Slava's Adventure in 🇿🇦 playlist ruclips.net/p/PLuKKdXhv4SaNKWnc_0FWi23xkUvO7dHe1&feature=shared In the early 1990s, a group of Afrikaners had a vision: to create a self-reliant, independent community where they could preserve their culture and way of life. This vision led to the birth of Orania, a town located along the Orange River in the Karoo region of South Africa's Northern Cape province. The story of Orania begins with its founder, Carel Boshoff Sr., a theologian and cultural activist. In 1991, Boshoff and a group of like-minded Afrikaners purchased the town, which had originally been built in the 1970s for construction workers on the Orange River Project. The town had been empty for years, but the new owners saw its potential as a pilot project for Afrikaner self-determination and cultural preservation. From the start, Orania was designed to be a self-sufficient community. The town's economy is largely based on agriculture, with a significant focus on pecan nut farming. Orania even prints its own currency, called the Ora, which is pegged to the South African Rand. The town operates independently, with its own municipal administration and no reliance on national funding. Orania's commitment to self-sufficiency extends to its energy needs. The town has invested heavily in solar power, aiming to achieve energy independence. This dedication to sustainability is evident in its infrastructure, including its sewage works and landfill site, which complies with stringent environmental regulations. The town has also faced its share of controversy. Critics argue that Orania's policy of being a whites-only community is a throwback to apartheid. However, the town's supporters point to the South African Constitution, which allows for the right to self-determination, as justification for its existence. Despite the challenges, Orania has grown steadily. The town's population has increased significantly, and it continues to attract new residents who share its vision. Orania's future projects are ambitious, with plans to expand the population to 15,000 inhabitants. This includes the development of new housing, businesses, and factories, as well as a major expansion of the solar farm. 60 million South African Rand (approximately 3,225,000 Euros) Orania's story is one of resilience and determination. It's a community that has faced scrutiny and controversy but remains steadfast in its mission to create a self-reliant, sustainable, and culturally rich environment. As Orania continues to grow and evolve, it serves as a testament to the power of vision and the strength of the community.

I am a black South African. To them Holland is as foreign as it is to me. All they know and understand is South Africa.
