Our 16 year old granddaughter is very proud of her Filipino heritage. She has lots of Irish genes from both me and our daughter in law. That gives her milk-white skin and bright red hair. She complains that no one believes she is Asian.😂 when she was younger and out with her Lola everyone thought Mrs. Rick was her nanny. Or that she was kidnapped 😂❤

Hello Kabayan, I enjoyed your lovely chat podcast with your daughter. I laughed at the part where she met 2 filipino couple. I can understand why they think your daughter isn't one, simply because her features really look more of a caucasian ancerstry. 1 sub from England. The ginataang tapioca that was mentioned is a traditional dessert which we call it Bilo-bilo in Luzon, other big islands call it by other name. Usually served in fiestas, specially on all souls day in November.

Hi. I am a mixed Filipina and Spanish but am also adopted. I really liked listening to you podcast because it helps me understand a little bit of who I am as an American Filipina. Both my adopted parents are Filipinos. My bioparents are Filipinos. My adopted parents never told me the truth about my adoption until I was an adult. I finally searched for my relatives on both sides and found out so much more. My adopted parents wanted me to be Filipino first before American. So when I came to the US, I joined the Filipino folk dances, participated in pageants and discouraged to have white friends. So I grew up Filipino but...I had such a mix reaction from people who saw me as half or mixed. I would be asked after my adoption journey, did I find my white father. I would go to a store and someone thought I am from other countries, Middle East, Mexican, Korean, Chinese. Yes, I've got that look that I could blend in with any culture.
After my adoption search, I found out that my biomother's people have Spanish. They all have the same skin color and chestnut eye color. My biofather's people have some Portuguese in their DNA way, back. I have embraced myself as American Filipino because I was raised in America but also raised very Filipino by my adopted parents. I am proud being Filipino and I take the time to explain, how DNA works for those who don't believe I'm Filipino ,100%.
Unfortunately, I didn't meet my bioparents. They have passed away. I thank them for the good genes and I thank my adopted parents for their insight to make Filipino culture a part of my life.

The thing about being Filipino is that it's never about blood. You don't need to have parents who are Filipino to consider yourself as Filipino. If you choose to be Filipino, then you ARE Filipino. Never about the blood, it's about YOU making the decision. The popular phrase is "Pusong Pinoy" not "Dugong Pinoy".
