  • This is HVAC conceptual video about the "Three-way valve of HVAC System" regarding the HVAC system valves which are commonly used in chilled/hot water loops at AHUs and FCUs with accessories. This video is in the Urdu/Hindi language. It is basic learning detailed information for new or fresh engineers or technical field persons. It is also important for HVAC / MEP technical staff to leaning points of view. Here sharing my experience and knowledge that will be helpful to learn & grow for Engineers & Technical staff.     Sir why we fitted three way divert valve in return line , not in supply line as like AHUs....

      DRV/2-way/3-way vales is used for control chilled water flow as per design requirements which is installed return pipeline.
      It is normally installed on return because of the following reasons:
      1. ASHRAE Recommendations.
      2. The coil of the unit should be flooded in case the valve is closed.
      3. With a control valve on the return side, the water is at a higher pressure through the coil, reducing off gas, thereby lowering dissolved oxygen content. Lower dissolved oxygen extends equipment life by minimizing the air entrapment.
      4. In coil return line, after AHU/FCU install two way or three way valve, afterward install DRV due to above reasons.

    Tannweer Sir , 3 way mixing valve is placed in return line and 3 way diverting line which is commonly used in HVAC is placed in Supply line ? is this right ?

      DRV valve finalized as per flow capacity of water. It will open 100% on full load and close as per demand of water.

    Sir why we install these 2 way ,3 way ,PICV & DRV in return line...???

      I have explained in videos. However, 2-way valve is used when chilled water no used or partial used in AHU/FCU then it operate and save energy. 3-way vale is same function but it also divert chilled water. PICV & DRV are used to provide required quantity of water in units as per load requirements.

    Actually how to answer simply in interview
    The Main Difference between 2 way Valve and 3 way Valve

      Both valves actuate through thermostat but 2 way valve resist the flow and 3 way valve divert the flow when temperature achieved. 2 way valve has two ports and three way valve has three ports.

    Constant pump chilled water system ,we can place 3-way valve in AHU cooling coil inlet ???
    If we place in that system what are the problems can fine

    Sir return grill bina duct work ke sidha ceiling me lga skta hu...FCU celing mounted hai.to return duct alag se dene ki jarurat h kya ?

      Both options are used and this depends on designer because calculation done accordingly

      Valves are used for maintenance point of view because some you have replaced or repaired then valves are used for on/off purpose. Without valve BTU meters can install but it is not good practice

    Why on earth would we choose to mix flow that's going back to the chiller, instead of mixing what's going into the FCU or AHU?

      Valve and pipes sizes remain almost same and some times valve size size small because valve select as per flow.

      Mostly BMS vendor supply these two and three way valves and select valves models according to flow and pressure requirements. Refer catalogue of any valve for this purpose
