I'm not an expert operator but I do watch channels by operators like 'Dirt Perfect 'and 'Let's Dig 18' who are.
I have noticed you have a different technique to them, they dig trenches by scraping it off in layers, but you take a bucket full by scooping it from the face of the trench. Not trying to teach you to suck eggs or anything, just something I noticed, and you have asked for feedback.
You might want to take a look at some of their videos.
Al no need to apologize for multi video projects, got 22,000 people already watched it in the past hour and a half, so you're doing something right. I truly enjoy the videos and look forward to every one. Thanks for sharing them, Jimmy
I echo Jimmy the midtown farmer. You're doing great 👍. I have made my adjustment to waking up only 3 days a week to your videos. Still haven't found any other channel that greets my sleepy morning mood with just the right amount of enthusiasm. You're still the best in that category & so many others I can't list them all here.
Olivia is growing so quickly. From the back angle as she approached the goats 🐐 yard she looks just like Jena. How much height difference is there now? All my clan out grew me. I was officially the shortest person in my nuclear family, until July 1. My first grandson joined us in God's fresh air and he topped out at 21". I think I'll have him beat for a few years anyway. His Dad, my son, is 6'2". He's got some ways to grow to top him. Blessings to you all. Thanks for sharing this part of your lives with us.

No apologies needed, Al. All good! It's good to know how long things take & issues you may run into. We understand it's frustrating at times but appreciate coming along. :)
If we only knew all the work it takes to put out a thirty min. video plus all the farm work you do we should NEVER complain !!!!!

@@tannenbaumgirl3100 the channel has changed for sure maybe him counting on Justin Rhodes too much. I agree that we really don't need to see the same farm chores every video or the cooking every video. i have not really noticed anything dishonest so far but maybe i am missing it.
Gina is getting some more rock walls, for sure. Some of those boulders are big!
We appreciate the time it takes you, to keep us entertained. ❤️
Its pretty dumb Idea to remove rocks out especially from under the road. Its makes road sink further
everytime heavy vehicles runs over it till it firms up. And Al got stuck for the same reason but he was using bobcat so it was easier to get out.
Rocks placed 2 foot below can give the road required stability and prevent sinking
What in the world will you do with those huge rocks? Also how will you move them across the homestead?
Does anyone else cringe when watching Al operate the excavator? Asking for a friend.
You need a trash pump to pump the water out of the trench...
With as much property as you have
It will come in handy in the future
Add a bumper mount vise to the list too!
A portable generator would be very useful for you. Run a
pump and drain the trench in minutes! Not to mention many , many future uses on your property.
You are doing a great job with both the properties and the videos. Keep up the great work!

Working in a deep trench with the spoil loosely piled next to it is very dangerous especially in those wet conditions with heavy plant parked on the edge, a real risk of entrapment. Hope you discussed a emergency plan if either of you are in trouble out there and what actions etc are needed⚠️
Extensive First Aid kit
Communications- with back up (radio and mobile phones)
Emergency numbers - fire, police, paramedics, neighbors and friends
Etc
Excellent suggestion!
Enough experienced people have mentioned, and are mentioning this , so take notice please.
i worked heavy construction for Ma Bell, i was thinking the exact same thing, if our supervisors ever cought us working in a trench like that they would have sent us home and suspended us with no pay. the spoils are way too close to the trench, thats alot of pressure on the sidewall of the trench, especially when the ground is pretty much saturated with water, its a recipe for DISASTER. OSHA has standards for proper shoring and sloping that will keep you safe when working in an enviorment like that, maybe just google them and read them???
@@motownXJdad9565 I guess being your own boss means you can ignore the well meaning advice of more experienced operators and make your own, hopefully not to serious, mistakes.
Agreed should at least have 3 feet clear from toe of spoil to trench, any trench deeper than 3 feet should be stepped on sides or battered. It’s the cowboy operators that make the stats regarding safety look bad🤷🏾♂️
My widowed mom lives in Gulfport Ms. They've had so much rain that the pond overflowed so bad, they were picking up fish out of the driveway trying to throw them back in for another day. 😱 Hopefully your weather will clear up 😊
I will pray for your momma. I will make you fishers of men. Brings a new meaning.
My favorite part is the animal chores. Olivia is getting as tall as her mom.
Suggest you pump the water out of the ditch before backfilling for many positive reasons.
Or at least practice your skills by bailing it out with the bucket , less dirt more water and then dump it far enough away it doesn't run back into the ditch... Another way is to back fill from the dry section and chase the water out the end before digging more.......Water pump first as mr funk suggests but if you don't have one handy ....................... I would add that I would not work in a trench that deep without someone around to help when the sides cave in on you. Just imagine 3 bucket loads from your tractor falling against your leg.... You will hear the crack of bones and it will take some time to dig yourself out IF you are in a position to do so. I have seen this happen with my own eyes and even a 3' deep trench can hurt you should the side fall on you.

Place two large rocks on each side of the road to mark the trench line
that is a great ideal
Yes, I've watched many videos of "Art and Bri" with Art digging and dousing, trying to find his water line.
Or, re-bar to locate with a metal detector.
Sounds like a good idea - plus it's free &effective.
Looked like he had a straight shot line to me. All he has to do is run string from his 2 faucets to find the buried line.
I love your videos. don't worry about long projects with me anyway

Good morning Lumnah family and everyone. It is a beautiful day here in Nebraska today. Rain last night and more again today great thunder and lightning show last night. have a peaceful day.
I wouldn't worry about showing the same project in multiple videos, I think you are doing a service for those people who are interested in this lifestyle in having a realistic view of how long and how much work in is involved. I have been working on my place for 30 years and my to do list is longer now than when I started. Thanks for sharing.
Ha Al, is there a good spot to get gravel on your place to use for fill ? Mite be time to start looking for a dump trailer(new or used) or an old dump truck for hauling dirt, mulch, compost, firewood and many other things. A lot of things seam to be hard to find now !

Al, you have it all wrong - you’re keeping the big rocks out of the trench so you can build Gina a beautiful stone wall! On the serious side, I was a bit concerned when you were in the trench because of all of the cave-ins that have happened - working in trenches is much more dangerous than many people realize.
You are wright , I worked on water lines and never gave it a thought !
I will be glad when he is done with this project! When he bends over in the trench if it caves in at the wrong time he would be trapped. Working below grade is very dangerous without shoring.
I know what you mean. I had no idea how much work goes into the videos until I started doing them myself this year. Thank you. We are learning a lot from you.
No pressure, just keep going the journey is the reward for us, the viewers.
Gooooooooooooood morning Al , Gina and Livia .

Hey, just show real life. That’s the type of video I love. Need to see all aspects. If a project takes a week or two, etc., that shows us the REAL truth - not just what looks good. That would be fake, correct?
Don't worry about the content being long or boring!!! I Love every bit of it! It's a learning educational! Man that Bobcat is a total God Send!!! God Bless and have a Wonderful Weekend!! ⚘😊❤
Really nice harvest of rocks, certainly an all organic crop.
Lots of minerals!
Building a rock wall on the driveway? LOL that was massive.
I can only guess how nervous Gina was watching you tilt the excavator! Good save Al !!
Maybe watch the channel with that guy 'named Camara'(?), he's built that container castle ....anyway he had a video where he had to jump from his equipment - which he made clear was a very calculated risk.
I grew up in, on and around heavy equipment and learned it never hurts to see how others handle the close calls.
Keep up the great work, looks like Gina's wall and fire pit at the cabin has some material to build more!
And never be to proud or have too big an ego to be taught how to do something better. The way you think something should be done is not always the best way, and someone just might have thought of a better way and it pays to learn those things!
@@samvalentine3206 I agree. I seek out a lot of sources to see how things were done right and, well, not so right.
I think I heard Gina in the background calling their insurance agent and upping his life policy. 😊 😂
The excavator sure us paying off. Great investment Al. I just can't get enough of your videos 😍 Have a Blessed weekend. 🙌
Please do not apologize!! We appreciate that you share your dreams, visions and life with us!! The process is not always fast, but that is understood! Wow Gina, cool camera work!! You looked very stuck/almost down under!
Gooood morning Lumnah's! Love watching & listening to you as you build your dreams! God bless y'all!!!
It takes time when your doing the digging and trenching by yourself. And why are people giving you a thumbs down, your videos are excellent. Oh well it's not very many of them. I worked delivering septic tanks for over 20 years and doing installs for a couple more. Your operating that machine like a pro now. Thumbs up. :):)
Anyone who gives a thumbs down are jealous that they aren't out there doing it themselves.
Don, Thumbs down because he is not working safely?
It takes lots of time to do videos. We are very new at our channel and are still learning lots. Love what you and Gina are doing. Take your time and do it right the first time is what my dad always taught me.
It’s not redundant, it’s real life. Love your videos. You guys get much more done the the average people.
Thank you for bringing us along.
Don’t get caught up in the dramatisation of your titles Al, your content is good enough without you doing that.
Thanks for all you guys do.
Agreed. Click bait can be an insult to long time viewers. However if the intent is to snag new eyes, perhaps that explains it.
They need more drama as somebody's drama attracts viewers, more viewer's more money. Simple math
I agree. RUclips tells creators what to do. I think they all get an email around the same time, because content reflects the same things: dramatic headlines, promoting the algorythyms and why. Al can easily stand alone with his own creativity, but unfortunately, RUclips pushes the narrative.
Rushing to get a job done, no matter what it is normally doesn’t work out. So please take the time needed to do it right and safe. The beginning is always the slowest.
I will be glad when you are done working on all the waterlines. Take care and God bless! 💜
Find a good spot you want a pond in the future and start a barrow pit. You will be pulling big rocks out any time you do ground work so having a spot already picked out to pull extra soil from will be good. That you can use the excavator to dig it out and the tractor then move it helps but you may want a dump trailer to make hauling more in one go and with the tractor you can use the tractors hydraulics to power the lift cylinder so can buy a trailer that has electrical or had a fire in the battery/pump area as you just care that the cylinder is working.
There will be a great need for a dump trailer !!!
You meant borrow pit.

Fortunately an Excavator can get itself out of trouble nearly as well as getting into it by using its arm to hoist itself out of a problem and a skilled operator can even load it into a truck bed without a ramp. Al was using at times a sweeping method with the bucket to fill in the trench at time which is better than the blade since it can keep it on firmer ground by using the arm to reach the pile than driving onto the fill nearly buried it. Kudos on getting it free and one wonders how high the water table is there since a future leech might be problematic if it's this high.
I would be more concerned with water table if the water was raising as he was digging where it is filling after a rain it is more an indication of drainage. Having a portable pump to remove water from the trench could have been the ticket.
I would like to see one time that he used the grease gun on that equipment
They had a perc test done at the location of the homesite a while back if I recall correctly.
Hi Al, good to see your progress and a little tip for you when you are digging downhill with a water source at the upper end of the trench. Start at the bottom, so that you can actually work in the trench dry. All the best, enjoy watching your projects and homestead progress.

How panoramic, your views of property! Nice way to start my day! Thank you for sharing your video.
Al, Gina, A good couple of days work in the ground. I think you have done very well in the conditions. A large diameter pipe under the road might have been useful in the future, maybe? Don't really know! In the UK we put blue pvc disclosure tape in the hole above the pipe, for future purposes. Of course you could have jacked up your costs by placing the pipe in a sand bed and then covering with 1" gravel to compensate for loss of mass and to protect the pipe. That said, from the sofa, it all looks very good to me!👍. Regards Stephen.
