- Shooting with Duke Langley was one of the most intense rides I've ever experienced! Duke has been racing for 30 years and building cars even longer. He took a perfectly good C5 Z06 Corvette and put it on a diet (2800 lbs), dropped a Mast Motorsports 700 hp LS7 in, sequential transmission and some serious suspension upgrades to create an evil and highly competitive street legal race car. And right after our shoot he went to compete at Laguna Seca Raceway in the Optima Ultimate Streetcar Challenge in the outlaw class and laid down the 2nd fastest lap ever on 200 treadwear tires...2nd only to Randy Pobst so sit back and enjoy the ride...

The C5 platform is incredible. The fact this one weighs well under 3000lbs, with 700bhp AND a sequential transmission is nuts. High rpm screaming V8 ftw 🙌🏽🔥

I been there To be honest My brother and I We're speeding down a country lane And It went from asphalt to gravel unexpectedly We rolled that car 2 and a 1/2 times For about 3 years anytime someone took a curve to sharp I would naturally grab the door or oh shit handle or brace myself against the dash......but that was 19 years ago I don't have that reaction so yeah to recognize it now makes me chuckle 😅😅😊

I daily drove my '03 Z06 for 11 years before a semi hit me on the interstate and destroyed the car. It had a mild build (494whp) and, as lightweight as these are, the car was a beast for "regular" street use. I have a much faster Z06 now but I still miss that thing. The C5 doesn't get the love it deserves. With just a few mods they're so much more fun to drive than the C6 or C7.
I've had all of those too. The C5Z and C6Z have a lot more in common. I really liked my C5Z, but I think the C6Z is by far my favorite of the three!
500 whp is absolutely perfect for the street, you DO NOT need any more than that to have serious fun on public roads. All these kids that watch these 1320 videos and think you have to have 1000 HP car to be fast have never even been in a 1000 HP car much less even driven anything over 350 HP. I could scare most people into shitting their pants in my old 250 whp built and gutted K-swapped 95 Civic coupe.

@@jesterokjones4954yeah after you go over 500hp and closer to 1000hp it usually makes the car LESS fun in street use, because you cant really push it anymore, which makes it really unsatisfying. Great for highways at that point thats about it.

Thank you for reviewing a car that's on the Optima Tour.. It's my favorite car show. As a guy that owns a modified FRC 99 Vette and has had a Modified c4 I'm definitely impressed.. It's a lot of good C5 FRC and Z06 cars on the tour..Those cars are from the factory very much close to race cars. suspension, seats, wheels, and tires is all you really need to be competitive. It's probably the best bang for the buck...👍🏽🏁

That was a wild ride no doubt. The torque that car has is phenominal. I have driven a car like that with the brake situation and it is hard to stop it. I truly takes understanding and experience to learn to run that system.
If you get that car on a mainline or equivalent hub dyno and a good tuner they can definitely fix that no lift shift problem.

The vette is an absolute beast. I love the pure, raw race car vibe it gives out. You get to have so much fun you must absolutely love your job.
This car has Trans- Am written all over it. I love it. Your face told the whole story, and the fact that Dude had to pull himself back in the seat upon deceleration.
Crazy thing is…that weekend he raced at Optima partnered with Trans Am and was faster than Trans am…impressive

Autocross need mechanical grip more than aero since the turns are tight, speeds are relatively low, and the straights are short, that's why rallye car builds do so well on it.
I wonder what all the aero in this car is for 🤔 Looks more like a time attack setup.

Man this has to be my favorite drive video yet . That Vette is f****** violent and I love it . I grew up doing oval track so I no exactly what your feeling with stupid acceleration and no time stopping on a dime . There's nothing like it and the feeling of joy over come by fear then joy is amazing. Nothing like it hands down . Do more like this autotopia

Man what a sick c5!!! It reminds me of my c6 z06 which I sold recently. Car was making 627whp, 608wtq completely rebuilt motor etc... it just bucked and surged below 2000rpms but as soon as you stepped on it it sucked you back in your seat and felt like your were flying. Loudest and fastest car I've ever owned

I learned that this car hauls ass, brakes hard and you can’t have a convo given the LOUD exhaust and it was awesome!!
Its not just the car, Duke is a real wheelman. Have been racing with him for years. The car is stupid fast, but so is the driver!
I have that Winters quick change rear end on my '78 C10. It's an outstanding component to autocross racing due to various tracks and lengths of tracks we race on. Looking forward to bringing it out to the Quarantine Cruise to show you.

Years ago when I bought my C5 I visited a tuning shop. The guy specialized in Corvettes. He had a twin turbocharged C5 Z06 in his shop he was tuning. He gave me a quick ride. It was INSANE! He said it was 650HP to wheels. It was STUPID fast. Broke the tires on in 5th gear! The wild thing, car looked 100% bone stock from outside and interior. He also had a C5 with 4L60E automatic that he drag raced. It ran sub 10 seconds. Was super cool. My plan was to build up my C5 but so damn hard to work on it so I bought a Tahoe and have been building it up instead. My C5 is already really fast for what it is, it's got heads, cam, cold air intake, exhaust, gears, and professionally tuned by guy who gave me a ride in that C5 Z06. Curious what the valve train is in that? I built up my truck with 2116 LSR Johnson Lifters and Yella Terra shaft mounted rockers. Major overkill for a 5500 RPM build haha but sounds like a sewing machine. SUPER accurate valve timing.
