- Today I'm going to show you the easiest way to replace a cabin air filter in an F150. This video will cover most late model F150s. The process is simple and only requires minimal tools. A 7mm socket, a trim removal tool, and a new cabin air filter. In this video we will go step by step through the replacement of the cabin air filter.

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill Ford did a great job in designing this job to replace it.
Built Ford DUHf. 2 minute job turned into a headache. Thanks for helping me not break any clips on my dad's truck. You got a thumbs up from me.👍
That’s the worst feeling when you break a clip. Glad I could help!
ridiculous......why?
If this is tough then you need to stop trying to work on your stuff immediately. Lol it’s like 2 screws and a few tabs. 😂
This gave me the confidence to take this on myself and it went great. Thank you!
Glad to hear and glad I could help!
I put vaseline on all the clips when I put it back together, went back really smooth , Thanks, good video.
That’s a good tip
Thanks, excellent video. Took me literally less than 10 min to do it first time.
You are welcome!
Thanks, much appreciated and quite helpful - it literally took me 20 minutes!
Glad it helped!
Good video. Straight forward and to the point. I like it. Made the job super easy for me.
My airflow was poor and it increased greatly after replacing the cabin air filter. Great success! Thank you.
Glad to hear and thanks for the feedback!
Straight forward and easy to follow. Saved time and $$$'s versus having it done at the dealership.👍
Thanks for the feedback!
Not as easy as some I've changed, but not as hard as some also! Great info!👍
Thanks Mitch!
I feel this is something that is often overlooked. Thank you for the reminder.
Thanks Bar D Stables. Most come out looking like mine… or worse!
@@SmackeysGarage I have no doubt. Lol
Guys. DIY Dad stuff.
My son plays with Lego’s. The little orange device used to separate Lego’s and it is FREE with Lego’s and got the job done. You are welcome. Dad Proud. Good Luck folks.
Hey Gene, that's a great tip!
Thank you 👍🏻😊 very useful video.
Glad it was helpful!
@@SmackeysGarage 😊👍🏻🔥
You have to be kidding. It was easy to replace the cabin filter on my old Silverado. Not so easy on my F-150. It's a poor design to involve all these steps. This is not the only stupid design flaw that I have found on my F-150.
It’s definitely a lot of steps. Wait until you have to replace a headlight bulb!🤣
@@SmackeysGaragebulbs are a pain!
Wait until you change the oil
Will this help with ac not blowing max speed, my ac barely blows all of a sudden?
@kevinpearson9993 if the filter is completely clogged it could definitely cause a low airflow situation.
Thank you so much man!!! Great video. Very detailed and easy to follow.👍🏼
You are welcome! Thanks for the feedback!
Nice explaination have to do it to my pick up, its 40 thousand mile and had never replaced it 😮
Thanks! it isn't too bad to do. How did that filter look after 40k??
I'm now the proud own of some panel pullers, just to replace a filter. Lol oh well, they will come in handy in the future
That’s the good part of them. You feel less bad about ripping panels apart in the future lol. I’ve had them come in handy a few times.
Thank you. This was a helpful video.
Thank you for the video it helped alot.
That filter was totally hidden
You’re welcome!
Good video. I found that by adding just a touch of silicon spray to the tabs helps everything snap in much easier, and it helps for future removal as well. 👍🏻
Thanks Mike. That’s a great tip
He made that look easy! I got all but the ends of the plastic part undone and I am too scared to go any further till I understand more about these changes clips
You might be able to look the clips up on Tasca or get the part numbers and search for them. They definitely do feel like they are going to break sometimes when you are really pulling on them.
Air flow arrow points downward
Thanks man made that simple and cheap to replace 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Sir
You saved me a few bucks
😊
Glad I could help Hector!
Thank you; very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
thanks for this video very detailed
You are welcome!
Thank you for the video 👍. I dont know how the other brands do it, but Dam Ford, was there no way to make this faster/easier/less clips that will break? These trucks range from high 30s to 90k plus. And r work trucks many times. It should be easier/faster to do this job. These clips will get brittle and break just in time for replacement parts to become obsolete. Ill be doing mine soon
Yea it’s nuts. I just did one in our Audi and it was three thumb screws. Took five minutes and no tools. You are welcome!
Thanks for this video...
You are welcome!
On that piece that you pulled at (minute 2:11) have more that 2 tabs that you forgot to mention
Your vids stopped showing up in my feeds for some dumb reason. Hope your doing well, progress while slow is still coming along on my 69. Got some of the suspension done but it was too much chaos for video, gonna try later.
That’s weird. I am doing well. Looking forward to seeing the video when you get it up. It’s been a while since you’ve shown the car!
Excellent video, however, trying to remove the plastic that was screwed in, seems impossible. I pulled fairly hard, but I'm afraid of breaking it. What kind of tool was that you used?
That blue tools are linked in the description as a trim removal tool. I use them on lots of body pins on the truck. That panel definitely is clipped in really tight.
So I see Ford wants to be BMW in regards to making everything easy to maintain
That's funny. Even our Audi is easier to maintain than the truck.
I like simple tasks like this, next time do one for my Tundra! :)
Me too! After you see how to do it is very simple. Finding out how to do it without a video… not so easy!
This was stupid on my lariat, got done but after wood grain snaps in there's a gap in rubber peice between glove box. Everything is clipped just flimsy rubber doesn't sit right.
Yea... Worse on the lariat. I don't do mine as often because it is kind of a pain to get to.
Thank w
Now I'm curious if mine was ever changed, I had the full maintenance package from Ford and brought it in for all the regular services, but I don't recall if they ever had that listed as changed or not so now I have to go see, I bought the truck December 2020, it's a 2019, and my ac flat out stopped working, so I'm gonna get a recharge kit but should check this too
Definitely check it out. It’s pretty obvious if it has ever been changed. They do collect a lot of foreign materials.
And just like that. American engineers should be ashamed of themselves.
Where do ya get tool??
They are linked in the description
Almost as difficult as changing the air filter on the Honda Goldwing.
Haven't had to do that, but I'm assuming it isn't easy!
To remove the damper you need to pull it toward the glove box door THEN pull it out. He skips that part.
Thanks for calling that out. I didn’t say that while taking it apart but talked about putting it together. Nice catch.
Yeah I broke mine lol
That looks like a pain in the ass.
It wasn't too bad. Just a lot of work for a cabin air filter. My audi only had three thumbscrews though... lol
Trust Ford to make cabin filter replacement an actual mechanical repair.
Definitely needed more tools than I expected to take it out and replace it. Our Audi only has three thumbscrews holding it in.
All this for a goddamn cabin filter?????
Yep lol
Good grief. Have to take the Dash apart to replace a filter. The more I find out about my truck, the less I like it.
It's an awesome truck. There definitely are a few nuanced things like this and the headlight changing that are more work then I'd expect.
Is that other side cracked? LOL
Other side of?
@@SmackeysGarage the far side of the glove box where he's supposed to bend it
For something that should be changed that often that's bull$hit!
Sad. My wife's Edge is gravy compared to that nonsense.
That’s good to know. I have to do my sister in laws next.
Doesn’t match my 2018
What is different?
@@SmackeysGarage there is another piece of trim in front of the screws after you take the first piece of trim off. Maybe because it’s a lariat?
All those clips should be screws that grab onto something. Clips end up breaking. Thank you Ford for designing yet another component without any common sense-thought about simplicity. It seems the more college these car designers have, the more common sense they loose!
Jesus Christ man. Wth ford?
Thats about the most ridiculous thing ever. Took me about 15 minutes, but on most other cars it takes about 30 seconds.
Yep. I did my Audi recently and it took 30 seconds. Three thumb screws to pull the filter out.
Sheesh what a pain in the a$$
It wasn't too bad. Try changing the headlight bulb on this truck lol
@@SmackeysGarage I just finished doing that! I think I need an extra elbow that bends the other way in order to comfortably reach the top bulb...
That sounds about right!
I hate ford with all my fibers at this point. I swear never again in my life…
It really isn't that bad!
This is very easy especially on the XL trim. If this is too complicated for you, you probably shouldn't work on your own vehicle
Yea I agree. The lower trim models are definitely the easiest due to not having as much of the trim in the interior.
Way to announce youre poor😂
