I really like this one. I love the character of the old building, well maintained...even the basement was organized and looked good. I love that this place is not boxy, and has a lot of the old character..plus the skylights. The outdoor area is totally private, plus the fence enclosure is high enough for safety. It looks clean and was well cared for. Other than the very high price, it's a winner.
I'm a little late but here's my fun fact for this very unique, very cool building: the grey thing that looks kinda like a face at 5:56 in the video is a rectifier for the antique elevator. It turns 3-phase alternating current into 240V direct current to run the motor. New York City still had DC service available from the street up until 2007, but that was not actually the end of direct current in the city. Any buildings with remaining DC stuff got these little rectifiers afterwards and there's still hundreds if not thousands of buildings that have them.
The bolt on the lower part of the door is to help prevent the door from being pushed inward due to the weight of snow in the winter as it piles up especially with wind.
Alex is definitely too young to know about The Nanny, good memories, I too would take a pic outside if I was in the neighborhood lol, those metal elevator gates scare me as I've been stuck in one before as I didn't close it properly, very nice old school place with big bedrooms, pricey of course.
@@653j521 Elevators can be scary! A few months ago a teacher was moving into an older high-rise apartment building in NYC and the elevator started to move when she was only halfway inside and it killed her. It was a horrific story! It completely crushed her. People could hear her screaming.
I love those NYC slanted skylight roof thingies, like in Hey Arnold! I've seen them in other vids, and as much as I love them, how do you sleep? I didn't know there were shades like that. Bam! Solution! And Cash got it right in saying the view is "classic New York"...freaking love it. I love big cityscapes.

WHOA! That guy's rent went from $2050 to $2900 in just 2 years? I thought a Landlord could only increase the rent 3% maximum year over year? I loved the featured apartment and building (I actually wanted to see the one across the street from it) but I wouldn't want to pay $8500/month for it.
@@653j521 "covid discounts" that's ridiculous. Some landlords did a "huge favor" by not price gouging for a few years so they made up for it by doubling the rent and pricing out all their current and long term tenants. Only rich people can live in Manhattan and all surrounding decent neighborhoods now. The rent prices shown on this channel are ridiculous.
Cash if you thought that escalator was a long ride you definitely haven't been to Grand Central Treminal for the new LIRR station. That'll definitely take you a few minutes riding. I love that building. So much character & the lobby is drop dead gorgeous. That said, converting it from a single family home to multiple apartments has definitely given it a chopped up feeling. That skylight cover could definitely be used as a table. The kitchen is rather small tho & for the price I actually would expect more. Now if Alex didn't know about "The Nanny" & Fran Dresher who did remember "movin on up to the east side with a deluxe apartment..."

It's nice but for £8.5k I'd expect a proper window in my sitting room. Cash, you just can't help yourself. Jumping on the window cover & messing with the blinds killed me. Your mama must have a hard time controlling you as little boy.
Depends on how you have the rest of the apartment set up I suppose. The doors still let a bunch of light in. I could see using the room with the French doors as a library/office/guest room and leaving the doors open most of the time.
Honestly, every time I see Alex I'm thinking he has rushed out of school to do the video and when filming stops he has to rush home to do his homework!

$8500!!!!! Man that's ridiculous, but it is a pretty damn dope place. Love how its on the top floor, roof deck, neat old building yet it has an elevator. Only thing is the kitchen sucks for that amount of rent IMO. They could have put the laundry somewhere else, stuck the fridge in that spot. Then you have another 3 feet of counter or so.
Love the building but that is the strangest roof deck I've ever seen! I like the apartment. Bedrooms are adequate, I realy like the exposed brick, and the bathrooms are nice. The living room is kind of small but okay. The kitchen is VERY small, although it does have everything you need. However, I could never imagine paying that much money per month for a house, let alone an apartment!

One great one with ensuite bath, one interesting one with skylights, and one that is actually a sectioned-off part of the living room, so splitting the rent three ways will be complicated. The in-unit laundry and outdoor space are two big pluses. The building has character, class and an elevator.

Yep, even assuming some of The Nanny was shot at a studio, there was too many wide shots of the entrance not to know how it *used* to flow to that fireplace downstairs. At minimum, they have definitely cut up the bottom floor a lot
