I can see your smile of relief after you totaled your DNA and got 50%. Indeed you are a Filipino no matter the percentage. What's important is you have the traits of Filipinos of being compassionate, hospitable and proud a Filipino. Mabuhay ka! 🇵🇭
I did an ancestry dna test. I’m Filipino, my region came out as 97% central and southern Philippines. 1 % came from Central and eastern China. 1% Sephardic Jew, 1% Southern Italy and the Eastern Mediterranean. My mom told me that my grandfather was part Spanish and my grandmother part Chinese.
Yes, your Filipino side comes out & you were right to group all of Asian categories into one. And this new (early Oct) North & Central Philippines + Luzon (by itself) is interesting. I'm glad that my Western Philippines finally went away and just came out as Central & Southern Philippines which matched all of my other half Filipino cousins. No surprise that you had some Chinese actually show up and have that known in your genealogical tree. It's always cool to see DNA align with your genealogical tree. MyHeritage has never updated their ethnicity categories since they first released their DNA tests back in 2016 or 2017? I can't remember when it came out. With Ancestry, they've been updating it yearly since 2018 and I tested back in 2014 because of this new "Polynesia" category that they came out with and I heard of Filipinos getting some of it in their results and knew what was happening. Of course now Filipinos do not show any "Polynesia" in their results because now there is a specific Filipino category, or rather today it has updated to include 4 regions: 1. Northern & Central Philippines, 2. Central & Southern Philippines, 3. Luzon, & 4. Western Visayas. Compared to MyHeritage's "Filipino, Indonesian & Malay" category.
I’m mixed Filipino too and I totally understand the sigh of relief when everything added up to 50%. Blood quantum as a measure of identity was forced on us and countless other peoples during the colonial period. Luckily, our ancestors knew that our cultures aren’t defined by an outside system telling us who we should be. Salamat and agyamanak for making these videos for all of us!
My filipino connection as far as we can reach back was my maternal great grandmother who was supposed to be 50/50 filipino - spanish. Gramma would be 25%, mom would be 12.5%. Dad was Portuguese/chinese lineage. That means i should be around 6%, but born in the Philippines and a filipino in heart and soul.
I'm mixed also. 50% Korea, 20% White euro, 25% West African, 5% Native American according to Ancestry. I look like a guapo Pinoy with muscles. I also go to S. America and blend in there. I have also been misidentified as a Mexican, Thai, middle eastern. I have an Indian friend, he says I look like I'm from India. I think I blend in with Non-white populations.
Yes kabayan, you are 100% correct that the Philippines is the first country to be considered as the melting pot of all races in the world. Because in our history our country is the center of commerce of Asia, South East Asia, Europe and Middle East countries.
These tests are not very accurate for South East Asians. It's mostly accurate for Northern and North East Asians. I did 2 of these DNA tests from 2 different companies. It kept giving me 80% chinese but I can trace my Filipino heritage as early as 1700s.
Hope you are happy and proud that you are with Filipino heritage my respect to you but i don't have that respect on some people that are not proud of their Filipino heritage. Some of them are hollywood actress.
Central asia Chinese means Austronesian today call it china but not china territory before because many kingdom in china until Mongolia invasion in china
@ just saying . Just tells me that my ancestors who came to the Philippines were Italian and Spanish descent; and it’s significant to me as a whole person. Thank You Very Much.
Not really; if it's 1%, it most likely means one of your ancestors was probably a Mexican mestizo that Spain took to the Philippines because 1% is so small that it's either overlapping or your ancestor was mestizo, and since less than 2% of Filipinos have Spanish ancestry, he married a pure Asian, unlike here in Latin America where 70-80% have some European ancestry, so when people get married, the European DNA doesn't get diluted; majority of Latin Americans have 40-60% European DNA.
Speaking of origin(race) & nationality. Believe it or not! Do you know Portuguese Navigator Ferdinand Magellan his “Iberian Jew descent(Not Hebrew Origin)?” And most Spanish Military Soldiers came into the Philippines during Colonial Era 15th century, are Iberian Jew(mixed German, Slavic), & Dark Arabs descents?
Some people say they would be devasted if they found out that they have Chinese DNA! Well, you'd be damned because Filipinos have indeed Chinese ancestry.

There're some things that you just have to figure out on your own. 6% is practically nothing just don't count it as Filipino.
