Next time you have a go at the caterpillar track, rather than trying to pull it out as an intact loop knock the pins out of a connection on the far end and pull it out as a strip.
With it embedded in the ground pulling it as a loop is like trying to shove a knife side on through butter. Breaking the loop lets you pull it out edge on so it's not behaving like a ground anchor.

It would appear that you still have some tree stumps located inside the steel tracks, until you move them, it will only make it harder to get the track out. Short of using your excavator, you will not be able to get it out over those stumps - will maybe with a D-9 you might. You did a bang-up job on that road - nothing like a good crown and drain off ditches every so often along the way. We also maintained a road across our farm and back into the woods to our grandparent's home and we used the same methods you did, plus a bridge over a diversion ditch that usually always had water in it. It had to be open in winter and summer to get supplies back to them. I always enjoy your adventures - God bless you and your family.

@@stupidminotaur9735yeah I love ❤️ that Gold Rush show also, I guess I like the show because I like going Gold Panning in the creeks, rivers and small streams in my Area!
But I think the bulldozers on Gold Rush are much bigger Caterpillars/CAT’s. So they’d be much bigger than the small Bulldozer that this track came from.
But you are absolutely correct about the weight of those Dozer Tracks on those big CATS on Gold Rush!
I’m sure those on Gold Rush’s Big CAT Dozers do weigh at least a Ton/2000 lbs. if not more.
The reason AL was having so much trouble pulling this older smaller Dozer Track out is:.... AL didn’t cut the couple trees 🌳 out that’s growing inside the track before he tried pulling it out. Hahahahaha 😂
It’s kinda hard to pull anything out of the ground that trees 🌳 & tree roots have grown up through 😂🤣.
The base at ground level of a 5-6 inch diameter live hardwood tree 🌳& it rooted in the ground is strong enough......That you can hook a strap or chain to the base of it and Wench one of those big Caterpillar Dump Trucks out of the mud ! So AL wasn’t going to pull that old dozer track thru it.
Who’s your Favorite character on Gold Rush ?

My dad used to do logging in neighboring Maine, and used a Bombardier tracked vehicle for skidding logs out. One time he had a track come off (a large metal track, just like you're working with), and so he used the winch on board to get the vehicle up on its good track and try to get the other track back on. Problem is that the old winch cable wasn't up to the task, and as my dad was crouched over, levering the track on, it split and whizzed by, just over the back of his head. He managed to get out of there, but advised me to never trust a winch to hold up a piece of equipment unless it's new and overrated for the purpose!

I really like the idea of the dozer track being a fire pit, I think it will look uniqueand function really well containing the firewood with side ventilation. My question is 'How warm/hot will the track become once a fire is going?'
If you don't end up building a firepit with the track - I would stand it on end at that washout over the culvert. Dig a narrow trench parallel to the road, slip in track (straight , not looped), brace ends with large stones and back fill road side with gravel.
I would think if track faces correctly, it won't bend toward creek, and will allow water to flow off the road , thru gravel, then the track itself and down into creek. Also, I could be completely wrong. lol

    • @aaronwebb7090

No. By my figuring you will first come upon the container shortly after leaving the road, then you will cross the creek that has the brook trout in it (and the smaller beaver dam seen in the more recent videos), after that you will reach the homestead site. Continuing on you could stop and walk through the trees to get to the larger beaver dam (where the trappings took place) or continue on to the pond and outhouse.
There is also another pond that Al has mentioned but I'm not sure where that is in relation to everything else, but I think it is at the "top" of the property which makes me think it is somewhere after the trout pond with outhouse (since that is often referred to as up above.)

With regards to what's best for attracting wildlife, the saying in ecology is "life likes edges". You'll probably find that you'll have more wildlife where you have an intersection between mowed and unmowed, or between forest and either. Grouse in particular like having a good bit of cover, and need low vegetation to make their nests in the spring. Similarly, deer like being able to hide in the forest but come out to grassy areas to feed.

I did exactly the same thing once, I was struggling getting an old tractor tire out of the ground for the best part of an afternoon. Later that evening my father called me to his office and said I should sit down. As I sat down my dad said to me "Son you are 15 years old and it is time we have the conversation about using the right tool for the job". I sheepishly nodded and he said in a low fatherly voice, "next time use the bloody dynamite" and stop wasting diesel!

You needed to get as close as you could to the tracks and lift them as high as possible with the bucket to get them out of the ground. They are probably tangled in all kinds of roots. I used to run bulldozers and those tracks are extremely heavy. I’m not surprised you had so much trouble getting them out. You will get them out eventually.
