Taking a Look at Filipino things in My House
I’m half-Filipino and was raised mostly American. I thought it might be interesting to show you what Filipino stuff I have in my household. But then I also thought it would be interesting to see what people online think is stuff that you might find in a Filipino household.
So I'm taking a look at what you might find in other Filipino household and showing you what Filipino stuff I have in mine.
What good stuff am I missing?

I've seen a wide range of comments on what makes a person a "Filipino." Some say it is citizenship along with knowing the culture and language. Others say it is the "one-drop rule" as long as you have at least one drop of Filipino blood, you are Filipino. Others say it is something in between. In my view, part of the disparity in these types of comments comes from the difficulty associated with...

Filipino is not actually a race its a feeling. Feeling of belongingness. If you look at Filipino in general, ite a mix race from different culture around the world.

In youtube they say theyre filipino but in real life they hide the filipino side. Ive seen more than enough half full or part filipino that are not proud of their heritage. Many filipino in the west are embarrassed and or just dont think of themselves as filipino

I'm interested to know your viewpoint as half Pinoy born in the Philippines but raised in America. Some Filipinas teach their children, Tagalog or Visayan language, others don't. So there are some half Pinoys or bad Pinoys based on your definition, who don't have an idea what it means to be a Filipino or how to mingle with Pinoys. This interest in Filipinos is rather new. Thanks to social media.

  • @tambukaka

I agree with your definitions. But for me whether you have Filipino blood or a foreigner, if you love to be associated with us, you are more Filipino than those uprooted Filipinos who are ashamed to identify themselves as Pinoy.

Leland, you ARE Filipino. May I suggest that you start learning Tagalog, at the very least. This actually strengthens or even arms you coz it adds more proof that you are Filipino, on top of the fact that document wise, you have all the evidence that you are Filipino. Filipinos in general, having found out that someone has Filipino blood, half or not, accept that person as Filipino. Please do check the channel “Amerikanang Hilaw”, Eunice, who is so white, lives in the Philippines and is treated as a Filipina, because she is. An older celebrity in the Philippines, the “Asias Queen of Songs” named Pilita Corrales, is so white yet is treated as a Filipina, coz she is one. Anne Curtis, really white, another Half Filipina, actress, singer in the Philippines, again is treated as a Filipino, because she is. Hope you got my point.

I’m mixed Filipino too and I totally understand the sigh of relief when everything added up to 50%. Blood quantum as a measure of identity was forced on us and countless other peoples during the colonial period. Luckily, our ancestors knew that our cultures aren’t defined by an outside system telling us who we should be. Salamat and agyamanak for making these videos for all of us!

My 2 Grandnieces and 1 Grandnephew are also 1/4 Filipino and unless they tell you you can not tell they have Southeast Asian ancestry. They look typical Northern European with very pale skin and they have Bright Blue, Gray and Dark Blue EYES. They are growing up around their Filipino GrandUncles and Grandmothers (Americans though, lol) so they are not Cut-Off from their Filipino Heritage.

One rule of thumb in pronouncing/reading Tagalog or Filipino word is to syllabicate the word. Example- Sam pa look . Prounounce all the syllables. Group the syllables by a combination of consonants and vowels together and there are no long vowels.
