Neil degrasse Tyson's Master Class is actually a good look at critical thinking and how to look at the world scientifically (that is to say, how to recognize bullshit). All the others I've seen are absolute fluff, completely useless beyond getting off to the sound of their voice. The fact that Tyler's falls under this same category doesn't shock me in the slightest.
If you wanna get noticed on twitch you have to be putting the best bits of your VOD into RUclips videos. There a lot more of a market for 10-15 minute videos with a lot of interaction and information. Some people just don’t want to watch dead air (idc what you say about how good they are, there is always dead air if they’re just one person)
I feel like he was actually trying to explain useful s*it that he himself doesn't understand (ninja). Like all that stuff about dying your hair and wearing a silly hat means nothing to becoming a well watched streamer it's literally just about making an identity and sticking to it because that's what your viewers watch you for.
I also highly recommend Super Eye Patch Wolf's similar video released on Twitch and RUclips Influencer courses. He digs deep, trying 6 or so of these classes ruclips.net/video/c3xSJuoUnN8/видео.html
Watching the drew gooden video really showed how hard it is to get noticed on twitch without other social medias backing you up. drew is already an incredibly popular creator and he only managed to get and maintain 1 viewer over a week.
Why would this person even try to kill a spider that's OUTDOORS? I understand if you don't want one in your house and don't feel up to catching and releasing it outside. But it's so bizarre to go outside and start a fire over a spider, when YOU are the one in IT'S home
Exactly. I see a spider outside and I'm like. Sorry for trespassing good sir! But if it's in my house I am within my rights to kill it. But not with fire that would be irresponsible.
I love Drew's video! It is so funny but also he goes in depth with a surprising level of relativity. He's such a level headed person and always manages to make me giggle out loud
If you loved his video, I'd also recommend SuperEyePatchWolf's video from a couple weeks ago on the same topic, though it's more broadly about influencer courses in general. Very entertaining and informative ruclips.net/video/c3xSJuoUnN8/видео.html
@@jiv3o275 Drew and Wolf are prob my fav “in depth essayists” on yt. Drew is legit hilarious while being surprisingly thorough, especially as a former Viner; while Wolf gets super deep in a subject while being entertaining with top tier editing skills.
Yes! Completely agree! I was so excited to see Drew in the thumbnail I knew exactly what the topic would be about bc I just finished his ninja video yesterday 😜 Also, with a shout-out by Phil, I hope more people find Drew's channel and get to enjoy him :) I feel like Drew's such an authentic guy!☺
lol when at the end of the video he said "so guys... how long does blue hair last" and I just went oh no drew... oh honey..... Blue never leaves your hair. Your hair is blue now until it grows out or you dye it brown again
It is 100% exploitative. Getting big as a streamer is so subjective and circumstantial that there really can’t be any sort of “masterclass” for getting there, and anyone who streams knows that. Ninja undoubtedly knows that. But, y’know, it’s unsurprising. He’s always been a pretty huge douchebag.
Well arguably, every Masterclass course is of these subjective careers in which luck is a great contributor. Celebrity chefs, celebrity actors, celebrity authors, etc. I'm not sure if it is, but it shouldn't be marketed as "how to become a succesful streamer" which would be exploitive, rather "how to stream" or "how to become a streamer" he's speaking, like all Masterclass "teachers", from experience and what can give you an edge on such a crowded environment as Twitch is. there's of course no guarantee attached in any career path.
I want to bring attention that Super Eyepatch Wolf did a whole 2 hour discussion of how Internet influencers use courses like ninjas master class as methods that prey on their viewers. I think his work should be acknowledged as well as Drew’s video cuz they’re both extremely well made and informative. Wolf’s video is very interesting and dives really deep on how these influencer instruction classes are not only disingenuous but can be very harmful to young viewers, like jake Paul’s audience
Bro they all do it... there isn't legislation in place controlling youtubers or streamers. It's literally company policies at this point. Until we have a good portion of atleast gen x in our governments we won't see much change.
Oh god, I just got flashbacks of Jake Paul's how to be an influencer "class" for a few years ago. Where he had like 4 videos & nothing else & basically scammed his entire fan base. Holy hell that was bad.
I feel like the main reason I've heard people call the Ninja class a scam is because for a single 30 day class, you're forced to buy a one time payment for a full year to masterclass. Admittedly I don't know if that's the case for every class on Masterclass but with a creator like Ninja with such a young and impressionable audience, it feels kinda predatory to me
Added to this, unless it's been changed, it was marketed as a class to build your presence. If it was "how to get started streaming" with tips about what to do if your audience builds, that would be much more acceptable. Suggesting a course will help build an audience is just...scammy.
Masterclass annoys me for that reason. They don't give you an option to pay monthly. You have to pay for a full year. They also refused to delete my account because of my country's privacy laws. However, I've only attended lessons by authors and they were highly highly highly valuable to me. But they were the only ones I wanted and I shouldn't have to pay for a full year. I wish they had a pay per class option.
OR, people just have a hate bner for Ninja and will pile on him for anything, as it usually happens with extremely successful people and hordes of irrelevant randoms on the internet trying to feel better about themselves by harassing said people
@@GM-vr4eb Sounds like people should just be calling Masterclass itself a scam then rather than Ninjas class, the class still seems like a minimal effort cash grab but the platform is the one enforcing the full years payment
Worth noting: most masterclasses are borderline scams, just surface level information across the board, they're always too condensed to learn anything and half of the time the "instructor" while accomplished isn't great at actually talking about their topic
Right? I tried one for tech and realized most of the info i could get from like 3 main vendor sites in that field. A lot of people do not know that companies that specialize at a product, usually write the book on it.
I took one by R.L. Stein and it was great. Clear and concise and every step was useful. I loved it. Some of the others were not so good. A lot of them just patting themselves on the back.
Scam: a dishonest scheme, a fraud. Where's the lie? They tell you what you're paying for and how much it is. If you have your own expectations or are disappointed, that's fine, but it doesn't make it a scam.
I'm kinda sad that we're still equating home water use to "hurting the planet". Most of that water gets filtered, cleaned up and put back into the system. Compare that to the huge water use in industrial and agricultural sectors where that water gets used up and doesn't reenter the system. It's time we stop pinning down on households for this issue.
@@mage1439 ope and look, someone else completely missed the point 💀 babe the corporations create 70% of pollution and consistently spill oil into our clean water… but yeah, keep eating up the corporate propaganda that individual people are the problem & not corporations and the governments that both prioritize their bottom line over everything else, even “will this make the planet unliveable?”
Its also worth noting some bottled water that ends up in our sealed landfills from various means. And the places and companies that use deep well waste water injection to dispose of their waste water, instead of properly treating/cleaning it.
Just a quick psa for everyone: spiders are mostly good and harmless. You can simply relocate spiders from your personal space calmly and let them live their spider lives elsewhere. If you must murder a spider though, please use your relative massiveness and press it into a surface. You do not need to act out the climax of the movie aracniphobia and kill it with fire. Wtf. Thank you.
{Admitting up front that some of this is comedic effort} I DO try... As a guy who has invested a significant chunk of his adult life to RESCUING reptiles, especially snakes, from humans, I try really hard... BUT there's just something about a spider "suddenly appearing" ON me... I can't manage it. I freak RIGHT THE F*** OUT just about every time... AND usually to the extent of the spider's demise. AND it's worth admitting that it's probably ENTIRELY due to the complete inability to think in the middle of a "Total freak out session" that I can't manage to get my hands to even contain or control a lighter (or any fire source) let alone actually create fire with it... Instead, I'm trapped in a deathly "vicious spiral" of flailing around and screaming infamous insults, profanities, obscenities, and a shit-show fountain of horrible linguistics while apparently attempting to beat either the spider, myself, or even possibly BOTH OF US literally to death... Maybe some 20 minutes after having noticed the little bastard(s)... I might be able to calm back down and even contemplate the efficacy of "Killing it with fire"... BUT ONLY AFTER I've pretty much lost the ability to keep screaming and crying like an 8 year old girl with a skint knee. For better or worse... I am sorry to spiders and spider lovers everywhere... JUST LIKE YOU! Weirdly (or whatever)... I only actually "completely freak the f*** out" when the spider is suddenly notice ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY ON MY PERSON... Anywhere else, I'm good with it... AND no, it doesn't matter if I'm in Australia or not... Been to Sydney for their famous (infamous?) variety... Had no trouble at all... ;o)
Spiders do have the audacity to go into my house and try to kill me. Yeah, i'm serious, every time i see a spider, I swear to god, it has a knife and a look of someone who's about to murder the shit out of me. It's war, baby
Man as someone who watches Phil's videos every day/who also is Guy, I squealed a little bit seeing Blue hair Drew in Phil's thumbnail lol, almost as good and slightly surreal as seeing he had a Wired video
Ninjas masterclass examples just show what most people know for years : “Be somehow entertaining and get insanely lucky.” . There is no actuall skill to be taught. You can have blue hair AND play fortnite AND be funny and yet not be famous… ever.
He didn't even accurately explain why he got famous and dropped off, there are free video essays on RUclips that do a better job than he does at explaining streaming and success.
Man, I only recently started watching Drew's video, but they're so good. I really like his critical videos because he's great at giving honest, clear feedback that doesn't punch down. He's also good at saying what things could be good about a sub-par product
The pro and the con is that he's obnoxiously average and has very little defining features or passions. So wide appeal but...ya know...how do you find content to talk about.
Can I just say I am so flipping proud of how much Phil has grown as a person. Like I've been watching him since almost the beginning. He has evolved and learned so much. Well done phil you will always be my BAMF.
When I was trying to get into documentary filmmaking, I watched Ken Burns's MasterClass. It was super helpful. Most other MCs that I watched were sort of like Ninja's, in that they were like "Look at this cool shit I did 20 years ago. Good luck doing something like that."
The thing with ninja is that he was already famous in the esports space. He's not a good streamer to teach a masterclass to normal people, because the path from "esports pro with fans and brand deals" to most popular streamer is different than that from a nobody to streamer. You have to buy things yourself, which you can work for, but you also have to get good, and that's pretty much impossible for a lot of people.
You can teach people generic stuff based on your own personal experience like what starter kit you've found to work best but you cant tell people to follow your experience which is almost impossible to replicate like collabing with celebrities or winning a major event. Toast for example put out a lot of knowledge bombs of becoming a streamer based on his experience and all of it are generic i.e. applicable to everyone.
Watch the video by supereyepatchwolf on this, he did an amazing 2 hour video that covers these types of scams from people trying to sell success and he specifically goes after ninja who has done multiple "get successful on youtube/twitch" courses.
@@AtomicLegion the sad thing people say the same thing on every video, and no it doesn't help these days! x) Becoming big on Twitch or RUclips will take forever to get to..
Quick couple of recommendations for you Phil, though I've always heard it called tabletop games and not hobby games: 1. Betrayal at House on the Hill, a game where you go into a haunted house that procedurally generates as you explore, with various scenarios to play through, and in each one, something happens that changes how the game is played, because one of the players switches teams and betrays everyone. What that looks like is different every time, sometimes they're secretly a serial killer, sometimes they're dead because they summoned an eldritch abomination and are now playing as the eldritch abomination. The betrayer then hunts down the survivors, often while invisible to the survivor team, while the survivors may simply have to escape the mansion, or find and destroy the necronomicon to banish the eldritch abomination and save humankind from the end of the world, as the scenario demands. I love it because it's a different game with a different feel each time. 2. Trial by Trolley, a game about the classic trolley dilemma, you know where a trolley drives down a track, and there are people on both tracks and the trolley driver has to decide who they run over? That trolley dilemma, but it's a game, so obviously dark humor abounds. There are two tracks, two teams each are debating and trying to convince the trolley driver to not run over their track and to run over the other track. Each team gets to choose a "bad person" card to play on their opponents track (Hitler, the 1%, the people who invented microtransactions), a "good person" card to play on their own track (an injured puppy, a class of kindergartners, every remaining member of some beloved endangered species), and a modifier card that adds a detail about one of the people on the track that could change how you think about them (they go on to cure cancer if they live, or start WWIII, or they'll grant you a wish if you let them live). Once all cards are played the debate begins, and once both sides make their case, the driver passes judgement. Your side gets run over, they lose. It's a really funny game. Great party game, if you're partying with the right people.
I haven’t watched Drew’s video yet, it been sitting in my watch later list since he published it. Drew’s videos are biting and incisive but he’s also very reasonable and clearly casts the same critical eye over his own videos to keep himself in check and not just devolve into being mean for the sake of entertainment.
Honestly, I wouldn't recognize Ninja without his colored hair, so it does prove the recognition point. Problem is: I still don't care who he is other than being a recognizable person of "interest". And it's a marketing ploy so obvious that it doesn't require a MasterClass.
I've had blue hair for like 8 years, and it didn't do shit for my popularity or streaming success, so I give this tip 0 points for helpfulness, 100 points for having cool ass hair
I agree. Maybe ninja didnt say it well but the take away I got was to make yourself different and recognizable so ppl will click. When u look at a lot of top streamers, they have iconic looks. But of course it's not as simple as just dye ur hair blue haha
The guy was a no life gamer that was decent and then clearly was cheating. He stole a popular name from a stealth killer in pubg and rode his search results lol. Then he needed to be recognisable. So he dyed his hair blue. Its not hard. It's just whether you want to do those things and be that person.
I recently spent about two hours watching two videos talking about the correct way to use dishwashers effectively! It was amazing and eye opening, it was by a channel called technology connections. Well made, entertaining, and very informative.
Preach it louder. I flipping love that channel for the weird and common stuff he can dismantel and teach on. I also use prewash for my dishwasher now to help it work better 👌 and f$ck washer pods. 😆
In my opinion, it comes down to how you define a scam. I believe that if you get nothing in proportion to the money/effort/time put into something its a scam, so to me the masterclass from Ninja would be a scam to me, because he doesn't really give any new information or unique perspective, you can literally look up all the stuff he talks about on google, and you'd likely get more clear instructions. It's not the same as say subscribing on twitch, where you're still paying money, but you actually get something of value out of that transaction. Your definition of scam may be different, or your threshold for calling something a scam maybe different, but hey, that's what nuance is about, am I right?
You definitely agree? Have you ever looked up the damn definition? Or just because Philly says you pop up mouth open ready to hoover some nuts. It doesn't make sense. A scam defined. A deceptive scheme used to trick someone out of something, usually money. So if the masterclass is not capable of doing what he states. That's deceptive, right? When you misrepresent the value of something or how much something will actually benefit you? The reason Ninja is doing? Well, it's not being done for free nor does it look like they care about quality. So sure change whatever you want to call a scam just know you are an idiot if you think these fake unhelpful deceptive classes are anything but scams. The definition of scam also disagrees. PeOpLe So SmaWt nOw DaYs
Exactly, I see people review products and they usually use the word "scam" somewhere in the title, it really lessens the impact of the word because most of the time it isnt a scam, just a poorly executed idea
Regarding the Ninja masterclass, I'm reminded of a saying (that I'll probably proceed to butcher): if you want to be an Olympic swimmer, you don't want your coach to be a gold medalist, you want your coach to be the one who coached the gold medalist. Some people are lucky, some people are talented. You cannot simply clone someone's success. If you're gonna learn from someone, look for someone who can actually teach, not just from someone who does a thing well.
The red flag for me was that Ninja apparently kept mentioning his blue hair instead of classifiying it as an identifiable feature which would lead into memorability...
@@dustrose8101 We only saw a snippet, so maybe he does talk about it, idk. The point of my comment is that not everyone who is good at something, not even if they're the best at something, is also good at communicating why they're good at it in a way that's useful.
"People are more sensitive now than X years ago" is always such a weird argument. Yeah, it used to be acceptable to be openly anti-Semitic and racist in like the 40's. Y'know, based on those characteristics we're born with and can't change? The grownups agree that we should leave that behavior in the past.
Of course it's a "weird argument". Because we're living in a weird world now. Thanks to the "pc culture" from the 90s that got highjacked by morons from the 2010s. The word shouldn't be "sensitive". It should be "imbecilic". People, which ever side they on, especially the ones online, are not being sensitive. They're being imbeciles. And don't use the social norms of people from specific sets of western country almost a century ago. Make your argument at least close to our time line.
grownups should also agree that this is the internet... where half the population is openly misogynistic and racist and there's literally nothing you can do about it at the end of the day more people know her name and will support her, that's just how this works
@@jesusbarrera6916 The "victims" should either learn how to put their abusers in their place, and not whine about it online. Or, learn to play along(not being passive) with online abuse.
@@jesusbarrera6916 Yea... why ask people to stop or make them feel like if they are so openly misogynistic and racist the majority isn't going to think its as funny as they do and instead they'll be put down? Even though apparently bringing attentions to it and denouncing it has people complaining they *can't* say those things anymore (like in the tweet in the video this comment refers to). Instead she should be grateful that people who want to make fun of her know her name. ...Even though she herself is openly not okay with it and clearly isn't celebrating her new potential viewers... might have something to do with her already one of the fastest growing streamers for her skill and not needing to be put down to maybe get some more viewership. Why strive for better when you can just accept bad actions and be grateful for the attention? Thanks for putting that into perspective.
I audibly barked and clapped for a solid 10 seconds when you quoted the 'double kill botlane' tweet. I knew what the reference would be straight from the setup. Thanks Phil for keeping in the deep cuts.
The whole Masterclass thing is so bizarre. I don’t know how the production and development side comes together, whether masterclass and creators work together to form a guidebook on what they will go over, or if that aspect is solely on the creator side. Either way, that class looks like it had zero effort put into it, by both parties. It makes Ninja sound like he has no idea how he got popular and just rode his success as long as he could.
That's because he actually doesn't know how he got popular. And how could he. There were hundreds of others doing the exact same thing as him who didn't got popular. He simply got lucky doing exactly the right things at the right time, something you can't really plan for.
There is nothing wrong about Ninja having absolutely no idea how he got famous. This is media influencers in a nutshell. It's a combination of media savviness, hard work, and lucky positioning. Framing it as a science and as a guaranteed formula without acknowledging the luck part is the part that should raise some eyebrows.
Hey Phil, you should give D&D a chance. It's not really a hobby board game, but I consider it more of a collaborative adventure game. It's actually something that you can include your kids and wife to go on adventures together with miniatures or theater of the mind. Give it a shot.
What do you mean it's not a hobby board game? It definitely is a hobby board game but can also be played without. Plus it's fun painting the miniatures too
As someone who paid for (and completed) the "Neil Gaiman" (Novel Writer) Masterclass, I can attest that there ARE very good Masterclass options. In Neil's Masterclass you get a nice 1 on 1 feel, personal anecdotes into his professional and personal life, amazing tips on multiple forms of storytelling be it Full-length Novels, Short Stories, Comic Books/Graphic Novels. Neil will also leave you with homework from most of his Lessons that help you implement the exact lesson he just explained in great detail. Don't let Ninja steer you away from Masterclass, just do your research beforehand, like most things in life.
Yea especially comparing those two, you just know whose capable of conveying the knowledge they do have. It doesn't matter how much ninja knows and can implement in his own job, there's no point of being a part of the masterclass if it's not something he's capable of conveying/teaching. I don't know much about Ninja but he isn't there yet in his career. And I like Jacksepticeye, he's definitely way more down to earth and aware right now, but I think I still wouldn't say he's at that point in his life and awareness that he could teach a class that would be valuable enough to be a part of a site like that. Its not that he doesn't know his trade really well, just that he hasn't really gotten to that point, nor has picked up the skill/charisma at a young enough age to apply it. Like Taika Watitti? Yes, you could tell by his old TedTalk that he knows how to lead people's minds to understanding his own thought process and why somethings funny or why he would do something a certain way. Ninja might never have that, Neil has had that capability for a long while now, I don't know if he's always been able to (I'm too young to know), but so far in Ninjas career and abilities, he's too "young" to be able to deliver that information in a way you can understand and apply to your own skills. I'd guess there's a lot there that just by listening to Internet celebs talking about how they work and observing different people's content and posting schedules and social media's you can use your own conjecture on how to run your own streaming/RUclips channel. I learned (but did not apply it) a lot about posting drawings on DA when I was a teen and following trends like drawing popular characters of the time. Not much has changed there. It's just evolved. If I wanted a masterclass I'd want to know things that an observer of the medium couldn't figure out themselves.
@@frostfang1 Yeah I completely agree about the BIG importance of having the ability to effectively convey your knowledge/thought-process to the average consumer, which Neil Gaiman nails. In his Masterclass I constantly felt like he'd be a brilliant English Language Arts Teacher and/or Professor. Highly recommend his Class if you enjoy basically any medium of Storytelling.
A few hobby games I would highly recommend: Moonrakers, Root, Oath, Blood on the Clocktower, and Wavelength. The first three are what I would consider medium level games-definitely more advanced, but not over the top. The last two are great for groups/parties.
Ninja’s Masterclass is a… well, master class in being absorbed into your own ego and thinking “If all this worked for me, it’ll work with everyone!” If I’m paying for a full year of Masterclass just for Ninja’s videos, I would absolutely feel ripped off for how sloppy everything was explained and presented. There’s no shame in boasting about some of your accomplishments for a tutorial, but I feel like that’s all he does
Thank you for saying that about people claiming they’re MW2 “veterans” or something, it’s such an annoying thing to hear people be so dismissive about stuff because they “wouldn’t last in an MW2 lobby”
God I love when Phil goes tf in - but also as a female gamer who dabbled in streaming for a time - it gets tiring having to fight just to find a calm space to game with out being harassed or being made to prove some kind of entry requirements. In terms of hobby games DND ALL THE WAY!!! IM running two campaigns currently and I love it and Im a player in a vampire the masqurade game!! I highly recommend them!
95% of the gamers that harass and set a high bar for video games suck at video games. They could get smoked by a girl and somehow blame the girl anyways. Insecure young men who've got no social interactions outside a CoD lobby. That's why they compare everything to a CoD lobby, because that's the only place they've ever talked to another person.
I love DND but it's difficult to just jump in. You need at least one veteran to act as the DM. I'm in a group with all veteran players and it took my quite some time to get up to speed. But if you can find a group then it is great fun.
@@titusorelius9458 There's TONS of online communities. I recommend the youtube channel SuperGeek Mike. He has a lot of helpful videos on the topic and has a Discord filling with people looking for groups (new and old players) :) Hope you find an awesome group! It's a really great game ^^
For board games, I recommend Betrayal at House on the Hill. Each time you play it is likely to be extremely different with an impressive amount of mechanical diversity between different scenarios. For D&D alternatives, I recommend the Shadow of the Demon Lord system. Is it balanced? Absolutely not, but the class building and general combat systems are criminally underappreciated and has become the go to system of choice for most of my rpg friend groups.
I know it's a common joke that when you see a spider "KILL IT WITH FIRE" but come on. People are so mind-bogglingly stupid sometimes it makes me wonder how we ever survived this long as a species.
Any time I see people scream about how the world has gone soft, it is ENTIRELY in the context of "Why won't everyone let me be a complete asshole anymore?!"
It's ironic that some of the people crying about the world not accenting their fuckery are the same people crying when someone attacks them in the same way. This is why we can't grow as a people and why we will always be behind until the minorities become the majority.
Well, there's also the enormous hypocrisy. Everyone *else* is soft and their feelings too easily hurt, but we can't talk honestly about slavery or systemic racism because it makes white people feel bad.
Yeah, there's a few children like that. Most of us know the country's gone soft, and those of us who do just stick to our circles of "assholes," as you call us. We tend to prefer the term "moderates," however.
It’s hilarious that Ninja doesn’t seem to have any understanding of what actually brought him such success. Would assume a lot of that is timing, luck, and physical appearance. No doubt it took hard work and long hours, but what’s the actual thing that made Ninja popular?
If you watch Drew Gooden's video, he points out that back when the game Fortnite was new and just getting attention, Ninja was the best player of the game. As long as Fortnite was gaining attention and popularity, Ninja was also gaining the same.. Especially since Ninja received recognition by the actual game developers. Ninja even openly brags in his Master Class about his fame in the game and having a skin made in his image in the game, And yet he fails to offer any insight at all that when Drew specifically took on Forrnite to be his main game he played on a new Twitch account following Ninja's advice only, Drew only ever got 3 people to interact at all in all the streams he did, which included a 24 hour stream. Yikes.
Call of Shame, a RUclips channel revolved around "exposing" cheaters in Call of Duty Warzone, just dropped a video on Nadia. I watched it and honestly he does raise some eyebrows.
She’s definitely cheating. She dropped 40+ kills hitting nothing but lower torso shots. She is a great player probably 2.3-3kd legit, but cheating to be “the best female player.”
Nadia - I'm an old gamer and 10-15 years ago being a recognised female in any adult game (so not club penguin) meant that you regularly received rape and doxxing threats if you were any good or bad and told to go and make them a sandwich. Guys also got threatened with violence but there was a level of venom when it was directed at females where it generally wasn't at the males. I stopped playing any games online that required teams or mics because of that for a very long time. These days if I play multiplayer for any reason my mic is mysteriously broken and unfortunately I don't team up with people I don't know. Can't see it's changed much honestly.
I'm not much of a competitive gamer (I prefer world-building and storytelling over simulated warfare) but I've seen my sister and bil run some really impressive raids over the years, and I legit believe a lot of their success comes down to not allowing the more toxic language/threats to stand -- you get a warning, then (no matter who you are) if you persist in being a jerk, you get booted. And the end result is that everyone's focused on the game. It's really something to see them in their element. Not only are they amazing players (and I'm not the only one who thinks so, I've seen them get kudos from truly world-class players) they're genuinely good people. This is the standard I compare other standout gamers to, and it's sad that it's considered a high bar. It should be a baseline.
So I don't play shooters, but at the very least outside of shooters. A LOT of that has died down. Because even in text if you corrected someone back 10-20 years ago that you were a woman. Yeah it got pretty nasty. But all of those toxic people had one thing in common, they generally were not very good or useful to guilds. And many guys in leadership roles would be pretty quick to boot people like that. And that was still about 10 years ago. Most stable guilds enjoyed having a diverse group of competent adults, and had 0 qualms with female leadership either. Now mind you that was in a pretty competitive scene for MMO's as far as PVP and raid's went. Women were welcome and treated with as much respect as the guys. Did we talk shit to eachother? Abso-fucking-lutely! xD And yeah we sometimes made gendered joke's about the other. (Both the guys towards the girls and girls towards the guys). But it's really a world of difference when something is genuinely done in jest with friends. And some piece of shit who thinks less of you because you're a woman. These days. It's fairy rare to find that kind of toxicity in MMO's. It DOES still exist, but it's few and far between. But we've been beating those guys into a bloody pulp for awhile now =D
This is not exclusive to women... I have been threatened in every way possible. Just ignore it. Mute them and move on. It's so ba when I've heard female gamers in overwatch, warzone that no-one cared about. We played games and that's it.
It irks me when people say that the world got soft because, the reality is that the world has just gotten kinder and more understanding. And only a mean person would see that as a negative thing and complain that the world will no longer tolerates their behavior. Or they are someone who believe they are superior for being jerks because the internet told them so.
Hahaha you need to read a history book because if everybody thought like you China would already own the United States. Nothing happens in a vacuum, too kind and too understanding long term is a DEATH SENTENCE!
I don't like it because I am a very sensitive person, and only now am treated well. I'm 23, I have cried myself to sleep and wanted to die because of how people talked to me. and now everyone's all sweet even though the damage is done. most of the people who complain about the world becoming soft are usually really fucking sad/conflicted. or just super out of touch.
@@MAKD88 My boy if you don't think China owns the US anyway I've got some terrible news for ya. Turns out, how 'kind' you act doesn't change the fact China has the largest share of the world's industrial output by a country mile.
Nah, the world has gone soft. That's why there's a mental health crisis. The world hasn't gotten any kinder or more understanding, that's just a front people & corporations put on so they don't get bullied themselves. When they're not under the microscope, when they're in the private domain of their inner friends circle or the voting booth or whatever, the real person comes out. "world no longer tolerates it" - lol, what you mean is that bullies on twitter will bully bullies just as bad. That's not real life. The world tolerates it just fine, because it's no different. There's only the threat of public backlash now - which comes from a vocal minority.
Those two ideas are not exclusive or related. The things said in a cod lobby were never ok, they were always seen as monstrously cruel, the difference is that people didn't whinge about it nearly as much - they pushed it out of their mind once they left the lobby so as not to dwell on the negativity. That is not what is happening with 'the Nadia part'.
@@BruceNJeffAreMyFlies Women have been speaking out about misogyny since the beginning of time, you just chose not to listen. It's not "whinging," it's us being sick of your shit.
It was a joke, jokes are not okay in society? I swear a couple years back Phil was laughing at the Dave Chapelle special where Dave makes a joke about a man who rapes women in his free time. That joke is okay but a 5 sec tiktok vid that is obviously just stereotypical banter is no? Phil is being a hypocrite and infantilizing women. I hope more women recognize that getting emotional over stupid jokes like this are actually harming more so than helping their cause!
I love when people constantly bring up CoD lobbies as if that's almost the standard we should hold ourselves to. So long as we don't pass people screaming threats and yelling the N word at each other, then it's all fine. If you think something is offensive, well look at a CoD lobby. It's a stupid easy to excuse any bad behavior by just saying "It could be worse.". I mean Jim Crow was bad and all but slavery was worse. The world isn't getting overly sensitive, it's just done putting up with this stupid shit. If you want the world to be a CoD lobby then go live in one and keep all your bullshit in there.

Thank you as always Phil for your great news coverage! 😊 - Catan - Splendor - Ticket to Ride - Takenoko - Sushi Party - Trash Pandas - Love Letter - Pandemic - Parks - Wingspan - Rhino Hero - Exit the Game - Gloom Card Game - Betrayal - Risk - Spyfall - Mansions of Madness
@Khris Middleton While the roll of the dice is luck based, it is a highly strategic game. The currency system is the resources, and the whole point is that you have to try to use what you have to get ahead. I personally like it because of the dice rolling randomizing which resources are given, it changes the difficulty level itself. Plus even without additions, you can practically mix up the board any way you can. Everyone likes what they like, and you can probably tell that I really like Catan 😂 Out of curiosity have you ever played it before? Edit: there are also 5 resources
As a female gamer myself, I use to be in a gaming clan and was respected by many of the male players but on occasion we would get someone who would be disrespectful usually the male players would stand up for me in one way or another. For example, I was teaching a raid to some new players with a few veterans in the group with me. One of the guys was flirting by making tons of lewd jokes my way and asking me questions that were uncomfortable. I was polite and cracked jokes back but could tell it was ruining the moral of the group in the raid. Eventually he left to go to bed and the others which were all male stated they were glad he left because they were getting tired of his flirting and disrespect. They all commented that if he had continued for much longer they would have told him off. Many of them messaged my boyfriend at the time that we all played with as well, and told him about it. They all then set up a plan to keep me from being left alone in voice chats with the guy and to make sure I was comfortable while he was around. If he was making me uncomfortable they would tell him to behave, and if he didn't listen they would remove him from voice chats. It was greatly appreciated.

In terms of hobby games, my personal favorite is probably betrayal at house on the hill. It’s a multiplayer board game about exploring a mansion. No two games are the same, everyone works together until a player is selected halfway through to betray the others and the entire games shifts on its head. I’ve played it dozens of times and never gotten the same story twice, and it also scratches that mystery niche well. There’s a bunch of other games my friends love, but this one is a standout for me

As an aerospace engineering student, the masterclass from astronaut Chris Hadfield was great. I already knew a lot of the math-based stuff involved but the lifestyle and career info was very useful and entertaining.
That guy is so great. I see him all over NASA/ISS social media and in various youtube clips, and I'm no expert and can't tell you much about him or his career, but I recognize his name and immediately know "Oh yeah that dude's one of the best presenters in space edutainment right now". Very cool that he's got a masterclass out there for people more interested in the space space (ha) than I am!
DnD is always fun, unstable unicorns, kittens in a blender are great, and then the Forbidden Island/Desert/Sky games are each great teamwork games that get progressively more difficult

i think the 'scam' part comes from it being a clear cash grab that he clearly didn't put any time or effort into developing, just a pure cash grab. I get your point thats not a 'scam' in the sense it's illegal, but its a 'scam' in the sense that it was a rip off.
It's not a rip off because it still provides value. If you go there with no knowledge of how to be a streamer and then you leave with some knowledge then you got value for what you paid. As long as what is advertised is sold then it cannot be a rip off!

Board games I would suggest depends on many factors, like the crowd (ex.: how familiar they are with board games), time constraints, group size, etc. But here are some that I found nice or that I heard of. Party games: * Decrypto (a kinda better version of Codename as it involves more interaction with teammates and the other team) * Deception: Murder in Hong Kong (a combination of Codename and secret identity genre, which is really nice and it's still ok if you're not good a bluffing, you may be ousted but still go on) * One Night Ultimate Werewolf (can be very fun with the right crowd, or bad with the wrong crowd) * The Resistance: Avalon (a more intricate version of secret identity games in general) * Sushi Go Party * Dixit (kinda like Codename and Decrypto without teams, but with pictures; you have to be obvious but not too much) * Codename Strategy/other * Terraforming Mars (lengthy but there's a lot going on to win which keeps your brain active) * 7 Wonders Duel (very cool 2 player games because you do feel the tension against the other player at key moments) * Azul (there's not a strong theme, but it's pretty fun cause you can f*ck people over, and it's good for family too) * MicroMacro (it's just a really fun version of Where's Waldo with deduction) Other that I think could be worthy of looking up to in, or to try at least once: * Just One * Wavelength * Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza (lots of laugh at first) * Night of the Ninja * We're Not Really Strangers (not really a board game, but to create deeper connection) * Mysterium * Celestia (some games are funny when people get unlucky, some a bit boring, confusing at first) * Insider (the scoring system doesn't really make sense to me, it's more fun just trying to win) * Pandemic (not the legacy ones because it's not replayable) * Dutch Blitz (very stressful in a good way, kind of a multiplayer Solitaire where you have to put number in order as quickly as you can) * Wingspan (heard a lot of good stuff about it) * Strip Poker???
I'll 2nd Wingspan. It's like the antithesis of Monopoly. It's competitive, but in a very friendly and relaxing way. I always have a great time playing wingspan win or lose and it's such a visually, and cognitively stimulating game. A must play for sure.
I’ll include the games : Secret Hitler - similar to the werewolf game but slightly more team based. Politically themed where the group gets divided into two groups, Liberals and Fascists, with one person playing as hitler. The Fascists know who belongs to which faction ( including Hitler), but the Liberals and Hitler don’t. The Fascists then work together to get the Liberals to not trust each other, and to get enough of their laws passed to install Hitler as their leader. It is a fun game that can get you some weird looks when someone loudly declares “You must be Hitler!”😅 Cryptid - treasure hunt game ( find the monster) where each player has a clue to where on the board the monster is located. The first one to figure out the other players clues and to find the monster wins. You can only ask other players if the monster can be in the spot on the map you are pointing to, according to their clue (a yes or no answer). Unstable unicorns - build your stable of unicorns and try to prevent the others from completing theirs before you. Similar to munchkin. Munchkin - a fun card based sort of role playing game. You start of as a class less human with your own gender and then you get cards that can give you weapons, armour, and other advantages, ( or disadvantages that you can play on other players) , and also cards that can change your race, class and gender. Arkham Horror - a great coop game if you like Lovecraftian Horror and myths. You play as investigators trying to defeat Lovecraftian monsters. And of course Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride. They are classics for a reason.

As a girl gamer I’ve been gaming since I was in middle school and being 30 I still don’t disclose I’m a girl . Too many people out there still hate on females playing games, let alone when they are doing better then males.
women enter male dominated space, women get treated the same as other men in said space, women then gets mad and cries on the internet about her being treated like every other man does. I truly wonder if female gamers have any brains or if they just like to complain. Getting your panties in a twist over some loser getting mad at you over voicecoms, get over it.
Yeah I could see using a voice changer if you're a female gamer, but then again they're streaming themselves playing it so they're clearly using the fact they are a female and a gamer rather than your standard female gamer whos not a professional/entertainer.
Ugh and the worst is if you're warming up and they're bragging about great kills and being downright obnoxious and rude. Then your head count ends up being bigger than theirs or whatever and they log off, kick you out, or go silent/refuse to talk to you, if you bring ANY attention to it. I played with one guy that was the biggest a-hole sometimes. I also played with a good handful of guys that would do the "hell yeah, that was sweet" if I did a good job or had a good shot or round or strategy. I used to play with no mic for a bit and they'd automatically refer to me as a dude and then I'd eventually come on the mic if I felt like it or it was easier and they'd lose their minds but want me to keep playing with them. I haven't played any online team stuff but there were definitely pros and cons. Also getting hit on was gross 🤢

@@illusion-xiii We don't live in the victorian era, modern medicine can absolutely save the life of a fetus if the mother dies in specific circumstances. There are also cases in which there is a choice to make between the woman's life and the fetus, so there are plenty of possibilities to have a living baby and a dead mother. Baby should be charged with first degree murder, since the fetus is apparently a fully sentient human being, thus it willingly planted itself in her uterus and planned the murder for at least 6 months, send that little shit to JAIL!😤
As a female gamer, I get harrassed every day for my gender. It's frustrating that if I want to speak in game, I have to think about people lashing out at me. It's so frustrating, and it has gotten worse ever since Andrew Tate started getting more popular. :/
Get a group to game with if you can and have them dogpile the haters. Our friend gets a LOT of misogyny thrown at her and it ends up with 4 others of us barking or being super loud on mic so it's just blocks anything they say.
Maybe you should stop adopting the language of sexist people 🤷♂️ I’m sure that makes your space a lot more open for people to feel like they can get away with things (ie: you calling yourself a “female.”) You have to unpack your own sexism / what you are allowing / internalized misogyny before you expect trash men to treat you better. Trash men will be trash, you just have to get good at finding and blocking them & demonstrating that you do not tolerate that behavior. There will always be trash men, but definitely less if you don’t use their language
I took a couple of online classes to learn sign language, just for something to do during lockdown. I've only been in a situation to use it once since, but it was so worth it so see the look on a customer's face at work when she was able to order her own food. She was so happy and couldn't stop smiling, it made me tear up 😅 You can find courses that teach you the basics for super cheap and it doesn't take that much time to see results, I would highly recommend giving it a go 👍
That embryo law, if the Reddit thread I've been involved in is any indication, could eat itself via cognitive dissonance once a non-citizen tries to use "personhood" to claim citizenship for their unborn offspring, or something similar.
That's what I was thinking. If people can't be forced to donate their bodies or blood to other adults or children...then calling an embryo a person would mean that you can't be forced to incubate it for nine months. I imagine it results in removing it alive and then allowing it to be "kept alive" for a certain amount of time till the parents as guardians or the states as guardians can pull the plug and then it costs so much money that people come to their senses and realize how horrific and backwards that is and finally we are back at square one.
The crazy thing though is that a “detectable heartbeat” as they mean it, isn’t real. The ultrasound machine takes the twitching and simulates the sound based on the twitch of two veins that in the next 14 weeks will slowly turn into a heart and start to work. If a detectable heartbeat equals personhood, what does that mean for people on life support? And to the point in your post, if someone who is either in the US legally or not, if they’re say 20 weeks pregnant, and the fetus definitely has a heartbeat, is citizenship granted automatically then? They’re a person by law so why wouldn’t they be a citizen? Honestly they didn’t think this through. Next of kin and such can make medical decisions for people on life support. Why can’t the person who’s pregnant decide to pull the metaphorical plug on the fetus?
Hmmm, that georgia exception sounds very interesting. If they literally treat an unborn child as a person infront of the law, there must be some loop holes you can exploit. Like that woman did driving in the carpool lane, should be 100% legal in georgia (no idea if they even have that tho)
Ooh. This is exactly how this sort of garbage legislation should be challenged. Force people to acknowledge that it doesn't work when logically extended. This is an ideal job for the Church of Satan! (or the Satanic Temple, I know the two are different organizations and I always forget which one does all the awesome political activism against oppressive religion-based laws).
I think its another protest legislation. Making a statement that if the state wants to redefine personhood, than fine, go all the way with it. It's called "malicious compliance".
I realized the dishwashing about 6 months ago. The minimum amount we have to pay for water is $37(without sewer)..so no matter how little we use, $37. I told my kids to use the dishwasher every day. Every day, no matter what. I still paid $37 because we still didn't use enough water to increase the bill. It would increase when handwashing every night though.
Highly recommend Ticket to Ride, Catan, or any of the Catan extensions when the OG version gets boring. Village is also fantastic, and my friends and I also played a lot of Wingspan. Some of these games have lots of rules that might be confusing for new players at first but we've found that just playing the game and learning along the way works well. Also, Betrayal of House on the Hill is my favorite game by far, as the board is unique every time you play.
Second to Ticket to Ride!! That game is ADDICTING and FUN, the only problem I ever have with it is trying to convince my friends/fam to immediately play another round!! 😂
Wingspan is the one I find weirdly zen-like -- especially playing the online version against the computer. It's a great way to bliss out for a while _and_ I've been told my playing on a board has really improved. Best investment ever.
I always thought stories of female gamers being treated poorly online were greatly exaggerated until my wife started playing csgo with me. Most of the time she won't even talk anymore because half of the teams we get become viciously vile to her as soon as they hear her voice
My issue is men in gaming tend to assume that because I’m female, I’m worse at the game. This is why gender switching is so common among women; even when people are not openly rude to you, you’re not treated as equally competent unless you play as a male character
I was 10-11 years old when I was in those old cod lobbies. And man. Being a preteen in a Black ops 2 lobby, you get more shit than anyone else. But let me tell you. This is absolutely not comparable to immediately downplaying and disregarding one of the greatest clips I've seen in years. This woman is clearly not just one of the most skilled women at War zone but one of the most skilled PEOPLE at war zone. And sorry but if a guy hit this clip nobody would disregard it like that tik tok. I may not have seen the video has too harsh. But even the most subtle shit have much bigger implications then even the original poster might have realized. There are many of us who won't bat an eye at the edit. But those who already are sexist or subconsciously are, will see the edit and take it much, much further than intended and THATS the issue.
@@Flaccid_Child1 one of the best is not THE best. I really couldn't care less about other clips because that doesn't discount the skill of the clip here. I haven’t seen Ninja’s Masterclass so there is the possibility that he does address this, but if not, he should mention how much luck and privilege played a role in his success. Both luck and privilege are HUGE factors in whether or not someone makes it big, maybe even being more of a factor than is fair. To act as if neither of those things contributed to his success would be ignorant, and doing his audience a disservice.
I don't know how much privilege has to do with Ninja coming up, but it's really not a factor on who becomes a popular streamer and who doesn't lol. Look at Asmongold, dude didn't have a pot to piss in when he started making videos and streaming. He worked for it. Put out good content, and eventually people will start to notice. A little bit of luck, maybe.
He doesn't from what was in Drew's video. Luck, personality, skill...definitely a bit dishonest to not admit that played a large part in his fame. Overall, he doesn't seem to fully understand why himself. He focused on his hair and his room quite a bit. Talked about upgrading his studio...some of the biggest streamers are basically streaming from bedrooms.
@@ThatLongHairMetalGuy No, I think you explained it well in this case. Good looks are also a form of privilege, much more so if you’re a woman. Also, I don’t think there’s anything coincidental about the way the demographics turned out. Drew mentioned that the cheapest monitor he suggests in the course is almost 1k, while they include guides about what a "mouse" or "keyboard" is... it's crazy that they didnt think this through a little bit better. Dimension 20 and Critical Role come to mind the most- D20 more for it's energy (they all work for CollegeHumor, everyone at the table is a comedian) and Critical Role for the more high-fantasy worldbuilding. I'm not the best at playing personally, but watching professionals craft a story before your eyes has definitely become a big part of my life, especially when there are hours of gameplay to enjoy while stuck at home!
The issue I see in the Nadia edit aside from the fact that she didn’t get the monetary benefit from a 3mil video is that a 3mil sexist edit will bring the wrong audience to her. It normalizes being hateful towards her and will cause a mix of gross people and regular people calling back to the video. Basically, if you go watch Nadia because of either this vid or the 3mil vid, don’t joke about the edit unless she is. Even if you’re being nice and just doing some friendly teasing, she’s almost certainly getting DMs and hate comments and chatters weaponizing the video to harass her.
What do you weponize on that and harass with??? You people are so out of touch The reason girl gamers are looked down on are nit because they play worse, its because they cant take jokes that already a 10y old boy wouldnt flip an eyebrow for
@@laszloneumann500it’s the difference between a sexist joke amongst friends vs your entire chat making the joke over and over. If one of my friends interrupts me to tell me to go make a sandwich, that’s funny bc the joke is what he did was wrong and it would be crazy for him to say it and mean it. There’s a trust there that cannot exist between chat and streamer. Sure, you can give chatters the benefit of the doubt, but you and I both know that chat can’t let go of a joke. And even if you have only 5 or so active chatters, if they keep repeating the sexist joke, it can become grating. On top of that, if your supporters think it’s just a funny joke, it helps to normalize the rude behavior. I’m not trying to claim this is some massive travesty, for Nadia I’m sure it’s an annoyance at most. What I’m more interested in is the sociological repercussions of the edit, because sociology is something I find fascinating. I also find it interesting that when girl gamers push back against jokes that punch down and take shots at their gender, boy gamers tend to get overly defensive and aggressive about how it was a joke and women are too uptight. But if the only way you can achieve comedy is to make fun of oppressed groups, you’re just not actually funny.
@@KittyThaliaX23 Very respectable response but i do disagree with the end of it with the whole punching down and women being marked as opressed group. There is a distinct difderence with such a joke in a friend group compared to 'out in the wild', doesnt mean anyone has to get up n arms about it We dont get defensive because girls call out punching down, we just been so 'equally raised' that for boys its *the norm* to ignore/suck up these kind of issues because no1 cares about a guy bitching about such things So im not even sure who the opressed group sociologically is really...if id think theres any group thats singled out on any way, but there isnt Bottom line for me tho is that all in all, its not sg that should be cared for in such a negative light, its content and its good content, people are free to have fun at others expense when its this juvenile imo, regardless of any 'opressed groups* which may i add, for a european or eastern culture, is just fancy modern-american folklore from twitter, at best
@@laszloneumann500 I do agree that boys and men are raised to ignore their feelings and either bottle them up or take them out in socially acceptable ways such as physical activities or even raging at video games. It is my opinion that raising any person to ignore their feelings is abusive and leads to a lot of untreated and undiagnosed depression and anxiety, and explains the high suicide rate of adult men in our culture. However, women are an oppressed group. There are still active fights for womens’ rights in our culture right now. By bringing equality to women and, by extension, people with “feminine traits” (being openly emotional, for example) we also move to normalize those traits in men. All of that to say, if someone makes a joke about you, whether it’s only heard by your team or if it’s heard by 3mil people, you have every right to put your foot down and say, “I don’t like this, do not do this.” If it doesn’t bother you enough to do so then fair enough. There are many things that don’t get under my skin that do get under my girlfriend’s, for instance. Different people have different thresholds for tolerance. What’s compounded there is when you have experienced a type of oppression that is commonly joked about, which can bring you to your limit much faster than other things. My best example for men in general would probably be shorter men. It’s very popular right now to make fun of men under 6’ and call them terms like “manlet” or tell them that they’re not real men at all. Videos of short men losing their temper go viral easily and are made fun of by popular reactionaries, which in turn normalizes bullying short men, regardless of if they leave a disclaimer to not consider short men a monolith. If a man who is insecure about their height had an edit of him being the size of a mouse go viral, that would be humiliating, but it would also feel like speaking out about it would make everything worse. He could be bullied further for not being able to take a joke and for having a temper as short as he was. There’s many other social subgroups of men who experience a taste of what women deal with from a young age. Incels come to mind as well, with the majority of them just being neurodivergent men who didn’t get the help they needed growing up and don’t know how to get it now, and are mostly just sad online. Yet they are all assumed to be cruel vindictive pigs that will threaten to kill a girl if she doesn’t say thank you when he holds a door open for her. I feel this mostly got away from me so my point is this: men do experience inequality at the hands of the same system that oppress women. Normalizing feminine behaviors will allow men to do better as well, and if you don’t like someone or something, don’t feel forced to bottle it up. Your feelings and opinions are just as important as anyone else’s and your gender shouldn’t be weaponized against you to invalidate them.
@@KittyThaliaX23 so basically. Gender has nothing to do with the issue. And thats the thing there really. This is not a gender issue and is jot due to any ooression of sort. Its a sociological issue caused by the human condition Instead of looking for sacrificial sheeps, most of the terminally online people making a fuss about these issues, trying to make it seem like any one particular group is a victim or progenitor of this is just missing the point completely and comes off as just a buncha ppl talking about things they dont understand And thats what the psychological research mostly reinforces, we *all* have the same issues, the same water flowing from different taps Trying to make it a sociological or worse yet, political issue, is just a one way ticket to blindside ourselves to the actual issues(makes one wonder if thats the reason ESG scores are so chased by corporations) Feeding any ideology that tries to find any further responsible than the individual, is pointless. The past decade has been spent by the woke movement finding problems where there arent any because these peoe are just loud but utterly incompetent to tackle or discuss the rpot causes of these issues, mindless sheep mindset and consummerism, the real enemy. Feminism in the past decade has been more damaging ideology than medieval age catholic churches, it facilitates only hate and anxiety making people just constantly generate negative emotion on both sides of the arguement These people are just simpky without any rational inherent moral or ethical guidance, probably because our parents traumatized most of us the hell and back whether they intended to or not, this caused generations of young peope to be unable to derive value from any conservative cultures and systems All in all, all i see are people arguing which flat of the coin it can be balanced taller with, both sides ignoring the edges The entire reason you believe any of this shit is because its the monetary interest of the government to make you think theres a gender/race divide when in reality, theres only one divide, money. As a woman who grew up playing video games, yeah, there is absolutely a lot of targeting because you're a woman. If a guy fucks up during a game, he might be called gay or other variants of that, told that he sucks, all of that, you've all seen it before. If a woman is talking on coms, immediately you get shit like "baby girl", "shouldn't you be playing the sims" or whatever. It's not hurtful, it's just annoying. But you can't deny that these are clearly two very different reactions and triggers for said reaction. Pointing that out and calling it what it is, sexism, is not being a "snowflake". Whining that people will call you out when you're being a little bigoted piece of shit, is.
While I agree with you that is sexist and its shouldn't be done I kinda question people who are surprised by this. Competitiveness and anonymity are a perfect combination to bring the worst on people. People online will not only be sexist, they will be racist, xenophobic, homophobic, and general assholes, being a woman is only one hair they can pull that is easy to grab. This is to be expected and people shouldn't take it personal (still wrong thou) as the people delivering this "jokes" do not even see pass what they can make fun of. See it as a dog barking on the other side of the fence. They don't see you as a woman to make fun, they see you as another rando player they can make fun of freely.
I absolutely love how you dismiss homophobic insults as ok, it's normal, you've heard it before, not a big deal, but draw the line at sexism. Big news, friend : sexism is not worse than homophobia. Both are equally shitty.
Technically, that's equality. When a gamer calls a guy in the game a pussy or gay, they intend to inflict equal emotional harm as they do when they insult a girl using her gender. They want to piss off both guys and girls, but it takes different comments to piss each off.
Evidence that those who complain about "snowflakes" are almost always snowflakes themselves like that dude. He's so thoughtful and sensitive to be taking the time to write his thoughts on a matter that doesn't even pertain to him lmao. He has probably smashed a controller or 2 in his mom's basement, bonus snowflake behaviour.
I don’t use scam loosely but any video pretending to be a “master class tutorial” on how to be a streamer/influencer/famous person is inherently a scam. Like 1/100,000 people get anywhere close to Ninjas level. This screams Andrew Tates masterclass in being a man or whatever he’s peddling right now.
There is also the "To grow your audience, go on TV!" aspect of that masterclass. The people buying this master class in 99.9% of opportunities don't have this option, so including it in the first place and not say something like "Use other media to grow your fanbase" was dumb. Anyone can make highlights on youtube, and I think that is more important to grow your twitch influence than having blue hair. It's the fact that the quality is so low effort and not helpful at all that people are calling it a scam. If it was actually trying to give helpful tips on the want to give helpful tips, then even if it's bad I could excuse it, but here it's so obvious Ninja is there for a paycheck
"If you're a threat to American people, we'll take you out" ok so a chunk of the government and most major corporations? Thanks Joe, can't wait to see these changes come into action x
They have to take out like half of their own population at this point :'D Cops, prisons, corporations, lobbies. They'd have to take out the very same people that fund them like the big oil and energy guys.
In regards to embryos gaining person-hood. Does this mean we can also start getting full life insurance policies and claim those benefits if say there is an unexpected death of said embryo/fetus? That's going to be fun for some and a nightmare for these companies and government that think they're right to control others bodies.
Honestly, this is going to be a huge benefit for parents, right now they have to scramble post-birth (a very hectic time already) to arrange deductions and add to insurance. Being able to set those up earlier, and start paying a bit less in taxes sooner, would certainly be a big help. Would like to see options like this be available regardless of the abortion fight.

“You can’t do/say half the shit you could 10 years ago” yeah no shit. The world changes and some things are not Acceptable anymore. I think that some people can be oversensitive but women calling gamers out for being misogynistic is not being oversensitive. I have nothing against shit talking but I’ve never Seen a female gamer put down a male gamer for simply being male. Being racist or misogynistic is not shit talking. Stop trying to excuse it. Not to mention game lobby’s haven’t really changed. The only thing that changed is that people now call out those behaviors but that’s it. Otherwise game lobby’s are still toxic for a lot of women.

As I've aged, I've become more and more friendly with spiders. If I see a web in the corner of a room, I have the absolute most respect that they chose a place they know I don't frequent; and I wish them the best of luck catching the damn fruit and bot flies, and hell, if they feel like adventuring down to the floor, help yourself to the odd silverfish. That being said, it takes a major lack of critical thinking to put fire near a bush and expect anything less than this outcome.
I only allow spiders inside my house that are harmless to humans lol. I'm in Australia so I can't be too chill about them being about, but I see their benefit of course ☺️
I'm a tattoo artist and during the early years of my career, I went on YT alot to watch all the free how to videos on the subject. I've learned so much, some videos more helpful than Others, but always found something of value to take from them.
I'd also recommend SuperEyepatch Wolf's video on RUclips success courses. Its like 2 hours long but looks at Ninjas course and loads of others. Its also hilarious
Drew's video not only criticizes Tyler's master class, but showcases how hard it is for anyone new to be noticed on Twitch.
and also offers some solutions to actually improve the class and make it worthwhile

Why would this person even try to kill a spider that's OUTDOORS? I understand if you don't want one in your house and don't feel up to catching and releasing it outside. But it's so bizarre to go outside and start a fire over a spider, when YOU are the one in IT'S home

Oh shit super eye patch wolf!!
Awoooooooo!!!
Bro they all do it... there isn't legislation in place controlling youtubers or streamers. It's literally company policies at this point. Until we have a good portion of atleast gen x in our governments we won't see much change.
It was the best.
Oh god, I just got flashbacks of Jake Paul's how to be an influencer "class" for a few years ago. Where he had like 4 videos & nothing else & basically scammed his entire fan base. Holy hell that was bad.
Do you mean they could manipulate and almost weaponize people that way? I'm just thinking if someone that's an extremist was able to do a class.
I feel it's a scam off the bat because the streaming community is SATURATED already. On both switch and RUclips.
A lot of them just patting themselves on the back.
thing is, masterclass is geared toward learning a craft, not becoming successful or famous.
@@gabriellunoch6346 That's so cool! I didn't know he did public stuff.
Because making people feel bad for doing their own thing is far easier than fixing what is actually wrong

Just a quick psa for everyone: spiders are mostly good and harmless. You can simply relocate spiders from your personal space calmly and let them live their spider lives elsewhere.

The UK yes, Australia no.

I DO try...

Quick couple of recommendations for you Phil, though I've always heard it called tabletop games and not hobby games:
Just tried Betrayal at House on the Hill! It’s so brilliant and is great to play multiple times for multiple outcomes
Let me hard agree on Betrayal at House on the Hill. A 3rd Edition was just released as well and reviews seem great so far.

Seriously, Ninja is giving the product he's advertising.
This 👏👏
Of course it's a "weird argument". Make your argument at least close to our time line.
grownups should also agree that this is the internet... where half the population is openly misogynistic and racist and there's literally nothing you can do about it
at the end of the day more people know her name and will support her, that's just how this works
It was great at first but now it’s just if you want to know what your favorite person does/did to become so good in their field.
By what I've seen, it makes it look like Tyler thinks he got popular because he painted his hair blue.
That's the vibe I got too, I found myself asking How quickly did this guy grow? Was he even aware of the factors?

Agreed there are fantastic Masterclasses out there they are just very hit or miss and this one was a massive miss.
The Duffer Brothers' Masterclass is very intimate and good as well
I'm going to need to do this
Yea especially comparing those two, you just know whose capable of conveying the knowledge they do have.
Root is worth it just because of how unbelievably cute it is ✨
That guy took that "There was a spider, I panicked and set my house on fire" meme way too seriously
Ninja’s Masterclass is a… well, master class in being absorbed into your own ego and thinking “If all this worked for me, it’ll work with everyone!”
If I’m paying for a full year of Masterclass just for Ninja’s videos, I would absolutely feel ripped off for how sloppy everything was explained and presented.

I love DND but it's difficult to just jump in. You need at least one veteran to act as the DM. I'm in a group with all veteran players and it took my quite some time to get up to speed. But if you can find a group then it is great fun.

Any time I see people scream about how the world has gone soft, it is ENTIRELY in the context of "Why won't everyone let me be a complete asshole anymore?!"
Yep. Meanwhile they're crying real tears about it. Hopefully their moms will bring them a nice Capri Sun and make them feel better.

At a point he was one of the best fortnite players in the world, at a time when fortnite was the most explosively popular game.
Ninja even openly brags in his Master Class about his fame in the game and having a skin made in his image in the game,
And yet he fails to offer any insight at all that when Drew specifically took on Forrnite to be his main game he played on a new Twitch account following Ninja's advice only,
Drew only ever got 3 people to interact at all in all the streams he did, which included a 24 hour stream.
Yikes.
Right clip right time in the algorithm is how it really happens now
Pre-teens made Ninja popular
It was him being the first good fortnite streamer, which got drakes attention so him and drake played together. That's when he took off.
Call of Shame, a RUclips channel revolved around "exposing" cheaters in Call of Duty Warzone, just dropped a video on Nadia.

Exactly what i came here to comment.
Using the “but I’m a woman” card to gain acceptance by the community while using shady tech to accomplish better clips is just shameless.

To the Nadia part, the world isn't getting sensitive, it's moving forward on what's ok/not okay in a society.

The one thing missing from a lot of these "online" classes, is mentorship or being able to really ask the hard questions you REALLY want to know and get real actionable answers rather than fluff designed to either sell part two of a product, or to make sure a celebrity, or brand's image isn't hurt.
The best learning environments I have had have been in spaces where other peers can challenge my preconceptions, where a mentor can guide me and tell me exactly what I am doing wrong when I am stuck. This is why comments sections in tutorial videos, & hobbyest subreddits are so hard to beat.
Board games I would suggest depends on many factors, like the crowd (ex.: how familiar they are with board games), time constraints, group size, etc. But here are some that I found nice or that I heard of.
Party games:
* Decrypto (a kinda better version of Codename as it involves more interaction with teammates and the other team)
* Deception: Murder in Hong Kong (a combination of Codename and secret identity genre, which is really nice and it's still ok if you're not good a bluffing, you may be ousted but still go on)
* One Night Ultimate Werewolf (can be very fun with the right crowd, or bad with the wrong crowd)
* The Resistance: Avalon (a more intricate version of secret identity games in general)
* Sushi Go Party
* Dixit (kinda like Codename and Decrypto without teams, but with pictures; you have to be obvious but not too much)
* Codename
Strategy/other
* Terraforming Mars (lengthy but there's a lot going on to win which keeps your brain active)
* 7 Wonders Duel (very cool 2 player games because you do feel the tension against the other player at key moments)
* Azul (there's not a strong theme, but it's pretty fun cause you can f*ck people over, and it's good for family too)
* MicroMacro (it's just a really fun version of Where's Waldo with deduction)
Other that I think could be worthy of looking up to in, or to try at least once:
* Just One
* Wavelength
* Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza (lots of laugh at first)
* Night of the Ninja
* We're Not Really Strangers (not really a board game, but to create deeper connection)
* Mysterium
* Celestia (some games are funny when people get unlucky, some a bit boring, confusing at first)
* Insider (the scoring system doesn't really make sense to me, it's more fun just trying to win)
* Pandemic (not the legacy ones because it's not replayable)
* Dutch Blitz (very stressful in a good way, kind of a multiplayer Solitaire where you have to put number in order as quickly as you can)
* Wingspan (heard a lot of good stuff about it)
* Strip Poker???
Great list!
I'll 2nd Wingspan. It's like the antithesis of Monopoly. It's competitive, but in a very friendly and relaxing way. I always have a great time playing wingspan win or lose and it's such a visually, and cognitively stimulating game. A must play for sure.
I’ll include the games :
Secret Hitler - similar to the werewolf game but slightly more team based. It is a fun game that can get you some weird looks when someone loudly declares “You must be Hitler!”😅
Cryptid - treasure hunt game ( find the monster) where each player has a clue to where on the board the monster is located.
I love so many of these games! This is a great list. I would definitely add the nemesis board game to the list but it's pretty difficult to fully win.
I'd throw Betrayal at House on the Hill on the list! That's the game that hooked me personally.
When I was in an art slump, I watched a ton of Xabio Arts youtube tutorials. My art style wasn't much like his, but his form of instruction were both informative and entertaining enough to actually teach me tricks and techniques I had overlooked in previous years. There are many other great youtube channels of course that I watched and studied but his always sticks out in my memory. So I take that as a job well done.
Any semi-handy home owner or car (attempting) fixer will tell you YT is a wealth of knowledge on fixing darn near anything. I've watched videos and saved myself hundreds if not thousands of dollars and it was some old timer awkwardly positioning his phone-camera and the video had like 5k views. Tons of folk are out there helping with DIY for the love of the game!
Yeah. I needed to paint some doors with those panel things and had no idea what I was doing. RUclipsd it and found an old guy professional with a tutorial and the doors look really good
As a girl gamer I’ve been gaming since I was in middle school and being 30 I still don’t disclose I’m a girl .
Also getting hit on was gross 🤢

less entitlement more high as shit, probably. you ask the guy sober if he would've done it knowing it could set off a forest fire, he most likely wouldn't say he would. entitlement is more like the celebrities on the last episode using all of their money to help make the world shittier for us.
hi Phil! I don't know if you'll see this, but games my partner and I love are Pandemic: Rapid Response, as well as the OG Pandemic game and any co-op game such as Forbidden Island or Forbidden Desert. We also played the heck out of Disney's Villainous for a while.
I had a MasterClass subscription a couple years ago and the value totally varied person to person. RL Stine, James Patterson, RuPaul and some others really had a ton of value packed in. While others didn’t deliver on the messaging
Hey Phil, if the mother of the fetus dies from complications of the unborn, can the fetus be charged with murder or manslaughter? Since it has full person rights and caused the death? Too soon??
Seems like it would pretty much be instantaneous capital punishment in this situation, unless the fetus somehow survived.

Ur a clown
Get a group to game with if you can and have them dogpile the haters. Our friend gets a LOT of misogyny thrown at her and it ends up with 4 others of us barking or being super loud on mic so it's just blocks anything they say.
It’s really sad to me cause I want more women in gaming and this really doesn’t help that.
@@SolitaryLark then start educating the trash men 💀 don’t put that burden on women
I took a couple of online classes to learn sign language, just for something to do during lockdown. I've only been in a situation to use it once since, but it was so worth it so see the look on a customer's face at work when she was able to order her own food. She was so happy and couldn't stop smiling, it made me tear up 😅
You can find courses that teach you the basics for super cheap and it doesn't take that much time to see results, I would highly recommend giving it a go 👍
That embryo law, if the Reddit thread I've been involved in is any indication, could eat itself via cognitive dissonance once a non-citizen tries to use "personhood" to claim citizenship for their unborn offspring, or something similar.
I can't tell if you are joking or serious
@@user-ys2qz6ji6t 😂😂fr
I absolutely love Drew Gooden, and it's nutty seeing him mentioned on here.
A bunch of woman, pissed at there government…. Counting as having double voting power? I’m sure we could make it happen and watch it backfire!
@@whitneyr.846 Exactly this. And it's dope
You should try Rail Baron if you could find a copy
I like your taste but you need to add Agricola to your list
Wingspan is the one I find weirdly zen-like -- especially playing the online version against the computer. It's a great way to bliss out for a while _and_ I've been told my playing on a board has really improved. Best investment ever.
Pandemic and Monopoly have the same end goal in my mind. Pain Simulator.
I always thought stories of female gamers being treated poorly online were greatly exaggerated until my wife started playing csgo with me. Most of the time she won't even talk anymore because half of the teams we get become viciously vile to her as soon as they hear her voice
That's rough :/ but hey it's csgo lol I'm not surprised with that one
It depends on the game too. Some games women are treated better ie given free loot or helpful advice
That's the problem, men don't believe us when we talk about our experiences. It fucking sucks.
shit happens to me too and I'm a guy, you think maybe it's the game? maybe that's online culture
One of the best clips? You don’t watch a lot of Warzone clips if that was one of the best.
@@Flaccid_Child1 one of the best is not THE best. I really couldn't care less about other clips because that doesn't discount the skill of the clip here. And yes I don't watch warzone clips because I work fulltime and personally throughout the last several years I haven't bothered to play any new cod game since like black ops 3 or something. That doesn't change my point at all.
@@Flaccid_Child1 Well the BEST clips all star yo mamma, but those aren't gaming related...
She's okay ya simp
Dude, people will downplay anything. Somebody can make this joke and still consider her a pro gamer. She would wreck me and most people, and that’s awesome. But the video was also funny.
SO trippy to see stuff I watch just casually suddenly become a part of the 'news'. First Lex Fridmans interview with Joe Rogan, and now freaking Drew Gooden!
@@ThatLongHairMetalGuy Not necessarily financial privilege.
@@ThatLongHairMetalGuy No, I think you explained it well in this case. Good looks are also a form of privilege, much more so if you’re a woman. Also, I don’t think there’s anything coincidental about the way the demographics turned out. Videogames and computers weren’t originally seen as a guy thing until advertising companies began to brand them that way for whatever reason.
Drew mentioned that the cheapest monitor he suggests in the course is almost 1k, while they include guides about what a "mouse" or "keyboard" is... it's crazy that they didnt think this through a little bit better. Theres absolutely no reason for someone who doesnt even know the basics to blow that much money on *one* piece of equipment
I wish I could take Gordon Ramsay’s master class; I feel like the cooking ones are or can be worth it. Every video from him I’ve made just from RUclips turned out great
This!!
The Neil Gaiman one looks like it would be worth the money a hundred times over. Although even then you can still get extremely high quality writing tutorials for free (see Brandon Sanderson) - otherwise I would have bought it months ago
I tried it in the past. It was ok.. I wouldn't spend money on it again though. His videos are pretty much the same times of tutorial as on youtube.
While I haven't been able to play D&D in person since pre-pandemic (and even then I wasn't that into it), I've found I really love watching others play!

You people are so out of touch
The reason girl gamers are looked down on are nit because they play worse, its because they cant take jokes that already a 10y old boy wouldnt flip an eyebrow for
@@laszloneumann500it’s the difference between a sexist joke amongst friends vs your entire chat making the joke over and over.
There is a distinct difderence with such a joke in a friend group compared to 'out in the wild', doesnt mean anyone has to get up n arms about it
We dont get defensive because girls call out punching down, we just been so 'equally raised' that for boys its *the norm* to ignore/suck up these kind of issues because no1 cares about a guy bitching about such things
So im not even sure who the opressed group sociologically is really...if id think theres any group thats singled out on any way, but there isnt
Bottom line for me tho is that all in all, its not sg that should be cared for in such a negative light, its content and its good content, people are free to have fun at others expense when its this juvenile imo, regardless of any 'opressed groups* which may i add, for a european or eastern culture, is just fancy modern-american folklore from twitter, at best
Its a sociological issue caused by the human condition
Instead of looking for sacrificial sheeps, most of the terminally online people making a fuss about these issues, trying to make it seem like any one particular group is a victim or progenitor of this is just missing the point completely and comes off as just a buncha ppl talking about things they dont understand
And thats what the psychological research mostly reinforces, we *all* have the same issues, the same water flowing from different taps
Trying to make it a sociological or worse yet, political issue, is just a one way ticket to blindside ourselves to the actual issues(makes one wonder if thats the reason ESG scores are so chased by corporations)
Feeding any ideology that tries to find any further responsible than the individual, is pointless. The past decade has been spent by the woke movement finding problems where there arent any because these peoe are just loud but utterly incompetent to tackle or discuss the rpot causes of these issues, mindless sheep mindset and consummerism, the real enemy.
Feminism in the past decade has been more damaging ideology than medieval age catholic churches, it facilitates only hate and anxiety making people just constantly generate negative emotion on both sides of the arguement
These people are just simpky without any rational inherent moral or ethical guidance, probably because our parents traumatized most of us the hell and back whether they intended to or not, this caused generations of young peope to be unable to derive value from any conservative cultures and systems
All in all, all i see are people arguing which flat of the coin it can be balanced taller with, both sides ignoring the edges
The entire reason you believe any of this shit is because its the monetary interest of the government to make you think theres a gender/race divide when in reality, theres only one divide, money.
I went off on a tangent and didnt really attempt to be cohesive, i dont think theres much use in me telling my opinion too .uch in a youtube comment, and dont worry, the actually smart people who the world actually depends on, never bother to come here and comment, this entire conflict and forum is just an illusionary war/battlefield for the middle and lower class, the plebs if you will( us included )
It’s ok baby girl I’m here for you
While I agree with you that is sexist and its shouldn't be done I kinda question people who are surprised by this.
Like 1/100,000 people get anywhere close to
Ninjas level.

If you’re gonna play video games online, have a backbone. It’s a simple as that. The world will not bend over backwards to coddle the Uber sensitive minority. Every group gets made fun of by every group. It’s called life.
@L yeah totally, sexism against men doesn’t exist. Delusional.
I love spiders in my house...they catch the bugs! As long as they stay out of my way, live and let live.
this was such a nice perspective
Ain’t that the truth
I only allow spiders inside my house that are harmless to humans lol. I'm in Australia so I can't be too chill about them being about, but I see their benefit of course ☺️
I used to hate spiders but ever since I've started giving them names they're automatically my friends
I'm a tattoo artist and during the early years of my career, I went on YT alot to watch all the free how to videos on the subject.
I've learned so much, some videos more helpful than Others, but always found something of value to take from them.
Drew's video is absolutely hilarious I recommend it to anyone and everyone, the poor soul went through a lot in that video
Yes!
I'd also recommend SuperEyepatch Wolf's video on RUclips success courses. Its like 2 hours long but looks at Ninjas course and loads of others. Its also hilarious
