She give the wrong answer to the first question, and he lets her have the point. The name of the mythos is the *Cthulhu Mythos*, and _not_ "The Call of Cthulhu", which is a short story that is part of the Mythos.
Ironically the one question she passed on is one of the few I knew the answer to having read The Color Out of Space. (considered Lovecraft's best work by many I think including himself)
+Gary Bradley I imagine it is because of the RPG but anyone with a minimal knowledge on Lovecraft knows they are (sadly) known as Cthulhu Mythos (should be Lovecraft Mythos, as luckily some experts are promoting now; hope they achieve it). BTW, one of the few coherent statements between the 2 letters where Lovecraft stated how should it be pronounced is that it was only two syllables, so it's Xúlu or similar, not the damn Ca-thoo-lhoo the RPG promoted.
I think the first phoneme of "Cthulu" - represented by "Cth" is the same as the sound in Welsh represeted by a double L, or the sound in Klingon represened by "tlh". I'd call it a voiceless retroflex lateral - position your tongue as if to say /l/, then draw it back so the tip is against the middle of the roof of your mouth. Now breathe around either side of the tongue, without vibrating the larynx. Though of course, it's only meant to be an approximation of a sound made by a non-human vocal tract.
He also wrote that it is an alien word that can't be pronounced in the english language or any other human language therefore it can be pronounced anyway you want.
Actually her pronunciation is closer to Lovecraft's than the popular pronunciation, which I assume is the one you use (and which I use as well). That version was popularized by the tabletop game. Lovecraft himself however was also inconsistent with the pronunciation in his letters, but did of course also stress that no human could actually pronounce the name as it was not created for human vocal apparatus in the first place.
Rarely built entire stories on them, though. Just passing references to cities and the odd god. Nothing nearly as major as adding to a mythos. I personally despise Derleth. Besides helping to keep the stories in circulation I thought he was a horrendous writer and distorted the original Lovecraft canon beyond all measure.
This is true. The Cthulhu mythos was written by loads of people so it kinda deviated away from Lovecraft's ideas somewhat. Having said that, some of Lovecraft's characters and locations were borrowed from earlier writers such as Bloch, Chambers and Derleth.
Precisely! If you're referring to just Lovecraft's work, I call it a Yog-Sothothery, as that's what he named it himself. When you start throwing in non-canonical material in, then I call it the Cthulhu mythos. That's just me, though. I'm not a huge fan of any of the other mythos writers.
Yes. Thank God I wasn't the only one. The mythos was known as 'The Cthulhu Mythos' - The Call of Cthulhu was a story which referenced Cthulhu and the Cthulhu Mythos.
If she was in her mid 20's here she will be in her early 40's now!
I love her 💞
Is she single?
I'd like to spend an entire night with her discussing Lovecraft.
She knows to much
I have to say. She knows her mythos.👏

Such an entertaining watch
She and I will become great friends. Do you know how rare it is that Lovecraft gets this kind of attention? Awesome.
Strange girl.....
Damn, she's really ugly!!!
H.P. would have loved this girl. Love the British accent.

Question 1 answer was wrong

I think it's safe to say she knew it though.
Yeah, but quite obviously just a nervous start. Brain thinks Cthulhu Mythos, mouth blurts out words most often connected to Cthulhu, call off...
@@StefanTravis I always thought of it as related to the Greek, as in Chthonic.
omg theres an eerie sound at 00:04 as she walks up, Deep ones in the audience?
wtf are you talking about, there's like complete silence
I hear it too damn
rare thing to see a pretty girl who likes lovecraft.
Same thing for the men :p
This girl is great, I would spend hours talking with her about the old Howard Phillips and his hideous works.
+Juan Borjas Well, you'd have more chances if you thought you'd spend hours listening to her.
Could be a tad monotropic, going on and on about the same thing, couldn't she. it's the syndrome you know. I forget which now.
She's hideous too.
Laura is an amazing woman. I knew her many years ago before she went to Uni.
Laura Camp Bell is so beautiful and well spoken and so smart and loves to read Horror i'm in love!
Very prim isn't she?
She's quite the encyclopedia, and displays about as much emotion.
A beauty.
dream girl
He also wrote that it is an alien word that can't be pronounced in the english language or any other human language therefore it can be pronounced anyway you want.
She's not a connoisseur,she can't say Cthulhu.
TheShinigamiInquisition Nobody can. Human lungs can't reproduce the sound.

Glad others noticed the first questions answer is quit wrong.

Oh, Derleth was prior to Lovecraft! Never thought about that, you are right.

I want her.
I find H.P. Lovecraft, relaxing.
You know once he ran out of game show questions he just started saying dumb shit.
Surely "Call of Cthulhu" should have been "Cthulhu mythos" or Yog-Sothothery?
I'm assuming most of these comments are by Americans. See what happens when don't see ignorance as a virtue.
hmm, my good twin i have found at last
