The Carlton is, yes, dated but it is still a thriving shopping complex filled with life and hustle, from what I can see on this walkthrough and my last visit, it is clean, safe and play a vital role in the CBD economy.
Joburg has changed and grown since the Carlton was at its zenith so, it will not be as it was. We now have hundreds of other locations around the city which did not exist then.
Correct.💯🏆✔️🇿🇦💪
OMG!😮Awesome! This brought back great memories. ❤ My mum had the Droste Boutique on one of the corners of the Upper Rondehof for 26 years. I grew up scating in the ice rink initially which was on the Lower Rondehof circle and later at the Skyrink across the road. They had magnificent Ice shows there and discos in ice.
I was one of the judges at 1993 Mr Carlton Competitions in the Lower Rondehof circle. That was fun. 😂 One of Chris Barnard’s (First Heart transplant surgeon in SA) sons was a contestant.
Carlton center and Johannesburg CBD in general used to be the place to be. Not what it has since become. It's only a shadow of its glorious past.
Lets look at it in a positive light.
@Livinginsatv what does that achieve?
The Carlton is finally up for sale! The next investors should be considering an ice rink as the key attraction at the Carlton Centre, especially due to its history...
Has been always for sale, the problem is to push the investment to Joburg CBD.
Man as a kid we used to love going to the Carlton Brings back so many memories
Nostalgic 😁😁😁
Must have been truly amazing on is hey days. 🇿🇦🏆🤣💯
Wow, I love the history lessons, about Carlton
True story right there. 🇿🇦✔️🏆💯
It's now 50 years old and very dated. probably reached its use-by date. Was there around 2000 and not much change.
We just need to re-think the Carlton.
I like this mall for shopping.👏🤗😁❤
Shopping there is not the problem, it's getting in and out of Joburg without being mugged / robbed / hijacked / smash and grabbed, that is the problem. I'll stick to Sandton or the safer suburbs thank you! Outside of the mall, the streets aren't safe and stinks of urine and decay. 🤢
Yes, but there are a lot of places looking great in CBD. The CBD has soul compared to the brand new areas. We just need to create awareness of what is positive.

Put some new immigrants from Europe also into the city of Jo,burg .Hillbrow was the best in the world in 70,s and 80,s to stay. If it is safe peoplle come back.
@@stoltmain123 There will not be new immigrants from Europe. Why I would go in a getto country when can go with Croatian passport everywhere in Europe. Entire EE same.
Very interesting video, thank you! 👍
My pleasure. 🏆💯🇿🇦✔️
The red bus is the hop on - hop off bus.
Correct.🇿🇦🏆✔️💯
I pleased to see this has been taken over and looks good again I loved shopping there when I was young with my parents back in the 80s , loved the big CNA there (I just loved stationery)😂😂😂 8 years ago I visited the Dubai mall now that’s a mall ❤
That Carlton Centre is deteriorating, it is more like is managed by cadres and comrades. Sometimes escalators are not working for days, water falls through in other parts of the mall when it rains...narramean😅
It is not perfect, but is working.🇿🇦💯✔️🏆
@@LivinginSAtv Yeah. We can only hope it doesn't close but improve.
@@onlineboss4679 I will try my best to promote this city to the world and bring great things into it.🇿🇦✔️💯🏆💪
Love❤️ your channel Mr D, you doing the most!
Are there any plans to revive the Carlton Hotel?
I think it should be converted to office and apartments. It would be awesome.
Transnet is looking for investors presently.
Was once the pride of South Africa, the place to be in Jo’burg. Just like what Sandton is today. Heartbreaking to see the Carlton go to waste 😭😭😭
Hilary Clinton stayed at the hotel during the 1994 Inauguration of Nelson Mandela. She sent one of her Aides to buy Potpourri from our shop, because the rooms didn’t smell nice enough 😂.
The President of Nigeria came with all his bodyguards to shop with us too.
The Viennese Ball took place in the hotel ballrooms annually. 💃🏿🕺🇦🇹
Such a romantic era.
One of the Centre Managers was a previous manager of Harrods in London.
The views from Panarama 50 on the 50th floor were breathtaking.
Thanks for sharing.
Only a pleasure. 🇿🇦🏆💯✔️
Is the Carlton Hotel still open?
No unfortunately
Thanks but no thanks..wont take my family to high risk areas...
Dude you fortunate you didn't get robbed right there for your wallet and stuff or on commissioner Street while people just watch and do nothing. Just the other day there was robbery of cash in transit. The people on the road had to dodge bullets. My aunty lived in Braamfontein in the 90s and early 2000s. This used to be tallest building to shop at.
Relax, has security everywhere now.
@@LivinginSAtv relax??? what you mean just last month did you see the shooting there. This place is not safe to take your family there. This place used to a great place to go in the 90s even but not anymore. The ice rink used to be classic attraction. So for me it's access and your own risk. Rather stick to Sandton City.
@@John14vs6_Hey, it was the only shooting there for that month, and not too many people died. For joburg, that's a win!
what do you mean? JHB is very safe.
@darkgalaxy548 oh no it's just still risky 😮
