Great to see someone who really knows their mythos. I want to say something to the posters below who belittle her as awkward or socially inept. She got up and participated in a game show for very bright people, and acquitted herself extremely well. I am sure that her true desire in her heart of hearts is actually to gain your approval of her physical appearance, and she will stop this silly "learning' and 'reading" nonsense when she realises she should apply herself to being pretty for youtube.
3:55 "Safely confined to the book. You close the book, and put it away" And then the book opens by itself, and unspeakable, indescribable arcane horrors trudge forth from the pages of the book. They're pouring into the world by millions! There's one at my door! AH! Help me! It's got my leg! Oh my god, it's teeth are biting into my abdomen! *gurk*
This is true. The Cthulhu mythos was written by loads of people so it kinda deviated away from Lovecraft's ideas somewhat. Having said that, some of Lovecraft's characters and locations were borrowed from earlier writers such as Bloch, Chambers and Derleth.
It is true. She is one of those girls that you only hear about in movies or dreams. A girl who enjoys Lovecraft, amazing, indeed. And she seems intelligent and has an interesting air about her. I'd love to talk to her one way or another. She has good looks, in my book, but what draws one in, is her personality and the way she goes about herself. That and I love her accent. *smirks* Well done to you, if you ever read this Miss Campell
Ironically the one question she passed on is one of the few I knew the answer to having read The Color Out of Space. (considered Lovecraft's best work by many I think including himself)
She's fucking brilliant. A high brow chat about our Goth pal Lovecraft swiftly followed by a return to the academic reality of mastermind, a question about jason donovan. A tricky one at that - not about his favourite drugs, but his pop career. But our Laura was on the case
At the premier of "Dagon" in Austin, Stuart Gordon said "At the Mountains of Madness" would be his next Lovecraft project...of course that was like 8 years ago.
I pronounce it neither way, but in only two syllables - cthewl - hew. - running the 'cth' together to create an unnatural, alien sound. This is how Lovecraft himself said it, as he indicated in a letter he once wrote.
it's because in being translated to some other language, it was for some reason spelled "Ktulu" which was adopted in the metalic song "The call of Ktulu" which as a song attracted many people to the story people who had learned to pronounce it Ktulu.
+Gary Bradley I imagine it is because of the RPG but anyone with a minimal knowledge on Lovecraft knows they are (sadly) known as Cthulhu Mythos (should be Lovecraft Mythos, as luckily some experts are promoting now; hope they achieve it). BTW, one of the few coherent statements between the 2 letters where Lovecraft stated how should it be pronounced is that it was only two syllables, so it's Xúlu or similar, not the damn Ca-thoo-lhoo the RPG promoted.
I think the first phoneme of "Cthulu" - represented by "Cth" is the same as the sound in Welsh represeted by a double L, or the sound in Klingon represened by "tlh". I'd call it a voiceless retroflex lateral - position your tongue as if to say /l/, then draw it back so the tip is against the middle of the roof of your mouth. Now breathe around either side of the tongue, without vibrating the larynx. Though of course, it's only meant to be an approximation of a sound made by a non-human vocal tract.
Yes. Thank God I wasn't the only one. The mythos was known as 'The Cthulhu Mythos' - The Call of Cthulhu was a story which referenced Cthulhu and the Cthulhu Mythos.
She has given herself to the Deep Ones many times and gifted them with her children. She's gotten and given more and with a wider variety than any mortal woman should.
Laura Campbell I salute thee. Thanks for posting this. If I met a chick that knew this much about Lovecraft, I'd probably break down crying and dissolve in my own black oh so black tears.
hi English is not my native laguague and I couldn't understand her answer when she won her 9 point; the question was what is the name of the old german musician who plays strange music on his...
talk about Yog-Sothery!! and you are right!! and it was also Derelyth who changed the old ones and the other gods into "good gods" and "bad gods", something the old gent never intended to do! and watch out if that beef bus goes anywhere near Innesmouth!!
Laura is a fantastic woman. I had the pleasure of knowing her for a few years. Unfortunatly we lost contact when she went to uni. I would love to get in contact with her again.
@binarynightmare *raises hand* Female here. Like Lovecraft. I also play FPS and RPG video games, listen to metal, LARP Vampire... there are plenty of women who have unusual interests; we just don't talk about them to every random person we meet because the average person is like, "Lovecraft? Is that some kind of sensitive pornstar?" and if you start mentioning ancient horrors from beyond the stars they just kind of stare blankly.
Laura was an old girlfriend of mine. She insisted we run naked through the forest whenever there was a full moon, drink lots of absynthe, then cavort in the undergrowth until dawn.
If the dormant Zkauba facet should awaken and learn of this, she (or at least a part of her) will be on her way to Yuggoth (or was it Yaddith?) tomorrow in a shiny new Mi-Go brain cylinder.
Precisely! If you're referring to just Lovecraft's work, I call it a Yog-Sothothery, as that's what he named it himself. When you start throwing in non-canonical material in, then I call it the Cthulhu mythos. That's just me, though. I'm not a huge fan of any of the other mythos writers.
I know three of those answers. She is so freaking awesome. And I read somewhere that as long as you try to pronounce Cthulhu, you really aren't wrong. I, as well as many, just pronounce it "Ka-Thoo-Loo" although I have also heard it "Kluh-hloo" and "Seeth-Loo".
She's very intelligent and somewhat sexy in a Queen of the Dead point of reference. While I think Lovecraft was a paranoid racist it cannot be argued that he was also suffering from a grave lack of social skills that influenced his writing. As one just thinks about his haunts in literary sense, his detachment from society is what makes work unique but, also ultimately closes him off further from reality. This young lady on the other hand is quite the charmer and it would be a pleasure.
From what I understand it's virtually impossible for a human to pronounce it the way Cthulhu himself or one of the beings associated with him would. We simply aren't built right for it. But ClunytheScourge1 is correct at least in part. It's a sort of guttural, alien sound.
He also wrote that it is an alien word that can't be pronounced in the english language or any other human language therefore it can be pronounced anyway you want.
Very impressive! When the stars are right, she will be eaten first.
hahaha very good
CLASSIC! 😂
I'm in love!
"I think there is something quite cathartic about being quite thoroughly freaked out".
This sentence must go on my tombstone. Seriously!

Oh, Derleth was prior to Lovecraft! Never thought about that, you are right.
And your chosen subject?
...um..
C-Clifford the Big Red Dog.
I wish we had this show in the States.
This girl is great, I would spend hours talking with her about the old Howard Phillips and his hideous works.
+Juan Borjas Well, you'd have more chances if you thought you'd spend hours listening to her.
Could be a tad monotropic, going on and on about the same thing, couldn't she. it's the syndrome you know. I forget which now.
She's hideous too.
The overbite actually enhances things for me... brilliant, AND jam-packed full of obscure trivia? My heart is a-twitter.

Well done to you, if you ever read this Miss
Campell
OMG, she is over the top. I've met literary scholars who couldn't top her on Lovecraft.
She does seem to have the Innsmouth look
r'lyeh, R'lyeh, R'LYEH!!!
Laura is an amazing woman. I knew her many years ago before she went to Uni.
H.P. would have loved this girl.
Love the British accent.
Beautiful, intelligent and a fan of Lovecraft...what more could any man want?
Ironically the one question she passed on is one of the few I knew the answer to having read The Color Out of Space. (considered Lovecraft's best work by many I think including himself)

I am in love!
Well done! Excellent stuff!
It's awesome.
Yeah, we totally got that
Thanks a Lot!!!
Such an entertaining watch
He is now working on a film called "At The Mountains of Unsold Tickets."
She and I will become great friends. Do you know how rare it is that Lovecraft gets this kind of attention? Awesome.
Skills people, skills!
At the premier of "Dagon" in Austin, Stuart Gordon said "At the Mountains of Madness" would be his next Lovecraft project...of course that was like 8 years ago.
by the way stephen king has written a cthulhu short story "crouch end"
Man, I've got some reading to do. The only questions I new, was the one with the answers "Shoggoth, and Call Of Cthulhu". Damn..
11 years later and I got all the answers ;)
I love her 💞
A girl into Lovecraft, I'm in love.
I pronounce it neither way, but in only two syllables - cthewl - hew. - running the 'cth' together to create an unnatural, alien sound. This is how Lovecraft himself said it, as he indicated in a letter he once wrote.

Question 1 answer was wrong

I think it's safe to say she knew it though.
Yeah, but quite obviously just a nervous start. Brain thinks Cthulhu Mythos, mouth blurts out words most often connected to Cthulhu, call off...
@@StefanTravis I always thought of it as related to the Greek, as in Chthonic.
Am I the only one who listens to this while I sleep? It sort of relax me.
Yes. Thank God I wasn't the only one. The mythos was known as 'The Cthulhu Mythos' - The Call of Cthulhu was a story which referenced Cthulhu and the Cthulhu Mythos.
answers questions on lovecraft then one on jason fucking donovan.
Actually it was changed so they didn't have to worry about copyright issues.
Laura Camp Bell is so beautiful and well spoken and so smart and loves to read Horror i'm in love!
She has given herself to the Deep Ones many times and gifted them with her children. She's gotten and given more and with a wider variety than any mortal woman should.
3:50 - 3:54
"I think there's something quite cathartic about being quite thoroughly freaked out."
I love that.
I have to say. She knows her mythos.👏
Laura Campbell I salute thee. Thanks for posting this. If I met a chick that knew this much about Lovecraft, I'd probably break down crying and dissolve in my own black oh so black tears.
hi
English is not my native laguague and I couldn't understand her answer when she won her 9 point; the question was what is the name of the old german musician who plays strange music on his...
omg,this girl owns!!!!!!!! o.O
very good!!!!! real mastermind
Pleased to say I knew they called it "Blasted Heath". But, she was quite impressive.
WHAT THE? awesome
are there any subtitles?
talk about Yog-Sothery!! and you are right!! and it was also Derelyth who changed the old ones and the other gods into "good gods" and "bad gods", something the old gent never intended to do! and watch out if that beef bus goes anywhere near Innesmouth!!
It is still published as "Under the Pyramids" in the Arkham House Editions.
definitely
She did very well, she knows her "lovecraft!"
Laura is a fantastic woman. I had the pleasure of knowing
her for a few years.
Unfortunatly we lost contact
when she went to uni. I would
love to get in contact with her
again.
Yes, yes he does.
i'm in love with her
A beauty.
The Musician is Called Erich Zann
Surely "Call of Cthulhu" should have been "Cthulhu mythos" or Yog-Sothothery?
She got point for saying under the pyramids because it was released in weird tales under that name but it was altered later on...
Because the same story has been published as "Under the Pyramids".
I love how the Miss Teen USA 2007 is under the suggested videos compared to this woman.
IAOOW!
I think I'm in love.
Oh I love her =~
Damn yo, she got a lot more than me and I've been a lovecraft fan of years. Just shows you some people are better on the hot seat.
the RUclips algorithm got me here.
@willowrhayne He was. Lovecraft explained it in a letter to close friend and correspondent Robert E. Howard in a letter.
I agree.
Does the host/quizmaster say "Necro-money-con" right before 2:00?
hp lovecraft is cool in a dark necronomicon way
@binarynightmare *raises hand* Female here. Like Lovecraft. This woman is attractive both mentally and physically
"I've selected 'Things Only I Know' as my category."
Laura was an old girlfriend of mine.
She insisted we run naked through the forest whenever there was a full moon, drink lots of absynthe, then cavort in the undergrowth until dawn.
Agreed.
If the dormant Zkauba facet should awaken and learn of this, she (or at least a part of her) will be on her way to Yuggoth (or was it Yaddith?) tomorrow in a shiny new Mi-Go brain cylinder.
Maybe he didn't, but every source on Lovecraft I've ever read mentions his cat. It even makes an appearance in "Rats in the Walls"
She should play the role of asenath in a 'the thing on the doorstep' (I think that's this one, sorry if I'm wrong) future adaptation.
Precisely! If you're referring to just Lovecraft's work, I call it a Yog-Sothothery, as that's what he named it himself. When you start throwing in non-canonical material in, then I call it the Cthulhu mythos. That's just me, though. I'm not a huge fan of any of the other mythos writers.

Now, why can't I meet a girl like this? Man, my luck never changes! ;)
what is the name?
She's very intelligent and somewhat sexy in a Queen of the Dead point of reference. While I think Lovecraft was a paranoid racist it cannot be argued that he was also suffering from a grave lack of social skills that influenced his writing. dream girl
The good kind fangirl👍
She's a dream.. I agree with bapth777 totally.
She reminded me of Dr. Who actress Lala Ward for a minute. Love that long hair.
From what I understand it's virtually impossible for a human to pronounce it the way Cthulhu himself or one of the beings associated with him would. We simply aren't built right for it. But ClunytheScourge1 is correct at least in part. It's a sort of guttural, alien sound.
missed this one when it was on. 10-15 years ago i would have got more than 8 correct there
@StevenLoos I agree. She is indeed a goddess.
holly hell ... :o
I know a bit of H.P.Lovecraft and got 7 of them
also ... I second the turn on thing, I'd love to meet this girl
PS: nice dress too
She knows her stuff, that's all I have to say. :)
He also wrote that it is an alien word that can't be pronounced in the english language or any other human language therefore it can be pronounced anyway you want.
Scholars pronounce it Cuh-Too-Loo, however it is known by most as Cuh-Thoo-Loo.
you need to attend gaming conventions like Orgins or GenCon. So many cuties there that love scifi and cthulhu it's mindboggleing
much merriment was had
I have chosen this female to bear my infernal spawn. The breeding must begin at once.
"The Blasted Heath" was a Shakespeare ref. Mutatis mutandis.
