from its own Ashes.
As far we have seen story always repeats itself.

So where was the 1st Carlton hotel located at & why was it abandoned like that?
Hi Thandiwe. If you see the full video, you will see that one of the photos will show the old location before it was demolished. The reason why was taken down was to give place for a new Carlton Hotel which is the one that I show in the background of the video. The tall building. I hope I replied to your question.

@@thandiwemntande2364 I would love to but Transnet Properties which is the owner doesnt want anyone inside. I was inside the building last year but they didnt allow me to take a camera. I went to the 8th floor to be exact.

@@thandiwemntande2364 That is even more difficult. The owners, joburg skyscrapers, exist on paper but in reality they are 'ghosts'. Probably one day I will be able to go in, who knows.
