Did you hear about one of the first experiments in computer translation? Taking the phrase "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak", translating it into Russian and back again, produced "The wine is agreeable, but the meat is spoiled."
I'm a college professor and teach Lovecraft in one of my classes, and a student shared your song with me. Absolutely brilliant! Then a few weeks ago I heard the Delilah song for the first time on the radio (yes, I'm behind the times), and was immediately annoyed that they had stolen the music from you. What nerve. May Shub-Niggurath take their unworthy souls!
This is just beautiful. I sing it to my two year old granddaughter as a lullaby, and she just looks up with the most adoring eyes and biggest smile, knowing she has a future she can depend on.
I sang this at a sports bar in Georgia and much to the owner's dismay a few patrons were offended...rule of thumb if you don't know who Lovecraft is or our dark Lord Cthulhu you are nowhere near nerd status
+Ray Smalley Just the fact that my song is being sung in a sports bar in Georgia makes me inordinately happy. I'm sorry some folk were offended, but I've long since adopted the position that nothing is so great that someone, somewhere won't hate it. :) Thanks!
+Ray Smalley any idea why would they be "offended"? it makes no sense. Edit: nvm i can sort of understand why they would if they dont know who cthulhu is
+Berserkarn This is one of my go-to drunken sing-along songs. Along with The End Of The 'Verse As We Know It. Because Lovecraft and Firefly rock just that much harder when you're drunk enough to sing in public.
I'm sure someone out there has a copy of this credited to Weird Al, which is arguably the highest form of compliment for a parody song. I've listened to it a half dozen times since stumbling upon it early this morning and can't help but sing along to the chorus.
It's so funny that I heard this parody before I ever heard the original, and now everytime I hear "Hey there Delilah" somewhere it just sounds WRONG! :D
I found out about this song in a mod for Stellaris that adds Lovecraftian monsters as playable races and some songs related to it. Whenever it starts playing I pause and move away from the Doomsday weapons and just listen. Absolutely beautiful dude.
I like the idea of pulling this one out at a gig during a break when no one's really paying attention _"Plain White Ts sure sang a lot more about Lovecraftian Horrors than I remember, anyway, you need another drink?"_
it was my pleasure listening to you and no unfortunately I'm not a police officer. I work in a prison...we are considered the bastard children of police lol
As someone who isn't that versed in Lovecraftian lore, this parody definitely made me laugh and taught me a few more things about Cthulhu. Heard someone sing this on a stream and went looking for it after it ended. I definitely need to look into the lore just from the things I've heard from friends and people online.
I used to be a lost soul following Cthulhu, until the day of my Epiphany, when a Christian posted, and I quote, "Do you worship a beetle or the Kraken Jesus people get your act together!" The scales fell from my eyes and I became a devout follower of our true Lord. Kraken Jesus. May He be my devourer.
It's from "Jabberwocky": "And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" He chortled in his joy.
A friend of mine showed me this video of yours a while back and I had a rough day today at work as a corrections officer and came home and watched it again. First time I've smiled all night, thank you.
Technically, this is a filk, not a cover, but thank you! :D You know, I've thought about doing the ringtone thing. I'll have to look into that some more.
This almost had me literally rolling on the floor. Absolutely brilliant - not just hilarious, but actually well-written which is more than one can say for most filks. Definitely sending this to pretty much everyone I know. Well done!
Damn you Cthulhu cultist! Damn you and your song who drown me into the sea of madness! I cannot stop hearing it regularly! Damn, damn, damn, again i join you singing this song over and over again!
got some weird looks at work this afternoon whilst singing this... Cthulhu will devour the souls of the unbelievers first and I cannot wait for that day :)
I have listened to this at least a couple of times a week for several years now. It's super funny and always makes people smile when you play it at parties. Thank you!
I just now came across this by accident, and I happen to be a fan both of Lovecraft and the song this was based off of. You are amazing, and I love it, and I'm going to sit here and memorize the lyrics so I can sing it like this now whenever that song comes on. Thank you xD
It´s been years now, that I STILL BURN THE REPLAY BUTTON ! You, my dear Sir, are a Genius. A great hug from Argentina, and all the Cthulhu Cultist from the South. Have a Happy new year, Mr. Brooks. I´ll make sure to include you in one of my Call of Chulhu RPG games. You just deserve it.
This song was WAAAY too much fun to listen to. I've been searching up some things on the internet to find when we'll have the next weird star alignment... Whenever that happens, I'm going to hold a Cthulhu party with some friends and sing some songs like this while roasting s'mores over a campfire. Fun times are to come! :D
I love this. I've easily listened to it a dozen times today, laughing my ass off the whole time. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO going to sing this next karaoke night that I go to. Thanks, this will bring months (possibly years) of entertainment.
This song keeps popping into my head at the most appropriate moments..love it to bits, never be able to listen to the original without these lyrics taking pride of place. Thank you.
I woke up at 5 am, came back to bed with my cup of coffee because it's freezing here and this song just popped into my head, so here I am. Maybe He will rise with the sun today, and I'll be here to witness it.
I CANT STOP PLAYING THIS OVER AND OVER !!! I´m a Cthulhu Fan, from Argentina, i made all my friends listen to this ! Really cool song ! Keep it up ! So when the stars are righttt ...
This song always warms my heart. I think it's the idea of a supersized immortal supply of calimari... I mean... Great Old One. *Hides his marinara sauce* Let the rituals commence! Honest!
I've listened to this about a thousand times and still I come back for more. And this is the one partysong I perform to my friends when I'm sufficiently inebriated :D Love you man!
I love it! I think your voice suits this altered song perfectly! That fast vibrato you do is great, not many people do that anymore and it's great to hear someone use it well again
i love this song more then i should i think, i can feel the glee swell inside me and cant help but have a twisted smile on my face every time i hear or remember this masterpiece.
"Cthulhu Fhtagn, what a wonderful phrase. Cthulhu Fhtagn, say it and you're crazed. It means Cthulhu rising out of the haze IT'S A PHROPECY, WE'LL ALL SOON SEE Cthulhu Fhtagn"

Good grief... I was told that one by my French language teach back in secondary school - like 1979. Never mentioned computers though...
Same
I heard it as "Out of sight, Out of mind" translated to "Invisible idiot."
I heard that "The Grapes of Wrath" was translated into Japanese as "The Angry Raisons"
Hot ^_^

@@ebenbrooks You are amazingly talented and funny , thank you for sharing this and for making people smile !
@@zeracaitiff5956 Thank you very much! :)

So, uh, how has she grown up? Dissecting live bodies yet?
@@mystic_spiderhave you listened to other lullabies? They are pretty dark
Has she started her fish ritual yet
Are you still out there? We need a progress update on how cthuluian child education plays out in the long run.
Has she gone through fish puberty yet?
The cleverness of the lyrics here is astounding. What talent. *applause*
Aww, thank you! :)

+Eben Brooks This song is bullshit. C'thulu would never hurt Hugh the Manatee.
+Ray Smalley any idea why would they be "offended"? it makes no sense.
Edit: nvm i can sort of understand why they would if they dont know who cthulhu is
+Ray Smalley They were offended because they knew that their god is weak and ours is strong.
@ Pwasma: Because they saw the similarity with their superstition and were insecure about it?
I know it's been 16 years but I'd love a "remastered" study recorded version of this song. I need this on spotify
This is my go-to shower song.
Hah! Awesome! :)

My pals and I have been using your music to annoy Toronto when we're drunk for years! Keep up the great work! :D

I found this rather twisted..
In a non-euclidean kind of way.
Heh. :) Thank you.

I'm disappointed it took me 12 years to find this masterpiece, fantastic job.
Took me 14 years, so I'm just pissed at this point haha
I can't quite remember when I found this song because I'm not in my right mind ;)

Bonus points for use of 'frabjous day' in a song, I couldn't help but chortle in my joy.
You mean it's not "fractious"? I've been singing it wrong from the start!
I just came across this. This is fucking wonderful
