Love your videos. I watched 2 of them and it gave me more information than I got in my nail tech class. This weekend I decided to practice the application of IBD dip and sculpt power. My instructor said to use nail glue as the base and after each dip. For the top coat use a gel top coat. I decided to take the product off tonight. OMG it was very difficult. It was gooey and I had to work quickly before it hardened back up again. After watching your videos I understand my problem.
I am puzzled - what is used as a base coat? I have seen Bond Aide, nail glue (which I won't do again) and the OPI set you demonstrated.

The OPI product is great quality so makes it easier to use. The OPI base is a resin so it is a type of nail glue. Using a good quality remover will also help to remove easily however dipping powder is pretty gooey to get off. Buffing thin first before you remove is a real life saver so don’t skip that step. Bond Aid is an optional step but will definitely help your nails last longer.

Hi Karen, glad I have helped you. 😊 Sure, make sure you buff well moving down the grits from rough to smooth, make sure all dust is gone and cleansed with isopropyl alcohol as well. Then apply activator well and allow to dry for 3-4 mins. Dry wipe the nail then make sure the first top coat is applied quickly with a light touch. When completely dry apply the second top coat. This should help to give you super shiny nails! I like using a steamer to remove. Much faster and easier than the foil method.

Jo Jo Nails Hi, thanks! Sure, I mean that the first base coat layer you need to do further away from the cuticle, leaving a small gap so that the second base coat goes closer to the cuticle and creates more of a taper rather than chunky product at the cuticle area which is harder to buff and doesn’t look as natural. Hi! Hope all is well on your end. Your videos are so helpful. I just did my first opi manicure myself. I noticed that there first two coats were great and thin. However when I applied my last coat with the sheer powder that made it much more Thicker. Any suggestions?
Hi Lina, thank you, so glad you find my videos helpful that’s what it’s all about.
As you apply more base coat over the top of the powder it’s a more absorbent surface so it takes more base and you can feel that you need more on your brush to cover so when you dip then more powder absorbs as more base is on the nail. Does that make sense? 😁
Don’t worry though as the thickness gives you the scope to buff to a smooth finish without loosing colour.

I have an issue with my top coat bottle. Clumps and I have tried to clean it with the cleanser but now it’s at the point where my brush can hardly fit into the bottle. Now I understand why my brush was getting hard from the activator.
Hi Diane Lennard, hmmm there comes a point when the brush just cannot be saved sometimes unfortunately. If it’s flexible still you could trim the bristles to make it easier to handle and get back into the bottle. Otherwise you will run the risk of getting product on the neck of the bottle and getting the lid stuck. Now you know how not to harden the brush then you should be able to look after the next bottle and you can use that brush for the remaining product you already have. Ok this is new to me. Why are you using this? The natural nails underneath look beautiful!
Thank you Barb 😊 I am my own model for my videos and it goes to show you that you can apply and remove the product correctly without damage. Even with good natural nails dipping powder gives me extra strength and long lasting colour when I need it. 😉

Hi Portia, Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed the videos 😁 If you are finding the nails too thick then apply the base coat nice and thin. You still want good coverage but keep the layers thin, however too thin is also not ideal. You should know if you are applying super thin or super thick and adjust accordingly. Usually when the product is too thin then the base will dry before the powder sticks to it. If too thick then it can bunch up on the nail when dipped in the powder. Also filing and buffing after the clear coat will contour the nail to a nice thickness too but you shouldn't need to take too much off as you don't want to interfere with the colour. Hi there! Are u able to use the OPI powder perfection powders as acrylic instead of dip?
Hi! No unfortunately you can’t. The technology is different so it won’t perform sufficiently with monomer as it’s designed to be used with the resins in the Powder Perfection system.😌
Wow! Quick question, whenever I do Dip powder nails with tips, it takes me about 2 and a half hours. How do I speed up the process! xx
Hi Kayla, 🤔 ok it shouldn’t take that long. Aim for about 1 hour once you’ve got your practice up. Your prep time should take 10-15mins so start with practicing that within that time frame. If you apply your powder tapered and one hand at a time up to the activator step then there isn’t any wasted wait time waiting for the activator to dry. Application up until the first activator should be max 20 mins so practice getting that step in the timing too. Then for buffing allow max 20 mins as well. If you have the correct buffers working down each grit grade then let the files do the work and each hand should be able to buff down in as little as 5 mins. If the application is tidy then less filing is needed which really helps to cut time down. Final top coat steps should be completed within 5 mins for each hand as well. I hope this breakdown helps you to improve on your time. Let me know how you go I’d be interested to find out if this helps you. Thanks 😊

Can you use the OPI dipping system with other brand activator/top coat?
It is possible to use other brands together but the results are unpredictiable so I don't recommend it. Thanks for watching 💕
Can you please do a removal of dipping powder on artificial tips
Hi, the removal would be the same. Buff down thin and wrap like in the video. The acetone will dissolve the tips the same as the dipping powder. Hope that helps you. 😌
Hi I have a constant problem with the top coat I am doing everything for the brush not to go hard but it does . I leave 5 minutes to dry the activator before applying the top coat, I’m cleaning the brush on a paper towel between each application but still getting hard .
Any suggestions please I need help with that problem .

Hi Monica, it’s so frustrating right! Are you dry wiping the nails making sure there is no puddling of activator in the cuticle. Other than that try making sure your first coat you are really floating the brush not touching the nail too much. Failing those things then I’ve heard of people who apply the activator then after a few minutes wash the hands. They tell me this still makes the top coat dry with no issues. Try these things and let me know how you get on.
You can also ditch the top coat and opt for a gel top coat instead! Just make sure if you do that you must use the gel base first as well. 😉

My brushes harden no matter how well I wipe them off after every nail, and I always dust the nails off well to. They will actually harden on the first layer, when the nail has nothing else on it. That shouldn't happen, the only thing on my nails to begin with is primer, I don't use tips or anything I use it for an overlay.

I’m unsure how I can help you fix this issue... I’m not sure why you would get hardening of the brush without exposure to the activator. Can I ask, are you using OPI products or a different brand? Also what is the primer you are using on the nail too? This may help me get to the bottom of why you are having this problem. Thanks for your question. 😊
That happens to me sometimes and I have found that that the heat from the light on my table will harden my brush. Sometimes happens with the gel polish too!
Hi Leona Carver, yes with gel polish if the light you are using to see is a UV or LED bulb then you can run into issues with your brush hardening while you’re using it. Also if the the room conditions are warm then the brush can get stickier quicker too.

Hi, the products used are all on OPI.com and are professional use only so you need to be a nail tech or beauty professional to be able to purchase. The Foil with pads are called the OPI Expert Touch Remover Wraps and they come in a roll. The OPI Powder Perfection Base Coat, Activator, Top coat and powders can also be found on OPI.com or find your local OPI distributor. Other OPI products used are Expert Touch Nail Wipes, Bond Aid, Edge files and Flex buffers. Many thanks for watching. ❤️
How do I stop 'flodding' my cuticles while still applying to the whole nail, if that makes sense?
Hi Nikki, always keep the brush away from the cuticle area by about 1mm. If you find you still get the product flooding into the cuticle then make sure you are pushing back the cuticle to move them out the way and get a tidy curve to work to. You can also practice pushing your brush towards the cuticle area slowly so the brush is moving the product in front of it if that makes sense, easing it towards the cuticle. Plus make sure you don’t overload your brush either so the product is easier to control. Let me know if these tips help you. 😊
Can you use an e-file to remove dip product?

Just be careful not to file too thin. If your application is good then there isn’t a lot of filing to do anyway. Thanks 😊
Can you do a video on how to fill them in vs take them off?
Hi shana, OPI don’t recommend you fill this product. Mainly because you can’t see any lifting that may have occurred so filling over the top can trap bacteria and risk fungal infections. I’ll add to my list of videos todo on this topic though as I know techs will fill regardless so I can help with what to look out for and consider. I have been getting dip powder nails since 2014 and finally took the step to try it at home. You video and "base,dip,base,dip,base,dip" had me rolling 🤣 but was in my head! My nails came out pretty damn good for my first try! Thanks
